Due to the ordered one-dimensional channel as well as accessible redox sites, two-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (2D COFs) have garnered extensive attention in the field of electrochromism. However, organic 2D frameworks impose limitations on charge transfer and the weak interlayer interactions in 2D COFs, adversely affecting the stability during switching processes. Herein, we introduced Ti knots to construct three-dimensional metalated covalent organic frameworks (3D MCOFs), denoted as Ti-DHTA-Py. The Ti knots not only serve as templates for organizing organic units into unique 3D topological structures in a controlled manner but also establish charge transfer pathways conducive to electron delocalization and transmission within the framework. As a result, the 3D Ti-DHTA-Py MCOFs electrode exhibited a reduced band gap and remarkable electrochromic (EC) performances: electrochemical cyclic stability of 93.6% retention after 500 cycles, switching times (2.5 s/0.5 s), and a high coloration efficiency (423 cm2 C-1). This research underscores the potential of 3D MCOFs as promising candidates for advancing EC technologies, surmounting the limitations associated with traditional 2D COFs.

This review explores the evolving landscape of gynecological oncology by focusing on emerging RNA modification signatures as promising biomarkers for assessing the risk and progression of ovarian, cervical, and uterine cancers. It provides a comprehensive overview of common RNA modifications, especially m6A, and their roles in cellular processes, emphasizing their implications in gynecological cancer development. The review meticulously examines specific m6A regulators including "writers", "readers", and "erasers" associated with three gynecological cancer types, discussing their involvement in initiation and progression. Methodologies for detecting RNA modifications are surveyed, highlighting advancements in high-throughput techniques with high sensitivity. A critical analysis of studies identifying m6A regulators as potential biomarkers is presented, addressing their diagnostic or prognostic significance. Mechanistic insights into RNA modification-mediated cancer progression are explored, shedding light on molecular pathways and potential therapeutic targets. Despite current challenges, the review discusses ongoing research efforts, future directions, and the transformative possibility of RNA modifications on early assessment and personalized therapy in gynecological oncology.

The global health threat posed by carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) is exacerbated by the limited availability of effective treatments. Bacteriophages are promising alternatives to conventional antimicrobial agents. However, current phage databases are limited. Thus, identifying and characterizing new phages could provide biological options for the treatment of multi-drug resistant bacterial infections. Here, we report the characterization of a novel lytic phage, vB_KpnP_23, isolated from hospital sewage. This phage exhibited potent activity against carbapenemase-producing CRKP strains and was characterised by an icosahedral head, a retractable tail, and a genome comprising 40,987 base pairs, with a G + C content of 51 %. Capable of targeting and lysing nine different capsule types (K-types) of CRKP, including the clinically relevant ST11-K64, it demonstrated both high bacteriolytic efficiency and stability in various environmental contexts. Crucially, vB_KpnP_23 lacks virulence factors, antimicrobial resistance genes, or tRNA, aligning with the key criteria for therapeutic application. In vitro evaluation of phage-antibiotic combinations revealed a significant synergistic effect between vB_KpnP_23 and meropenem, levofloxacin, or amikacin. This synergy could lead to an 8-fold reduction in the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), suggesting that integrated treatments combining this phage with the aforementioned antibiotics may substantially enhance drug effectiveness. This approach not only extends the clinical utility of these antibiotics but also presents a strategic advance in combating antibiotic resistance. Specifically, it underscores the potential of phage-antibiotic combinations as a powerful tool in the treatment of infections caused by CRKP, offering a promising avenue to mitigate the public health challenges of antibiotic-resistant pathogens.

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary hypertension is a rare, progressive disorder that can lead to right ventricular hypertrophy, right heart failure, and even sudden death. N6-methyladenosine modification and the main methyltransferase that mediates it, methyltransferase-like (METTL) 3, exert important effects on many biological and pathophysiological processes. However, the role of METTL3 in pyroptosis remains unclear. METHODS AND RESULTS: Here, we characterized the role of METTL3 and the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms of pyroptosis, which is involved in pulmonary hypertension. METTL3 was downregulated in a pulmonary hypertension mouse model and in hypoxia-exposed pulmonary artery smooth muscle cell. The small interfering RNA-induced silencing of METTL3 decreased the m6A methylation levels and promoted pulmonary artery smooth muscle cell pyroptosis, mimicking the effects of hypoxia. In contrast, overexpression of METTL3 suppressed hypoxia-induced pulmonary artery smooth muscle cell pyroptosis. Mechanistically, we identified the phosphate and tension homology deleted on chromosome 10 (PTEN) gene as a target of METTL3-mediated m6A modification, and methylated phosphate and tension homology deleted on chromosome 10 mRNA was subsequently recognized by the m6A "reader" protein insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding protein 2, which directly bound to the m6A site on phosphate and tension homology deleted on chromosome 10 mRNA and enhanced its stability. CONCLUSIONS: These results identify a new signaling pathway, the METTL3/phosphate and tension homology deleted on chromosome 10/insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding protein 2 axis, that participates in the regulation of hypoxia-induced pyroptosis.

Escherichia coli, a rod-shaped Gram-negative bacterium, is a significant causative agent of severe clinical bacterial infections. This study aimed to analyze the epidemiology of extended-spectrum ß-lactamase (ESBL)-producing mcr-1 -positive E. coli in Shandong, China. We collected 668 non-duplicate ESBL-producing E. coli strains from clinical samples at Shandong Provincial Hospital between January and December 2018, and estimated their minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) using a VITEK® 2 compact system and broth microdilution. Next-generation sequencing and bioinformatic analyses identified the mcr-1 gene and other resistance genes in the polymyxin B-resistant strains. The conjugation experiment assessed the horizontal transfer capacity of the mcr-1 gene. Of the strains collected, 24 polymyxin B-resistant strains were isolated with a positivity rate of 3.59% and among the 668 strains, 19 clinical strains carried the mobile colistin resistance gene mcr-1, with a positivity rate of approximately 2.8%. All 19 clinical strains were resistant to ampicillin, cefazolin, ceftriaxone, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, and polymyxin B. Seventeen strains successfully transferred the mcr-1 gene into E. coli J53. All transconjugants were resistant to polymyxin B, and carried the drug resistance gene mcr-1. The 19 clinical strains had 14 sequence types (STs), with ST155 (n = 4) being the most common. The whole-genome sequencing results of pECO-POL-29_mcr1 revealed that no ISApl1 insertion sequences were found on either side of the mcr-1 gene. Our study uncovered the molecular epidemiology of mcr-1-carrying ESBL-producing E. coli in the region and suggested horizontal transmission mediated by plasmids as the main mode of mcr-1 transmission.

Background: Enterobacter cloacae complex (ECC), which includes major nosocomial pathogens, causes urinary, respiratory, and bloodstream infections in humans, for which colistin is one of the last-line drugs. Objective: This study aimed to analyse the epidemiology and resistance mechanisms of colistin-resistant Enterobacter cloacae complex (ECC) strains isolated from Shandong, China. Methods: Two hundred non-repetitive ECC strains were collected from a tertiary hospital in Shandong Province, China, from June 2020 to June 2022. Whole-genome sequencing and bioinformatics analyses were performed to understand the molecular epidemiology of the colistin-resistant ECC strains. The nucleotide sequences of heat shock protein (hsp60) were analyzed by using BLAST search to classify ECC. The gene expression levels of ramA, soxS, acrA, acrB, phoP, and phoQ were assessed using RT-qPCR. MALDI-TOF MS was used to analyse the modification of lipid A. Results: Twenty-three colistin-resistant strains were detected among the 200 ECC clinical strains (11.5%). The hsp60 cluster analysis revealed that 20 of the 23 ECC strains belonged to heterogeneous resistance clusters. Variants of mgrB, phoPQ, and pmrAB, particularly phoQ and pmrB, were detected in the 23 ECC strains. The soxS and acrA genes were significantly overexpressed in all 23 colistin-resistant ECC strains (P < 0.05). Additionally, all 23 ECC strains contained modified lipid A related to colistin resistance, which showed five ion peaks at m/z 1876, 1920, 1955, 2114, and 2158. Among the 23 ECC strains, 6 strains possessed a phosphoethanolamine (pETN) moiety, 16 strains possessed a 4-amino-4-deoxy-L-arabinose (-L-Ara4N) moiety, and one strain had both pETN and -L-Ara4N moieties. Conclusion: This study suggests that diverse colistin resistance existed in ECC, including unknown resistance mechanisms, exist in ECC. Mechanistic investigations of colistin resistance are warranted to optimise colistin use in clinical settings and minimise the emergence of resistance.

The role of peroxiredoxin 1 (PRDX1), a crucial enzyme that reduces reactive oxygen and nitrogen species levels in HepG2 human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells, in the regulation of HCC cell stemness under oxidative stress and the underlying mechanisms remain largely unexplored. Here, we investigated the therapeutic potential of non-thermal plasma in targeting cancer stem cells (CSCs) in HCC, focusing on the mechanisms of resistance to oxidative stress and the role of PRDX1. By simulating oxidative stress conditions using the plasma-activated medium, we found that a reduction in PRDX1 levels resulted in a considerable increase in HepG2 cell apoptosis, suggesting that PRDX1 plays a key role in oxidative stress defense mechanisms in CSCs. Furthermore, we found that HepG2 cells had higher spheroid formation capability and increased levels of stem cell markers (CD133, c-Myc, and OCT-4), indicating strong stemness. Interestingly, PRDX1 expression was notably higher in HepG2 cells than in other HCC cell types such as Hep3B and Huh7 cells, whereas the expression levels of other PRDX family proteins (PRDX 2-6) were relatively consistent. The inhibition of PRDX1 expression and peroxidase activity by conoidin A resulted in markedly reduced stemness traits and increased cell death rate. Furthermore, in a xenograft mouse model, PRDX1 downregulation considerably inhibited the formation of solid tumors after plasma-activated medium (PAM) treatment. These findings underscore the critical role of PRDX 1 in regulating stemness and apoptosis in HCC cells under oxidative stress, highlighting PRDX1 as a promising therapeutic target for NTP-based treatment in HCC.

α particles must be monitored to be managed as radioactive diagnostic agents or nuclear activity indicators. The new generation of perovskite detectors suffer from limited energy resolution, which affects spectroscopy and imaging applications. Here, we report that the solution-grown CsPbBr3 crystal exhibits a low and stable dark current (34.6 nA·cm-2 at 200 V) by thinning the as-grown crystal to decrease the high concentration CsPb2Br5 phase near the surface. The introduction of the Schottky electrode for the CsPbBr3 detector further reduces the dark current and improves the high-temperature stability. An energy resolution of 6.9% is achieved with the commercial electronic system, while the effects of air scattering and absorption are investigated. Moreover, 1.1% energy resolution is recognized by a full-customized readout application-specific integrated circuit without any additional signal processing, which matches well with the given parameters of the CsPbBr3 detector by reducing the parasitic capacitance and electronic noise.

Cervical cancer, significantly affecting women worldwide, often involves treatment with bleomycin, an anticancer agent targeting breast, ovarian, and cervical cancers by generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) to induce cancer cell death. The Peroxiredoxin (PRDX) family, particularly PRDX1 and 2, plays a vital role in maintaining cellular balance by scavenging ROS, thus mitigating the damaging effects of bleomycin-induced mitochondrial and cellular oxidative stress. This process reduces endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and prevents cell apoptosis. However, reducing PRDX1 and 2 levels reverses their protective effect, increasing apoptosis. This research highlights the importance of PRDX1 and 2 in cervical cancer treatments with bleomycin, showing their potential to enhance treatment efficacy by managing ROS and ER stress and suggesting a therapeutic strategy for improving outcomes in cervical cancer treatment.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of the meta-analysis was to determine the influence of uterine fibroids on adverse outcomes, with specific emphasis on multiple or large (≥ 5 cm in diameter) fibroids. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, ClinicalTrials.gov, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and SinoMed databases for eligible studies that investigated the influence of uterine fibroids on adverse outcomes in pregnancy. The pooled risk ratio (RR) of the variables was estimated with fixed effect or random effect models. RESULTS: Twenty-four studies with 237 509 participants were included. The pooled results showed that fibroids elevated the risk of adverse outcomes, including preterm birth, cesarean delivery, placenta previa, miscarriage, preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM), placental abruption, postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), fetal distress, malposition, intrauterine fetal death, low birth weight, breech presentation, and preeclampsia. However, after adjusting for the potential factors, negative effects were only seen for preterm birth, cesarean delivery, placenta previa, placental abruption, PPH, intrauterine fetal death, breech presentation, and preeclampsia. Subgroup analysis showed an association between larger fibroids and significantly elevated risks of breech presentation, PPH, and placenta previa in comparison with small fibroids. Multiple fibroids did not increase the risk of breech presentation, placental abruption, cesarean delivery, PPH, placenta previa, PPROM, preterm birth, and intrauterine growth restriction. Meta-regression analyses indicated that maternal age only affected the relationship between uterine fibroids and preterm birth, and BMI influenced the relationship between uterine fibroids and intrauterine fetal death. Other potential confounding factors had no impact on malposition, fetal distress, PPROM, miscarriage, placenta previa, placental abruption, and PPH. CONCLUSION: The presence of uterine fibroids poses increased risks of adverse pregnancy and obstetric outcomes. Fibroid size influenced the risk of breech presentation, PPH, and placenta previa, while fibroid numbers had no impact on the risk of these outcomes.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Chemotherapy is mainly used in the clinical treatment of prostate cancer. Different anticancer mechanisms can induce cell death in various cancers. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) play crucial roles in cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and signal transduction. It is widely accepted that ROS accumulation is closely related to chemical drug-induced cancer cell death. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We utilized the MTT assay to detect changes in cell proliferation. Additionally, colony formation and wound healing assay were conducted to investigate the effect of hispidin on cell colony formation and migration ability. Fluorescence microscopy was used to detect intracellular and mitochondrial ROS levels, while western blot was used for detection of cell apoptosis. RESULTS: Hispidin treatment significantly decreased viability of PC3 and DU145 cancer cells but exhibited no cytotoxicity in WPMY-1 cells. Furthermore, hispidin treatment inhibited cell migration and colony formation and triggered cellular and mitochondrial ROS accumulation, leading to mitochondrial dysfunction and mitochondrion-dependent apoptosis. Moreover, hispidin treatment induced ferroptosis in PC3 cells. Scavenging of ROS with N-acetyl cysteine significantly inhibited hispidin-induced apoptosis by altering the expression of apoptosis-related proteins, such as cleaved caspase-3, 9, Bax, and Bcl2. Furthermore, hispidin treatment dramatically up-regulated MAPK (involving p38, ERK, and JNK proteins) and NF-kB signaling pathways while down-regulating AKT phosphorylation. Hispidin treatment also inhibited ferroptosis signaling pathways (involving P53, Nrf-2, and HO-1 proteins) in PC3 cells. In addition, inhibiting these signaling pathways via treatment with specific inhibitors significantly reversed hispidin-induced apoptosis, cellular ROS levels, mitochondrial dysfunction, and ferroptosis. CONCLUSION: Hispidin may represent a potential candidate for treating prostate cancer.

Objective: Infections caused by Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) have high treatment costs, high mortality and few effective therapeutic agents. This study aimed to determine the risk factors for progression from intestinal colonization to infection in hematological patients and the risk factors for 30-day mortality in infected patients. Methods: A retrospective case-control study was conducted in the Department of Hematology at Shandong Provincial Hospital affiliated to Shandong First Medical University from April 2018 to April 2022. Patients who developed subsequent infections were identified as the case group by electronic medical record query of patients with a positive rectal screen for CRE colonization, and patients who did not develop subsequent infections were identified as the control group by stratified random sampling. Univariate analysis and logistic regression analysis determined risk factors for developing CRE infection and risk factors for mortality in CRE-infected patients. Results: Eleven hematological patients in the study developed subsequent infections. The overall 30-day mortality rate for the 44 hematological patients in the case-control study was 11.4% (5/44). Mortality was higher in the case group than in the control group (36.5 vs. 3.0%, P = 0.0026), and septic shock was an independent risk factor for death (P = 0.024). Univariate analysis showed that risk factors for developing infections were non-steroidal immunosuppressants, serum albumin levels, and days of hospitalization. In multivariable logistic regression analysis, immunosuppressants [odds ratio (OR), 19.132; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.349-271.420; P = 0.029] and serum albumin levels (OR, 0.817; 95% CI, 0.668-0.999; P = 0.049) were independent risk factors for developing infections. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that septic shock increases mortality in CRE-infected hematological patients. Hematological patients with CRE colonization using immunosuppressive agents and reduced serum albumin are more likely to progress to CRE infection. This study may help clinicians prevent the onset of infection early and take measures to reduce mortality rates.

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a complex vascular disorder, characterized by pulmonary vessel remodeling and perivascular inflammation. Pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells (PASMCs) pyroptosis is a novel pathological mechanism implicated of pulmonary vessel remodeling. However, the involvement of circRNAs in the process of pyroptosis and the underlying regulatory mechanisms remain inadequately understood. METHODS: Western blotting, PI staining and LDH release were used to explore the role of circLrch3 in PASMCs pyroptosis. Moreover, S9.6 dot blot and DRIP-PCR were used to assess the formation of R-loop between circLrch3 and its host gene Lrch3. Chip-qPCR were used to evaluate the mechanism of super enhancer-associated circLrh3, which is transcriptionally activated by the transcription factor Tbx2. RESULTS: CircLrch3 was markedly upregulated in hypoxic PASMCs. CircLrch3 knockdown inhibited hypoxia induced PASMCs pyroptosis in vivo and in vitro. Mechanistically, circLrch3 can form R-loop with host gene to upregulate the protein and mRNA expression of Lrch3. Furthermore, super enhancer interacted with the Tbx2 at the Lrch3 promoter locus, mediating the augmented transcription of circLrch3. CONCLUSION: Our findings clarify the role of a super enhancer-associated circLrch3 in the formation of R-loop with the host gene Lrch3 to modulate pyroptosis in PASMCs, ultimately promoting the development of PH.

BACKGROUND: Carbapenem-resistant hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae (CR-hvKP) co-producing blaKPC and blaNDM poses a serious threat to public health. This study aimed to investigate the mechanisms underlying the resistance and virulence of CR-hvKP isolates collected from a Chinese hospital, with a focus on blaKPC and blaNDM dual-positive hvKP strains. METHODS: Five CR-hvKP strains were isolated from a teaching hospital in China. Antimicrobial susceptibility and plasmid stability testing, plasmid conjugation, pulsed-field gel electrophoresis, and whole-genome sequencing (WGS) were performed to examine the mechanisms of resistance and virulence. The virulence of CR-hvKP was evaluated through serum-killing assay and Galleria mellonella lethality experiments. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16 highly homologous carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae (CRKP) producing KPC-2 isolates from the same hospital was conducted to elucidate the potential evolutionary pathway of CRKP co-producing NDM and KPC. RESULTS: WGS revealed that five isolates individually carried three unique plasmids: an IncFIB/IncHI1B-type virulence plasmid, IncFII/IncR-type plasmid harboring KPC-2 and IncC-type plasmid harboring NDM-1. The conjugation test results indicated that the transference of KPC-2 harboring IncFII/IncR-type plasmid was unsuccessful on their own, but could be transferred by forming a hybrid plasmid with the IncC plasmid harboring NDM. Further genetic analysis confirmed that the pJNKPN26-KPC plasmid was entirely integrated into the IncC-type plasmid via the copy-in route, which was mediated by TnAs1 and IS26. CONCLUSION: KPC-NDM-CR-hvKP likely evolved from a KPC-2-CRKP ancestor and later acquired a highly transferable blaNDM-1 plasmid. ST11-KL64 CRKP exhibited enhanced plasticity. The identification of KPC-2-NDM-1-CR-hvKP highlights the urgent need for effective preventive strategies against aggravated accumulation of resistance genes.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to characterise the whole-genome structure of two clinical Klebsiella pneumoniae strains co-harbouring mcr-8.1 and tmexCD1-toprJ1, both resistant to colistin and tigecycline. METHODS: K. pneumoniae strains TGC-02 (ST656) and TGC-05 (ST273) were isolated from urine samples of different patients hospitalised at separate times in 2021. Characterisation involved antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST), conjugation assays, whole-genome sequencing (WGS), and bioinformatics analysis. Comparative genomic analysis was conducted on mcr-8.1-carrying and tmexCD1-toprJ1-carrying plasmids. RESULTS: Both K. pneumoniae isolates displayed a multidrug-resistant phenotype, exhibiting resistance or reduced susceptibility to ampicillin, ampicillin/sulbactam, cefazolin, aztreonam, amikacin, gentamicin, tobramycin, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, nitrofurantoin, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, apramycin, tigecycline and colistin. WGS analysis revealed that clinical strain TGC-02 carried the TmexCD1-toprJ1 gene on a 200-Kb IncFII/IncFIB-type plasmid, while mcr-8 was situated on a 146-Kb IncFII-type plasmid. In clinical strain TGC-05, TmexCD1-toprJ1 was found on a 300-Kb IncFIB/IncHI1B/IncR-type plasmid, and mcr-8 was identified on a 137-Kb IncFII/IncFIA-type plasmid. Conjugation experiments assessed the transferability of these plasmids. While transconjugants were not obtained for TGC-05 despite multiple screening with tigecycline or colistin, pTGC-02-tmex and pTGC-02-mcr8 from clinical K. pneumoniae TGC-02 demonstrated self-transferability through conjugation. Notably, the rearrangement of pTGC-02-tmex and pTGC-02-mcr8 via IS26-based homologous recombination was observed. Moreover, the conjugative and fusion plasmids of the transconjugant co-harboured the tmexCD1-toprJ1 gene cluster and mcr-8.1, potentially resulting from IS26-based homologous recombination. CONCLUSION: The emergence of colistin- and tigecycline-resistant K. pneumoniae strains is concerning, and effective surveillance measures should be implemented to prevent further dissemination.

The relationship between serum albumin (ALB) and short-term prognosis in patients with acute pulmonary embolism (APE) remains unclear. We investigated the predictive value of ALB for short-term prognosis in APE patients using our hospital pulmonary embolism (PE) database (384 patients consecutively collected). Logistic regression analysis and nomograms were applied to construct the predictive model, and validation was assessed. A total of 340 APE patients were included, with a 30-day all-cause mortality rate of 8.5%. The incidence of hypoalbuminemia was 15.9%. The odds ratio (OR) for short-term mortality in patients with high ALB was 0.89 (0.886, 95% CI: 0.812-0.967). Additionally, we created a nomogram for individualized mortality risk prediction. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis showed that the diagnostic area under the curve (AUC) of ALB was 0.758 (95% CI 0.683-0.833), and the best cut-off value was 33.85 g/L. Optimal simplified Pulmonary Embolism Severity Index (sPESI) (ALB combined sPESI) AUC was 0.835 (95% CI 0.775-0.896). Baseline hypoalbuminemia may be an independent prognostic indicator of short-term mortality in patients with APE.

Motor control is a complex process of coordination and information interaction among neural, motor, and sensory functions. Investigating the correlation between motor-physiological information helps to understand the human motor control mechanisms and is important for the assessment of motor function status. In this manuscript, we investigated the differences in the neuromotor coupling analysis between healthy controls and stroke patients in different movements. We applied the corticokinematic coherence (CKC) function between the electroencephalogram (EEG) and acceleration (ACC) data. First, we collected the EEG and ACC data from 10 healthy controls and 10 stroke patients under the task of movement execution (ear touch and knee touch) and movement maintenance (ear touch and knee touch). After the preprocessing of raw data, we used frequency domain coherence method to analyze the full-frequency EEG and ACC data, which could be concluded that the CKC intensity in the movement execution was higher than that in the movement maintenance. However, there was no significant difference between healthy subjects and stroke patients. Secondly, the coherence results in local frequency bands showed that low-frequency bands could better reflect the difference between movement execution and maintenance. The intensity of coherence in healthy subjects was significantly higher than that in other bands, but not in stroke patients. Further comparison of coherence results in local frequency bands showed that the intensity of theta band in healthy controls was significantly higher than other rhythms, especially in the knee touch phase. Therefore, we infer that neurodynamic coupling analysis based on EEG and ACC data can show the differences between healthy subjects and stroke patients. Such researches could add to the understanding of neuro-motor control mechanisms and provide new quantitative indicators on the motor function assessment.

PURPOSE: The proportion of patients with poor ovarian response (POR) is increasing, but effective treatment remains a challenge. To control the hidden peaks of luteinizing hormone (LH) and premature ovulation for poor responders, this study investigated the efficacy of flexible short protocol (FSP) with gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonist (GnRH-ant) on trigger day. METHODS: The 662 cycles of POR patients were retrospectively analyzed. The cohort was divided into control and intervention groups. The intervention group (group A) with 169 cycles received a GnRH-ant given on trigger day. The control (group B) with 493 cycles received only FSP. The clinical outcomes of the two groups were compared. RESULTS: Compared with group B, with gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonist (GnRH-ant) on trigger day in group A the incidences of spontaneous premature ovulation decreased significantly (2.37% vs. 8.72%, P < 0.05). The number of fresh embryo-transfer cycles was 45 in group A and 117 in group B. There were no significant differences in clinical outcomes, including implantation rate, clinical pregnancy rate, live birth rate and the cumulative live birth rate (12.0% vs. 9.34%; 22.22% vs. 21.93%; 17.78% vs. 14.91%; 20.51% vs. 20%, respectively; P > 0.05) between the two group. CONCLUSION: FSP with GnRH-ant addition on trigger day had no effect on clinical outcomes, but could effectively inhibit the hidden peaks of luteinizing hormone (LH) and spontaneous premature ovulation in POR. Therefore, it is an advantageous option for POR women.

The contribution of lateral carbon (C) to hydrological processes is well known for its ecological functions in the estuarine C budget across the terrestrial-aquatic interfaces. However, sampling of individual daily tides during multiple months or seasons in heterogeneous patches of landscape makes extrapolation from days to months or seasons challenging. In this paper, we examine the terrestrial-aquatic lateral hydrological C flux for an estuarine marsh where monthly tides, including consecutive daily spring tides, were measured over the course of an entire year. We found a significant correlation between imported and exported hydrological dissolved C, both dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), although a similar correlation was not found for particulate organic carbon (POC). Based on a total of 44 sampling trips over a year, this saltmarsh appeared to be a net exporter of DOC and DIC but a net sink of POC. Furthermore, the lateral hydrological C budget functioned as a limited lateral C sink in terms of organic C (i.e., ΔPOC and ΔDOC), while the marsh functioned as a small lateral C source. Our findings highlight the importance of lateral hydrologic inflows/outflows in wetland C budgets of land-water interfaces, especially in those characterized by the meta-ecosystem framework. Surprisingly, different C species responded unequally to the lateral hydrological C budget, suggesting that a conceptual realization of meta-ecosystem is a powerful theoretical framework to extend the outwelling hypothesis.
