RESUMO

The transportation sector is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in China. However, real-world GHG emissions from in-use light-duty diesel trucks (LDDTs) are largely uncertain due to data paucity. In this study, we have conducted real driving emission (RDE) tests of real-world CO2, N2O, and CH4 emissions from 12 in-use LDDTs in China. Results reveal that China's CH4 emission rates from LDDTs are overestimated by 57.71 ± 39.15 % if using the previous ratio method of CO2:CH4. Notably, under real-world driving conditions, such as speeds exceeding 60 km/h, maximum exhaust gas temperatures are reached, potentially impacting urea decomposition catalyst temperatures and subsequently influencing N2O production, which is highly sensitive to system temperature. Moreover, uphill roads can increase CO2 emissions by 51.93 % compared to downhill roads. Despite the tightening of vehicle emission standards, CO2 and N2O emissions from the LDDTs have not decreased linearly. However, LDDTs meeting the China VI standard exhibit the lowest average CO2, N2O and CH4 emission factors (EFs) of 335.26 ± 21.72 g/km, 2.7 ± 0.69 mg/km and 3.50 ± 0.70 mg/km, respectively. At last, the uncertainties in the GHG EFs for the tested LDDTs through RDE tests were (-39 %, 82 %) in our study, while a significantly higher uncertainty (-85 %, 182 %) for GHG EFs of LDDTs were found in our study and other reported literature in China, largely due to the application of different non-native vehicle emission factor models and testing methods, as well as different vehicles of control emission standards. Our study highlights more urgent needs for direct RDE tests and the importance of considering real driving conditions, such as road grades, in special geographical regions when undertaking carbon accounting work in the transportation sector.

PURPOSE: Use of artificial intelligence (AI) in cancer care is increasing. What remains unclear is how best to design patient-facing systems that communicate AI output. With oncologist input, we designed an interface that presents patient-specific, machine learning-based 6-month survival prognosis information designed to aid oncology providers in preparing for and discussing prognosis with patients with advanced solid tumors and their caregivers. The primary purpose of this study was to assess patient and caregiver perceptions and identify enhancements of the interface for communicating 6-month survival and other prognosis information when making treatment decisions concerning anticancer and supportive therapy. METHODS: This qualitative study included interviews and focus groups conducted between November and December 2022. Purposive sampling was used to recruit former patients with cancer and/or former caregivers of patients with cancer who had participated in cancer treatment decisions from Utah or elsewhere in the United States. Categories and themes related to perceptions of the interface were identified. RESULTS: We received feedback from 20 participants during eight individual interviews and two focus groups, including four cancer survivors, 13 caregivers, and three representing both. Overall, most participants expressed positive perceptions about the tool and identified its value for supporting decision making, feeling less alone, and supporting communication among oncologists, patients, and their caregivers. Participants identified areas for improvement and implementation considerations, particularly that oncologists should share the tool and guide discussions about prognosis with patients who want to receive the information. CONCLUSION: This study revealed important patient and caregiver perceptions of and enhancements for the proposed interface. Originally designed with input from oncology providers, patient and caregiver participants identified additional interface design recommendations and implementation considerations to support communication about prognosis.

OBJECTIVES: To describe cancer survivors' and care partners' perceived stress and social support during the COVID-19 pandemic and assess the feasibility of audio diaries for assessing role-related needs and resources. METHODS: Participants (N = 51; n = 28 survivors, n = 23 care partners) recorded three monthly audio diaries reporting stress and support experiences. Diaries were transcribed and content-analyzed using a hybrid approach. Stress-related content was inductively coded, and social support content was deductively coded by type (instrumental, information, emotional, companionship, appraisal; κ = 0.75) then inductively coded. Descriptive statistics summarized sociodemographic data and compared coding frequencies by role. We developed narrative summaries of stress and support categories and selected quotes for contextual detail. RESULTS: Cancer-related stressors were most prevalent (28.8%), followed by work (26.8%), family (23.1%), social isolation (13.4%), and finances (8.0%). While no significant difference in reporting frequency was observed between roles, cancer-related stress was more prevalent for survivors while work-related stress was mentioned more by care partners. Emotional support was the most prevalent support type (32.1%), followed by companionship (25.3%), appraisal (17.9%), instrumental (16.67%), and informational support (8%). Survivors reported more appraisal support than care partners (χ2 = 6.48, df = 1, P = .011) and more support for self-care, while care partners expressed more other-oriented concerns and focused more on managing responsibilities and interactions outside the household. CONCLUSIONS: The pandemic complicated and intensified role-based stressors already present in the survivorship context. Our findings highlight the importance of informal social support networks, particularly when access to formal services is limited, and suggest that audio diaries can be an effective tool for assessing support needs and resources. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING PRACTICE: Nurses and healthcare providers should tailor social support assessments to address the distinct support needs and individual resources of cancer survivors and their care partners. This is especially critical in contexts that limit access to care and formal services.

Introduction: Although health systems increasingly integrate social needs screening and referrals into routine care, the effectiveness of these interventions and for whom they work remains unclear. Methods: Patients (N=4,608) seen in the emergency department were screened for social needs (e.g., transportation, housing, food) and offered an opportunity to receive outreach from community service specialists. Results: Among 453 patients with 1 or more social needs who requested assistance, outreach specialists connected with 95 (21.0%). Patients preferred to be contacted through their telephone (n=21, 60.2%), email (n=126, 28.0%), someone else's telephone (n=30, 6.7%), or first by telephone followed by email (n=23, 5.1%). Preferred contact method varied by patient age; endorsement of unmet transportation, housing, and utility needs; receipt of service outreach; and differences in emergency department utilization from the 6 months before the index visit to the 6 months after. Conclusions: Because limited access to a stable telephone or internet connection may prevent patients from connecting with resource referrals, social needs interventions may not benefit the most underserved populations who are at the highest risk of negative health outcomes. Future research should investigate whether communication preferences are an important indicator of needs and how to adapt social needs screening and referral processes so that they are more accessible to populations who may experience more frequent disruptions in methods utilized for digital communication.

Rice leaf folder, Cnaphalocrocis medinalis (Guenée), is one of the most serious pests on rice. At present, chemical control is the main method for controlling this pest. However, the indiscriminate use of chemical insecticides has non-target effects and may cause environmental pollution. Besides, leaf curling behavior by C. medinalis may indirectly reduce the efficacy of chemical spray. Therefore, it is crucial to cultivate efficient rice varieties resistant to this pest. Previous studies have found that three different rice varieties, Zhongzao39 (ZZ39), Xiushui134 (XS134), and Yongyou1540 (YY1540), had varying degrees of infestation by C. medinalis. However, it is currently unclear whether the reason for this difference is related to the difference in defense ability of the three rice varieties against the infestation of C. medinalis. To explore this issue, the current study investigated the effects of three rice varieties on the growth performance and food utilization capability of the 4th instar C. medinalis. Further, it elucidated the differences in defense responses among different rice varieties based on the differences in leaf physiological and biochemical indicators and their impact on population occurrence. The results showed that the larval survival rate was the lowest, and the development period was significantly prolonged after feeding on YY1540. This was not related to the differences in leaf wax, pigments, and nutritional components among the three rice varieties nor to the feeding preferences of the larvae. The rate of superoxide anion production, hydrogen peroxide content, and the activity of three protective enzymes were negatively correlated with larval survival rate, and they all showed the highest in YY1540 leaves. Compared to other tested varieties, although the larvae feeding on YY1540 had higher conversion efficiency of ingested food and lower relative consumption rate, their relative growth was faster, indicating stronger food utilization capability. However, they had a lower accumulation of protein. This suggests that different rice varieties had different levels of oxidative stress after infestation by C. medinalis. The defense response of YY1540 was more intense, which was not conducive to the development of the larvae population. These results will provide new insights into the interaction mechanism between different rice varieties and C. medinalis and provide a theoretical basis for cultivating rice varieties resistant to this pest.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this mixed-methods psychometric study was to translate and adapt the Arabic Pain Care Quality (APainCQ) Survey to Arabic and to measure the quality of pain care provided to Arab patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This study used an iterative, mixed-methods approach that employed cognitive interviews, expert content analysis, and factor analysis to develop the APainCQ Survey. The study was conducted at Dubai Hospital, Dubai Health Authority, United Arab Emirates. Arabic-speaking patients admitted to the oncology/hematology inpatient units with a minimum 24-hour stay were eligible for the study. RESULTS: The sample consisted of 155 patients. The iterative exploratory factor analysis process resulted in the sequential removal of three items. The results of the significant Bartlett test (P < .001) of sphericity and Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin test of 0.93 for both the health care team scale and the nurse scale. The total variance explained was 76.17% for the health care team scale and 60.91% for the nurse scale, which explained 56.51% for factor 1 with 14 items and 4.40% for factor 2. Regarding internal consistency reliability, Cronbach's alpha and McDonald's omega for the health care team scale and nurse scale were high; both values were .95. Internal consistency reliability of pain assessment and pain management subscales of nurse scales were also high, with values of 0.96 and 0.79, respectively. Moreover, there was a moderate correlation (r = 0.66; P < .001) between the two subscales in the nurse scale. CONCLUSION: This study provides evidence that the APainCQ is a reliable and valid measure of pain dimensions, including pain management and monitoring. This APainCQ scale can potentially expand research and clinical assessment in the Arab world.

The fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda, is a notorious polyphagous pest that causes serious economic losses in crucial crops and has invaded Africa and Asia. Lufenuron is widely used for controlling S. frugiperda in China, owing to its high toxicity against this key pest, and less pollution and little impact on natural enemies. In the present study, the sublethal and transgenerational effects of lufenuron on S. frugiperda were investigated to provide in-depth information for the rational use of lufenuron. Results showed that the development time and pupae weight were not significantly affected following exposure of females to LC10 and LC25 and male S. frugiperda to the LC10 of lufenuron. However, LC25 exposure significantly reduced pupal and total development time and pupae weight of male S. frugiperda. The longevity of S. frugiperda adults was prolonged by lufenuron and the fecundity of S. frugiperda treated with LC10 of lufenuron was significantly increased by 40% compared to the control. In addition, our study demonstrated that the LC25 of lufenuron had transgenerational effects on the progeny generation. The development time of female S. frugiperda whose parents were exposed to LC25 of lufenuron was significantly decreased compared to the control. And then, the expression profiles of Vg, VgR, JHEH, JHE, JHAMT, JHBP, CYP307A1, CYP306A1, CYP302A1 and CYP314A1 genes involved in insect reproduction and development were analyzed using Quantitative Real-Time PCR (RT-qPCR). Results showed that Vg, VgR, JHE, JHAMT, and CYP306A1 were significantly upregulated at the LC10 of lufenuron, which revealed that these upregulated genes might be linked with increased fecundity of S. frugiperda. Taken together, these findings highlighted the importance of sublethal and transgenerational effects under laboratory conditions and these effects may change the population dynamics in the field. Therefore, our study provided valuable information for promoting the rational use of lufenuron for controlling S. frugiperda.

BACKGROUND: Pediatric cancer disrupts the lives of siblings in many ways, including physical separations from family and friends that increase risk for distress. Research suggests that siblings use technology and social media to connect with friends and family and seek social support and interaction. However, this may expose siblings to negative online experiences that can erode self-esteem, reducing resilience. OBJECTIVE: This study explored the relationship between online experiences, internet-fostered connection, resilience, and psychosocial health among siblings of children with cancer. METHODS: Participants included adolescent siblings (N = 81; aged 12-17 years) of children with cancer. Most were female (56.8%), and 50.6% represented racially or ethnically minoritized groups. Online experiences, social media use, resilience, and psychosocial health were self-reported and analyzed using structural equation modeling. RESULTS: A majority of siblings reported moderate to severe posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSSs) (59%) and elevated emotional and behavioral difficulties (EBDs) (53%). Experiencing more positive online experiences was associated with greater perceived connection to family and friends online, but not resilience, PTSSs, or EBDs. In contrast, higher negative online experience scores were significantly associated with more PTSSs and EBDs. In addition, the association between negative online experiences and EBDs was significantly mediated by a negative association between negative online experiences and resilience. CONCLUSIONS: Although social media may be a valuable tool for helping siblings of children with cancer garner social support, negative online experiences may be detrimental to their adjustment. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: Efforts should be made to preserve and foster resilience among siblings who use social media for support.

OBJECTIVES: To design an interface to support communication of machine learning (ML)-based prognosis for patients with advanced solid tumors, incorporating oncologists' needs and feedback throughout design. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Using an interdisciplinary user-centered design approach, we performed 5 rounds of iterative design to refine an interface, involving expert review based on usability heuristics, input from a color-blind adult, and 13 individual semi-structured interviews with oncologists. Individual interviews included patient vignettes and a series of interfaces populated with representative patient data and predicted survival for each treatment decision point when a new line of therapy (LoT) was being considered. Ongoing feedback informed design decisions, and directed qualitative content analysis of interview transcripts was used to evaluate usability and identify enhancement requirements. RESULTS: Design processes resulted in an interface with 7 sections, each addressing user-focused questions, supporting oncologists to "tell a story" as they discuss prognosis during a clinical encounter. The iteratively enhanced interface both triggered and reflected design decisions relevant when attempting to communicate ML-based prognosis, and exposed misassumptions. Clinicians requested enhancements that emphasized interpretability over explainability. Qualitative findings confirmed that previously identified issues were resolved and clarified necessary enhancements (eg, use months not days) and concerns about usability and trust (eg, address LoT received elsewhere). Appropriate use should be in the context of a conversation with an oncologist. CONCLUSION: User-centered design, ongoing clinical input, and a visualization to communicate ML-related outcomes are important elements for designing any decision support tool enabled by artificial intelligence, particularly when communicating prognosis risk.

The antioxidant proteins, peroxiredoxins (Prxs), function to protect insects from reactive oxygen species-induced toxicity. In this study, two Prx genes, CsPrx5, and CsPrx6, were cloned and characterized from the paddy field pest, Chilo suppressalis, containing open reading frames of 570 and 672 bp encoding 189 and 223 amino acid polypeptides, respectively. Then, we investigated the influence of various stresses on their expression levels using quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). The results showed expression of CsPrx5 and CsPrx6 in all developmental stages, with eggs having the highest level. CsPrx5 and CsPrx6 showed higher expression in the epidermis and fat body, and CsPrx6 also showed higher expression in midgut, fat body, and epidermis. Increasing concentrations of insecticides (chlorantraniliprole and spinetoram) and hydrogen peroxide (H2 O2 ) increased the expression levels of CsPrx5 and CsPrx6. In addition, the expression levels of CsPrx5 and CsPrx6 were almost markedly upregulated in larvae under temperature stress or fed by vetiver. Thus, CsPrx5 and CsPrx6 upregulation might increase the C. suppressalis defense response by reducing the impact of environmental stress, providing a better understanding of the relationship between environmental stresses and insect defense systems.

Rice leaffolder (Cnaphalocrocis medinalis) is an important insect pest in paddy fields. Due to their essential role in the physiology and insecticidal resistance, ATP-binding cassette (ABC) proteins were studied in many insects. In this study, we identified the ABC proteins in C. medinalis through genomic data and analyzed their molecular characteristics. A total of 37 sequences with nucleotide-binding domain (NBD) were identified as ABC proteins and belonged to eight families (ABCA-ABCH). Four structure styles of ABC proteins were found in C. medinalis, including full structure, half structure, single structure, and ABC2 structure. In addition to these structures, TMD-NBD-TMD, NBD-TMD-NBD, and NBD-TMD-NBD-NBD were found in C. medinalis ABC proteins. Docking studies suggested that in addition to the soluble ABC proteins, other ABC proteins including ABCC4, ABCH1, ABCG3, ABCB5, ABCG1, ABCC7, ABCB3, ABCA3, and ABCC5 binding with Cry1C had higher weighted scores. The upregulation of ABCB1 and downregulation of ABCB3, ABCC1, ABCC7, ABCG1, ABCG3, and ABCG6 were associated with the C. medinalis response to Cry1C toxin. Collectively, these results help elucidate the molecular characteristics of C. medinalis ABC proteins, pave the way for further functional studies of C. medinalis ABC proteins, including their interaction with Cry1C toxin, and provide potential insecticide targets.

Selective hydrogenation of nitrobenzene (SHN) is an important approach to synthesize aniline, an essential intermediate with extremely high research significance and value in the fields of textiles, pharmaceuticals and dyes. SHN reaction requires high temperature and high hydrogen pressure via the conventional thermal-driven catalytic process. On the contrary, photocatalysis provides an avenue to achieve high nitrobenzene conversion and high selectivity towards aniline at room temperature and low hydrogen pressure, which is in line with the sustainable development strategies. Designing efficient photocatalysts is a crucial step in SHN. Up to now, several photocatalysts have been explored for photocatalytic SHN, such as TiO2, CdS, Cu/graphene and Eosin Y. In this review, we divide the photocatalysts into three categories based on the characteristics of the light harvesting units, including semiconductors, plasmonic metal-based catalysts and dyes. The recent progress of the three categories of photocatalysts is summarized, the challenges and opportunities are pointed out and the future development prospects are described. It aims to give a clear picture to the catalysis community and stimulate more efforts in this research area.

Purpose: A diagnosis of pediatric cancer can leave healthy siblings with limited access to support. Technology-mediated interpersonal interactions have been noted among adolescent and young adults with cancer and may be an effective source of support for adolescent siblings of children with cancer. In this study, we understand how adolescent siblings use technology to connect with their support network and how their technology use changes after their sibling's cancer diagnosis. Methods: Participants included a national sample (N = 24) of adolescents aged 12-17 who had a sibling diagnosed with cancer in the last 2 years (up to 3 years if still receiving curative-focused treatment). Ecomaps were cocreated with participants to identify sources of social support and modality of interactions. Interviews were transcribed, coded, content analyzed, and descriptively summarized. Results: Adolescent siblings (mean = 14.2 years) perceived technology as a tool to maintain support from their established personal network, rather than a way to expand sources of social support. Most did not seek support or information about cancer outside their known network, preferring information to come from parents or trusted network members. Siblings identified video calls as an important resource for connecting with parents, their sick brother or sister, and others to receive emotional support and companionship. Conclusions: Findings suggest that adolescent siblings of children use technology to connect with their established network for support, an important finding for designing assessments and interventions for this population. Future inquiry should explore these differences, identify unmet needs, and inform acceptable, effective interventions to augment support.

Pesticide residues have serious environmental impacts on rice-based ecosystems. In rice fields, Chironomus kiiensis and Chironomus javanus provide alternative food sources to predatory natural enemies of rice insect pests, especially when pests are low. Chlorantraniliprole is a substitute for older classes of insecticides and has been used extensively to control rice pests. To determine the ecological risks of chlorantraniliprole in rice fields, we evaluated its toxic effects on certain growth, biochemical and molecular parameters in these two chironomids. The toxicity tests were performed by exposing third-instar larvae to a range of concentrations of chlorantraniliprole. LC50 values at 24 h, 48 h, and 10 days showed that chlorantraniliprole was more toxic to C. javanus than to C. kiiensis. Chlorantraniliprole significantly prolonged the larval growth duration, inhibited pupation and emergence, and decreased egg numbers of C. kiiensis and C. javanus at sublethal dosages (LC10 = 1.50 mg/L and LC25 = 3.00 mg/L for C. kiiensis; LC10 = 0.25 mg/L and LC25 = 0.50 mg/L for C. javanus). Sublethal exposure to chlorantraniliprole significantly decreased the activity of the detoxification enzymes carboxylesterase (CarE) and glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) in both C. kiiensis and C. javanus. Sublethal exposure to chlorantraniliprole also markedly inhibited the activity of the antioxidant enzyme peroxidase (POD) in C. kiiensis and POD and catalase (CAT) in C. javanus. Expression levels of 12 genes revealed that detoxification and antioxidant abilities were affected by sublethal exposures to chlorantraniliprole. There were significant changes in the expression levels of seven genes (CarE6, CYP9AU1, CYP6FV2, GSTo1, GSTs1, GSTd2, and POD) in C. kiiensis and ten genes (CarE6, CYP9AU1, CYP6FV2, GSTo1, GSTs1, GSTd2, GSTu1, GSTu2, CAT, and POD) in C. javanus. These results provide a comprehensive overview of the differences in chlorantraniliprole toxicity to chironomids, indicating that C. javanus is more susceptible and suitable as an indicator for ecological risk assessment in rice ecosystems.

OBJECTIVE: We evaluated nursing-related free-text communication orders to identify potential safety hazards and describe patterns and scope of care domains addressed that may reveal preventable workarounds and potential gaps in electronic health record (EHR) functionality. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis of free-text EHR-based communication orders sent to or by nurses providing inpatient care at a major academic health system. Using built-in EHR tools and selection criteria, 13 193 orders were extracted, including 1373 unique orders. Using the Clinical Care Classification system standardized framework, we classified content by care domain and identified unique requests within each order. We reviewed each order for error-prone textual features based on standard patient safety guidance. We describe the distribution of domains, co-occurrence when 2 domains were present, and common patterns. RESULTS: The 1373 unique orders included a single request (65.3%), 2 requests related to 1 or 2 domains (19%), or 3 or more requests (15.7%). No orders included terms on the Joint Commission's "Do Not Use" list. However, 13.6% of unique orders, and 16.7% of those related to medications, included error-prone symbols or abbreviations according to Institute for Safe Medication Practices guidance. Order content spanned 20 different care components but physical regulation, fluid volume, nutritional, safety, and medication were most frequently identified as single or co-occurring topics. Patterns were heterogenous. DISCUSSION: Free-text communication orders reveal workarounds, responses to upstream workarounds, and design constraints that should be further investigated. Remediation strategies are needed to reduce safety hazards and workflow impediments. CONCLUSIONS: Analysis of free-text communication orders revealed opportunities for improvement.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: As the cobalt chromium (Co-Cr) powder used in selective laser melting (SLM) is costly, reusing the remaining powder after multiple cycles provides an economic and environmental benefit. However, knowledge of the cytotoxic effect of the alloy fabricated from recycled powder is lacking. PURPOSE: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the biological effects of the Co-Cr ions released from the alloy fabricated from the recycled powder on the human gingival fibroblasts (HGFs) and normal oral keratinocytes (NOKs). MATERIAL AND METHODS: Disk-shaped Co-Cr specimens were fabricated by using the SLM technique from powders with different proportions of recycled to unused and from different recycling times. Co and Cr ions released from the disks immersed in the Dulbecco Modified Eagle Medium (DMEM) for 24 hours or 7 days were measured by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Biocompatibility of Co-Cr alloy was detected by incubation of HGFs and NOKs in DMEM containing Co and Cr ions for 24 hours. The ANOVA test was used to evaluate statistically significant differences among different groups (α=.05). RESULTS: Compared with the alloy fabricated from 100% unused powder, the concentrations of Co and Cr ions increased with the increase of recycled to unused powder ratio or with the increase in the recycling times. HGFs and NOKs showed an increase in apoptosis, intracellular oxidative stress (ROS), hypoxia-inducing factor1α (HIF-1α), and proinflammatory cytokines (tumor necrosis factor alpha [TNF- α], interleukin 6 [IL-6], interleukin 8 [IL-8], and vascular endothelial growth factor [VEGF]) with the increase of Co-Cr ions in a concentration-dependent manner. A significant reduction in cell proliferation was found with the increase in the concentrations of Co and Cr ions (P<.05). CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study indicated that Co-Cr alloy fabricated from partially recycled powder or powder with different recycling times released significantly more Co and Cr ions and showed higher cytotoxicity to HGFs and NOKs than the alloy fabricated from unused powder.

BACKGROUND: The aim of the study was to investigate whether the citric acid and rough surface have a synergistic effect leading to severe wear behavior of resin composite. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Disk-shaped (Ø15 × 1.5 mm) specimens of resin composite (n = 12) with different initial roughness were prepared. Reciprocating ball-on-flat wear tests were performed under distilled water and citric acid (pH = 5.5) respectively. The coefficient of friction (COF), wear volume loss, and duration of the running-in period were quantified to assess the wear performance. And the values were analyzed with one-way ANOVA (α = 0.05). Regression analysis was applied to examine the influence of Ra values and mediums on the wear data. The wear morphology was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and a 3D profilometer. RESULTS: The average COF was higher in distilled water than in citric acid but was independent of the surface roughness. For the composite, the volume loss of worn area and running-in period increased with surface roughness when tested under distilled water. However, these increasing trends were not found in citric acid. All specimens exhibited mild wear behavior with low COF and less superficial abrasion in acidic medium. CONCLUSIONS: The effect of initial roughness on wear behavior depends on the medium. In distilled water, resin composites with high initial roughness exhibit a longer running-in time, which eventually leads to a significant increase in material loss. The adverse effects of high roughness can be alleviated by the lubrication of citric acid, which can maintain a mild wear behavior regardless of initial surface roughness.

Potassium ferrate has strong oxidation in both acid and alkali environments, which has attracted extensive attention. However, the impact of the pH environment on this coupling process with the goal of resource recovery has not received attention. Under the goal of the efficient recovery of organic acid, the changes of solid-liquid characteristics of sludge after acid and alkaline ferrate pretreatment and during anaerobic digestion were discussed. The results showed that compared with blank control groups, after alkaline ferrate pretreatment, the volatile suspended solids (VSSs) decreased the most, reaching 28.19%. After being pretreated with alkaline ferrate, the sludge showed the maximum VFA accumulation (408.21 COD/g VSS) on the third day of digestion, which was 1.34 times higher than that of the acid ferrate pretreatment. Especially in an alkaline environment, there is no need to add additional alkaline substances to adjust the pH value, and the effect of sludge reduction and acid production is the best.

Chilo suppressalis is a widely distributed pest occurring in nearly all paddy fields, which has developed high level resistance to different classes of insecticides. Vetiver grass has been identified as a dead-end trap plant for the alternative control of C. suppressalis. In this study, two cytochrome P450 monooxygenase (P450) genes, CsCYP6SN3 and CsCYP306A1, were identified and characterized, which are expressed at all developmental stages, with the highest expression in the midguts and fat bodies of 3rd instar larvae. Vetiver significantly inhibited the expression levels of CsCYP6SN3 and CsCYP306A1 in 3rd larvae after feeding. RNA interference showed that silencing CsCYP6SN3 and CsCYP306A1 genes dramatically reduced the pupation rate and pupa weight. Feeding on vetiver after silencing CsCYP6SN3 and CsCYP306A1 led to higher mortality compared with feeding on rice. In conclusion, these findings indicated that the expression levels of CsCYP6SN3 and CsCYP306A1 were associated with the lethal effect of vetiver against C. suppressalis larvae and functional knowledge about these two detoxification genes could provide new targets for agricultural pest control.
