Gender is an important risk factor for adverse drug reactions. Women report significantly more adverse drug reactions than men. There is a growing consensus that gender differences in drug PK is a main contributor to higher drug toxicity in women. These differences stem from physiological differences (body composition, plasma protein concentrations, and liver and kidney function), drug interactions, and comorbidities. Contrast agents are widely used to enhance diagnostic performance in computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. Despite their broad use, these contrast agents can lead to important adverse reactions including hypersensitivity reactions, nephropathy, and hyperthyroidism. Importantly, female gender is one of the main risk factors for contrast agent toxicity. As these adverse reactions may be related to gender differences in PK, this perspective aims to describe distribution and elimination pathways of commonly used contrast agents and to critically discuss gender differences in these processes.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to compare the detection rate of and reader confidence in 0.55 T knee magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings with 3 T knee MRI in patients with acute trauma and knee pain. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this prospective study, 0.55 T and 3 T knee MRI of 25 symptomatic patients (11 women; median age, 38 years) with suspected internal derangement of the knee was obtained in 1 setting. On the 0.55 T system, a commercially available deep learning image reconstruction algorithm was used (Deep Resolve Gain and Deep Resolve Sharp; Siemens Healthineers), which was not available on the 3 T system. Two board-certified radiologists reviewed all images independently and graded image quality parameters, noted MRI findings and their respective reporting confidence level for the presence or absence, as well as graded the bone, cartilage, meniscus, ligament, and tendon lesions. Image quality and reader confidence levels were compared ( P < 0.05 = significant), and clinical findings were correlated between 0.55 T and 3 T MRI by calculation of the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). RESULTS: Image quality was rated higher at 3 T compared with 0.55 T studies (each P ≤ 0.017). Agreement between 0.55 T and 3 T MRI for the detection and grading of bone marrow edema and fractures, ligament and tendon lesions, high-grade meniscus and cartilage lesions, Baker cysts, and joint effusions was perfect for both readers. Overall identification and grading of cartilage and meniscal lesions showed good agreement between high- and low-field MRI (each ICC > 0.76), with lower agreement for low-grade cartilage (ICC = 0.77) and meniscus lesions (ICC = 0.49). There was no difference in readers' confidence levels for reporting lesions of bone, ligaments, tendons, Baker cysts, and joint effusions between 0.55 T and 3 T (each P > 0.157). Reader reporting confidence was higher for cartilage and meniscal lesions at 3 T (each P < 0.041). CONCLUSIONS: New-generation 0.55 T knee MRI, with deep learning-aided image reconstruction, allows for reliable detection and grading of joint lesions in symptomatic patients, but it showed limited accuracy and reader confidence for low-grade cartilage and meniscal lesions in comparison with 3 T MRI.

Background: Switzerland ranks among the top three healthcare systems in the world with regards to healthcare access, suggesting a high degree of health equity. However, Switzerland has few preventive strategies against smoking abuse. The aim of this study is to clarify whether educational level and citizenship status have an influence on the prevalence of smoking in Switzerland and whether there is health inequity related to a lack of preventive strategies. Methods: We based our analysis on publicly available health data published in the Swiss government's Swiss health survey (1992-2017). We compared the prevalence of smoking across the years and correlated these data with levels of educational attainment, citizenship status and age. Results: A continuous significant decline in smokers is observed in the highest education group (TERT). Over time, prevalence was reduced from 29% in 1992 to 23% in 2017 (p < 0.001). The intermediate-level educational group (SEK 2) showed smaller but also significant decline on a 0.05 sigificance level over the same period, from 31% to 29% (p = 0.003). The lowest educational group showed a nonsignificant decline from 28% to 27% (p = 0.6). The population who holds Swiss citizenship showed a decrease in smoking from 28% to 26% within the time frame (p < 0.001). People without Swiss citizenship had a much higher prevalence of smokers, at 38% in 1992 and declining to 32% in 2017 (p < 0.001). All cohorts from age 15 to age 64 have a far higher prevalence of smokers than cohorts at an older age, with the highest prevalence in the 25-34 age group. Conclusion: In Switzerland, individuals with lower levels of education and non-Swiss populations are more susceptible to health risk of smoking. This is despite the existence of a high-quality healthcare system that has nevertheless failed to negated health inequities.

INTRODUCTION: A trend towards less male radiologists specializing in breast ultrasound was observed. A common notion in the field of breast radiology is, that female patients feel more comfortable being treated by female radiologists. The aim of the study was to understand and report the needs of women undergoing breast ultrasound with regards to the sex of the radiologist performing the investigation. METHODS: Informed consent was obtained from all patients prior to inclusion in a prospective bi-center quality study. At center 1 (72 patients), the women were examined exclusively by female radiologists, at center 2 (100 patients) only by male radiologists. After the examination the patients were asked about their experiences and their wishes for the future. RESULTS: Overall, women made no distinction between female and male radiologists; 25% of them wanted a female radiologist and 1.2% wanted a male radiologist. The majority (74%) stated that it made no difference whether a female or male radiologist performed the examination. The majority of women in group 2, who were investigated exclusively by male radiologists, stated that they had no preferences with regard to the sex of the radiologist (93%); 5% of the women wished to be investigated solely by a female radiologist and 2% exclusively by a male radiologist. DISCUSSION: The majority of women undergoing breast ultrasound are unconcerned about the radiologist's sex. It would appear that women examined by male radiologists are less selective about the sex of the examining radiologist. TRIAL REGISTRATION: Written informed consent was obtained from all patients. All patient data were anonymized. The physicians had no access to any further personal data. National regulations did not require dedicated ethics approval with anonymized lists or retrospective questionnaires.

BACKGROUND: Venous leak appears to be the most common cause of vasculogenic erectile dysfunction (ED), which can be treated with venous embolization. Traditionally, conventional cavernosography was used for the diagnosis and treatment planning of venous leak. Recently, computed tomography (CT) cavernosography was introduced as a novel cross-sectional imaging method proposed to be advantageous over conventional cavernosography. We created a novel management algorithm for diagnosing venous leak including CT cavernosography as an imaging modality. In order to provide a broader basis for our management algorithm, a systematic literature review was conducted. MAIN BODY: In this article we systematically review relevant literature on using CT cavernosography for the diagnosis and treatment planning in ED patients with venous leak following the PRISMA selection process. Nine full-text articles were included in the review and assigned a level of evidence grade (all grade II). Two studies (2/9) compared the results of conventional cavernosography with those of CT cavernosography which was superior for site-specific venous leak identification (19.4% vs. 100%, respectively). CT cavernosography is a more detailed imaging method that is faster to perform, exposes the patient to less radiation, and requires less contrast material. In one study (1/9), CT cavernosography was used for diagnostic purposes only. Eight studies (8/9) cover both, diagnostic imaging and treatment planning including embolization (1/9) and sclerotherapy (2/9) of venous leak in patients with venogenic ED. Three studies (3/9) describe anatomical venous leak classifications that were established based on CT cavernosography findings for accurate mapping of superficial and/or deep venous leak and identification of mixed or more complex forms of venous leak present in up to 84% of patients. In addition to treatment planning, one study (1/9) used CT cavernosography also for follow-up imaging post treatment. CONCLUSION: CT cavernosography is superior to conventional cavernosography for diagnosis and treatment planning in patients with ED caused by venous leak (grade II levels of evidence). Consequently, CT cavernosography should be included in management algorithms for ED patients with suspected venous leak.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the effect of a device-assisted suction against resistance Mueller maneuver (MM) on transient interruption of contrast (TIC) in the aorta and pulmonary trunk (PT) on computed tomography pulmonary angiogram (CTPA). METHODS: In this prospective single-center study, 150 patients with suspected pulmonary artery embolism were assigned randomly with two different breathing maneuvers (Mueller maneuver (MM) or standard end-inspiratory breath-hold command (SBC)) during routine CTPA. The MM was performed using a patented prototype (Contrast Booster™) which allows both the patient by means of visual feedback and the medical staff in the CT scanning room to monitor whether the patient is sucking sufficiently or not. Mean Hounsfield attenuation in descending aorta and PT was measured and compared. RESULTS: Overall, patients with MM showed an attenuation of 338.24 HU in the pulmonary trunk, compared to 313.71 HU in SBC (p = 0.157). In the aorta, the values for MM were lower compared to SBC (134.42 HU vs. 177.83 HU, p = 0.001). The TP-aortic ratio was significantly higher in the MM group at 3.86 compared to the SBC group at 2.26, p = 0.001. TIC phenomenon was absent in the MM group, whereas it was present in 9 patients (12.3%) in the SBC group (p = 0.005). Overall contrast was better on all levels for MM (p < 0.001). The presence of breathing artifacts was higher in the MM group (48.1% vs. 30.1%, p = 0.038), without clinical consequence. CONCLUSIONS: Performing the MM with the application of the prototype is an effective way of preventing the TIC phenomenon during i.v. contrast-enhanced CTPA scanning compared to the standard end-inspiratory breathing command. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Compared to standard end-inspiratory breathing command, the device-assisted Mueller maneuver (MM) improves contrast enhancement and prevents the transient interruption of contrast (TIC) phenomenon in CTPA. Therefore, it may offer optimized diagnostic workup and timely treatment for patients with pulmonary embolism. KEY POINTS: ⢠Transient interruption of contrast (TIC) may impair image quality in CTPA. ⢠Mueller Maneuver using a device prototype could lower the rate of TIC. ⢠Device application in clinical routine may increase diagnostic accuracy.

BACKGROUND: We compared T1- and T2-weighted signal intensities of liver-specific (gadoxetate, gadobenate) and non-specific (gadoterate) gadolinium contrast agents (CAs) in a bile phantom. METHODS: In a phantom study, gadoxetate, gadobenate, and gadoterate were diluted in saline, blood, and bile at different concentrations (0, 0.25, 0.5. 1, 2.5, 5, 10, and 25 mM) and imaged in a 3-T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system using T1- and T2-weighted sequences. The maximum signal intensities of CAs were compared for each sequence separately and across all T1-weighted sequences using one-way ANOVA. RESULTS: Using T1-weighted sequences, CA concentration-dependent signal intensity increase was followed by decrease due to T2* effects. Comparing CAs for each sequence in bile yielded higher maximum signal intensities with gadobenate than gadoxetate and gadoterate using T1-weighted spin-echo (p < 0.010), multiecho gradient- and spin-echo (p < 0.001), and T1-weighted high-resolution isotropic volume excitation (eTHRIVE) sequences (p < 0.010). Comparing across all T1-weighted sequences in the bile phantom, gadobenate imaged using T1-weighted turbo field-echo (TFE) sequence showed the highest signal intensity, significantly higher than that using other CAs agents or sequences (p < 0.004) except for gadobenate and gadoxetate evaluated with three-dimensional multiecho fast field-echo (3D-mFFE) and gadoxetate with T1-weighted TFE sequence (p > 0.141). Signal reduction with CA concentration-dependent decrease was observed on T2-weighted images. CONCLUSION: In this bile phantom study of gadolinium-based CA, gadobenate and gadoxetate showed high signal intensity with T1-weighted TFE and 3D-mFFE sequences, which supports their potential utility for contrast-enhanced hepatobiliary MRI. KEY POINTS: ⢠Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance (MR) cholangiography depends on contrast agent type, kinetics, and concentration in bile, ⢠We compared signal intensities of three contrast agents in a bile phantom study. ⢠Gadobenate, gadoxetate, and gadoterate demonstrated different signal intensities at identical concentrations. ⢠Gadoxetate and gadobenate showed high signal intensities on T1-weighted MR sequences.

Background: Pregabalin is a gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) analog that was approved in the EU in 2004 for the treatment of neuropathic pain, generalized anxiety disorder and epilepsy. Since its introduction, pregabalin abuse and misuse has increased significantly. In Switzerland, clinical reports suggest that pregabalin misuse is common among patients in forensic hospitals and prisons. However, data on pregabalin use is scarce, especially in these settings. Therefore, we conducted a study to explore patterns of pregabalin use among prison and forensic patients. Methods: We used a questionnaire to survey physicians working in prison and forensic medicine in German-speaking countries. A total of 131 responses were received. Results: According to the physicians' subjective assessment, 82.5% of them had observed a recent increase in pregabalin use by their patients and 89.1% of them reported that their patients requested pregabalin without a clear medical indication. Patients misusing pregabalin in combination with other illicit substances were observed by 93.3% of the physicians surveyed. According to 73.5% of the physicians surveyed, they had already encountered patients on pregabalin doses of more than 600 mg/day (the maximum recommended daily dose); the highest dose reported was 4,200 mg/day. According to 85.0% of physicians surveyed, they have observed patients experiencing withdrawal symptoms from pregabalin, with the most commonly reported symptoms being displeasure and high aggression. Regarding the nationality of pregabalin-misusing patients, 58.3% of the interviewed physicians reported to be rather in contact with foreign patients, mainly from Northwest Africa (Maghreb). Only 45.0% of the surveyed physicians prescribe pregabalin. Among patients who developed behavioral problems while taking pregabalin, none of the physicians (0.0%) showed a tendency to continue pregabalin at the same dose; all respondents chose to reduce/substitute/discontinue. Conclusion: Our study has provided confirmatory evidence that the use of pregabalin presents a significant issue in forensic and prison medicine across German-speaking countries. Prescribing pregabalin in this field can compound use disorder problems and exacerbate challenges in daily life for those in forensic institutions or prisons. It is necessary that all physicians who prescribe pregabalin are clearly informed about the management (including the risks) of this drug.

Background: Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, it became apparent that members of marginalized populations and immigrants were also at risk of being hospitalized and dying more frequently from COVID-19. To examine how the pandemic affected underserved and marginalized populations, we analyzed data on changes in the number of deaths among people with and without Swiss citizenship during the first and second SARS-CoV-2 waves. Method: We analyzed the annual number of deaths from the Swiss Federal Statistical Office from 2015 to 2020, and weekly data from January 2020 to May 2021 on deaths of permanent residents with and without Swiss citizenship, and we differentiated the data through subdivision into age groups. Results: People without Swiss citizenship show a higher increase in the number of deaths in 2020 than those who were Swiss citizens. The increase in deaths compared to the previous year was almost twice as high for people without Swiss citizenship (21.8%) as for those with it (11.4%). The breakdown by age group indicates that among people between the ages of 64 and 75, those without Swiss citizenship exhibited an increase in mortality (21.6%) that was four times higher than that for people with Swiss citizenship (4.7%). Conclusion: This study confirms that a highly specialized health care system, as is found in Switzerland, does not sufficiently guarantee that all parts of the population will be equally protected in a health crisis such as COVID-19.

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer screening is essential in detecting breast tumors, however, the examination is stressful. In this study we analyzed whether humor enhances patient satisfaction. METHODS: In this prospective randomized study 226 patients undergoing routine breast cancer screening at a single center during October 2020 to July 2021 were included. One hundred thirty-two were eligible for the study. Group 1 (66 patients) received an examination with humorous intervention, group 2 (66 patients) had a standard breast examination. In the humor group, the regular business card was replaced by a self-painted, humorous business card, which was handed to the patient at the beginning of the examination. Afterwards, patients were interviewed with a standardized questionnaire. Scores between the two study groups were compared with the Mann-Whitney U test or Fisher's exact test. P-values were adjusted with the Holm's method. Two-sided p-values < 0.05 were considered significant. RESULTS: One hundred thirty-two patients, 131 female and 1 male, (mean age 59 ± 10.6 years) remained in the final study cohort. Patients in the humor group remembered the radiologist's name better (85%/30%, P < .001), appreciated the final discussion with the radiologist more (4.67 ± 0.73-5;[5, 5] vs. 4.24 ± 1.1-5;[4, 5], P = .017), felt the radiologist was more empathetic (4.94 ± 0.24-5;[5, 5] vs.4.59 ± 0.64-5;[4, 5], P < .001), and rated him as a humorous doctor (4.91 ± 0.29-5;[5, 5] vs. 2.26 ± 1.43-1;[1, 4], P < .001). Additionally, patients in the humor group tended to experience less anxiety (p = 0.166) and felt the doctor was more competent (p = 0.094). CONCLUSION: Humor during routine breast examinations may improve patient-radiologist relationship because the radiologist is considered more empathetic and competent, patients recall the radiologist's name more easily, and value the final discussion more. TRIAL REGISTRATION: We have a general approval from our ethics committee because it is a retrospective survey, the patient lists for the doctors were anonymized and it is a qualitative study, since the clinical processes are part of the daily routine examinations and are used independently of the study. The patients have given their consent to this study and survey.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: To determine if radiological hard- and software offers options beyond the binary female / male classification. METHODS: We surveyed thirteen radiological hardware and six radiological software vendors about the options to enter patient gender. RESULTS: Six of thirteen hardware and five of six software vendors replied to our inquiry. All vendors except one offered a third option in addition to male / female. CONCLUSION: We found that most hard- and software systems provide with a third option for patient gender. These systems allow radiology personnel to accurately document patient gender in the medical record and contribute to an inclusive patient experience in the radiology department. Registering the biological sex in addition to gender may further improve medical care.

PURPOSE: To assess the clinical feasibility of spiral 3D Time-Of-Flight (TOF) MR Angiography (MRA) sequence variants for rapid non-contrast carotid artery imaging. METHODS: Nine different 3D TOF MRA sequences were acquired in nine healthy volunteers on a standard clinical 1.5 T scanner. Three cartesian sequences (fully sampled (10:15 min), accelerated with SENSE (05:08 min), accelerated with Compressed SENSE (03:32 min)) and six different spiral sequences were acquired (spiral acquisition windows ranging from 10 to 5 ms (01:32 min-03:05 min)). Three readers graded the images qualitatively in terms of overall image quality, vessel sharpness, inhomogeneous intraluminal signal, background noise, visualization of large and small vessels and overall impression of the number of visible vessels. Cross-sectional areas of the vessel lumen were measured and vessel sharpness was quantified. RESULTS: The SENSE and Compressed SENSE accelerated cartesian sequences and the Spiral 6 ms and 5 ms sequences were deemed comparable to the fully sampled cartesian sequence in most qualitative categories (p > 0.05) based on exact binomial tests. The Spiral 6 ms and 5 ms sequences achieved a scan time reduction of 75.3% and 69.9% respectively compared to the fully sampled cartesian sequence. The spiral sequences (generally) exhibited improved subjective vessel sharpness (p < 0.01-p = 0.13) but increased background noise (p = 0.03-p = 0.25). Cross-sectional area measurements were similar between all sequences (Krippendorff's alpha: 0.955-0.982). Quantitative vessel sharpness was increased for all spiral sequences compared to all cartesian sequences (p = 0.004). CONCLUSIONS: Spiral 3D TOF MRA sequences with a spiral acquisition window of 5 ms or 6 ms may be used for accurate, rapid, clinical non-contrast carotid artery imaging.

BACKGROUND. Sequences with noncartesian k-space sampling may improve image quality of head and neck MRI. OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this study was to compare intraindividually the image quality of a spiral gradient-recalled echo (GRE) sequence and conventional cartesian GRE and cartesian turbo spin-echo (TSE) sequences for contrast-enhanced T1-weighted head and neck MRI. METHODS. This prospective study included patients referred for contrast-enhanced head and neck MRI from August 2020 to May 2021. Patients underwent 1.5-T MRI including contrast-enhanced spiral GRE (2 minutes 28 seconds), cartesian GRE (4 minutes 27 seconds), and cartesian TSE (3 minutes 41 seconds) sequences, acquired in rotating order across patients. Three radiologists independently assessed image quality measures, including conspicuity of prespecified lesions, using 5-point Likert scales. One reader measured maximal extent of dental material artifact and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR). RESULTS. Thirty-one patients (13 men, 18 women; mean age, 63.8 years) were enrolled. Nineteen patients had a focal lesion; 22 had dental material. Interreader agreement for image quality measures was substantial to excellent (Krippendorff alpha, 0.681-1.000). Scores for overall image quality (whole head and neck, neck only, and head only), pulsation artifact, muscular contour delineation, vessel contour delineation, motion artifact, and differentiation between mucosa and pharyngeal muscles were significantly better for spiral GRE than for cartesian GRE and cartesian TSE for all readers (p < .05). Scores for lesion conspicuity (whole head and neck, neck only, and head only), quality of fat suppression, flow artifact, and foldover artifact were not significantly different between spiral GRE and the cartesian sequences for any reader (p > .05). Dental material artifact scores were significantly worse for spiral GRE than the other sequences for all readers (p < .05). The mean maximum extent of dental material artifact was 39.6 ± 25.5 (SD) mm for spiral GRE, 35.6 ± 24.3 mm for cartesian GRE, and 29.6 ± 21.4 mm for cartesian TSE; the mean CNR was 221.1 ± 94.5 for spiral GRE, 151.8 ± 85.7 for cartesian GRE, and 153.0 ± 63.2 for cartesian TSE (p < .001 between spiral GRE and other sequences for both measures). CONCLUSION. Three-dimensional spiral GRE improves subjective image quality and CNR of head and neck MRI with shorter scan time versus cartesian sequences, though it exhibits larger dental material artifact. CLINICAL IMPACT. A spiral sequence may help overcome certain challenges of conventional cartesian sequences for head and neck MRI.

A survey of hospitals on three continents was performed to assess their infection control preparedness and measures, and their infection rate in hospital health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. All surveyed hospitals used similar PPE but differences in preparedness, PPE shortages, and infection rates were reported.

PURPOSE: To investigate the diagnostic yield of low to ultra-high b-values for the differentiation of benign from malignant vertebral fractures using a state-of-the-art single-shot zonal-oblique-multislice spin-echo echo-planar diffusion-weighted imaging sequence (SShot ZOOM SE-EPI DWI). MATERIALS AND METHODS: 66 patients (34 malignant, 32 benign) were examined on 1.5 T MR scanners. ADC maps were generated from b-values of 0,400; 0,1000 and 0,2000s/mm2. ROIs were placed into the fracture of interest on ADC maps and trace images and into adjacent normal vertebral bodies on trace images. The ADC of fractures and the Signal-Intensity-Ratio (SIR) of fractures relative to normal vertebral bodies on trace images were considered quantitative metrics. The appearance of the fracture of interest was graded qualitatively as iso-, hypo-, or hyperintense relative to normal vertebrae. RESULTS: ADC achieved an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.785/0.698/0.592 for b = 0,400/0,1000/0,2000s/mm2 ADC maps respectively. SIR achieved an AUC of 0.841/0.919/0.917 for b = 400/1000/2000s/mm2 trace images respectively. In qualitative analyses, only b = 2000s/mm2 trace images were diagnostically valuable (sensitivity:1, specificity:0.794). Machine learning models incorporating all qualitative and quantitative metrics achieved an AUC of 0.95/0.98/0.98 for b-values of 400/1000/2000s/mm2 respectively. The model incorporating only qualitative metrics from b = 2000s/mm2 achieved an AUC of 0.97. CONCLUSION: By using quantitative and qualitative metrics from SShot ZOOM SE-EPI DWI, benign and malignant vertebral fractures can be differentiated with high diagnostic accuracy. Importantly qualitative analysis of ultra-high b-value images may suffice for differentiation as well.

BACKGROUND: Kaizen-a management technique increasingly employed in health care-enables employees, regardless of their hierarchy level, to contribute to the improvement of their organization. The approach puts special emphasis on frontline employees because it represents one of their main opportunities to participate directly in decision making. In this study, we aimed to (1) understand the experiences of nurses in two hospitals that had recently implemented kaizen, and (2) identify factors affecting the implementation of the technique. METHODS: By means of purposeful sampling, we selected 30 nurses from different units in two private acute care hospitals in Switzerland in May 2018. We used the Organizational Transformation Model to conduct semi-structured interviews and perform qualitative content analysis. Lastly, originating from Herzberg's motivation theory, we suggest two types of factor influencing the implementation of kaizen-hygiene factors that may prevent nurses from getting demotivated, and motivational factors that may boost their motivation. RESULTS: Nurses generally experienced kaizen as a positive practice that enabled them to discuss work-related activities in a more comprehensive manner. In some cases, however, a lack of visible improvement in the workplace lowered nurses' motivation to make suggestions. Nurses' attitudes towards kaizen differed across both hospitals depending on the available managerial support, resources such as infrastructure and staffing levels. CONCLUSIONS: From our findings, we derived several coping strategies to help health practitioners implement kaizen for the benefit of their organization and employees: Strong managerial support, appropriate use of kaizen tools, and a greater sense of team cohesion, among other factors, can influence how effectively hospital teams implement kaizen. To reap the benefits of kaizen, hospital managers should promote the exchange of opinions across hierarchy levels, allocate the necessary resources in terms of personnel and infrastructure, and show nurses how the technique can help them improve their workplace.
