RESUMO

Epileptic seizures due to pyridoxine deficiency, although rare, are known to occur. They are characterized by untreatable convulsions during childhood. We present the case of an epileptic status resistant to conventional treatment in a 29-year-old woman, with no previous history of epileptic seizures, in the 29th week of pregnancy, who responded to the intravenous administration of pyridoxine.

RESUMO

A description is offered of a toxic and febrile young patient with diarrheic syndrome of twenty days evolution secondary to extranodal lymphoma of cecal location. A concomitant immunity deficit--selective IgA deficit--appeared in the form of chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis and discoid lupus, and in the absence of familial antecedents. As a result of this case study, an association of gastrointestinal lymphoma of unusual location with an underlying immune disorder, the literature was reviewed.

RESUMO

Collagen metabolism was studied in both, the developing and resorptive phases of carrageenin granuloma. The rate of collagen biosynthesis relative to the rate of total protein synthesis is almost twice as high during the deposit phase compared with the resorptive phase of the same process. Total collagenolytic activity appears to be approximately the same in both, deposit and resorption stages of the granuloma. Notwithstanding, the enzyme is fully active during resorption; whereas half of this activity is in a latent form during deposit. Collagenolytic activity increased remarkably when assayed at 30 mM CaCl2 as compared to 10 or 50 mM.
