RESUMO

Scabies and pediculosis are the vast major ectoparasites infesting man. Demodex folliculorum is unreported ectoparasite, since it is considered harmless. Marked pathologic infestations caused by D. folliculorum were diagnosed in five immunocompetent children, The infestations are successful treated with 2% permethrin cream.

RESUMO

From the medical point of view, the relation between man and rodents comes in the priority. Some rodent populations are wild but others are commensal and live in close association with man. They steal his food and conveying many zoonotic diseases. Their arthropod ectoparasites play an important role in conveying or transmitting these zoonotic diseases. Several disorders and diseases of man are tick borne relapsing fever, Rocky mountain spotted fever, Lyme disease, and many others. Besides numerous species of mites occasionally infest man. They transmit several diseases as Rickettsia tsutsugamushi fever, epidemic haemorrhagic fever, and they cause severe allergic reaction. The results obtained are summarized in the following (1) Six species and subspecies of rodents were detected. In a descending order of abundance, they were (a) Rattus norvegicus, (b) Rattus rattus alexandrinus (c) Rattus rattus frugivorous (d) Acomys cahirinus (e) Gerbillus gerbillus asyutensis (f) Mus m. praetextus. (2) The most common rodent was R. norvegicus and the least common was M. musculus. (3) The collected ticks and mites were 2 genera of tick larvae; Rhipicephalus species and Hyalomma species. The collected mites were Ornithonyssus bacoti and Laelaps nuttali. (4) Most of the tick larvae were collected from wild rodents; Gerbillus g. asyutensis. (5) Most of the mites were collected from commensal rodents particularly R. norvegicus. Descriptive morphology and illustrations were given to the collected rodents and their acari ectoparasites.

RESUMO

Chronic liver diseases mainly due to schistosomiasis is a common clinical feature in Egypt. On the other hand, Toxoplasma latent infection is another common feature. In this paper, it was aimed to study the role of Toxoplasma latent infection in patients with chronic liver diseases mainly due to schistosomiasis. The latent Toxoplasma infection was measured by the positivity of IgG to ELISA and the negativity of IgM to DS-ELISA. The cellular immunity was assessed by the dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB) skin test. The clinical and the laboratory studies showed that latent Toxoplasma infection had no marked effect on the progression of the chronic liver diseases.

RESUMO

The most important insects from medical point of view, are the blood suckers or the insect-borne diseases. Still others, almost non-blood suckers, but may attack man and animal to deposit their eggs or larvae causing pathogenic condition known as myiasis. In the present paper, a total of nine myiasis producing dipterous flies were collected from Cairo and Giza abattoirs. They were: Musca d. vicina, Calliphora vicina, Chrysomyia albiceps, C. marginalis, Lucilia sericata, L. cuprina, Sarcophaga haemorrhoidalis, Wohlfahrtia magnifica and Oestrus ovis. Their role as myiasis producers in man and animal was discussed.

RESUMO

The importance of sandflies of the genus Phlebotomus being in the fact that some species are the vectors of leishmaniasis and other pathogenic organisms such as virus of sandfly fever. In Egypt, cutaneous leishmaniasis and sandfly fever are known and recently visceral leishmaniasis has been identified in Alexandria. Consequently, there is a need to study the geographical distribution of Phlebotomus species and to present an illustrative key for their identification. In the present study, four species of Phlebotomus were reported; P. papatasi, P. sergenti, P. langeroni and P. bergeroti. While P. papatasi is a known vector of zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis, P. langeroni is an incriminated vector for infantile visceral leishmaniasis, P. papatasi is the predominant species in the Nile Delta, but P. langeroni is found in West Alexandria and as a very rare species at the Libyan Egyptian borders. The whole results were discussed.

RESUMO

In a trial to assess the role of red cells antigens in pathogenesis of filariasis, 520 individuals from El Korean village were examined clinically to detect clinical filariasis, blood examined by counting chamber to detect microfilaraemic cases and red cell antigens (ABO system, Rh system and MN system) using slide method. The study showed no statistical significance association between filariasis (clinical and microfilaraemic) and red cells antigens.
