RESUMO

Glioma is the most common type of primary brain tumour which accounts for about 30% of all brain and central nervous system tumours, and approximately 70% of adult malignant brain tumours. Numerous studies have been performed to assess the relationship between ERCC2 rs13181 polymorphism and the risk of glioma development, yet these findings of these studies are often inconsistent and contradictory. Therefore, the aim of this study is to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the role of ERCC2 rs13181 in glioma developing. In this work, we have conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis. In order to collect the results of relevant studies on the association of ERCC2 rs13181 gene polymorphism with glioma, we initially searched the Scopus, Embase, Web of Science (WoS), PubMed, and ScienceDirect databases, without a lower time limit, and until June 2020. In order to analyse the eligible studies, the random effects model was used and the heterogeneity of the studies was investigated with the I 2 index. Data analysis was performed within the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software (version 2). The total number of studies that focused on patients with glioma was 10. The odds ratio of GG vs TT genotype in patients with glioma based on meta-analysis was 1.08 (0.85-1.37: 95% confidence interval), which indicates the increasing effect of GG vs TT genotype by 0.08. The odds ratio of GG + TG vs TT genotype in patients with glioma was 1.22 (1.38-1.7: 95% confidence interval) based on meta-analysis, which indicates the increasing effect of GG + TG vs TT genotype as 0.22. The odds ratio of TG vs TT genotype in patients with glioma was 1.2 (0.38-1.4: 95% confidence interval), which shows the increasing effect of TG vs TT genotype by 0.2. The odds ratio of G vs T genotype in patients with glioma based on the meta-analysis was 1.15 (1.26-1.4: 95% confidence interval), which indicates the increasing effect of G vs T genotype by 0.15. The odds ratio of GG vs TG + TT genotype in patients with glioma based on meta-analysis was 1.22 (1.33-1.45: 95% confidence interval), which indicates the increasing effect of GG vs TG + TT genotype by 0.22. The results of this systematic review and meta-analysis show that ERCC2 rs13181 polymorphism and its genotypes are an important risk factor for genetic susceptibility to glioma tumour.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common disorder that is known to be the leading cause of chronic liver disease worldwide. This study aims to systematically review and meta-analyze the association between PNPLA3 rs738409 polymorphism and non-alcoholic fatty liver. METHODS: Following a systematic review and meta-analysis method, articles without any time limitation, were extracted from SID, MagIran, IranDoc, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science (WoS), PubMed and ScienceDirect international databases. Random effects model was used for analysis, and heterogeneity of studies was investigated considering the I2 index and using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software. RESULTS: The odds ratio of CC genotype in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver demonstrates the protective effect of CC genotype with the ratio of 0.52, whereas CG genotype presents an increasing effect of CG genotype with the ratio of 0.19, and GG genotype also showed an increasing effect of GG genotype with the ratio of 1.05. Moreover, CG + GG genotypes as a single group demostrated an odds rartio of 0.88. CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis highlights that people with CC genotype has 52% lower chance of developing non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and those with CG genotype had 19% higher risk of developing non-alcoholic fatty liver. Those with GG genotype were 105% more likely to develop non-alcoholic fatty liver than others. Moreover, those present in a population with CG + GG genotypes were 88% more likely to have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Hydatidosis is a zoonotic disease and has a great general and economic health importance in both developed and developing countries. Therefore, this systematic and meta-analytic study was conducted to determine the prevalence of cystic echinococcosis in slaughtered livestock in Iran. METHODS: The present study was conducted as a systematic review and meta-analysis. The SID & Magiran, MEDLINE (PubMed), ScienceDirect, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases were searched with a view to selecting relevant research works. As a result, 31 articles published from April 1970 to April 2020 were selected. The heterogeneity of the studies was assessed using the I2 index. Data analysis was conducted within the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software (CMA) v.3.0 (Biostat, Englewood, NJ, USA) and Arc map (ArcGIS 10.3) software. RESULTS: The heterogeneity of the studies was evaluated using the I2 test which value was 99% showing a high heterogeneity in the studies. The results of publication bias in studies were evaluated by the Egger test, which were not statistically significant (P = 0.144). The overall prevalence of cystic echinococcosis in slaughtered livestock in Iran is 13.9% (95%CI: 10.7-17.7%). The results of the meta-regression analysis indicate the increasing trend of the hydatid cyst prevalence with the increase of sample size and publication year (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: According to the results of this study and the relatively high prevalence of cystic echinococcosis in slaughtered livestock in Iran, health policy makers should make effective decisions in this regard, and implement careful inspections and interventions by experts and health authorities.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Placenta previa describes a placenta that extends partially or completely over the internal cervical oss. Placenta previa is one of the leading causes of widespread postpartum hemorrhage and maternal mortality worldwide. Another cause of bleeding in pregnant women is Placenta accreta spectrum. Therefore, the aim of the present systematic review and meta-analysis is to determine the effect of prophylactic balloon occlusion of the internal iliac arteries in patients with placenta previa or placental accreta spectrum (PAS). METHODS: In this systematic review and meta-analysis, to identify and select relevant studies, the SID, MagIran, ScienceDirect, Embase, Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases were searched, using the keywords of internal iliac artery balloon, placenta, previa, balloon, accreta, increta and percreta, without a lower time limit and until 2020. The heterogeneity of the studies was examined using the I2 index, and subsequently a random effects model was applied. Data analysis was performed within the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software (version 2). RESULTS: In the review of 29 articles with a total sample size of 1140 in the control group, and 1225 in the balloon occlusion group, the mean difference between the two groups was calculated in terms of Intraoperative blood loss index (mL) and it was derived as 3.21 ± 0.38; moreover, in 15 studies with a sample size of 887 in the control group, and 760 in the balloon occlusion group, the mean difference between the two groups in terms of gestation index (weeks) was found as 2.84 ± 0.49; and also with regards to hysterectomy balloon occlusion after prophylactic closure of the iliac artery, hysterectomy (%) balloon occlusion was calculated as 8.9 %, and this, in the hysterectomy control group (%) was obtained as 31.2 %; these differences were statistically significant and showed a positive effect of the intervention (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The results of this study show that the use of prophylactic internal iliac artery balloon occlusion in patients with placenta previa or Placenta accreta spectrum has benefits such as reduced intraoperative blood loss, reduced hysterectomy and increased gestation (weeks), which can be considered by midwives and obstetricians.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Physical activity and exercise are among the most important, simplest, and cheapest approaches to anxiety treatment, especially for the elderly. Their positive effects on improvement of mental disorders in the elderly have attracted a considerable level of attention. Therefore, the present study was conducted to determine the effect of sport on reducing anxiety in the elderly using meta-analysis. METHODS: In this study, national and international databases of SID, MagIran, IranMedex, IranDoc, Cochrane, Embase, ScienceDirect, Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science were searched to find studies published electronically from 1999 to 2019. Heterogeneity between the collected studies was determined using the Cochran's test (Q) and I2. Due to presence of heterogeneity, the random effects model was used to estimate the standardized mean difference of sport test scores obtained from the measurement of anxiety reduction among the elderly, between the intervention group before and after the test. RESULTS: In this meta-analysis and systematic review, 19 papers finally met the inclusion criteria. The overall sample size of all collected studies for the meta-analysis was 841 s. Mean anxiety score before and after intervention were 38.7 ± 5.6 33.7 ± 3.4 respectively, denoting a decrease in anxiety score after intervention. CONCLUSION: Results of this study indicates that Sport significantly reduces Anxiety in the Elderly. Therefore, a regular exercise program can be considered as a part of the elderly care program.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Opioids addiction and misuse are among the major problems in the world today. There have been several preliminary studies examining the effect of methadone on depression among addicts, however, these studies have reported inconsistent and even contradictory results. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to determine the effect of methadone on depression in addicts in Iran and around the world, using a meta-analysis approach. METHODS: This study was a systematic review and meta-analysis including articles published in the SID, MagIran, IranMedex, IranDoc, Cochrane, Embase, ScienceDirect, Scopus, PubMed and Web of Science databases were searched systematically to find articles published from 2006 to March 2019. Heterogeneity index was determined using the Cochran's test (Qc) and I2. Considering heterogeneity of studies, the random effects model was used to estimate the standardized difference of mean score for depression. Subsequently, the level of depression reduction in Iran and worldwide in the intervention group before and after the testwas measured. RESULTS: A total of 19 articles met the inclusion criteria, and were therefore selected for this systematic review and meta-analysis. The sample size of the intervention group in the selected studies was 1948. According to the meta-analysis results, the mean depression score in the intervention group was 26.4 ± 5.6 and 18.4 ± 2.6 before and after intervention respectively, indicating the reducing effect of methadone on depression, and this difference was statistically significant (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: The results of the present study show that methadone significantly reduces depression in addicts. Therefore, regular methadone use can be part of a drug treatment plan.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: In all epidemics, healthcare staff are at the centre of risks and damages caused by pathogens. Today, nurses and physicians are faced with unprecedented work pressures in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in several psychological disorders such as stress, anxiety and sleep disturbances. The aim of this study is to investigate the prevalence of sleep disturbances in hospital nurses and physicians facing the COVID-19 patients. METHOD: A systematic review and metanalysis was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA criteria. The PubMed, Scopus, Science direct, Web of science, CINHAL, Medline, and Google Scholar databases were searched with no lower time-limt and until 24 June 2020. The heterogeneity of the studies was measured using I2 test and the publication bias was assessed by the Egger's test at the significance level of 0.05. RESULTS: The I2 test was used to evaluate the heterogeneity of the selected studies, based on the results of I2 test, the prevalence of sleep disturbances in nurses and physicians is I2: 97.4% and I2: 97.3% respectively. After following the systematic review processes, 7 cross-sectional studies were selected for meta-analysis. Six studies with the sample size of 3745 nurses were examined in and the prevalence of sleep disturbances was approximated to be 34.8% (95% CI: 24.8-46.4%). The prevalence of sleep disturbances in physicians was also measured in 5 studies with the sample size of 2123 physicians. According to the results, the prevalence of sleep disturbances in physicians caring for the COVID-19 patients was reported to be 41.6% (95% CI: 27.7-57%). CONCLUSION: Healthcare workers, as the front line of the fight against COVID-19, are more vulnerable to the harmful effects of this disease than other groups in society. Increasing workplace stress increases sleep disturbances in the medical staff, especially nurses and physicians. In other words, increased stress due to the exposure to COVID-19 increases the prevalence of sleep disturbances in nurses and physicians. Therefore, it is important for health policymakers to provide solutions and interventions to reduce the workplace stress and pressures on medical staff.

RESUMO

BACKGROUD: Prevalence of skin lesions among diabetic patients is a major health concern. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis study was conducted to determine the prevalence of skin lesions in diabetic patients. METHODS: To identify and select relevant articles, the SID, MagIran, IranMedex, IranDoc, Google Scholar, Cochrane, Embase, ScienceDirect, Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science (WoS) databases were searched without a lower time limit and until April 2020. The random effects model was used to perform the analysis, and the heterogeneity of studies was assessed using the I2 index. Data were analyzed within the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (Version 2) software. RESULTS: After evaluating the 22 final articles with a total sample size of 8406, the prevalence of skin lesions among diabetes patients were found as 70.3% (95% CI: 63-76.7%). Moreover, according to the meta-regression analysis, the effect of 'sample size' on th prevalence of skin lesions was significantly different in diabetes patients (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The results of this study show that skin lesions are common in diabetes patients. Therefore, appropriate policies needs to be adopted to improve the situation and to monitor patients and outcomes at all levels.
