RESUMO

Green mining is the basic background of high-quality mining, and source reduction is the most important part, among which the optimization of working face height and length is the most active. How to control the working face parameters, reasonably evaluate the surface subsidence characteristics of the super-long working face, and identify the limit working face length and the surface discontinuous deformation threshold is particularly important. In order to solve the problem of irreversible damage to the surface caused by the mining process of the working face, this paper discusses the whole process of surface movement in the 8.8 m super-large mining height working face of Shangwan Coal Mine through field investigation, the maximum subsidence is 6.20 m, with a subsidence coefficient of 0.72. Combined with the inflection point trajectory, advancing degree and subsidence coefficient, the 0.9 coefficient of the working face subsidence basin boundary and the loss reduction strategy far from the limit working face threshold are proposed. The results show that the subsidence basin of 12,401 working face accounts for 34%, the continuous deformation area of surface accounts for 64%, and the influence area of discontinuous deformation area is within 10 times of mining height. With the help of borehole detection verification, the caving zone height within the coal seam overburden to be between 33.2 and 33.25 m and the fracture zone height between 118.08 and 132.83 m. Therefore, the caving ratio is about 3.8, and the fracture ratio is about 13-15, which provides a strong basis for the optimization design of working face and the timing of surface ecological management.

RESUMO

A neoplasm was found in the left nasal cavity of a 45-year-old woman during electronic laryngoscopy for reflux pharyngitis. She reported experiencing an occasional slight headache in the left parietal region for 1 to 2 years, which she considered a migraine. Electronic laryngoscopy showed a gray, soft, smooth neoplasm in the left nasal meatus, located near the olfactory region blocking the olfactory clef and compressing the left middle turbinate. The neoplasm was resected at endonasal endoscopic surgery. Histological assessments indicated chronic mucus inflammation and cyst formation. This is a rare case because the polyp was large but asymptomatic and originated from nasal septum.

RESUMO

•we report the case of a 36-year-old female patient who presented to our hospital with a diagnosis of cystitis glandularis manifesting as a vesicovaginal fistula. She underwent cystoscopic biopsy at a local hospital, but anti-inflammatory treatment was ineffective, and the patient was experiencing low urination frequency and urgency, as well as pain. The patient underwent laparoscopic repair of a cystoscopy-confirmed vesicovaginal fistula. After surgery, the patient experienced a paroxysm of Crohn's disease with multiple small bowel fistulas and erosion of the external iliac vessels that ruptured to form an external iliac vessel small bowel fistula. The fistula was confirmed by surgical exploration, and the patient eventually died.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To explore the epidemiological trends in acetabular fracture and report the mid-term to long-term clinical outcomes of the elderly treated with operation. METHODS: Retrospective study. Patients aged ≥ 14 years with operative treatment of the Acetabular fracture from Jan 2010 to Dec 2019 at a level-1 trauma centre were identified to analyze the epidemiological trends, and the difference in fracture patterns between young and elderly patients (≥ 60 years old) were compared. The elderly patients were followed up to evaluate their clinical outcomes and satisfaction degree (worst to best: 0 to10). The patients were divided into the 2010-2014 group and the 2015-2019 group according to the year of admission, and the clinical outcomes of the two groups were compared to verify the stability from mid-term to long-term after surgery for acetabular fracture. RESULTS: A total of 1024 patients (mean age 43.35 years, range 14-86 years) with acetabular fractures received operative treatment in this decade. The mean age of the acetabular fracture patients increased from 41.1 years to 47.7 years, and the proportion of elderly patients increased from 5.7% to 24.0%, with some volatility. The ratio of male to female decreased year by year, and the proportion of female patients increased with age. And the anterior fracture patterns were more common in the elderly patients compared to the young patients (P < 0.001). 118 elderly patients (82 males, 36 females; mean age 66.91 years, range 60-86 years) were followed-up (mean 77.4 months, range 35-152 months). The overall mortality rate of the elderly patients was 7.69% (9/118). The Harris hip score of those alive patients was 90.41 ± 12.91 points (excellent and good rate 84.4%). 87 patients completed the SF-12 with a normal HRQoL (PCS 50.49 ± 8.88 points; MCS 55.66 ± 8.86 points). 90.8% of the patients achieved a satisfaction score of 9 or higher. And there was no significant difference in clinical outcomes between the 2010-2014 group and the 2015-2019 group (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, acetabular fractures presented an obvious ageing trend in China, and the fracture patterns of the elderly patients differed from those in the young patients. Operative treatment for elderly acetabular fractures yielded satisfactory and persistent clinical outcomes from mid-term to long-term clinical.

RESUMO

Photo-cross-linkable hydrogels have recently gained increased interest in the field of biomedical applications. In this study, silk fibroin was derivatized with methacrylic anhydride (MA) to obtain silk fibroin methacryloyl (SFMA), forming hydrogel under UV light exposure in 1 min. The SFMA sol-gel transition did not involve significant structural change at the early stage. Then, the formation of the irreversible ß-sheet was confirmed after 24 h. The resulting SFMA hydrogel showed a homogeneous porous structure with pore sizes ranging from 400 to 700 µm, depending on the content. In addition, these hydrogels demonstrated a lower swelling capacity, higher rheological properties and compressive modulus, and slow degradation behavior at higher content, likely due to the higher degree of cross-linking. An experiment with cells indicated the good cell compatibility of these hydrogels, as revealed by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assays. As a tissue-engineered material, this photo-cross-linkable SFMA is expected to have a wide range of applications in the biomedical field.

RESUMO

Premature ovarian failure (POF) is a female reproductive system disease caused by many factors and systems, which has seriously affected the quality of life of women of childbearing age. Clinically, the disease is difficult to treat while its incidence rate shows an increasing trend. In recent years, natural products used as multi-pathway, multi-target and efficient drugs, have become the focus of many research and clinical studies in China and abroad, and the effect of phytochemicals derived from edible plants and Chinese medicine herbs on POF were investigated in several papers. Using "premature ovarian failure" or "ovary" and related natural products as keywords, we retrieved and reviewed research articles from China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database, Wanfang, PubMed, Web of Science and other literature databases. Up to October, 2021, natural compounds with prophylactic or interference inhibition effects on POF mainly included flavonoids, polysaccharides, saponins, and polyphenols. Their effect on POF and ovarian function was closely related to their antioxidant, antiapoptotic, antiaging, immunoregulatory and estrogen-like activities.

RESUMO

Lead (Pb), as a heavy metal, is used in batteries, ceramics, paint, pipes, certain ceramics, e-waste recycling, etc. Chronic Pb exposure can result in the inflammation of the central nervous system, as well as neurobehavioral changes. Both glial cells and neurons are involved in central nervous injury following Pb exposure. However, significant cellular events and their key regulators following Pb exposure remain to be elucidated. In this study, rats were randomly exposed to 250 or 500 mg/L PbAc for 9 weeks. Hippocampal proteomics was performed using isobaric tags for relative absolute quantification. Bioinformatics analysis was used to identify 301 and 267 differentially expressed proteins-which were involved in biological processes, including glial cell activation, neural nucleus development, and mRNA processing-in the low and high Pb exposure groups, respectively. Gene Set Enrichment Analysis showed that astrocyte activation was identified as a significant cellular event occurring in the low- or high-dose Pb exposure group. Subsequently, in vivo and in vitro models of Pb exposure were established to confirm astrocyte activation. As a result, glial fibrillary acidic protein expression in astrocytes was much higher in the Pb exposure group. Moreover, the mRNA expression of neurotoxic reactive astrocyte genes was much higher than that of the control group. The analysis of transcription factors indicated that NF-κB was screened as the top transcription factor, which might regulate astrocyte activation following Pb exposure in the rat hippocampus. The data also showed that the inhibition of NF-κB transcription suppressed astrocyte activation following Pb exposure. Overall, astrocyte activation was one of the significant cellular events following Pb exposure in the rat hippocampus, which was regulated by the NF-κB transcription factor, suggesting that inhibiting astrocyte activation may be a potential target for the prevention of Pb neurotoxicity.

RESUMO

Stimulator of interferon genes (STING) plays important roles in innate immunology. In this study, we isolated the STING gene in Nile tilapia, termed OnSTING. Using quantitative RT-PCR, we explored the expression patterns of the OnSTING gene. Using dual-luciferase reporter assays, we revealed the effect of STING overexpression on nuclear factor κB (NF-κB), IFN and AP activation in HEK 293 cells. Using coimmunoprecipitation, the interaction of STING and TRIF was studied. The effect of OnSTING overexpression on the antibacterial activity in tilapia was investigated. The results showed that upon stimulation with Streptococcus agalactiae, the OnSTING transcript was upregulated in all the tested tissues. OnSTING mRNA levels were very stable from 2.5 to 8.5 dpf. Moreover, OnSTING, OnIFN and IRF3 expression was induced by LPS, Poly (I:C), S. agalactiae WC1535 and DCPS in Nile tilapia macrophages. Overexpression of OnSTING and OnDDX41 increased NF-κB activation in HEK293T cells and slightly increased IFN-ß activation but had no effect on AP-1 activation. OnSTING interacted with OnDDX41 and OnTBK1. However, OnSTING did not interact with TRIF. OnSTING overexpression in vivo decreased the sensitivity of tilapia to S. agalactiae infection. These results are helpful for clarifying the innate immune response against bacterial infection in Nile tilapia.

RESUMO

Spinal cord injury (SCI) induced catastrophic neurological disability is currently incurable, especially in elderly patients. Due to the limited axon regeneration capacity and hostile microenvironment in the lesion site, essential neural network reconstruction remains challenging. Owing to the blood-spinal cord barrier (BSCB) created immune cells and cytokines isolation, the immune elements were incorrectly recognized as innocent bystanders during the SCI pathological process traditionally. Emerging evidence demonstrated that the central nervous system (CNS) is an "immunological quiescent" rather than "immune privileged" area, and the CNS-associated immune response played mixed roles which dedicate beneficial and detrimental contributions throughout the SCI process. Consequently, coordinating double-edged immunomodulation is vital to promote tissue repair and neurological recovery post-SCI. The comprehensive exploration and understanding of the immune landscape post-SCI are essential in establishing new avenues for further basic and clinical studies. In this context, this review summarizes the recent significant breakthroughs in key aspects of SCI-related immunomodulation, including innate and adaptive immune response, immune organ changes, and holistic immune status modification. Moreover, the currently existing immune-oriented therapies for SCI will be outlined.

RESUMO

Achai is a small size cattle breed, resilient to harsh and cold environment. Cryopreservation of Achai bull semen may help to improve its genetics and preserve the germplasm. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) affects the structural and functional integrity of the spermatozoa. During freezing and thawing processes, the ROS make changes in the spermatozoa quality parameters and reduce total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) of semen that is considered as marker of oxidative stress. This study was designed to determine the effect of glycine along with vitamin E on post-thawed spermatozoa quality and total antioxidant capacity in Achai cattle. The semen collection was done twice a week from four mature fertile Achai cattle bulls (n = 4). The glycine was utilized as 0 mM, 5 mM, 10 mM, 15 mM, and 20 mM along with vitamin E @ 2.3 mM added constantly in each concentration. The control group contained all extenders except glycine. The results revealed that post-thawed spermatozoa motility was found significantly higher (P < 0.05) at 10 mM as compared to 5 mM, 15 mM, and 20 mM. Compared with control group, glycine concentration at 10 mM and other concentrations increased progressive and fast motility (%), curvilinear, straight line, and average path velocity (µm/s). Moreover, beat cross frequency (Hz) was higher (P < 0.05), and post-thaw viability (%), plasma membrane integrity, and mitochondrial membrane potential were significantly higher (P < 0.05) at 10 mM of glycine concentration in comparison to control and other glycine concentrations. Besides, acrosome integrity (%) and DNA integrity (%) as well as post-thawed T-AOC were also significantly higher (P < 0.05) at 10 mM of glycine concentration as compared to other glycine concentrations and control group. It is concluded that 10 mM of glycine along with vitamin E @ 2.3 mM improved cryopreserved semen quality of Achai bull.

RESUMO

Fungi are dominant ecological participants in the forest ecosystems, which play a major role in recycling organic matter and channeling nutrients across trophic levels. Fungal populations are shaped by plant communities and environmental parameters, and in turn, fungal communities also impact the forest ecosystem through intrinsic participation of different fungal guilds. Mycorrhizal fungi result in conservation and stability of forest ecosystem, while pathogenic fungi can bring change in forest ecosystem, by replacing the dominant plant species with new or exotic plant species. Saprotrophic fungi, being ecological regulators in the forest ecosystem, convert dead tree logs into reusable constituents and complete the ecological cycles of nitrogen and carbon. However, fungal communities have not been studied in-depth with respect to functional, spatiotemporal, or environmental parameters. Previously, fungal diversity and its role in shaping the forest ecosystem were studied by traditional and laborious cultural methods, which were unable to achieve real-time results and draw a conclusive picture of fungal communities. This review highlights the latest advances in biological methods such as next-generation sequencing and meta'omics for observing fungal diversity in the forest ecosystem, the role of different fungal groups in shaping forest ecosystem, forest productivity, and nutrient cycling at global scales.

RESUMO

Objective: The purpose of this study was to predict the invasiveness of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) via ultrasonography in combination with the Wnt family member 10A (WNT10A) gene to provide a reference basis for evaluating the invasive capability of PTMC. Methods: Cancer tissue were collected from 182 patients with unifocal PTMC, and the patients were divided into the invasive group and the non-invasive group based on whether the lesions invaded the thyroid capsules or whether lymph node metastasis occurred. The expression of WNT10A protein was examined. Age, sex, maximum nodule diameter, color Doppler flow imaging (CDFI), nodule echo, microcalcification, aspect ratio, morphology (boundary), nodule location, internal structure, ultrasound-suspected lymph node metastasis (US-LNM), and WNT10A expression were compared between the invasive group and the non-invasive group. Univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis were performed, and a p value of less than 0.05 indicated that the difference was statistically significant. Results: (1) 36 patients in the non-invasive group showed high expression and 66 patients showed low or no expression, while 54 patients in the invasive group showed high expression and 26 patients showed low or no expression, suggesting that the expression level of WNT10A was higher in the invasive group than in the non-invasive group, with a statistically significant difference between the two groups (P<0.01). (2) Univariate analysis showed that there were statistically significant differences between the invasive PTMC group and the non-invasive group in age, sex, maximum nodule diameter, microcalcification, US-LNM and high WNT10A expression. (3) Multivariate analysis showed that the risk factors for invasiveness in patients with PTMC included age < 45 years, maximum nodule diameter > 7 mm, microcalcification, US-LNM and high WNT10A expression. Conclusion: The risk factors for PTMC invasiveness included age < 45 years, maximum nodule diameter >7 mm, microcalcification, US-LNM and high WNT10A expression. A combination of ultrasonography and WNT10A gene analysis could provide a reference basis for evaluating the invasive capability of PTMC.

RESUMO

Comorbidity of primary lung cancer and heart valve disease, both requiring surgical therapy, characterizes a high-risk group of patients necessitating prompt diagnosis and treatment. Recently, the rate of minimal invasive approach for patients who were not indicated for conventional thoracotomy surgery due to their high-risk status with the procedure has increased as treatment for heart valve disease. We herein report four patients of lung cancer resection with simultaneous valve procedure though thoracoscopic technique [Bablekos 2016].

RESUMO

Elemental mercury (Hg0) removal from a hot gas is still challenging since high temperature influences the Hg0 removal and regenerable performance of the sorbent. In this work, a facile yet innovative sonochemical method was developed to synthesize a thermally stable magnetic tea biochar to capture the Hg0 from syngas. A sonochemically synthesized magnetic sorbent (TUF0.46) exhibited a more prodigious surface area with developed pore structures, ultra-paramagnetic properties, and high dispersion of Fe3O4/γ-Fe2O3 particles than a simply synthesized magnetic sorbent (TF0.46). The results showed that TUF0.46 demonstrated strong thermostability and attained a high Hg0 removal performance (∼98.6%) at 200 °C. After the 10th adsorption/regeneration cycle, the Hg0 removal efficiency of TUF0.46 was 19% higher than that of TF0.46. Besides, at 23.1% Hg0 breakthrough, TUF0.46 achieved an average Hg0 adsorption capacity of 16.58 mg/g within 24 h under complex syngas (20% CO, 20% H2, 5% H2O, and 400 ppm H2S). In addition, XPS results revealed that surface-active components (Fe+, O2-, O*, C=O) were the key factor for high Hg0 removal performance over TUF0.46 from syngas. Hence, sonochemistry is a promising practical tool for improving the surface morphology, thermal resistance, renewability, and Hg0 removal efficiency of a sorbent.

RESUMO

Integrating global health (GH) training in medical education has become prevalent in the United States over the last two decades. Many medical school graduates participate in some type of international learning experience during their undergraduate/graduate training, with plans to make this a part of their life-long learning experiences. Recognizing this trend, many pediatric national organizations, such as the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Association of Pediatric Program Directors, and the American Board of Pediatrics, have developed initiatives integrating GH education into existing curricula. We report our experience with using virtual learning on a cloud-based platform to remain connected with our GH training partners, and utilize this opportunity to further strengthen our existing relationships during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Overall, our experience thus far shows that this is an effective way to maintain communication even when international travel is not possible. It allows for the ongoing exchange of ideas and the development of long-term sustainable relationships. There are many important lessons our trainees can learn from such partnerships.

RESUMO

Xilei Powder is a commonly used prescription for the treatment of oral ulcers, and is originally used to treat scarlet fever. Scarlet fever is a warm-toxin disease from the perspective of the theory of warm disease. It is a warm infectious disease caused by epidemic. Xilei Powder was recorded in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia from 1953 edition to 2010 edition. As China joined Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora(CITES), Xilei Powder was removed from the Chinese Pharmacopoeia of 2015 edition due to the limitation of the use of animal drugs, such as ivory and rhinoceros horn. Xilei Powder has been widely used to treat such diseases as otolaryngology, fever, gynecological diseases, digestive diseases, and tumors. Does Xilei Powder have a unique place in clinical application? Can stable and effective alternative drugs be derived from original prescription? Due to the lack of theoretical studies on Xilei Powder, by consulting ancient books, monographs and papers, we comprehensively summarized and studied historical evolution and prescription connotation of Xilei Powder, and analyzed its drug origin and clinical application, in the hope to promote the theoretical study and clinical application.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Most patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) rely predominantly on medication for disease control. Diet interventions can reduce pharmaceutical expenditures and prolong remission. We designed a prospective study to evaluate whether an immunoglobulin G (IgG)-guided exclusion diet would improve symptoms and quality of life (QoL) in patients with UC. METHODS: The 6-month diet intervention included 97 patients with UC, who were randomly divided into an intervention group (n = 49) and a control (n = 48) group. Individual diet plans were created for the intervention group according to IgG titers; the control group ate a healthy diet as normal. Observational indices included disease activity, extraintestinal manifestations, nutritional status, and QoL. Relationships between food-specific IgG antibodies and these indices were also analyzed. RESULTS: At baseline, there were no significant differences between the groups. Food-specific IgG antibodies were detected in 70.10% of participants. After intervention, the Mayo score was significantly lower in the intervention group than in the control group (2.41 ± 0.89 vs 3.52 ± 1.15, P < 0.05). The number of patients with extraintestinal manifestations decreased from 7 to 2 in the intervention group and from 6 to 5 in the control group. As for nutritive indices, the intervention group had higher mean body mass index and albumin than the control group (23.88 ± 3.31 vs 21.50 ± 6.24 kg/m2, respectively, P < 0.05; 48.05 ± 6.39 vs 45.72 ± 5.48 g/L, respectively, P < 0.05), whereas prealbumin and transferrin were not significantly different between the groups. QoL improved after food exclusion (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: An IgG-guided exclusion diet ameliorated UC symptoms and improved QoL. Interactions between IgG-based food intolerance and UC warrant further study.

RESUMO

Texture characterization is a key problem in image understanding and pattern recognition. In this paper, we present a flexible shape-based texture representation using shape co-occurrence patterns. More precisely, texture images are first represented by a tree of shapes, each of which is associated with several geometrical and radiometric attributes. Then, four typical kinds of shape co-occurrence patterns based on the hierarchical relationships among the shapes in the tree are learned as codewords. Three different coding methods are investigated for learning the codewords, which can be used to encode any given texture image into a descriptive vector. In contrast with existing works, the proposed approach not only inherits the shape-based method's strong ability to capture geometrical aspects of textures and high robustness to variations in imaging conditions but also provides a flexible way to consider shape relationships and to compute high-order statistics on the tree. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that co-occurrence patterns of explicit shapes have been used as a tool for texture analysis. Experiments on various texture and scene data sets demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed approach.
