RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Crown dimensions data of deciduous teeth hold anthropological, forensic, and archaeological value. However, such information remains scarce for the Chinese population. This multi-center study aimed to collect a large sample of deciduous crown data from Chinese children using three-dimensional measurement methods and to analyze their dimensions. DESIGN: A total of 1592 children's deciduous dentition samples were included, and the sample size was distributed according to Northeast, North, East, Northwest, Southwest and South China. Digital dental models were reconstructed from plaster dental models. Independent sample t test, paired t test, principal component analysis (PCA), and factor analysis (FA) were used to analyze the tooth crown dimensions. RESULT: 18,318 deciduous teeth from 1592 children were included. Males exhibited slightly larger values than females. The range of sexual dimorphism percentages for each measurement was as follows: mesiodistal diameter (0.40-2.08), buccolingual diameter (0.13-2.24), and maxillogingival diameter (0.48-3.37). The FA results showed that the main trend of crown dimensions changes was the simultaneous increase or decrease in mesiodistal diameter, buccolingual diameter and maxillogingival diameter in three directions. CONCLUSION: This is the first large-scale survey of deciduous tooth crown dimensions in China, which supplements the data of deciduous tooth measurement and provides a reference for clinical application.

RESUMO

Natural small molecular organic matter (NSOM), ubiquitous in natural waters and distinct from humic acid or fulvic acid, is a special type of dissolved organic matter (DOM) which is characterized as strong photosensitivity and simple molecular structure. However, little study had been directed on the role of NSOM in eliminating emerging contaminants in advanced reduction process (ARP). This study took three small molecular isomeric organic acids (p-hydroxybenzoic acid, pHBA; salicylic acid, SA; m-hydroxybenzoic acid, mHBA) as the representative substances of NSOM to explore these mechanisms on promoting Ribavirin (RBV, an anti COVID-19 medicine) degradation in ultraviolet activated sulfite (UV/Sulfite) process. The results demonstrated that the observed degradation rate constant of RBV (kobs-RBV) was 7.56 × 10-6 s-1 in UV/Sulfite process, indicating that hydrated electron (eaq-) from UV/Sulfite process could not effectively degrade RBV, while it increased by 178 and 38 times when pHBA and SA were introduced into UV/Sulfite process respectively, suggesting that pHBA and SA strongly promoted RBV degradation while mHBA had no promotion on RBV abatement in UV/Sulfite process. Transient absorption spectra and reactive intermediates scavenging experiment indicated that the triplet excited state pHBA and SA (3pHBA* and 3SA*) contributed to the degradation of RBV through non-radical process. Notably, eaq- played the role of key initiator in transforming pHBA and SA into their triplet states. The difference of kobs-RBV in UV/Sulfite/pHBA and UV/Sulfite/SA process was attributed to different generation pathways of 3pHBA* and 3SA* (high molar absorptivity at the wavelength of 254 nm and photosensitive cycle, respectively) and their second order rate constants towards RBV (kRBV-3pHBA* = 8.60 × 108 M-1 s-1 and kRBV-3SA* = 6.81 × 107 M-1 s-1). mHBA could not degrade RBV for its lack of intramolecular hydrogen bond and low molar absorptivity at 254 nm to abundantly transform into its triplet state. kobs-RBV increased as pH increased from 5.0 to 11.0 in UV/Sulfite/SA process, due to the high yield of eaq- in alkaline condition which promoted the generation of 3SA* and the stable of the absorbance of SA at 254 nm. By contrast, kobs-RBV underwent a process of first increasing and then decreasing in UV/Sulfite/pHBA process as the increase of pH, and its highest value achieved in a neutral condition. This lied in the exposure of eaq- increased as the increase of pH which promoted the generation of 3pHBA*, while the molar absorptivity of pHBA at 254 nm decreased as the increase of pH in an alkaline condition which inhibited the yield of 3pHBA*. The RBV degradation pathways and products toxicity assessment indicated that UV/Sulfite/pHBA had better detoxification performance on RBV than UV/Sulfite/SA process. This study disclosed a novel mechanism of emerging contaminants abatement through non-radical process in NSOM mediated ARP, and provide a wide insight into positive profile of DOM in water treatment process, instead of only taking DOM as a quencher of reactive intermediates.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: This study utilizes investigate the impact of posterior torques on the three-dimensional force exerted on the lower anterior teeth during the retraction in orthodontic clear aligners treatment. METHODS: Four groups of mandibular dental arch light-cured resin models will be created, including: mandibular posterior teeth with standard torque, mandibular posterior teeth with labial torque, and mandibular posterior teeth with lingual torque. Each group will consist of 12 sets of clear aligners. The aligners will be worn, and measurements will be taken using the six-axis measurement platform to evaluate the three-dimensional force exerted on the lower anterior teeth under various initial torques applied to the mandibular posterior teeth. SPSS 26.0 used for ANOVA analysis, α = 0.05 significance level. RESULTS: Comparing mandibular posterior teeth with standard torque to those with labial torque, no statistically significant changes were observed in buccolingual force. In the mesiodistal direction, mandibular incisors exhibited a significant decrease in distal force, while canines showed a significant increase. Both findings had a significance level of P < 0.05; Lingual torque on mandibular posterior teeth, compared to standard torque, led to a significant increase in lingual force for incisors and a significant increase in labial force for canines in the buccolingual direction (P < 0.05). Additionally, mandibular incisors exhibited a significant decrease in distal force in the mesiodistal direction (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Varying initial torques on mandibular posterior teeth significantly impact force on lower anterior teeth. Labial torque reduces lingual force on incisors and increases distal force on canines. Lingual torque increases lingual force on incisors and labial force on canines.

RESUMO

In recent years, pepper wilt has emerged as a pivotal constraint on pepper yield augmentation. Bacillus velezensis S3-1, with a wide array of hosts, can be used as both a biocontrol agent and biofertilizer. Nonetheless, the precise mechanisms underpinning its employment in combating pepper wilt remain cloaked in ambiguity. In our study, we found that B. velezensis S3-1 could significantly inhibit Fusarium sp. F1T that caused pepper wilt. S3-1 could effectively inhibit both the growth and germination of F1T conidia, leading to a reduction in the spore germination percentage from 83.2 to 37.1% in vitro experiments. Additionally, leaf detachment experiments revealed that the volatile compounds produced by S3-1 could inhibit the spread of pepper leaf spot area. Moreover, we observed a significant decrease in the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) in pepper treated with S3-1, along with a significant increase in the content of soluble protein, polyphenol oxidase (PPO), peroxidase (POD), and phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) in pepper. Furthermore, RT-PCR analysis showed that the expression of the defense genes CaPR 1 and CaPIN II in pepper after treatment with S3-1 was significantly upregulated, suggesting that S3-1 had the potential to induce systemic resistance in pepper, thereby enhancing its disease resistance. Hence, our findings suggest that S3-1 can be a promising biocontrol agent for managing pepper wilt in modern agriculture.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: The objective of this study was to investigate the 3-dimensional forces exerted on the maxillary teeth with aligner activation of maxillary canine distalization on the basis of different initial canine tips in vitro. METHODS: A force/moment measurement system was used to measure the forces exerted by the corresponding aligners with the same activation of 0.25 mm for canine distalization on the basis of the 3 initial canine tips. The 3 groups included: (1) group T1, with canine inclined mesially 10° on the basis of the standard tip; (2) group T2, with canine maintained standard tip; and (3) Group T3, inclined distally 10° on the basis of the standard tip. A sample size of 12 aligners was tested for each of the 3 groups. RESULTS: The canines were subjected to distomedial forces and labiolingual and vertical components, which are minimal in group T3. As the anterior anchorage for canine distalization, the incisors were mainly subjected to labial and medial reaction forces, with the most significant reaction forces in group T3, and the lateral incisors were subjected to greater forces than the central incisors. The posterior teeth mainly received medial forces, which were greatest when the pretreatment canines were distally tipped. The forces on the second premolar are greater than those on the first molar and the molars. CONCLUSIONS: The results demonstrate that attention to the pretreatment canine tip is necessary when performing canine distalization with aligners, and further work, both in vitro and clinically based, investigating the effect of the canine initial tip on maxillary teeth during canine distalization would greatly aid in better treatment protocol with aligners.

RESUMO

Chloroquine Phosphate (CP) is an antiviral drug used for treatment of COVID-19. It is released into wastewater and eventually contaminates natural water. This study reports an effective homogeneous catalysis way for CP degradation by the 2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidine-N-oxyl (TEMPO) enhanced persulfate (PDS) activation under UVB-LEDs irradiation at 305 nm. TEMPO at a low concentration (0.1 µM) enhanced CP degradation in UV305/PDS process in deionized water at different pHs, in different anions and different molecular weight dissolved organic matter solutions and in real surface water. The enhancement was verified to be attributed to the electron shuttle role of TEMPO, which promoted the yield of SO4 •- by enhancing electron donating capacity of the reacting system. The degradation products of CP and their acute toxicities suggested that UV305/PDS/TEMPO process has better performance on CP detoxification than UV305/PDS process. This study provides a new way to tackle the challenge of pharmaceutical pollutions in homogeneous photocatalysis process for natural water and sewage restoration.

RESUMO

Ribavirin (RBV) is an antiviral drug used for treating COVID-19 infection. Its release into natural waters would threaten the health of aquatic ecosystem. This study reports an effective approach to degrade RBV by the trace N-oxyl compounds (2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-N-oxyl (TEMPO) and N-Hydroxyphthalimide (NHPI)) enhanced UV activated free chlorine (UV/Chlorine) process. The results indicated that TEMPO and NHPI at low concentrations (0.1 µM and 1 µM, respectively) could strongly enhance RBV degradation in both deionized water with different pHs and practical surface water. The enhancement was verified to be attributed to the transformation of TEMPO and NHPI into their reactive forms (i.e., TEMPO+ and PINO), which generations deeply relied on radicals. The two N-oxyl compounds inhibit ClO• yield by hindering the reaction of free chlorine vs. HO• and Cl•. The analyses on acute toxicities of RBV degradation products indicate that UV/Chlorine/N-oxyl compounds process can detoxify RBV more efficiently than UV/Chlorine process.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Prospective genetic evaluation of patients at this referral research hospital presents clinical research challenges. OBJECTIVES: This study sought not only a single-gene explanation for participants' immune-related presentations, but viewed each participant holistically, with the potential to have multiple genetic contributions to their immune phenotype and other heritable comorbidities relevant to their presentation and health. METHODS: This study developed a program integrating exome sequencing, chromosomal microarray, phenotyping, results return with genetic counseling, and reanalysis in 1505 individuals from 1000 families with suspected or known inborn errors of immunity. RESULTS: Probands were 50.8% female, 71.5% were ≥18 years, and had diverse immune presentations. Overall, 327 of 1000 probands (32.7%) received 361 molecular diagnoses. These included 17 probands with diagnostic copy number variants, 32 probands with secondary findings, and 31 probands with multiple molecular diagnoses. Reanalysis added 22 molecular diagnoses, predominantly due to new disease-gene associations (9 of 22, 40.9%). One-quarter of the molecular diagnoses (92 of 361) did not involve immune-associated genes. Molecular diagnosis was correlated with younger age, male sex, and a higher number of organ systems involved. This program also facilitated the discovery of new gene-disease associations such as SASH3-related immunodeficiency. A review of treatment options and ClinGen actionability curations suggest that at least 251 of 361 of these molecular diagnoses (69.5%) could translate into ≥1 management option. CONCLUSIONS: This program contributes to our understanding of the diagnostic and clinical utility whole exome analysis on a large scale.

RESUMO

Plasmonic Bi0 modified BiOI-Bi2O3 composite (Bi/BiOI-Bi2O3) was prepared via in situ UV reduction method. X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques were carried out to identify the formation of semimetal Bi0. The results indicated that the dot-like bismuth particles were originated from the partial reduction of lattice Bi3+ to Bi0 by accumulated conduction band electrons in BiOI-Bi2O3. The as-prepared ternary composite exhibited enhanced visible-light-response, decreased charge transfer impedance and higher charge carrier density relative to unmodified BiOI-Bi2O3. Due to synergistic effect between plasmonic Bi0 and BiOI-Bi2O3 heterojunction, dramatically enhanced photocatalytic activity for phenol degradation can be achieved. After 3.5 h visible light irradiation, the value for phenol removal efficiency was ca. 60% and 100% on BiOI-Bi2O3 and Bi/BiOI-Bi2O3, respectively. The calculated zero-order rate constant on Bi/BiOI-Bi2O3 was 1.7 and 3.9 times that on BiOI-Bi2O3 and Bi2O3, respectively. In addition to phenol, organic dyes (zwitterionic RhB, cationic MB and anionic Org II) were also used as model pollutants. Pronounced photocatalytic degradation by Bi/BiOI-Bi2O3 can be observed, further confirming the importance of Bi0. Trapping experiments using different scavengers indicated that photogenerated holes were major active species during the degradation of phenol. Furthermore, good stability was also observed in 5 successive cyclic runs. This study opens a new strategy for in situ preparation of plasmonic Bi0 modified composite.

RESUMO

Malignant melanoma is a class of highly malignant tumors derived from melanocytes. At present, the dysregulated gene expression involved in the progression of melanoma has attracted much attention. In the present study, the gene expression profile of human melanoma tissue was screened using a cDNA microarray, and it was identified that melanocyte-specific gene 1 (MSG1) was significantly overexpressed in melanoma tissue compared with paired nevus tissues. The overexpression of MSG1 in melanoma was subsequently confirmed using immunohistochemistry in a set of melanoma tissues. It was additionally identified that the overexpression of MSG1 may promote cell viability and inhibit cell apoptosis in human melanoma A375 cells, thus promoting melanoma progression. Mechanistically, following screening of the expression of apoptosis-associated proteins, MSG1 was demonstrated to enhance the expression of the apoptosis inhibitor B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) to inhibit melanoma cell apoptosis. Therefore, it was concluded that the overexpression of MSG1 inhibits apoptosis by enhancing Bcl-2 expression in malignant melanoma, thus promoting melanoma progression.

RESUMO

Although great progress has been made in therapeutic interventions for coronary artery disease (CAD), it is still the deadliest disease in the world. Currently animals that are similar to human beings in their cardiovascular pathophysiology are being used to explore the pathogenesis and therapy of CAD. There have been a series of developments in creating CAD animal models using mice, rats, rabbits, dogs, and pigs, but unfortunately there is still no acceptable model for human CAD. The ideal CAD animal model should satisfy several conditions as follows. First of all, it should have a pathophysiological process for CAD that is similar to humans. Second, it should be useable for assessing drug efficacy. The last and most important condition is that the model can be used to duplicate clinical therapeutic skills. The limitations of current methods for making animal models have meant that these models not only do not duplicate the actual pathogenesis, but also cannot be used to simulate clinical therapy, and do not support scientific evaluation of drug efficacy. Therefore, the development of a fit-for-purpose animal model for CAD is imperative for future research. Such a development will lead to rapid progress and greater efficiency in CAD research. This paper summarizes the present situation in the field of CAD animal models, and puts forwards ideas for developing a novel animal model of myocardial infarction.

RESUMO

To explore the repairing effect of combination of adipose stem cells (ASCs) and composite scaffolds on CWR, the electrospun Poly 1, 8-octanediol-co-citric acid (POC)-poly-L-lactide acid (PLA) composite scaffolds were prepared, followed by in vitro and in vivo biocompatibility evaluation of the scaffolds. Afterwards, ASCs were seeded on POC-PLA to construct the POC-PLA-ASCs scaffolds, and the POC-PLA, POC-PLA-ASCs, and traditional materials expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) were adopt for CWR in New Zealand white (NZW) rabbit models. As results, the POC-PLA-ASCs patches possessed good biocompatibility as the high proliferation ability of cells surrounding the patches. Rabbits in POC-PLA-ASCs groups showed better pulmonary function, less pleural adhesion, higher degradation rate and more neovascularization when compared with that in other two groups. The results of western blot indicated that POC-PLA-ASCs patches accelerated the expression of VEGF and Collagen I in rabbit models. From the above, our present study demonstrated that POC-PLA material was applied for CWR successfully, and ASCs seeded on the sheets could improve the pleural adhesions and promote the reparation of chest wall defects.
