RESUMO

Lead-free double perovskites offer enhanced stability and lower toxicity compared to their lead-based counterparts. Dual B-site cations can introduce elemental and structural diversity into double perovskite materials, enabling fine-tuning of the optical properties. However, the study of the nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of lead-free double perovskites is still nascent, hindering their relevant potential applications. Based on this, this work synthesizes a series of Cs2AgIn1-xBixCl6 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.25, 0.75, 1) single crystals, with the aim to explore the impact of composition on their NLO properties. Interestingly, Cs2AgInCl6 shows surface defect-induced second harmonic generation. With increasing Bi3+ concentration, the multiphoton absorption coefficients of Cs2AgIn1-xBixCl6 single crystals increase as a result of increasing state density. This work is helpful to understand well the NLO properties of lead-free double perovskites, laying a foundation for the development of related applications.

RESUMO

Despite the widely recommended usage of partially hydrolyzed formula (PHF) or extensively hydrolyzed formula (EHF) of milk protein for preventing allergic diseases (ADs), clinical studies have been inconclusive regarding their efficacy compared with that of cow's milk formula (CMF) or breast milk (BM). We aimed to systematically evaluate the effects of PHF or EHF compared with those of CMF or BM on risk of ADs (cow's milk allergy, allergic rhinitis, eczema, asthma, wheeze, food allergy, and sensitization) in children. We searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science for clinical trials published from inception to 21 October, 2022. We used the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) approach to grade the strength of evidence. Overall, 24 trials (10,950 infants) were included, 17 of which specifically included high-risk infants. GRADE was low for the evidence that, compared with CMF, infants early fed with EHF had lower risk of cow's milk allergy at age 0-2 y [relative risk (RR): 0.62; 95% CI: 0.39, 0.99]. Moderate evidence supported that PHF and EHF reduced risk of eczema in children aged younger or older than 2 y, respectively (RR: 0.71; 95% CI: 0.52, 0.96; and RR: 0.79; 95% CI: 0.67, 0.94, respectively). We also identified moderate systematic evidence indicating that PHF reduced risk of wheeze at age 0-2 y compared with CMF (RR: 0.50; 95% CI: 0.29, 0.85), but PHF and EHF increased the risk compared with BM (RR: 1.61; 95% CI: 1.11, 2.31; and RR: 1.64; 95% CI: 1.26, 2.14). Neither PHF nor EHF had significant effects on other ADs in children of any age. In conclusion, compared with CMF, PHF, or EHF had different preventive effect on cow's milk allergy, eczema, and wheeze. Compared with BM, both PHF and EHF may increase risk of wheeze but not other ADs. Given that most trials included only high-risk infants, more research on non-high-risk infants is warranted before any generalization is attempted. This protocol was registered at PROSPERO as CRD42022320787.

RESUMO

Among various chiral semiconductor materials, chiral two-dimensional (2D)/three-dimensional (3D) composite perovskites (CPs) offer the benefits of strong interface asymmetry and energy transfer between 2D and 3D phases, making the chiral CPs promising for spintronic devices. Therefore, understanding their spintronic properties will be greatly important for expanding their relevant applications. In this work, we synthesized one pair of chiral 2D/3D CP films. Their Rashba effect and spin relaxation process have been investigated by polarization-dependent femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy. Interestingly, under left- and right-handed circularly polarized light (CPL) excitation, a two-photon emission intensity difference is observed in chiral 2D/3D CP films at 298 K. This work sheds light on the spin-dependent excitonic characteristics of chiral 2D/3D CPs and confirms the feasibility of their application in near-infrared CPL detection.

RESUMO

Chiral transition metal oxides (TMOs) are in the forefront of research as potential active materials in various optoelectronic applications. However, the nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of the chiral TMOs have not been fully understood. Here, several kinds of copper oxide nanosheets capped with different chiral amino acids are synthesized. Notably, we investigate the NLO activities of these materials, including broadband second harmonic generation and transformation of nonlinear optical properties from saturable absorption to reverse saturable absorption. This work will broaden the use of chiral TMO materials in nonlinear photonic devices.

RESUMO

Several studies indicate that the disruption of the intestinal epithelial barrier can lead to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Recent evidence has increasingly demonstrated that lactoferrin (LF) and osteopontin (OPN) can alleviate intestinal barrier injury. However, the potential synergistic effects of these two proteins and the mechanisms underlying their effects remain unclear. To address this question, we developed a lipopolysaccharide-induced intestinal barrier injury model in C57BL/6 N mice. Our findings demonstrated that the combination of LF and OPN at a 1:5 ratio exerts the strongest protective effect on the intestinal barrier, and it is more effective than LF or OPN alone. This protection is evidenced by the decrease in serum diamine oxidase (DAO) activity (1.66-fold decrease) and D-lactic content (1.51-fold decrease) and the reduced rate of FITC-labeled glucan transport across the jejunum (3.18-fold decrease). Moreover, the protein combination significantly promoted villi length (1.66-fold increase) and crypt depth (1.57-fold increase), improved tight junction protein structure and expression, and boosted the number of absorptive cells (4.34-fold increase) in the intestinal epithelium. Furthermore, the combination promoted crypt cell proliferation and differentiation via Notch signaling. In summary, our findings provide scientific evidence supporting the use of dietary intervention strategies for preventing IBD.

RESUMO

Aims: There has been a shortage of human studies to elucidate the association between serum arsenic levels and the prevalence of hypertension. This study multidirectionally investigated associations among arsenic exposure, dietary ingestion, and the risk of hypertension by combined human epidemiological and mouse experimental studies. Methods and results: This study focused on the total arsenic level in fasting serum, a biomarker of arsenic exposure. Associations among ingestion frequencies of 54 diet items of Japanese food separated into six categories, total arsenic level in fasting serum, and the prevalence of hypertension were investigated in 2709 general people in Japan. Logistic regression analysis demonstrated a dose-dependent association between serum arsenic level and hypertension and a positive association between the ingestion of fish meat and hypertension. Further analysis showed that the latter association was fully mediated by increased fasting serum arsenic levels in humans. Similarly, oral exposure to the putative human-equivalent dose of arsenic species mixture with the same ratios in a common fish meat in Japan increased systolic blood pressure and arsenic levels in fasting serum in mice. Conclusion: This interdisciplinary approach suggests that fish-meat ingestion is a potential risk factor for arsenic-mediated hypertension. Because the increased consumption of fish meat is a recent global trend, health risks of the increased ingestion of arsenic via fish meat should be further investigated.

RESUMO

It is necessary to improve the action cross section (η × σn) of high-order multiphoton absorption (MPA) for fundamental research and practical applications. Herein, the core-shell FAPbBr3/CsPbBr3 nanocrystals (NCs) were constructed, and fluorescence induced by up to five-photon absorption was observed. The value of η × σ5 reaches 8.64 × 10-139 cm10 s4 photon-4 nm-3 at 2300 nm, which is nearly an order of magnitude bigger than that of the core-only NCs. It is found that the increased dielectric constant promotes modulation of MPA effects, addressing the electronic distortion in high-order nonlinear behaviors through the local field effect. Meanwhile, the quasi-type-II band alignment suppresses the biexciton Auger recombination, ensuring the stronger MPA induced fluorescence. In addition, the core-shell structure can not only reduce the defect density but also promote the nonradiative energy transfer though the antenna-like effect. This work provides a new avenue for the exploitation of high-performance multiphoton excited nanomaterials for future photonic integration.

RESUMO

Due to the pronounced anisotropic response to circularly polarized light, chiral hybrid organic-inorganic metal halides have been regarded as promising candidates for the application in nonlinear chiroptics, especially for the second-harmonic generation circular dichroism (SHG-CD) effect. However, designing novel lead-free chiral hybrid metal halides with large anisotropy factors and high laser-induced damage thresholds (LDT) of SHG-CD remains challenging. Herein, we develop the first chiral hybrid germanium halide, (R/S-NEA)3 Ge2 I7 ⋅H2 O (R/S-NGI), and systematically investigated its linear and nonlinear chiroptical properties. S-NGI and R-NGI exhibit large anisotropy factors (gSHG-CD ) of 0.45 and 0.48, respectively, along with a high LDT of 38.46 GW/cm2 ; these anisotropy factors were the highest values among the reported lead-free chiral hybrid metal halides. Moreover, the effective second-order nonlinear optical coefficient of S-NGI could reach up to 0.86 pm/V, which was 2.9 times higher than that of commercial Y-cut quartz. Our findings facilitate a new avenue toward lead-free chiral hybrid metal halides, and their implementation in nonlinear chiroptical applications.

RESUMO

Understanding the chiral mechanism of chiral hybrid perovskites is a prerequisite for developing relevant chiroptoelectronic applications. Although conventional circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy can be used to characterize chirality in chiral perovskites, it has a low signal-to-noise ratio and can provide only information about macroscopic chirality. Herein, with the aim of revealing the microscopic chiral mechanism in chiral perovskites, we utilize a spacer cation alloying strategy to construct chiral two-dimensional perovskites. For the first time, we demonstrate second-harmonic-generation CD microarea imaging in chiral perovskite thin films to unveil their spatially correlated chirality. In combination with theoretical calculations, it is revealed that the spatially correlated chirality is caused by localized out-of-plane supramolecular orientations. This work will not only advance the understanding of the mechanism of chiroptical activity in chiral perovskites but also provide inspiration for the rational design and synthesis of perovskites for chirality-related nonlinear optoelectronic devices.

RESUMO

Two-dimensional colloidal CdSe nanoplatelets (NPLs) have been considered as ideal emitting materials for high performance light-emitting devices due to their excellent optical properties. However, the understanding of defect related radiative and nonradiative recombination centers in CdSe NPLs is still far from sufficient, especially their physical distribution locations. In this work, CdSe core and CdSe/CdS core/crown NPLs have been successfully synthesized and their optical properties have been characterized by laser spectroscopies. It is found that the photoluminescence quantum yield of CdSe NPLs is improved by a factor of 4 after the growth of the CdS crown. At low temperatures, the change in the ratio of low and high energy emission intensities from NPLs suggests that the radiative recombination centers are mainly located on the lateral surface of the samples. This finding is further confirmed by the surface passivation experiment. Meanwhile, the nonradiative recombination centers of NPLs located on the lateral surface are also confirmed by ligand exchange. These results demonstrate the importance of understanding the optical properties of the lateral surface of NPLs, which are important for the design of material structures for optoelectronic applications.

RESUMO

Separate relaxation dynamics of electrons and holes in experiments on optical pumping-probing of semiconductors is rarely observed due to their overlap. Here we report the separate relaxation dynamics of long-lived (∼200µs) holes observed at room temperature in a 10 nm thick film of the 3D topological insulator (TI) Bi2Se3coated with a 10 nm thick MgF2layer using transient absorption spectroscopy in the UV-Vis region. The ultraslow hole dynamics was observed by applying resonant pumping of massless Dirac fermions and bound valence electrons in Bi2Se3at a certain wavelength sufficient for their multiphoton photoemission and subsequent trapping at the Bi2Se3/MgF2interface. The emerging deficit of electrons in the film makes it impossible for the remaining holes to recombine, thus causing their ultraslow dynamics measured at a specific probing wavelength. We also found an extremely long rise time (∼600 ps) for this ultraslow optical response, which is due to the large spin-orbit coupling splitting at the valence band maximum and the resulting intervalley scattering between the splitting components. The observed dynamics of long-lived holes is gradually suppressed with decreasing Bi2Se3film thickness for the 2D TI Bi2Se3(film thickness below 6 nm) due to the loss of resonance conditions for multiphoton photoemission caused by the gap opening at the Dirac surface state nodes. This behavior indicates that the dynamics of massive Dirac fermions predominantly determines the relaxation of photoexcited carriers for both the 2D topologically nontrivial and 2D topologically trivial insulator phases.

RESUMO

Developing organic photothermal materials (OPMs) with high photothermal performance for phototheranostic mainly focus on the manipulation of intramolecular nonradiative (intraNR) decay, which often requires quite complicated and time-consuming molecular engineering. In addition to intraNR decay, intermolecular nonradiative (interNR) decay is equally important and more convenient in governing photothermal performance. However, controlling interNR decay remains challenging due to the limited understanding of their origin and dynamics. Here, systemic investigation of intraNR and interNR decay directs the first demonstration of simple manipulation of interNR decay to produce a giant photothermal performance for optimized phototheranostic. Among three designed polymers with varying fluorine substitution, structure-performance studies reveal a dimer-initiated interNR decay to improve photothermal performance. Dimer is formed by intermolecular CF···H hydrogen bond. This finding inspires a simple aggregation control strategy to form excited dimer, namely, excimer. It initiates an ≈100-fold enhancement in interNR decay rate over conventional intraNR decay to produce ultrahigh photothermal conversion efficiency of 81% for efficient photoacoustic imaging-guided photothermal therapy in vivo. This study provides insights into interNR decay in achieving a giant photothermal effect and paves a convenient way to develop high-performance OPMs.

RESUMO

Background: High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) is an inflammatory marker that has been suggested as a predictor of cardiovascular diseases. High glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels and overweight/obesity are independently associated with elevated hs-CRP; meanwhile, high HbA1c levels are frequently accompanied by overweight or obesity. However, their joint effect on elevated hs-CRP levels has not been well-established. Therefore, we evaluated whether overweight/obesity modified the association between high HbA1c levels and elevated hs-CRP. Methods: Based on cross-sectional data from the Chinese Urban Adults Diet and Health Study (CUADHS) in 2016, we included 1,630 adults aged 18-75 years (mean age 50.16 years and 33.6% male). Elevated hs-CRP was defined as serum hs-CRP ≥ 3 and <10 mg/L. The interactive effects of BMI and HbA1c levels on the risk of elevated hs-CRP levels were calculated by using multiple logistic regression models, followed by strata-specific analyses. Results: Individuals with elevated hs-CRP had a higher rate of HbA1c level than those without elevated (25.3 vs. 11.3%, P < 0.001), as well as a higher rate of overweight/obesity (67.1 vs. 43.5%, P < 0.001). Higher HbA1c levels were independently associated with an increased risk of elevated hs-CRP [adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 2.31, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.47, 3.65], as well as overweight/obesity with the risk of elevated hs-CRP (aOR = .31, 95% confidenc-3.73). Furthermore, overweight/obesity showed a significant synergistic effect on high HbA1c levels with a higher aOR of 5.25 (2.77, 9.95) (Pinteraction < 0.001). This synergistic effect was more prominent when stratified by age (in 18-44 years old, aOR, 95% CI = 30.90, 4.40-236.47 for interaction vs. 6.46, 1.38-30.23 for high HbA1c only) and gender (in women, aOR, 95% CI = 8.33, 3.80-18.23 for interaction vs. 2.46,1.38-4.40 for high HbA1c only). Conclusion: There are synergistic effects of high HbA1c levels and overweight/obesity on the risk of elevated hs-CRP in Chinese adults, with more significant effects in adults aged 18-44 years or females. Intervention strategies for preventing high blood glucose levels and body weight simultaneously may be important for reducing hs-CRP-related diseases. Further studies are needed to confirm this finding in other populations, and its molecular mechanisms need to be elucidated.

RESUMO

Water-soluble Ag-doped InP/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) with high photoluminescence quantum yield were synthesized and characterized. Their maximum two- and three-photon absorption cross sections are determined as ∼1.7 × 104 GM at 820 nm and ∼1.7 × 10-76 cm6 s2 photon-2 at 1260 nm. Importantly, for the first time, we demonstrated that Ag-doped InP/ZnS QDs can be used for type-I photodynamic therapy and are more suitable for the hypoxic environment of tumors.

RESUMO

Chiral tellurium nanoparticles have recently garnered tremendous attention as emerging inorganic nanomaterials with intrinsically chiral space groups owing to their potential in next-generation stereosynthesis, spintronics, and optoelectronics. Inspired by the chiral ligand-mediated synthetic strategy, we herein present hydrothermal-assisted synthesis of chiral polyhedral tellurium nanoparticles that provides differed chirogenesis than that of particles fabricated by wet chemistry in recent studies; the thiolated cysteine molecules change the morphology of tellurium nanoparticles from fundamental two-dimensional shapes to chiral three-dimensional polyhedra owing to the screw dislocation effects observed only during nanoparticle growth. However, the nanoparticles do not exhibit chiral behaviors at the nucleation stage. Further investigation indicates that the growth of chiral polyhedral tellurium nanoparticles is overwhelmingly affected by parameters such as the hydrothermal reaction time, amount of polyvinylpyrrolidone, and species of chiral molecules. We believe that these findings can provide new insights into the fundamental relationships among structural chirality, chiral ligands, screw dislocations, and chiral space groups in principle.

RESUMO

Chiral transition metal oxides (TMOs) are widely used in various optoelectronic devices. However, the currently poor understanding of how the optical activities of TMOs can be regulated considerably hinders their applications. We have synthesized a series of chiral TMO nanoparticles (NPs), i.e., MoOx (x = 2, 2.4 and 2.5) and Co3O4. Compared with TMO NPs with L-/D-cysteine molecules as the capping ligand, L-/D-histidine-capped TMO NPs possess larger anisotropic factors (gabs), which are as high as ∼0.01 and ∼0.02 for L-/D-histidine-capped MoO2.5 and Co3O4 NPs, respectively. A nondegenerate coupled oscillator (NDCO) theoretical calculation confirms that L-/D-histidine molecules can generate a smaller electric dipole moment and thus induce higher optical activity than L-/D-cysteine molecules. Impressively, the chiral NPs exhibit broadband second harmonic generation. This work indicates that chiral TMO NPs have potential for application in nonlinear optical devices.

RESUMO

Background: The findings of the association between maternal polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) levels during pregnancy and offspring weight status are controversial. Furthermore, few studies have focused on Asian populations or used erythrocyte membranes as biological markers. We aimed to examine the associations between maternal erythrocyte PUFA and offspring weight status within the first 2 years among the Chinese population. Materials and methods: A total of 607 mother-child pairs were recruited from a birth cohort. Maternal erythrocyte n-3 and n-6 PUFA during pregnancy were measured by gas chromatography, and the ratio of PUFA was calculated. Weight- and body mass index (BMI)-for-age z (WAZ and BAZ) scores were calculated for offspring at 1, 3, 6, 8, 12, 18, and 24 months of age. The risk of overweight and obesity was defined by the WHO criterion. The Generalized Estimating Equation (GEE) model was carried out for repeated anthropometric data within 2 years of age. Results: Maternal erythrocyte docosapentaenoic acid (DPA, n-3) was inversely associated with offspring BAZ score [tertile 2 vs. tertile 1, ß: -0.18 (-0.29, -0.00)]. Higher maternal erythrocyte arachidonic acid (AA) was inversely associated with lower offspring WAZ and BAZ [tertile 3 vs. tertile 1, ß: -0.18 (-0.35, -0.02), -0.22 (-0.38, -0.06), respectively]. Furthermore, higher maternal erythrocyte AA [tertile 3 vs. tertile 1, odds ratio [OR]: 0.52 (0.36, 0.75), p trend < 0.001] and total n-6 PUFA [tertile 3 vs. tertile 1, OR: 0.56 (0.39, 0.81), p trend = 0.002] were associated with decreased risk of overweight and obesity in offspring. Maternal erythrocyte n-6/n-3 PUFA and AA/eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) ratios were not associated with offspring weight status. Conclusion: Maternal erythrocyte PUFA might influence offspring weight status within 2 years of age in the Chinese population. Further Asian studies are still needed.

RESUMO

The successful implementation of perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) in advanced displays and lighting has proven to be challenging because of the inferior performance of blue devices. Here, we point out that a strained system would lead to the quasi-degenerate energy state to enhance the excited-state transition due to the formation of double-polarized transition channel. The tensile strained structure also brings about a synergetic control of the carrier dynamics in virtue of lattice structure deformation and reduced dimensional phase regulation to promote carrier population in large bandgap domains and to realize near-unit energy transfer from the large bandgap phases to the emitter phases. Accordingly, high external quantum efficiencies of 14.71 and 10.11% are achieved for the 488- and 483-nanometer PeLEDs. This work represents a versatile strategy using a strained system to achieve enhanced radiative emission for the development of efficient PeLEDs.

RESUMO

It is often taken for granted that in pump-probe experiments on the topological insulator (TI) Bi2Se3using IR pumping with a commercial Ti:sapphire laser [∼800 nm (1.55 eV photon energy)], the electrons are excited in the one-photon absorption regime, even when pumped with absorbed fluences in the mJ cm-2range. Here, using UV-Vis transient absorption (TA) spectroscopy, we show that even at low-power Infrared (IR) pumping with absorbed fluences in theµJ cm-2range, the TA spectra of the TI Bi2Se3extend across a part of the UV and the entire visible region. This observation suggests unambiguously that the two-photon pumping regime accompanies the usual one-photon pumping regime even at low laser powers applied. We attribute the high efficiency of two-photon pumping to the giant nonlinearity of Dirac fermions in the Dirac surface states (SS). On the contrary, one-photon pumping is associated with the excitation of bound valence electrons in the bulk into the conduction band. Two mechanisms of absorption bleaching were also revealed since they manifest themselves in different spectral regions of probing and cause the appearance of three different relaxation dynamics. These two mechanisms were attributed to the filling of the phase-space in the Dirac SS and bulk states, followed by the corresponding Pauli blocking.
