RESUMO

A novel Gram-positive, facultatively anaerobic, rod-shaped, nonspore forming, nonmotile organism was isolated from a Japanese serow oral cavity. Designated strain MAS-1T , it is most closely related to Actinomyces bowdenii DSM 15435T , with which it shares 98.07% sequence homology in the 16S ribosomal RNA gene. The primarily detected cellular fatty acids in strain MAS-1T were C16:0 and C18:1 w9c. The predominant respiratory quinone was MK-9 (H4 ). The major polar lipids were phosphatidylcholines, phosphatidylinositols, and glycophospholipids. The genomic DNA GC content of the isolate was 71.3 mol%. The digital DNA-DNA hybridization and average nucleotide identity values between MAS-1T and its related species were 23.5%-39.5% and 82.11%-91.01%, respectively, which were below the threshold (70% and 95%, respectively) for species delineation, indicating that strain MAS-1T represents a novel species. Strain MAS-1T can be differentiated from A. bowdenii by their reactions to naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase, α-galactosidase, ß-galactosidase, and N-acetyl-ß-glucosaminidase, as well as differing acid production from glycogen. Based on the results of genotypic, phenotypic, and biochemical analyses, herein it is proposed that the identified bacteria can be classified as a novel species, Actinomyces capricornis sp. nov., strain MAS-1T (=JCM 34236T = DSM 111732T ).

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Implant component fractures are one of the most serious complications in implant treatment. With a better understanding of the risk factors for fracture in the preoperative, surgery, superstructure, and post-loading phases of implant treatment, low-risk treatment could reduce implant component fractures, leading to a better prognosis. The aim of this study was to clarify the risk factors for abutment and implant fractures that occur after loading, and to perform a retrospective, approximately 10-year follow-up study to explore the risk factors in each treatment phase. METHODS: Subjects were fitted with an implant prosthesis between January 2008 and December 2009. In total, 1,126 Ankylos implants in 430 patients were included for analysis. Binary logistic regression analysis was performed to extract factors related to non-fracture and fracture of the abutment or implant as a dependent variable. RESULTS: Gender (OR = 3.466, 95% CI 1.296-9.268, P = 0.013), gonial angle (OR = 3.420, 95% CI 1.308-8.945, P = 0.012), and splinting status of the superstructure (OR = 4.456, 95% CI 1.861-10.669, P = 0.001) were identified as significant risk factors. CONCLUSION: The risk of fracture is increased in males, especially those with a mandibular angle of less than 120° on panoramic radiographs, and those with a non-splinted superstructure.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the correlation and distribution of dental postgraduate residents, dentists and clinical training facilities in each prefecture to analyze the regional distribution and supply of dentists in Japan. The results were also compared with referential data for medicine. The coefficient of correlation between the dentist index and dental postgraduate resident index was r = 0.76 (P < 0.001) in 2006. The distribution (coefficient of variation) was greatest for the dental postgraduate resident index. The numbers of dentists per 100,000 population in prefectures with dental colleges were significantly higher in 1986, 1996 and 2006 for each comparison (P < 0.001). Coefficients of correlation between dentist index and dental postgraduate resident index were r = 0.65 (P < 0.01) in prefectures with dental colleges and r = 0.11 in those without dental colleges in 2006. The prefectures with high level of numbers of cooperative-type clinical training facilities had dental colleges.
