RESUMO

Luminescent materials can adjust the spectrum of light energy utilization by plants. However, current research on the effects of luminescent materials on aquatic plants and periphytic biofilms is limited. This study investigated the effects of the luminescent materials 4-(di-p-tolylamino) benzaldehyde-A (DTB-A) and 4-(di-p-tolylamino) benzaldehyde-M (DTB-M) on the submerged macrophyte Vallisneria natans (V. natans) and periphytic biofilm. Result demonstrated that low concentrations of DTB (0.1 µM) significantly promoted the growth and photosynthetic rate of V. natans. In terms of enzyme activity, exposure to a higher concentration of DTB (10 µM) increased the activities of peroxidase (POD), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT). A combination of DTB-A and DTB-M treatment significantly changed the V. natans morphology and physiological characteristics, reducing the thickness of the cell wall and subsequently, promoting protein accumulation in leaves. There was no difference in the removal of ammonia or phosphate by V. natans at the 0.1 µM concentration, and the removal of ammonia and phosphate by V. natans decreased significantly as the concentration of luminescent material increased. A total of 3563 OTUs were identified in the biofilm community. The microbial community was dominated by Pseudomonas and Fusobacteria. Furthermore, results showed that an obvious decrease in diversity in the DTB-A and DTB-M mixed treatment group. In addition, the migratory aggregation of DTB molecules in plants was observed by fluorescence imaging. Overall, these findings extend our understanding of the mechanism of effect of luminescent materials on submerged macrophytes and their periphytic microorganisms.

RESUMO

Ageratina adenophora can enhance its invasive ability by using beneficial rhizosphere bacteria. Bacillus cereus is able to promote plant growth and provide a positive feedback effect to A. adenophora. However, the interaction between A. adenophora and B. cereus under the influence of native polyphagous insect feeding is still unclear. In this study, Eupatorium lindleyanum, a local species closely related to A. adenophora, was used as a control, aimed to compare the content of B. cereus in the roots of A. adenophora and rhizosphere soil after different densities of Aphis gossypii feeding, and then investigated the variations in the population of A. gossypii and soil characteristics after the addition of B. cereus. The result showed that B. cereus content in the rhizosphere soil and root of A. adenophora increased significantly under A. gossypii feeding compared with local plants, which also led to the change of α-diversity and ß-diversity of the bacterial community, as well as the increase in nitrate nitrogen (NO3 -N) content. The addition of B.cereus in the soil could also inhibit the population growth of A. gossypii on A. adenophora and increase the content of ammonium nitrogen (NH4 +-N) in the soil. Our research demonstrated that B. cereus enhances the ability of A. adenophora to resist natural enemy by increasing soil ammonium nitrogen (NH4 +-N) and accumulating other beneficial bacteria, which means that rhizosphere microorganisms help invasive plants defend themselves against local natural enemies by regulating the soil environment.

RESUMO

Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD), the most common subtype of lung cancer, is a global health challenge with high recurrence and mortality rates. The coagulation cascade plays an essential role in tumor disease progression and leads to death in LUAD. We differentiated two coagulation-related subtypes in LUAD patients in this study based on coagulation pathways collected from the KEGG database. We then demonstrated significant differences between the two coagulation-associated subtypes regarding immune characteristics and prognostic stratification. For risk stratification and prognostic prediction, we developed a coagulation-related risk score prognostic model in the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) cohort. The GEO cohort also validated the predictive value of the coagulation-related risk score in terms of prognosis and immunotherapy. Based on these results, we identified coagulation-related prognostic factors in LUAD, which may serve as a robust prognostic biomarker for therapeutic and immunotherapeutic efficacy. It may contribute to clinical decision-making in patients with LUAD.

RESUMO

A hot topic in recent years is the prediction of the potential distribution of possible invasive insects. China is facing a great challenge due to invasive insects. Scarab beetles are a highly diverse group, and many of them are well-known invasive insects. Here, in order to prevent the invasion of scarab beetles in China, we screened the invasive insects globally and obtained a preliminary database of quarantine or invasive scarab beetles. From the obtained database, we selected the top five species (Popillia japonica, Heteronychus arator, Oryctes monoceros, Oryctes boas and Amphimallon majale) to discuss and analyzed the potential distribution of three species that have not invaded China by using the MaxEnt model. The prediction results show that every continent has potential distribution areas for these species. Specifically within China, Popillia japonica and Amphimallon majale were mainly concentrated in east central regions and Heteronychus arator and Oryctes boas were mainly distributed in the southwest areas, while Oryctes monoceros has no suitable area. Notably, Yunnan, Hunan, Jiangxi and Zhejiang province had a high risk of invasion. In general, local agriculture, forestry and customs departments in China should pay more attention to monitoring for the prevention of infestation by invasive insects.

RESUMO

(1) Background: Accurate measurement of lung-nodule size is necessary, but whether a three-dimensional volume measurement is better or more reliable than the one-dimensional method is still unclear. This study aimed to investigate the intra- and inter-reader variations according to nodule type, size, three-dimensional volume measurements, and one-dimensional linear measurements. (2) Methods: This retrospective study included computed tomography (CT) examinations of lung nodules and volume measurements performed from October to December 2016. Two radiologists independently performed all measurements. Intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC) and Bland-Altman plots were used for analysis. (3) Results: The overall variability in the calculated volume was larger than when using the semiautomatic volume measurement. Nodules <6 mm tended to have larger variability than nodules ≥6 mm in both one-dimensional and calculated volume measurements. The isolated type showed smaller variability in both intra- and inter-reader comparisons. The juxta-vascular type showed the largest variability in both one-dimensional and calculated volume measurements. The variability was decreased when using the 3D volume semiautomated software. (4) Conclusions: The present study suggests that 3D semiautomatic volume measurements showed lower variability than the calculated volume measurement. Nodule size and location influence measurement variability. The intra- and inter-reader variabilities in nodule volume measurement were considerable.

RESUMO

This paper investigates the clinical application value of quantitative CT (QCT) technique in evaluating liver fat content in patients with schizophrenia. 457 patients with schizophrenia underwent abdominal CT and QCT scans. QCT postprocessing software (QCT Pro version 6.1) measures the percentage of liver fat content in all patients and calculates the average value. Then, the CT workstation displays the corresponding liver/spleen CT value ratio. SPSS 25.0 software is used for statistical analysis of data, and the correlation coefficient between the mean liver fat content. The ratio of liver/spleen CT values is calculated and the consistency between the results is compared. The ROC curve is used to define the cutoff value of the target and evaluate its diagnostic efficiency. There is a high negative correlation between the mean liver fat content and the ratio of liver/spleen CT value in all schizophrenia patients (r = -0.935, P < 0.05). The identification rate of patients with mild fatty liver by QCT technology is 4 times higher than that of the liver and spleen CT value ratio (50.98% Vs 12.47%). Taking the ratio of the liver to the spleen as the standard, the ROC curve of the liver fat content in QCT is drawn, the cutoff values of the mean liver fat content of the normal liver and mild fatty liver and mild and moderate fatty liver were 9.35% and 19.4%, respectively. Comparing this result with the results obtained by the existing QCT for the fatty liver diagnosis and grading standard value (American standard) shows that there is a difference of about 5% between the two. Compared with the semiquantitative liver/spleen ratio, QCT technology can quantify the liver fat content. Given the particularity of patients with schizophrenia, QCT can be used as an important test for identifying early fatty liver and assessing the severity of fatty liver.
