RESUMO

The influence of cooling history for the Zn3Ga2Ge2O10/Cr3+ phosphors prepared by solid state reaction on the spectral properties was discovered, and an anticounterfeiting scheme based on the identification with smartphone was proposed and experimentally demonstrated using the studied phosphors. A combination of color-tunable visible fluorescence emission and near-infrared (NIR) afterglow emission in Zn3Ga2Ge2O10/x mol % Cr3+(x = 0, 0.05, 1, 2, 3, and 4) phosphors to achieve multimode anticounterfeiting was reported. It is found that with the increasing Cr3+ concentrations, the visible emission can be tuned from green, light pink, and light red to deep red under 254 nm ultraviolet (UV) excitation. This phenomenon is related to the formation of oxygen vacancies in the host during the process of natural cooling and the characteristic emission of Cr3+. In addition, the persistent time of the Cr3+ emission centered at 700 nm can be also tuned by various Cr3+ concentrations. A possible mechanism was deduced to explain the afterglow phenomenon. Lastly, a flower pattern applied in anticounterfeiting was fabricated using the Zn3Ga2Ge2O10/x mol % Cr3+ (x = 0, 0.05, 1, 2, 3, and 4) phosphors to present tunable color and NIR afterglow signals at different excitation modes, and the camera of smartphone was chosen as a detection tool to take the NIR images. The results obtained above suggest that the prepared phosphors at natural cooling condition have great potential in affording advanced optical anticounterfeiting.

Objectives: We hope to offer a comprehensive understanding of the advancements and patterns in research on PND. Methods: We performed a thorough search on the Web of Science Core Collection to locate relevant studies published from 1969 to 2022 and utilized four distinct tools, namely VOSviewer (J Data Inf Sci, 2017, 2, 1; J Am Soc Inf Sci, 1973, 24, 265; Amer Doc, 1963, 14, 10 and Scientometrics, 2010, 82, 581), CiteSpace (Scientometrics, 2010, 84, 523), Scimago Graphica, and R-bibliometrix which allowed us to examine various aspects. Results: We included a total of 6787 articles and reviews for analysis which described PND research, the sources, and the subfields; highlighted the significant developments in this field; identified three main directions in PND.Conclusion: This study highlights the rapid growth of research on PND in recent years and provided an overview of previous studies in the field of PND, thereby establishing the overall landscape of PND research and identifying potential avenues for future investigations. These tools allowed us to examine various aspects, including the yearly publication output, the contribution of different countries or regions, the involvement of active journals, co-citation analysis, publication status, keywords, and terms, as well as scientific categories. We hope to offer a comprehensive understanding of the advancements and patterns in research on PND. The insights gained from this study can assist researchers and clinicians in enhancing the management and implementation of their work in this field. Results: In this study, we included a total of 6787 articles and reviews for analysis. First, publication trends and contribution by country analysis described PND research. Second, a historical analysis described PND research, the sources, and the subfields. Third, an analysis of keywords highlighted the significant developments in this field. Fourth, an analysis of research themes identified three main directions in PND. Conclusion: In summary, the research volume exhibits exponential growth over time. Furthermore, the majority of contributions originate from Western countries and China. The interdisciplinary nature of the field is evident, with its roots in biology and medicine and further branching into psychology and social sciences. POCD, delirium-predominant associated clinical management were major research themes about PND.

BACKGROUND: Aberrant activation of autophagy in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) has led researchers to investigate potential therapeutic strategies targeting this process. The regulation of autophagy is significantly influenced by METTL3. Our previous research has shown that the Panax ginseng-derived compound, 20(R)-panaxatriol (PT), has potential as an anti-tumor agent. However, it remains unclear whether PT can modulate autophagy through METTL3 to exert its anti-tumor effects. OBJECTIVE: Our objective is to investigate whether PT can regulate autophagy in TNBC cells and elucidate the molecular mechanisms. STUDY DESIGN: For in vitro experiments, we employed SUM-159-PT and MDA-MB-231 cells. While in vivo experiments involved BALB/c nude mice and NOD/SCID mice. METHODS: In vitro, TNBC cells were treated with PT, and cell lines with varying expression levels of METTL3 were established. We assessed the impact on tumor cell activity and autophagy by analyzing autophagic flux, Western Blot (WB), and methylation levels. In vivo, subcutaneous transplantation models were established in BALB/c nude and NOD/SCID mice to observe the effect of PT on TNBC growth. HE staining and immunofluorescence were employed to analyze histopathological changes in tumor tissues. MeRIP-seq and dual-luciferase reporter gene assays were used to identify key downstream targets. Additionally, the silencing of STIP1 Homology And U-Box Containing Protein 1 (STUB1) explored PT's effects. The mechanism of PT's action on STUB1 via METTL3 was elucidated through mRNA stability assays, mRNA alternative splicing analysis, and nuclear-cytoplasmic mRNA separation. RESULTS: In both in vivo and in vitro experiments, it was discovered that PT significantly upregulates the expression of METTL3, leading to autophagy inhibition and therapeutic effects in TNBC. Simultaneously, through MeRIP-seq analysis and dual-luciferase reporter gene assays, we have demonstrated that PT modulates STUB1 via METTL3, influencing autophagy in TNBC cells. Furthermore, intriguingly, PT extends the half-life of STUB1 mRNA by enhancing its methylation modification, thereby enhancing its stability. CONCLUSION: In summary, our research reveals that PT increases STUB1 m6A modification through a METTL3-mediated mechanism in TNBC cells, inhibiting autophagy and further accentuating its anti-tumor properties. Our study provides novel mechanistic insights into TNBC pathogenesis and potential drug targets for TNBC.

A series of Tb3+-doped Sr2YTaO6 double perovskite phosphors (SYT:Tb3+) were synthesized using a conventional solid-state reaction method. A strong green emission was observed in the SYT:Tb3+ phosphors, and the optimal doping concentration of Tb3+ was confirmed to be 5 mol%. The electric dipole-dipole interaction was ascribed to be the main mechanism for the luminescence concentration quenching. Analysis of the concentration-dependent fluorescence decay confirmed that the self-generated quenching model holds for the dynamic process of Tb3+ decays in SYT. Furthermore, the internal quantum efficiencies, non-radiative transition rates, and energy transfer rates of the 5D4 level for the SYT:Tb3+ samples were estimated, respectively. The luminescence thermal stability of the sample was also evaluated based on the Arrhenius model. The chromaticity shift of the SYT:5 mol% Tb3+ phosphor was examined to be 0.013 when the sample temperature was increased from 303 to 483 K, thus indicating excellent chromaticity shifting resistance under high temperature conditions. Moreover, the Judd-Ofelt parameters were calculated from the emission spectra of SYT:Tb3+ to be Ω2 = 0.29 × 10-20, Ω4 = 0.45 × 10-20, and Ω6 = 0.72 × 10-20 cm2, respectively. The fluorescence branching ratios and radiative transition rates for the 5D4 level were calculated based on the obtained Judd-Ofelt parameters. Finally, a white light-emitting diode (LED) prototype was assembled using a 310 nm LED chip combined with a prepared green SYT:Tb3+ phosphor and two other commercial blue and red phosphors. The obtained warm white light exhibits good chromaticity coordinates (0.32, 0.32) and a high color rendering index of 96.1. Based on the above results, it can be known that the prepared SYT:Tb3+ phosphors have a potential application as green emitting phosphors in white LEDs.

Raising photoelectric conversion efficiency and enhancing heat management are two critical concerns for silicon-based solar cells. In this work, efficient Yb3+ infrared emissions from both quantum cutting and upconversion were demonstrated by adjusting Er3+ and Yb3+ concentrations, and thermo-manage-applicable temperature sensing based on the luminescence intensity ratio of two super-low thermal quenching levels was discovered in an Er3+/Yb3+ co-doped tungstate system. The quantum cutting mechanism was clearly decrypted as a two-step energy transfer process from Er3+ to Yb3+. The two-step energy transfer efficiencies, the radiative and nonradiative transition rates of all interested 4 f levels of Er3+ in NaY(WO4)2 were confirmed in the framework of Föster-Dexter theory, Judd-Ofelt theory, and energy gap law, and based on these obtained efficiencies and rates the quantum cutting efficiency was furthermore determined to be as high as 173% in NaY(WO4)2: 5 mol% Er3+/50 mol% Yb3+ sample. Strong and nearly pure infrared upconversion emission of Yb3+ under 1550 nm excitation was achieved in Er3+/Yb3+ co-doped NaY(WO4)2 by adjusting Yb3+ doping concentrations. The Yb3+ induced infrared upconversion emission enhancement was attributed to the efficient energy transfer 4I11/2 (Er3+) + 2F7/2 (Yb3+) → 4I15/2 (Er3+) + 2F5/2 (Yb3+) and large nonradiative relaxation rate of 4I9/2. Analysis on the temperature sensing indicated that the NaY(WO4)2:Er3+/Yb3+ serves well the solar cells as thermos-managing material. Moreover, it was confirmed that the fluorescence thermal quenching of 2H11/2/4S3/2 was caused by the nonradiative relaxation of 4S3/2. All the obtained results suggest that NaY(WO4)2:Er3+/Yb3+ is an excellent material for silicon-based solar cells to improve photoelectric conversion efficiency and thermal management.

Anti-counterfeiting labels based on luminescence materials are a newly emerging technique for protecting legal goods and intellectual property. In the anti-counterfeiting field to prevent forgery and cloning, luminescence materials with properties different from the commercialized and traditional ones are in urgent need. In this work, multicolor-emitting Er3+ single-doped and Er3+/Yb3+ co-doped Zn2GeO4 phosphors combining static and dynamic identifications were developed in order to achieve advanced anti-counterfeiting application. The variation of trap content with increasing the doping content of rare earth ions was analyzed through X - ray photoelectron spectroscopy, thermoluminescence analysis. It was found that there are two types of traps with different depth in Zn2GeO4 phosphors. The depths of the traps were experimentally confirmed to be 0.68 and 0.79 eV, respectively. The transient photocurrent response measurement confirmed the existence of charge carriers, and the mechanism for long persistent luminescence was deduced. The multicolor upconversion mechanisms under 980 and 1550 nm excitation were also discovered. Based on the multicolor steady and transient emission features, an anti-counterfeiting pattern was designed using the phosphors. Static and dynamic identification was demonstrated and presented in detail. Finally, it is indicated that the studied phosphors are excellent candidates for potential applications in luminescence anti-counterfeiting labels.

Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) is a type of liver cancer which is characterized by inflammation-associated tumor. The unique characteristics of tumor immune microenvironment in HCC contribute to hepatocarcinogenesis. It was also clarified that aberrant fatty acid metabolism (FAM) might accelerate tumor growth and metastasis of HCC. In this study, we aimed to identify fatty acid metabolism-related clusters and establish a novel prognostic risk model in HCC. Gene expression and corresponding clinical data were searched from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) portal. From the TCGA database, by unsupervised clustering method, we determined three FAM clusters and two gene clusters with distinct clinicopathological and immune characteristics. Based on 79 prognostic genes identified from 190 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) among three FAM clusters, five prognostic DEGs (CCDC112, TRNP1, CFL1, CYB5D2, and SLC22A1) were determined to construct risk model by least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and multivariate cox regression analysis. Furthermore, the ICGC dataset was used to validate the model. In conclusion, the prognostic risk model constructed in this study exhibited excellent indicator performance of overall survival, clinical feature, and immune cell infiltration, which has the potential to be an effective biomarker for HCC immunotherapy.

Glioma is one of the most aggressive malignant diseases for human health. It is difficult to resect completely due to their invasiveness. The targeted delivery, as a noninvasive approach, is a major strategy for the development of treatments for brain tumors. Lactoferrin (Lf) receptors are over-expressed in both brain endothelial cells and glioma cells. Macromolecular Lf modified nanoparticles have been shown to enhance the brain targeting. Muscone is a "guide" drug that have been demonstrated to promote liposomes into the brain by modification. To further enhance the brain-targeting efficacy of Lf modified carriers, we designed that Lf and muscone dual-modified liposomes cross blood-brain barrier (BBB) and target to brain for enhanced docetaxel (DTX) brain delivery. The results showed that we successfully prepared Lf and muscone dual-modified liposomes (Lf-LP-Mu-DTX), the number of Lf molecules connected to the surface of per liposome was 28. Lf-LP-Mu-DTX increased uptake in both U87-MG cells and hCMEC/D3 cells, enhanced penetration of U87-MG tumor spheroid and in vitro BBB model, had better in vitro and in vivo anti-tumor effects. In conclusion, "guide" of muscone modification enhanced brain-targeting efficacy of Lf modified liposomes, Lf and muscone dual-modified docetaxel loaded liposomes present a potential brain-targeting drug delivery system for use in the future treatment of gliomas.

We propose neural global illumination, a novel method for fast rendering full global illumination in static scenes with dynamic viewpoint and area lighting. The key idea of our method is to utilize a deep rendering network to model the complex mapping from each shading point to global illumination. To efficiently learn the mapping, we propose a neural-network-friendly input representation including attributes of each shading point, viewpoint information, and a combinational lighting representation that enables high-quality fitting with a compact neural network. To synthesize high-frequency global illumination effects, we transform the low-dimension input to higher-dimension space by positional encoding and model the rendering network as a deep fully-connected network. Besides, we feed a screen-space neural buffer to our rendering network to share global information between objects in the screen-space to each shading point. We have demonstrated our neural global illumination method in rendering a wide variety of scenes exhibiting complex and all-frequency global illumination effects such as multiple-bounce glossy interreflection, color bleeding, and caustics.

BACKGROUND: Congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tracts (CAKUT) are the leading cause of kidney failure in children with phenotypic and genotypic heterogeneity. Our objective was to describe the genetic spectrum and identify the risk factors for kidney failure in children with CAKUT. METHODS: Clinical and genetic data were derived from a multicenter network (Chinese Children Genetic Kidney Disease Database, CCGKDD) and the Chigene database. A total of 925 children with CAKUT who underwent genetic testing from 2014 to 2020 across China were studied. Data for a total of 584 children wereobtained from the CCGKDD, including longitudinal data regarding kidney function. The risk factors for kidney failure were determined by the Kaplan-Meier method and Cox proportional hazards models. RESULTS: A genetic diagnosis was established in 96 out of 925 (10.3%) children, including 72 (8%) with monogenic variants, 20 (2%) with copy number variants (CNVs), and 4 (0.4%)with major chromosomal anomalies. Patients with skeletal abnormalities were more likely to have large CNVs or abnormal karyotypes than monogenic variants. Eighty-two patients from the CCGKDD progressed to kidney failure at a median age of 13.0 (95% confidence interval, 12.4-13.6) years, and twenty-four were genetically diagnosed with variants of PAX2, TNXB, EYA1, HNF1B and GATA3 or the 48, XXYY karyotype. The multivariate analysis indicated that solitary kidney, posterior urethral valves, bilateral hypodysplasia, the presence of certain variants and premature birth were independent prognostic factors. CONCLUSIONS: The genetic spectrum of CAKUT varies among different subphenotypes. The identified factors indicate areas that require special attention.

Purpose: This study explores the relationship between physical exercise and older people's subjective well-being and the mediating role of a sense of meaning in life and self-esteem by using a structural equation modeling (SEM) approach, in order to provide some suggestions for improving older people's subjective well-being. Methods: In this study, a cross-sectional survey was conducted offline using a simple random method of collection, and the Physical Activity Rating Scale (PARS-3), the Subjective Well-being Scale (SWB), the Meaningfulness of Life Scale (MLQ), and the Self-Esteem Scale (SES) were applied to 419 older adults who participated in physical exercise from Chengdu (Qingyang District, Wuhou District, and Chenghua District), Sichuan Province, China, with the voluntary participation of the subjects. 197 males and 222 females, with a mean age of 72.49 (SD = 1.57). The study used SPSS 25.0 and Process 3.5 plug-in for statistical processing of the data, Cronbach's alpha coefficient for intra-variate consistency testing, Harman's one-way test for common method bias testing and multiple covariance diagnosis, and finally regression analysis and Bootstrap sampling test for significance of mediating effects. Results: Physical exercise was able to have a positive effect on the level of subjective well-being of older adults (ß = 0.0305; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.0226, 0.0384; p < 0.05), and a mediation analysis of sense of meaning in life and self-esteem revealed that they were able to have independent and chained mediation effects, with four pathways: first, physical exercise directly affected subjective well-being of older adults (ß = 0.0149; 95% CI: 0.0072, 0.0226; p < 0.05; ß = 0.0149; 95% CI: 0.0072, 0.0226; p < 0.05); secondly, sense of meaning in life mediated the relationship between physical exercise and subjective well-being of older adults (ß = 0.0075; 95% CI: 0.0041, 0.0115; p < 0.05); thirdly, self-esteem mediated the relationship between physical exercise and subjective well-being of older adults (ß = 0.0075; 95% CI: 0.0041, 0.0115; p < 0.05). (ß = 0.0061; 95% CI: 0.0034, 0.0094; p < 0.05); fourth, a chain mediating effect of sense of meaning in life and self-esteem in the relationship between physical exercise and subjective well-being in older adults (ß = 0.0021; 95% CI: 0.0010, 0.0035; p < 0.05). Conclusion and prospects: As indicated by the results, physical exercise can enhance the subjective well-being of older adults through sense of meaning in life and self-esteem, therefore, in order to be able to enhance the subjective well-being of older adults, enhancing the level of sense of meaning in life and self-esteem of older adults is an effective means.

BACKGROUND: Progesterone is widely used to improve the adverse pregnancy outcomes related to vaginal bleeding during early pregnancy. However, the evidence of its effectiveness is equivocal. METHODS: Six thousand six hundred fifteen mother-infant pairs from Tongji Maternal and Child Health Cohort (TMCHC) were involved in the study. Information on vaginal bleeding, progesterone administration in early pregnancy were obtained at enrolment. Birth outcomes were obtained from the hospital notes. Body weight of the infants at 12 months of age was collected by telephone interview. Multivariable logistic regression was conducted to estimate the effect of vaginal bleeding and progesterone administration in early pregnancy on birth outcomes and weight status of infants at 12 months of age. RESULTS: 21.4% (1418/6615) participants experienced bleeding in early pregnancy, and 47.5% (674/1418) of them were treated with progesterone. There were no significant associations between progesterone supplementation in early pregnancy and offspring outcomes. Compared to women without bleeding or any therapy, women with bleeding and progesterone therapy experienced increased risk of preterm (OR 1.74, 95% CI 1.21-2.52), and delivering a small-for-gestational-age (SGA) (OR 1.46, 95% CI 1.07-1.98) or low birth weight (LBW) (OR 2.10, 95% CI 1.25-3.51) neonate, and offspring of them had an increased risk of weight for age z-score (WAZ) < -1 at 12 months of age (OR 1.79, 95%CI 1.01-3.19). CONCLUSIONS: Offspring of mothers with bleeding and progesterone therapy were more likely to be a premature, SGA or LBW neonate, and had lower weight at 12 months of age. Progesterone supplementation may have no beneficial effect on improving adverse offspring outcomes related to early vaginal bleeding. TRIAL REGISTRATION: TMCHC was registered at clinicaltrials.gov as NCT03099837 on 4 April 2017.

Broadband tunable solid-state lasers continue to present challenges to scientists today. The gain medium is significant for realizing broadband tunable solid-state lasers. In this investigation, the optical gain performance for Tm3+ and Cu+ single-doped and co-doped germanate glasses with broadband emissions was studied via an amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) technique. It was found that the net optical gain coefficients (NOGCs) of Tm3+ single-doped glass were larger than those for Cu+ single-doped glass. When Tm3+ was introduced, the emission broadband width of Cu+-doped glass was effectively extended. Moreover, it was found that for the co-doped glass the NOGCs at the wavelengths for Tm3+ and Cu+ emissions were larger than those of Tm3+ and Cu+ single-doped glasses at the same wavelengths. In addition, the NOGC values of Tm3+ and Cu+ co-doped germanate glasses were of the same order of magnitude, and were maintained in a stable range at different wavelengths. These results indicate that the Tm3+ and Cu+ co-doped glasses studied may be a good candidate medium for broadband tunable solid-state lasers.

BACKGROUND: The evidence on the relationship between diet diversity in early life and allergic outcomes was few and inconsistent. We sought to determine the association of food diversity in the first year of life with allergic outcomes in the second year. METHODS: Two thousand two hundred fifty-one mother-infant pairs from Tongji Maternal and Child Health Cohort (TMCHC) were involved in the study. Information on complementary foods introduction was obtained by telephone interview at 6- and 12-month postpartum follow-up. Any doctor-diagnosed allergic diseases in the second year were recorded at 2-year postpartum follow-up. Food allergies in infancy were assessed and self-reported by mothers at each postpartum follow-up. Multivariable logistic regression was used to examine the effect of food diversity at 6 and 12 months of age on later allergic diseases and food allergy. RESULTS: A total of 135 (6.0%) infants reported allergic diseases at between 1 and 2 years of age. Independent of food allergy history of infants and other potential confounders, less food diversity at 6 months of age was associated with increased risk of later allergic diseases (OR 2.17, 95% CI 1.04-4.50 for 0 vs. 3-6 food groups). By 12 months of age, significant inverse associations with later allergic diseases (OR 2.35, 95% CI 1.03-5.32 for 1-5 vs. 8-11 food groups, and OR 1.98, 95% CI 1.16-3.37 for 6-7 vs. 8-11 food groups) and food allergy (OR 2.10, 95% CI 1.29-3.42 for 1-5 vs. 8-11 food groups) were observed. Children with higher food diversity in both periods had the lowest risk of allergic diseases during the second year of life. CONCLUSIONS: A more diverse diet within the first year of life was associated with reduced risk of allergic diseases at 1-2 years of age. Introducing higher diversity of foods from 6 to 12 months of age might be an effective strategy to improve the allergy outcomes of infants in later life.

The integrin αvß3 receptor and Lactoferrin receptor (LfR) are over-expressed in both cerebral microvascular endothelial cells and glioma cells. RGD tripeptide and Lf can specifically bind with integrin αvß3 receptor and LfR, respectively. In our study, RGD and Lf dual-modified liposomes loaded with docetaxel (DTX) were designed to enhance the brain targeting effect and treatment of glioma. Our in vitro studies have shown that RGD-Lf-LP can significantly enhance the cellular uptake of U87 MG cells and human cerebral microvascular endothelial cells (hCMEC/D3) when compared to RGD modified liposomes (RGD-LP) and Lf modified liposomes (Lf-LP). Free RGD and Lf competitively reduced the cellular uptake of RGD-Lf-LP, in particular, free RGD played a main inhibitory effect on cellular uptake of RGD-Lf-LP in U87 MG cells, yet free Lf played a main inhibitory effect on cellular uptake of RGD-Lf-LP in hCMEC/D3 cells. RGD-Lf-LP can also significantly increase penetration of U87 MG tumor spheroids, and RGD modification plays a dominating role on promoting the penetration of U87 MG tumor spheroids. The results of in vitro BBB model were shown that RGD-Lf-LP-C6 obviously increased the transport of hCMEC/D3 cell monolayers, and Lf modification plays a dominating role on increasing the transport of hCMEC/D3 cell monolayers. In vivo imaging proved that RGD-Lf-LP shows stronger targeting effects for brain orthotopic gliomas than that of RGD-LP and Lf-LP. The result of tissue distribution confirmed that RGD-LF-LP-DTX could significantly increase brain targeting after intravenous injection. Furthermore, RGD-LF-LP-DTX (a dose of 5 mg kg-1 DTX) could significantly prolong the survival time of orthotopic glioma-bearing mice. In summary, RGD and LF dual modification are good combination for brain targeting delivery, RGD-Lf-LP-DTX could enhance brain targeting effects, and is thus a promising chemotherapeutic drug delivery system for treatment of glioma.

The high overall plant-based diet index (PDI) is considered to protect against type 2 diabetes in the general population. However, whether the PDI affects gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) risk among pregnant women is still unclear. We evaluated the association between PDI and GDM risk based on a Chinese large prospective cohort - the Tongji Maternal and Child Health Cohort. Dietary data were collected at 13-28 weeks of pregnancy by a validated semi-quantitative FFQ. The PDI was obtained by assigning plant food groups positive scores while assigning animal food groups reverse scores. GDM was diagnosed by a 75 g 2-h oral glucose tolerance test at 24-28 weeks of gestation. Logistic regression models were fitted to estimate OR of GDM, with associated 95 % CI, comparing women in different PDI quartiles. Among the total 2099 participants, 169 (8·1 %) were diagnosed with GDM. The PDI ranged from 21·0 to 52·0 with a median of 36·0 (interquartile range (IQR) 33·0-39·0). After adjusting for social-demographic characteristics and lifestyle factors etc., the participants with the highest quartile of PDI were associated with 57 % reduced odds of GDM compared with women in the lowest quartile of PDI (adjusted OR 0·43; 95 % CI 0·24, 0·77; Pfor trend = 0·005). An IQR increment in PDI was associated with 29 % decreased odds of GDM (adjusted OR 0·71; 95 % CI 0·56, 0·90). Findings suggest that adopting a plant-based diet during pregnancy could reduce GDM risk among Chinese women, which may be valuable for dietary counselling during pregnancy.

Usually, the optical transition properties of trivalent rare earth (RE) ions in transparent hosts can be quantitatively investigated in the framework of Judd-Ofelt theory. A standard and commonly accepted calculation procedure based on the absorption spectrum has already been established. However, it is hard to assess the optical transition properties of trivalent RE ions doped in powdered and film materials owing to the difficulty in the absolute absorption spectrum measurements. In this work, we proposed a new route to calculate the Judd-Ofelt parameters of trivalent RE ion-doped materials in any morphological and shaped forms. In this method, the fluorescence decay values bridging the radiative transition rates and the Judd-Ofelt parameters were used. As an application example of the proposed Judd-Ofelt calculation method, the Judd-Ofelt parameters of Er3+ in NaYF4 were calculated via the proposed route, and it was found that the obtained results are in reasonable accordance with those derived from other routes. It was also proved that this proposed Judd-Ofelt calculation method is a practicable and effective route for evaluating optical transition properties of trivalent RE ions in non-transparent hosts as long as the fluorescence decay values can be measured.

Current results regarding the effect of folic acid (FA) supplement use on gestational hypertension (GH) and preeclampsia are limited and inconsistent. We aimed to investigate whether FA supplement use was associated with GH and preeclampsia. Participants from the Tongji Maternal and Child Health Cohort with information on periconceptional FA supplement use and diagnosis of GH/preeclampsia were included (n=4853). Robust Poisson regression was used to assess the association of FA supplement use and GH and preeclampsia. Among the 4853 participants in this study, 1161 (23.9%) and 161 (3.3%) women were diagnosed with GH and preeclampsia, respectively. The risk ratio of developing GH was higher in women who used ≥800 µg/d FA supplement from prepregnancy through midpregnancy than nonusers (risk ratio, 1.33 [1.08-1.65]). After adjusting for social-demographic, reproductive, lifestyle factors, family history of hypertension, other supplement use, and gestational weight gain, the adverse association remained significant (risk ratio, 1.32 [1.06-1.64]). Restricting the analysis among women with normal weight, without family history of hypertension, and without gestational diabetes mellitus, the positive FA-GH association still existed. We did not find any significant association between FA supplement use and preeclampsia regardless of adjustment. High-dose (≥800 µg/d) FA supplement use from prepregnancy through midpregnancy was associated with increased risk of GH. Attention should be given to avoid the potential risk of GH due to inappropriate FA supplement use in women who are planning or capable of pregnancy.

Vitamin D deficiency has been reported to be associated with respiratory tract infection (RTI). However, evidence regarding the effects of vitamin D supplementation on susceptibility of infants to RTI is limited. In this prospective birth cohort study, we examined whether vitamin D supplementation reduced RTI risk in 2,244 infants completing the follow-up from birth to 6 months of age. The outcome endpoint was the first episode of paediatrician-diagnosed RTI or 6 months of age when no RTI event occurred. Infants receiving vitamin D supplements at a daily dose of 400-600 IU from birth to the outcome endpoint were defined as vitamin D supplementation and divided into four groups according to the average frequency of supplementation: 0, 1-2, 3-4, and 5-7 days/week. We evaluated the relationship between vitamin D supplementation and time to the first episode of RTI with Kaplan-Meier plots. The associations of vitamin D supplementation with infant RTI, lower RTI (LRTI), and RTI-related hospitalization were assessed using modified Poisson regression. The median time to first RTI episode was 60 days after birth (95% CI [60, 90]) for infants without supplementation and longer than 6 months of age for infants with supplementation (p < .001). We observed inverse trends between supplementation frequency and risk of RTI, LRTI, and RTI-related hospitalization (p for trend < .001), with the risk ratios in the 5-7 days/week supplementation group of 0.46 (95% CI [0.41, 0.50]), 0.17 (95% CI [0.13, 0.24]), and 0.18 (95% CI [0.12, 0.27]), respectively. These associations were significant and consistent in a subgroup analysis stratified by infant feeding.
