RESUMO

We report asymmetric allylic alkylation of allylic chloride with ß-diketones as the prochiral carbon nucleophiles using a planar-chiral Cp'Ru catalyst. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions; the resulting chiral products containing vicinal tertiary stereocenters are obtained with high regio-, diastereo-, and enantioselectivities. These chiral products can then be transformed into a chiral diol by controlling the four stereocentres.

RESUMO

A woman in her 60's presented with a tumor of the pancreatic body. Pan-hysterectomy had been performed under a diagnosis of uterine leiomyoma 11 years previously. A sample obtained by endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) revealed the histopathological proliferation of spindle-shaped bundles of atypical cells, and immunohistochemical staining demonstrated that these cells were positive for KIT. Therefore, distal pancreatectomy was performed under a diagnosis of pancreatic gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). Immunohistochemical staining of surgical specimens demonstrated that the tumor cells were positive for desmin and negative for KIT and CD34. The low-grade leiomyosarcoma in pathological specimens of the uterine myoma obtained 11 years previously histologically resembled the pathological findings of the pancreatic specimens except for atypical nuclei and mitotic cells. Therefore, the final diagnosis was extremely rare metastatic leiomyosarcoma of the pancreas. Herein, we report metastasis of uterine leiomyosarcoma to the pancreas and discuss the usefulness and limitations of EUS-FNA.

RESUMO

Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) are an organism that can be confidently recognized by histology. Using histological specimens, we can both identify infection and assess pathological condition associated with H. pylori. For the precise diagnosis, biopsies should be taken from suitable sites(greater curvature of antrum and corpus) and the valuable requirements are to recognize several pathologic findings of H. pylori--infected gastric mucosa(epithelial changes and neutrophilic infiltration together with mononuclear cell infiltration) and to use special staining methods for H. pylori(i.e. Giemsa staining, Gimenez staining, silver staining, and immunostaining) in addition to HE staining.
