RESUMO

Objective: To investigate the association between the preterm birth and low birth weight and parental thalassemia. Methods: Pregnant women and their husbands receiving prenatal examination in local hospitals or maternal and child health centers in Jingxi and Debao in Guangxi from January to December 2017 were selected as study subjects. A total of 758 pregnant women with pregnancy outcomes and their husbands, who were both or alone diagnosed with thalassemia through thalassemia gene detection, were selected as case group and 758 pregnant women with pregnancy outcomes and their husbands, who were negative in thalassemia gene detection and hemoglobin electrophoresis test were selected as control groups. The case group were further divided into mother group, father group and both mother and farther group. Clinical and pregnancy outcome data of the study subjects were collected for the analysis on the association between parental thalassaemia and preterm birth or low birth weight by the independent sample t test, χ(2) test and Cox regression analysis. Results: The incidence of preterm birth in case group and control group was about 6.5% and 1.6% and the incidence of low birth weight in case group and control group was about 7.3% and 0.8%. After adjusting for possible confounding factors, Cox regression analysis results showed that mother suffering from thalassemia (aRR=3.45, 95%CI: 1.35-8.81, P=0.010), fathers suffering from thalassemia (aRR=4.93, 95%CI: 2.16-11.21, P<0.001) and both mother and farther suffering from thalassemia (aRR=5.13, 95%CI: 2.62-10.04, P<0.001) were associated with preterm birth. Mother suffering from thalassemia (aRR=12.98, 95%CI: 4.91-34.30, P<0.001), fathers suffering from thalassemia (aRR=9.40, 95%CI: 3.40-25.95, P<0.001) and both mother and farther suffering from thalassemia (aRR=10.74, 95%CI: 4.44-26.00, P<0.001) were associated with low birth weight. The newborn whose parent all suffered from thalassemia had higher risks for preterm birth (χ(2)=22.72, P<0.001)and low birth weight (χ(2)=34.03, P<0.001) compared with those only with mother or father suffering from thalassemia. Conclusion: Parental thalassaemia, including both sides and single side, might increase the risks of preterm birth and low birth weight for newborn, and the risks might be higher in newborn with both mother and father suffering from thalassaemia.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the influence of overweight/obesity on the incidence of hypertension among adults in China. METHODS: The subjects of this prospective study were 13 739 Chinese adults aged 35-74 years recruited at the baseline surveys of China Multicenter Collaborative Study of Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and International Collaborative Study of Cardiovascular Disease in Asian. Baseline surveys were conducted in 1998 and during 2000-2001, respectively, and the follow-up was conducted during 2007-2008. According to the body mass index, the subjects were divided into four groups: underweight group(<18.5 kg/m(2)), normal weight group(18.5-23.9 kg/m(2)), overweight group(24.0-27.9 kg/m(2))and obesity group(≥28.0 kg/m(2)). Age-standardized cumulative incidence of hypertension was calculated for each group, respectively. The relative risks(RRs)and 95% confidence intervals(CIs)for the incidence of hypertension of underweight, overweight and obesity groups were estimated by using generalized linear regression model with normal weight group as reference. RESULTS: During 8.1 years of follow-up, 4 271 hypertension cases were detected(2 012 in men and 2 259 in women). Age-standardized cumulative incidence of hypertension for the underweight, normal weight, overweight and obesity groups were 20.3%, 30.9%, 43.6% and 50.8% in men, respectively; and 22.9%, 30.4%, 41.1% and 50.8% in women, respectively. Compared with the normal weight group, multivariate-adjusted RR(95% CI)for the incidence of hypertension in underweight, overweight and obesity groups were 0.78(0.64-0.95), 1.22(1.13-1.30)and 1.28(1.16-1.42)in men, respectively; and 0.89(0.77-1.03), 1.16(1.09-1.23)and 1.28(1.18-1.38)in women, respectively. The overweight and obese subjects had higher risk for the incidence of hypertension, with the population attributable risk proportion of 7.4% in men and 8.8% in women, respectively. CONCLUSION: Overweight or obese people are at an increased risk of developing hypertension, thus prevention and control of overweight/obesity are needed to reduce hypertension incidence among adults in China.

RESUMO

Levels of VIIIR: Ag, VIII: C and fibrinogen (Fbg) in plasma have been measured in 80 patients with primary lung cancer. The results demonstrate that the plasma levels of VIIIR: Ag, VIII:C and Fbg in patients with lung cancer increase significantly in comparison with normal control group (P < 0.001). The levels increase along with the disease progressing. After treatment, all the three levels have decreased in treatment effective group. It is concluded that the measurements of plasma levels of VIIIR: Ag, VIII:C and Fbg are important in judging the condition of patients, to prognose and instruct the treatment for patients with lung cancer.

RESUMO

In order to elucidate the biochemical mechanism of sperm capacitation, the relationship between plasmalemma Na,K-ATPase, capacitation and acrosome reaction was investigated. Plasmalemma of guinea pig spermatozoa was isolated by sucrose gradient centrifugation for the determination of Na,K-ATPase activity. As far as the authors are aware, the Na,K-ATPase activity in plasmalemma of the guinea pig has never been detected. By treating sperm plasmalemma with 0.05% DOC (deoxycholate), enzyme activity could be quantitatively measured. After spermatozoa were incubated in capacitation medium for 8 h, Na,K-ATPase activity was found to be decreased to 35.6% as compared with that before incubation. The spermatozoa incubated for 10.5 h in capacitation medium containing 1 and 5 mumol/L ouabain showed 46.5% and 64.4% acrosome reactions respectively, while the acrosome reaction of the control group was only 27.4%. The above results suggest that the decrease in the Na,K-ATPase activity of guinea pig spermatozoa may be a prerequisite for capacitation. Experimental results demonstrated for the first time that Na,K-ATPase activity exists in the sperm plasmalemma of the guinea pig. It was further found that the decrease of Na,K-ATPase activity of plasmalemma enhances sperm capacitation. It is suggested that sperm capacitation in the guinea pig is possibly induced by the decrease in plasmalemma Na,K-ATPase and, as a consequence, the intracellular Na+ is increased, which would benefit the exchange of Na+out/Ca++in and the onset of acrosome reaction.
