OBJECTIVE: To assess contemporary adherence to the minimum data set proposed for future publication in the 1997 American Urological Association (AUA) guidelines on the surgical management of female SUI in 1997. guidelines among recently published literature. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We reviewed all publications included in the AUA/SUFU Surgical Treatment of Female SUI Guidelines and included articles that reported surgical outcomes for SUI treatment. They were abstracted for the reporting of the previously defined 22 data points. Each article received a compliance score as a percent of parameters met out of the 22 data points. RESULTS: Three hundred eighty articles from the 2017 AUA guidelines search, in combination with an independent updated literature search were included. There was an average compliance score of 62%. The best compliance rates for individual data points were: defined criteria for success (95%) and patient history (97%). The lowest compliance rates were: minimum follow-up >48 months (8%) and post-treatment micturition diary (17%). There was no difference between mean rates of reporting for articles before and after the SUFU/AUA 2017 guidelines (61% pre vs 65% post). CONCLUSION: Adherence to reporting the most recent minimum standards in the current SUI literature is largely suboptimal. This apparent lack of compliance may suggest a role for a more stringent editorial review process, or alternatively that the prior suggested data set was overly burdensome and/or irrelevant.

A sensitive method based on ultrasound-assisted liquid extraction coupled with liquid chromatography was applied to screen 18 plastic-related contaminants in 168 food composites (namely fish fillets, chicken breast, canned tuna, leafy vegetables, bread and butter) collected in Montreal (Canada), Pretoria and Vhembe (South Africa). Bisphenol A (BPA), bisphenol S (BPS) and seven plasticizers (di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP), diethyl phthalate (DEP), (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), di-(2-ethylhexyl) adipate (DEHA), di-isononyl phthalate (DINP), di-(isononyl)-cyclohexane-1,2-dicarboxylate (DINCH)) were detected in different foods from both countries. DBP and DEP were the most frequently detected contaminants in food collected in Montreal (75% for both) and DINP was the most frequently detected contaminant in food from South Africa (67%). DEHA concentration in packaged fish were significantly higher than the values for non-packaged fish (p < 0.01) suggesting that the packaging film can be one source of DEHA in fish.

PURPOSE: To assess persistent and de novo rates of overactive bladder (OAB) and urgency urinary incontinence (UUI) in patients with incontinence after prostate treatment (IPT) focusing on differences between surgical intervention vs radiation. METHODS: We performed a retrospective review of 79 patients who underwent primary artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) placement and activation from a single surgeon between February 2012 and November 2017. Four patients with neurogenic bladder were excluded and two with insufficient follow-up. The primary outcome measures were persistent OAB, persistent UUI, and pad usage before and after AUS placement. RESULTS: After activation of the AUS, 67% of non-radiated patients had resolution of urgency incontinence vs only 31% of the radiated patients (P = .096). After activation of the AUS, resolution of OAB symptoms was more common in the non-radiated group. We found 53% of the non-radiated group vs only 22% of the radiated group had resolution of their urinary urgency (P = .045). Previous history of radiation was a risk factor for OAB after implantation of AUS (odds ratio [OR], 3.63; P = .010). Postoperative oral medical pharmacotherapy for OAB was higher in those with previous radiation vs those without prior radiation (66.7% vs 25.7%, P = .001). A history of OAB or UUI did not affect social continence after AUS placement. CONCLUSION: Radiation is a risk for continued OAB after AUS activation. Appropriate counseling is necessary pre- and postoperatively to manage patient expectations and provide additional medical therapies. Mixed urinary incontinence or OAB symptoms should not exclude patients from undergoing AUS placement.

The targeted analysis of veterinary drug residues in honey traditionally involves a series of extraction and purification steps prior to quantification with high performance liquid chromatography coupled to high resolution or tandem mass spectrometry. These steps, designed to separate the target analytes from interferences, are generally time-consuming and costly. In addition, traditional cleanup steps are likely to eliminate other compounds whose analysis could prove decisive in current or future assessment of the honey sample. Alternatively, direct injection without complex sample preparation steps has been introduced for the fast analysis of trace compounds in environmental and food matrices. The aim of this study was to develop a rapid method for the targeted analysis of 7 key veterinary drug residues in honey based on direct injection high performance liquid chromatography coupled to quadrupole time-of-flight, while simultaneously recording data-independent MS/MS (e.g. All Ions MS/MS data) for future re-examination of the data for other purposes. The new method allowed for the detection of the target residues at levels approximately 20-100 times lower than current regulatory limits, for a total analysis time of about 45 min. The recoveries (103-119%), the linearity (R ≥ 0.996) and the repeatability (RSD ≤ 7%) were satisfactory. The method was then applied to 35 honey samples from the Canadian market. Residues of tylosin A, tylosin B, sulfamethazine and sulfadimethoxine were detected in 6, 9, 6 and 23% of the samples respectively, at levels below the regulatory limits in Canada. The possibility of adding a hydrolysis step to study sulfonamides in honey was tested, which provided good results for this family of compounds but lead to degradation of some of the other analytes. Finally, the non-targeted identification of several compounds was demonstrated as a proof of concept of future re-examination of All Ions MS/MS data. This paper illustrates the capacity of this novel method to combine targeted and non-targeted screening of chemical residues in honey.
