RESUMO

PURPOSE: To assess the predictive value of pretreatment proliferative activity of epidermoid cervix carcinoma cells with respect to short- and long-term results of radiotherapy. METHODS AND MATERIALS: The proliferative activity of 25 epidermoid cervix carcinomas was evaluated as the immunofluorescent labeling index (LI) by rabbit antithymidine antibodies reacting specifically with single-stranded DNA of replication forks in S-phase cells. The short-term clinical outcome was estimated at 3-6 months after treatment by visual and palpatory examination. Three-year follow-up data were obtained through hospital charts and correspondence with referring physicians for only 19 patients. RESULTS: There was no statistically significant association between LI and such conventional prognostic factors as clinical stage. The LI value of cervix carcinomas was significantly associated with complete regression at 3-6 months after radiotherapy and 3-year disease-free survival. Complete regression at 3-6 months was observed in 87.5% patients with fast proliferating tumors (LI > 7.0%), and only in 41.2% patients with slowly proliferating tumors (p = 0.03). Probability of 3-year disease-free survival was 85.7% in patients with fast proliferating tumors and 50.0% in those with slowly proliferating tumors (p = 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The immunofluorescent LI of epidermoid cervix carcinoma is able to provide prognostic information on short-term tumor response to radiotherapy and disease-free survival.

RESUMO

Norms of inclusion of vitamins (B1; B2; PP) and mineral substances (Ca and Fe) in high and first-rate wheat's flour were defined. Vitamin's contents were verified and composed balance of vitamins and mineral substances contents in different stages of technology process. It was established efficacy of enrichment of wheat's flour with vitamin-mineral mixture to production as fast as possible, particularly in regions of Chernobil's accident and also in regions with ferrum deficiency.

RESUMO

The article deals with the results of ultrasonic examination (USE) of 39 patients with secondary edema of the lower extremities. The authors developed a USE method which yields objective data characterizing changes of the structure, thickness, boundaries, and firmness of the soft tissues in lymphedema of the lower extremities of various severity. It was established that lymphostasis produced a characteristic ultrasonic pattern, which, as claimed by the author, may be used in differential diagnosis of lymphatic and venous edema of the extremities.

RESUMO

In 90 patients with malignant neoplasia of larynx, stomach and cervix uteri the functional state of hemostasis was investigated within the process of radiotherapy and in radiotherapy and radiosensitization by metronidazole. Aim of this work is to answer the question if metronidazole affects the state of organism besides its effect on radiosensitivity of tumor tissue, especially the system of hemostasis, the impairment of which can not seldom result in thrombohemorrhagic complications in oncologic patients as is known. It was pointed out that the thrombophilic status of the blood of patients with stomach carcinoma continues to be unchanged and the patients are endangered for thrombosis potentially. In consequences of radiotherapy and doses of metronidazole the capacity for adhesion is decreased in thrombocytes of patients with laryngeal and cervical carcinomas to a high degree, whereby the thrombogenic potential of blood is reduced and with that the risk for origin of intravascular thrombosis.

RESUMO

Acupuncture was carried out in 141 sufferers from late-onset radiation injuries to skin and soft tissues. 122 patients (86%) revealed clinical manifestations of edema of varying gravity in arms and legs, while 19 (14%) suffered radiation-induced neuritis or plexitis unaccompanied by edema. Radionuclide and rheographic studies as well as evaluation of hemostatic function showed acupuncture to be an effective treatment for edema and pain. It also improved lymph flow, rheovasographic indexes and normalized hemostasis. The best results were obtained in cases of stage I-II edema.

RESUMO

The efficacy of various therapeutic schemes: medicinal (basic therapy--BT), acupuncture (AP) and laser therapy (LT) against a background of basic therapy--was assessed and compared in 36 patients with radiation limb edema. It was established that a degree of a decrease in edemas, the improvement of indices of rheovasography grew in the following order: BT----AP----LT. The recovery of the lymph flow and immunological indices were the same in all therapeutic schemes.

RESUMO

A study was made of the functional activity of platelets, plasmatic coagulation and fibrinolysis in patients with late radiation disorders of the blood and lymph flow during treatment with vasodilative drugs: nicotinic acid and midocalm. These drugs tend to decrease the functional activity of platelets and to raise the blood fibrinolytic activity. Their use is indicated to this group of patients to better their intravascular status.

RESUMO

A study was made of the frequency, clinical appearance and therapeutic methods of radiation injuries in 12 out of 57 patients who were treated for cancer of the tongue using interstitial therapy with 252Cf. The most frequent radiation injuries were observed in patients (6 out of 18, i.e. 34%) who were treated for recurrent and residual tumors after previous radiotherapeutic courses as compared to the treatment of primary malignant lesions in 6 out 39 (15%) patients. The clinical picture of radiation injuries of the tongue presented an ulcer of various sizes. A clinical classification of radiation injuries of the tongue was developed depending on the degree of the manifestations. Among causative factors the most important role is played by an absorbed tumor dose which when exceeding 9 Gy in patients with primary tumors and 8 Gy in patients with recurrent and residual tumors, resulted in radiation injuries. The development of radiation injuries is also influenced by poor hygiene and the oral cavity, and such harmful habits as smoking and alcohol consumption. Conservative therapeutic measures made it possible to achieve a complete epithelization of ulcers.

RESUMO

The results of clinical roentgenologic examination of 2 patients with lymphangiomatosis are discussed. The analysis of angiographic findings has shown that arteries and veins remained unchanged in affected area. Lymphography revealed fully changed lymphatics in affected areas. Numerous markedly dilated lymph vessels and cystic cavities of different shape and size were noted. In bony spongiosus substance the fissural spaces were filled with oily contrast medium. Roentgenologically, they appeared as numerous small conglomerates limited to bone contours.
