RESUMO

Energy transfer upconversion (ETU) coefficient plays a crucial role in investigating complex laser systems as it greatly influences both the laser output behavior and heat generation. For some quasi-three-energy-level lasers based on Er3+ doped, Ho3+ doped and codoped gain media, the available theoretical studies relied on some unreasonable approximations due to the lack of spectroscopic data, notably the ETU coefficient. We put forward what we believe is a novel approach to overcome the difficulties caused by wavelength jump occurred in aforementioned laser systems. Based on net gain cross-section analysis and rate equations modelling, the functional relationship between the ETU coefficient, the laser power and pump power at the jumping wavelength are established. ETU coefficients and their temperature dependences of Er,Yb:YAB crystals with different crystal doped concentrations are experimentally determined for the first time. The results reveal that the ETU process in Er,Yb:YAB laser system is 5∼35 times stronger than that in Er3+ and Yb3+ codoped phosphate glass. The determination of these spectroscopic data paves the way for precise modelling of laser system based on Er,Yb:YAB or similar gain media.

RESUMO

A wavelength tuning method suitable to watt-level continuous-wave single frequency solid-state laser (CWSFL) at 1.5 µm was proposed. Based on a dual-gain-medium resonator design, the laser wavelength can be tuned by manipulating the combined net gain spectrum. Comparing with the traditional tuning method, the wavelength tuning range was eight times broader and extended to 0.438 nm, the maximum laser power was raised up to 0.64 W, which was the highest record for the 1.5 µm CWSFL to the best of our knowledge. The laser intensity noise reached the shot noise limit at the analysis frequency above 3.5 MHz. Wider wavelength tuning band of 5.58 nm can be expected when the same resonator design including two gain media with different doped concentrations was used, according to our theory.

RESUMO

Background: Human serum albumin (HSA) is a commonly used medication for the treatment of sepsis. However, there is no conclusive evidence as to whether different concentrations of HSA are associated with patient prognosis. This study aimed to evaluate the association between different concentrations of HSA and 28-day mortality in patients with sepsis. Methods: The data for this retrospective study were collected from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV database. Patients with sepsis were divided into two groups according to the concentration of HSA received: 25% and 5% HSA. The primary outcome of this study was the 28-day mortality in patients with sepsis. To ensure the robustness of our findings, we used multivariate Cox regression, propensity score matching, double-robust estimation, and inverse probability weighting models. Results: A total of 76,943 patients were screened, of whom 5,009 were enrolled. 1,258 and 3,751 patients received 25% and 5% HSA, respectively. The 28-day mortality rate was 38.2% (481/1,258) for patients in the 25% HSA group and 8.7% (325/3,751) for patients in the 5% HSA group. After propensity score matching, 1,648 patients were identified. The inverse probability weighting model suggested that 5% HSA received was associated with lower 28-day mortality (hazard ratio [HR]: 0.63, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.54-0.73, p < 0.001). Subgroup and sensitivity analysis confirmed the robustness of the results. Conclusion: In patients with sepsis, 5% HSA received may be associated with a lower risk of 28-day mortality than 25% HSA. Further randomized controlled trials are required to confirm this association.

RESUMO

Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) is an antiretroviral medication with significant curative effects, so its quantitative detection is important for human health. At present, there are few studies on the detection of TDF by electrochemical sensors. This work can be a supplement to the electrochemical detection of TDF. Moreover, bare electrodes are susceptible to pollution, and have high overvoltage and low sensitivity, so it is crucial to find a suitable electrode material. In this work, zirconium oxide (ZrO2) that has a certain selectivity to phosphoric acid groups was synthesized by a hydrothermal method with zirconyl chloride octahydrate as the precursor. A composite modified glassy carbon electrode for zirconium oxide-chitosan-multiwalled carbon nanotubes (ZrO2-CS-MWCNTs/GCE) was used for the first time to detect the TDF, and achieved rapid, sensitive detection of TDF with a detection limit of sub-micron content. The ZrO2-CS-MWCNTs composite was created using sonication of a mixture of ZrO2 and CS-MWCNTs solution. The composite was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and cyclic voltammetry (CV). Electrochemical analysis was performed using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). Compared with single-material electrodes, the ZrO2-CS-MWCNTs/GCE significantly improves the electrochemical sensing of TDF due to the synergistic effect of the composite. Under optimal conditions, the proposed method has achieved good results in linear range (0.3~30 µM; 30~100 µM) and detection limit (0.0625 µM). Moreover, the sensor has the merits of simple preparation, good reproducibility and good repeatability. The ZrO2-CS-MWCNTs/GCE has been applied to the determination of TDF in serum and urine, and it may be helpful for potential applications of other substances with similar structures.

RESUMO

The global pandemic COVID-19 has led to an increase in the number of people purchasing food online, which has brought to a higher demand on the food supply chain. Such as the need to collect more information related to food safety and quality in real-time. Strengthening management of food logistics information flow can reduce food loss and waste and bring better quality and safety of food to consumers. In this review, the importance and applicability of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology to smart food packaging are described. This study emphasizes the recent advancement of the RFID tags in humidity, temperature, gas, pH, integrity, and traceability sensor applications in connection with food packaging. RFID sensors are more suitable for smart packaging both in terms of sensing ability and data transmission. A simpler, low-cost, more robust and less power-demanding sensors network is the development direction of smart packaging in the future. Chipless RFID sensors have the potential to achieve these functions. But it still faces many challenges to be overcome. For example, biocompatible, cost, reading range, multi-tag collision, multi-parameter sensors, recycling issues, security and privacy of RFID system should be solved.

RESUMO

Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) is an important forage in intercropping or rotation ecosystem, and shading is the principal limiting factor for its growth under the crop or forest. Agronomic studies showed that shading would systematically reduce the biomass of alfalfa. However, little is known about the reproduction of alfalfa under shading conditions. In order to study the effect of shading on the reproductive characteristics of alfalfa, two alfalfa cultivars ("Victoria" and "Eureka") were used to study the effect of shading levels (full light, 56.4% shade, and 78.7% shade) on alfalfa flowering phenology, pollen viability, stigma receptivity, and seed quality. Results showed that shading delayed flowering phenology, shortened the flowering stage, faded the flower colors, and significantly reduced pollen viability, stigma receptivity, the number of flowers, quantity, and quality of seeds. Under shading conditions, seed yield per plant was obviously positively correlated with germination potential, germination rate, pollen viability, and 1,000-seed weight. The number of flower buds, pollen viability, 1,000-seed weight, and germination rate had the greatest positive direct impact on seed yield per plant. Our findings suggested that delayed flowering and reducing reproduction growth were important strategies for alfalfa to cope with shading and pollen viability was the key bottleneck for the success of alfalfa reproduction under shading. However, given that alfalfa is a perennial vegetative-harvest forage, delaying flowering in a weak light environment was beneficial to maintain the high aboveground biomass of alfalfa. Therefore, this should be taken into account when breeding alfalfa cultivars suitable for intercropping. Future research should further reveal the genetic and molecular mechanism of delayed flowering regulating the accumulation and distribution of assimilates between vegetative and reproductive organs of alfalfa under shading, so as to provide a theoretical basis for breeding of shade-tolerant alfalfa cultivars.

RESUMO

A real time deterministic quantum teleportation over a single fiber channel was implemented experimentally by exploiting the generated EPR entanglement at 1550 nm. A 1342 nm laser beam was used to transfer the classical information in real time and also acted as a synchronous beam to realize the synchronization of the quantum and classical information. The dependence of the fidelity on the transmission distance of the fiber channel was studied experimentally with optimizing the transmission efficiency of the lossy channel that was established to manipulate the beam of the EPR entanglement in Alice's site. The maximum transmission distance of the deterministic quantum teleportation was 10 km with the fidelity of 0.51 ± 0.01, which is higher than the classical teleportation limit of 1/2. The work provides a feasible scheme to establish metropolitan quantum networks over fiber channels based on deterministic quantum teleportation.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Paraquat (N,N0-dimethyl-4,40-bipyridinium dichloride;PQ) is a highly toxic pesticide, which usually leads to acute lung injury and subsequent development of pulmonary fibrosis. The exact mechanism underlying PQ-induced lung fibrosis remain largely unclear and as yet, no specific treatment drugs have been approved. Our study aimed to identify its potential mechanisms of PQ-induced fibrosis through a modeling study in vitro studies and bioinformatics analysis. METHODS: Gene expression datasets associated with PQ-induced lung fibrosis were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus, wherefrom differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified using GEO2R. Functional enrichment analyses were performed using the Database for Annotation Visualization and Integrated Discovery. The DEGs analyzed by a protein-protein interaction network was constructed with the Search Tool for the Retrieval of Interacting Genes database. MCODE, a Cytoscape plugin, was subsequently used to identify the most significant modules. The expression of the key genes in PQ-induced pulmonary fibrotic tissues was verified by reverse transcription-quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). RESULTS: Two datasets were analyzed and revealed 92 overlapping DEGs. Functional analysis demonstrated that these 92 DEGs were enriched in the 'TNF signaling pathway', 'CXCR chemokine receptor binding', and 'core promoter binding'. Moreover, nine hub genes were identified from the protein-protein interaction network formed from the DEGs. These results suggested that the TNF signaling pathway and nine hub genes are possibly involved in PQ-induced lung fibrosis progression. CONCLUSIONS: This integrative analysis identified candidate genes and pathways potentially involved in PQ-induced lung fibrosis, and could benefit future development of novel approaches for controlling and treating this disease.

RESUMO

A method with high sensitivity, good accuracy and fast response is of ever increasing importance for the simultaneous detection of AA, DA and UA. In this paper, a simple and sensitive electrochemical sensor, which based on the polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)-graphene composite film modified glassy carbon electrode (PVP-GR/GCE), was presented for detecting ascorbic acid (AA), dopamine (DA) and uric acid (UA) simultaneously. The PVP-GR/GCE has excellent electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation of AA, DA and UA. The second-order derivative linear sweep voltammetry was used for the electrochemical measurements. The peak potential differences of DA-AA, DA-UA, and UA-AA (measured on the PVP-GR/GCE) were 212, 130 and 342 mV respectively. Besides, the over potential of AA, DA and UA reduced obviously, so did the peak current increase. Under the optimum conditions, the linear ranges of AA, DA and UA were 4.0 µM-1.0 mM, 0.02-100 µM, and 0.04-100 µM, respectively. The detection limits were 0.8 µM, 0.002 µM and 0.02 µM for AA, DA, and UA. The electrochemical sensor presented the advantages of high sensitivity and selectivity, excellent reproducibility and long-term stability. Furthermore, the sensor was successfully applied to the analysis of real samples.

RESUMO

In this paper, an electrochemical method for the measurement of tryptophan (Trp) was developed based on a glassy carbon electrode modified with polyvinylpyrrolidonefunctionalized graphene (PVP-GR)/glassy carbon electrode (GCE). In 0.1 M phosphate buffer solution (PBS, pH = 2.2), compared with bare GCE, PVP/GCE, and GR/GCE, the oxidation peak current of Trp increased dramatically at PVP-GR/GCE. The oxidation mechanism of Trp on the PVP-GR/GCE was discussed and the experimental conditions were optimized. Under the best experimental conditions, the oxidation peak current of Trp was proportional to its concentration in the range of 0.06 µM-10.0 µM and 10.0-100.0 µM, and the limit of detection (LOD) was 0.01 µM (S/N = 3). The target modified electrode with excellent repeatability, stability and selectivity, was successfully applied to detectTrp in drugs and biological samples.

RESUMO

Carbon starvation is the current leading hypothesis of plant mortality mechanisms under drought stress; recently, it is also used to explain tree die-off in plant diseases. However, the molecular biology of the carbon starvation pathway is unclear. Here, using a punch inoculation system, we conducted transcriptome and physiological assays to investigate pathogen response in poplar stems at the early stages of Botryosphaeria and Valsa canker diseases. Transcriptome assays showed that the majority of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in stem phloem and xylem, such as genes involved in carbon metabolism and transportation, aquaporin genes (in xylem) and genes related to the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites and the phenylpropanoid pathway (related to lignin synthesis), were downregulated at 7 days after inoculation (DAI). Results also showed that the expression of the majority of disease-resistance genes upregulated in poplar stems, which may be connected with the downregulation expression of the majority of WRKY family genes. Physiological assays showed that transpiration rate decreased but WUE (water use efficiency) increased the 3 and 7 DAI, while the net photosynthetic rate decreased at 11 DAI in Botryosphaeria infected poplars (ANOVA, P < 0.05). The NSC (non-structural carbohydrates) content assays showed that the soluble sugar content of stem phloem samples increased at 3, 7, and 11 DAI that might due to the impede of pathogen infection. However, soluble sugar content of stem xylem and root samples decreased at 11 DAI; in contrast, the starch content unchanged. Therefore, results revealed a chronological order of carbon related molecular and physiological performance: declination of genes involved in carbon and starch metabolism first (at least at 7 DAI), declination of assimilation and carbon reserve (at 11 DAI) second. Results implied a potential mechanism that affects the host carbon reserve, by directly inhibiting the expression of genes involved in carbon metabolism and transport.

RESUMO

A self-consistent theoretical model considering both energy-transfer upconversion (ETU) and excited-state absorption (ESA) effects, as well as the couplings among the temperature distribution in the laser crystal, the thermal fractional loading, the upper state population involved in the ETU and ESA effects, the laser output and other temperature-dependent parameters, was developed to simulate the behaviors of diode-end-pumped continuous-wave (CW) single-transverse-mode (TEM00) lasers. Based on the theoretical and experimental investigations of the influences of ETU and ESA effects on laser performance, a high power CW TEM00 Nd:YVO4 1.34 µm laser dual-end pumped at 880 nm was achieved with a maximum output power of 16 W. The measured laser beam quality was M2x = M2y = 1.17 and the stability of the laser output was better than ± 0.9% in a given four hours. The theoretical predictions considering both ETU and ESA effects are in good agreement with experimental results.

RESUMO

Phase quadrature squeezed states at 1550 nm generated from degenerate optical parametric amplifiers (DOPAs) using periodically poled KTiOPO4 (PPKTP) and periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) are compared. A squeezing of 6.8 dB was produced from the DOPA using PPKTP with the phase matching temperature of 34.5 °C. By contrast, a measured squeezing of 4.9 dB was generated using PPLN with the phase matching temperature of 135.2 °C. The degradation of squeezing using a nonlinear crystal with a high phase matching temperature is explained by a theoretical model of DOPAs including the extra phase noise caused by the guided acoustic wave Brillouin scattering within the nonlinear crystal.

RESUMO

A universal model about the sufficient condition of stable single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) operation is established and applied to the theoretical analysis of a high power unidirectional ring Nd:YVO4 laser at 1342 nm with energy transfer upconversion and excited stimulated absorption taken into account. A stable continuous-wave SLM laser with 1342 nm power of 11.3 W and 671 nm power of 0.3 W is fabricated by optimizing the transmission of output coupler and the temperature of LiB3O5 crystal. Mode-hopping-free laser operation with a power stability better than ± 0.5% and a frequency fluctuation less than ± 88 MHz is achieved during a given three hours.

RESUMO

A number of transcriptome datasets for differential expression (DE) genes have been widely used for understanding organismal biology, but these datasets also contain untapped information that can be used to develop more precise analytical tools. With the use of transcriptome data generated from poplar/canker disease interaction system, we describe a methodology to identify candidate reference genes from high-throughput sequencing data. This methodology will improve the accuracy of RT-qPCR and will lead to better standards for the normalization of expression data. Expression stability analysis from xylem and phloem of Populus bejingensis inoculated with the fungal canker pathogen Botryosphaeria dothidea revealed that 729 poplar transcripts (1.11%) were stably expressed, at a threshold level of coefficient of variance (CV) of FPKM < 20% and maximum fold change (MFC) of FPKM < 2.0. Expression stability and bioinformatics analysis suggested that commonly used house-keeping (HK) genes were not the most appropriate internal controls: 70 of the 72 commonly used HK genes were not stably expressed, 45 of the 72 produced multiple isoform transcripts, and some of their reported primers produced unspecific amplicons in PCR amplification. RT-qPCR analysis to compare and evaluate the expression stability of 10 commonly used poplar HK genes and 20 of the 729 newly-identified stably expressed transcripts showed that some of the newly-identified genes (such as SSU_S8e, LSU_L5e, and 20S_PSU) had higher stability ranking than most of commonly used HK genes. Based on these results, we recommend a pipeline for deriving reference genes from transcriptome data. An appropriate candidate gene should have a unique transcript, constitutive expression, CV value of expression < 20% (or possibly 30%) and MFC value of expression <2, and an expression level of 50-1,000 units. Lastly, when four of the newly identified HK genes were used in the normalization of expression data for 20 differential expressed genes, expression analysis gave similar values to Cufflinks output. The methods described here provide an alternative pathway for the normalization of transcriptome data, a process that is essential for integrating analyses of transcriptome data across environments, laboratories, sequencing platforms, and species.

RESUMO

The distribution of continuous variable (CV) Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR)-entangled beams at a telecommunication wavelength of 1550 nm over single-mode fibers is investigated. EPR-entangled beams with quantum entanglement of 8.3 dB are generated using a single nondegenerate optical parametric amplifier based on a type-II periodically poled KTiOPO4 crystal. When one beam of the generated EPR-entangled beams is distributed over 20 km of single-mode fiber, 1.02 dB quantum entanglement can still be measured. The degradation of CV quantum entanglement in a noisy fiber channel is theoretically analyzed considering the effect of depolarized guided acoustic wave Brillouin scattering in optical fibers. The theoretical prediction is in good agreement with the experimental results.

RESUMO

The singly resonant optical parametric oscillator (SRO) under double-pass pumping in a two-mirror linear cavity is investigated theoretically and experimentally. Different output couplers are used in the periodically poled lithium niobate based SRO to optimize the extracted signal output. When the 2.5% output coupler is used, a pump threshold as low as 3.7 W is achieved, and 6.2 W of signal at 1.56 µm with the linewidth of 62.5 kHz is obtained at pump power of 14.5 W. The measured signal frequency drift and peak-to-peak power fluctuation are less than ±40 MHz and ±0.9% in a given 1 h, respectively.

RESUMO

We build up a LD end-pumped Er,Yb:YAB laser at 1.55 µm and improve the laser performance by end cooling the gain medium efficiently through a sapphire plate. 680 mW cw single transverse mode laser output was obtained with the slope efficiency of 16.3%. Using an etalon placed in the laser cavity, 400 mW cw single frequency 1.55 µm laser output was achieved with the slope efficiency of 11.8%. The laser power fluctuation was less than ± 1.3% in a given period of 1.5 hours. The 1.55 µm laser presents low noise properties, that the intensity and the phase noise reach the shot noise level for the analysis frequencies higher than 4 MHz and 5 MHz, respectively.

RESUMO

Multimode nonclassical states of light are an essential resource in quantum computation with continuous variables, for example, in cluster state computation. We report in this Letter the first experimental evidence of a multimode nonclassical frequency comb in a femtosecond synchronously pumped optical parametric oscillator. In addition to a global reduction of its quantum intensity fluctuations, the system features quantum correlations between different parts of its frequency spectrum. This allows us to show that the frequency comb is composed of several uncorrelated eigenmodes having specific spectral shapes, two of them at least being squeezed, and to characterize their spectral shapes.

RESUMO

We have demonstrated a 2 W cw single frequency 1.56 microm laser using a diode laser seeded Erbium doped fiber power amplifier, and a 715 mW cw single-frequency 780 nm laser by an external cavity enhanced second-harmonic-generation. The performance of the system was improved greatly by the seed diode laser optical locked to the resonant frequency of confocal F-P cavity. The linewidth of the 1.56 microm laser was narrowed from 2 MHz to 200 kHz, meanwhile, the intensity and phase noises were suppressed by 10 dB and 12 dB, respectively. The linewidth of the 780 nm laser was narrowed from 2 MHz to 300 kHz, meanwhile, the intensity and phase noises were suppressed by 11 dB and 13 dB, respectively.
