RESUMO

Calcium titanium oxide has emerged as a highly promising material for optoelectronic devices, with recent studies suggesting its potential for favorable thermoelectric properties. However, current experimental observations indicate a low thermoelectric performance, with a significant gap between these observations and theoretical predictions. Therefore, this study employs a combined approach of experiments and simulations to thoroughly investigate the impact of structural and directional differences on the thermoelectric properties of two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) metal halide perovskites. Two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) metal halide perovskites constitute the focus of examination in this study, where an in-depth exploration of their thermoelectric properties is conducted via a comprehensive methodology incorporating simulations and experimental analyses. The non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulation (NEMD) was utilized to calculate the thermal conductivity of the perovskite material. Thermal conductivities along both in-plane and out-plane directions of 2D perovskite were computed. The NEMD simulation results show that the thermal conductivity of the 3D perovskite is approximately 0.443 W/mK, while the thermal conductivities of the parallel and vertical oriented 2D perovskites increase with n and range from 0.158 W/mK to 0.215 W/mK and 0.289 W/mK to 0.309 W/mK, respectively. Hence, the thermal conductivity of the 2D perovskites is noticeably lower than the 3D ones. Furthermore, the parallel oriented 2D perovskites exhibit more effective blocking of heat transfer behavior than the perpendicular oriented ones. The experimental results reveal that the Seebeck coefficient of the 2D perovskites reaches 3.79 × 102 µV/K. However, the electrical conductivity of the 2D perovskites is only 4.55 × 10-5 S/cm, which is one order of magnitude lower than that of the 3D perovskites. Consequently, the calculated thermoelectric figure of merit for the 2D perovskites is approximately 1.41 × 10-7, slightly lower than that of the 3D perovskites.

In this study, we analyze the influences of carbon nanotube (CNT) addition on the martensite transformation and internal friction of Cu-Al-Ni shape-memory alloys (SMAs). X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry results demonstrate that Cu-13.5Al-4Ni-xCNT (x = 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, and 0.8 wt%) SMA/CNT composites exhibit a [Formula: see text] martensitic transformation. The martensitic transformation temperatures and transformation enthalpies of the martensitic transformation peaks for the Cu-13.5Al-4Ni-xCNT (x = 0-0.8 wt%) composites gradually decrease with the increase in the amount of CNT addition. Compared to the Cu-13.5Al-4Ni SMA, the Cu-13.5Al-4Ni-xCNT (x = 0.2-0.8 wt%) SMA/CNT composites exhibit significant improvements in the amount of dissipation of energy (storage modulus ([Formula: see text] and mechanical strength. However, the tan δ of the internal friction peak gradually decreases with the increase in the CNT content above 0.6 wt%. The reduction in tan δ is attributed to the decrease in the magnitude of the austenite-to-martensite transformation and precipitation of γ2 (Cu9Al4) phase particles, which impede the interface motion in between the parent/martensitic phase and martensitic phase.

We investigated whether the upper limb muscle stiffness quantified by the acoustic radiation force impulse shear wave elastography (ARFI/SWE) is a potential biomarker for age-related muscle alteration and functional decline in patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). 37 patients with DMD and 30 typically developing controls (TDC) were grouped by age (3-8, 9-11, and 12-18 years). ARFI/SWE measured the biceps and deltoid muscle's shear wave velocities (SWVs). Performance of Upper Limb Module (PUL 1.2 module) assessed muscle function in DMD patients. Mann Whitney test compared muscle SWVs between DMD and TDC, stratified by three age groups. We used analysis of variance with Bonferroni correction to compare muscle SWVs between DMD and TDC and correlated muscle SWVs with PUL results in the DMD group. Results showed that the SWVs of biceps differentiated DMD patients from TDC across age groups. Younger DMD patients (3-8 years) exhibited higher SWVs (p = 0.013), but older DMD patients (12-18 years) showed lower SWVS (p = 0.028) than same-aged TDC. DMD patients had decreasing biceps SWVs with age (p < 0.001), with no such age effect in TDC. The SWVs of deltoid and biceps positively correlated with PUL scores (r = 0.527 âˆ¼ 0.897, P < 0.05) and negatively correlated with PUL timed measures (r = -0.425 âˆ¼ -0.542, P < 0.05) in DMD patients. Our findings suggest that ARFI/SWE quantifying the SWVs in upper limb muscle could be a potential biomarker to differentiate DMD from TDC across ages and that DMD patients showed age-related muscle alteration and limb functional decline.

BACKGROUND: Vaccine equity has been a major concern during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the principle of vaccine equity, donor countries should apply the criterion of needs to make decisions about vaccine donation instead of considering recipient countries' economic status. We examine whether people follow the same criterion or consider other factors to decide which country to donate vaccines and how many vaccines should be delivered. METHODS: We conducted online surveys with the design of conjoint experiment in the United States and Taiwan in 2021. 1,532 American citizens and 1,587 Taiwanese citizens were interviewed. The respondents were broadly quota-matched to their respective demographic proportions on the dimensions of age, gender, and education. We estimated the average marginal component effects (AMCEs) of the conjoint attributes by using the OLS regression models with standard errors clustered at the respondent level. RESULTS: 15,320 and 15,870 decisions on vaccine donation generated by conjoint experiment respectively in the United States and Taiwan were included in the analysis. Both American and Taiwanese people tend to donate vaccines to countries that suffer severe consequences of COVID-19 and democracies compared to authoritarian countries. However, they are less willing to donate vaccines to those with higher levels of capability in response to COVID-19. Taiwanese people tend to donate vaccines to countries having formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan (AMCE 13.4%, 95% CI 11.8%-15.1%). Nonetheless, American people would rather donate vaccines to countries without formal diplomatic relations with the United States (AMCE - 4.0%, 95% CI -5.6%--2.4%). CONCLUSIONS: The findings reveal that politics plays a significant role in people's decisions about vaccine donation. Under electoral pressure, political leaders must think about how to respond to the public's preferences over vaccine donation to achieve vaccine equity and address the global health crisis.

BACKGROUND: Liver cancer is ranked fifth in incidence and second in mortality among cancers in Taiwan. Nevertheless, the Taiwan government does not screen for liver cancer in its free cancer screening and preventive health examination service. This study compared the differences in cancer stage and survival between patients who received an initial liver cancer diagnosis in outpatient departments (OPDs) and those who received such a diagnosis in emergency departments (EDs). METHODS: This retrospective cohort study used the 2000-2016 National Health Insurance Database to obtain a sample from 2 million Taiwanese residents. To evaluate the effect of the utilization of the adult health examination offered to people aged ≥ 40 years, patients aged ≥ 40 years who received an initial liver cancer diagnosis between 2003 and 2015 were followed up until December 31, 2016. RESULTS: In total, 2,881 patients were included in this study. A greater proportion of cancer cases in the OPD group were non-advanced than those in the ED group (75.26% vs. 54.23%). Having stage C or D cancer, having a low monthly salary, and a Charlson comorbidity index score ≥ 8, not having hepatitis B, being divorced, and attending a non-public hospital as the primary care institution were risk factors for initial ED diagnosis. The risk of liver cancer-specific death among the ED group patients was 1.38 times that among the OPD group patients (adjusted hazard ratio = 1.38, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.14-1.68, P < 0.001). However, the use of health examination did not exert a significant effect on the likelihood of liver cancer diagnosis in an ED (adjusted odds ratio = 0.86, 95% CI = 0.61-1.21, P = 0.381). CONCLUSION: Government-subsidized health examinations are insufficient to prevent first-ever diagnosed liver cancers in EDs. Patients with liver cancers diagnosed in EDs had a higher risk of advanced stage and mortality. For early detection and treatment, the government may consider implementing liver cancer screening for high-risk and low-socioeconomic people.

Previous evidence suggests that bisphosphonates may improve glycemic control. The present meta-analysis, comprising seven studies with 1,233,844 participants, demonstrated that bisphosphonate use was significantly associated with a lower risk of diabetes. However, in the randomized controlled trial subgroup, a non-significant association was found. Further studies are needed to determine causality. PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of bisphosphonates on glycemic control and the risk of incident diabetes. METHODS: MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane Library were searched from inception to February 15, 2022. Experimental or observational studies that compared fasting blood glucose (FBG) and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels and the diabetes risk with and without bisphosphonates were included. Studies without relevant outcomes, only providing crude estimates, or the absence of a control group were excluded. Two reviewers independently screened the articles, extracted data, and appraised studies. The pooled relative risk (RR) and weighted mean difference (WMD) were calculated using random effects models. RESULTS: Seven studies (n = 1,233,844) on diabetes risk were included, including two post hoc analyses of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and five observational studies. Compared with controls, bisphosphonates (BPs) were associated with a significant decrease in the risk of diabetes (RR = 0.77; 95% CI, 0.65 to 0.90; P = 0.002). However, in the subgroup of post hoc analyses of RCTs, the association was non-significant (RR = 0.93; 95% CI, 0.74 to 1.18; P = 0.576). Moreover, three studies (n = 4906) on FBG and one (n = 60) on HbA1c were included. We observed non-significant association between BPs and changes in FBG (WMD = - 0.61 mg/dL; 95% CI, - 2.72 to 1.49; P = 0.567) and HbA1c (WMD = - 0.11%; 95% CI, - 0.23 to 0.01; P = 0.083). CONCLUSION: Patients taking BPs may have a lower risk of incident diabetes than those without BPs. However, due to the high between-study heterogeneity and inconsistent findings between post hoc analyses of RCTs and observational studies, further rigorous RCTs are required to determine whether the findings are causal.

INTRODUCTION: Fluid overload is an unavoidable problem in patients on peritoneal dialysis (PD) and is associated with poor outcomes. The aim of our study was to estimate ultrafiltration (UF) under different dextrose concentrations (DCs) and four peritoneal transport levels. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 70 patients, with a total of 1,848 daily treatment records and 8,266 single dwells on automated PD (APD) through Homechoice Claria with Sharesource were followed in October 2020 and categorized into two groups according to the DC (D1.5% and D2.5% groups). Baseline characteristics, peritoneal membrane characteristics, and daily PD treatment records from Sharesource were obtained. We compared UF under the different conditions. RESULTS: The mean night UF per cycle, the mean night UF corrected by fill volume (FV) per cycle, and the mean night UF corrected by FV and dwelling time (DT) per cycle were all significantly higher in the D2.5% group than in the D1.5% group (95.8 vs. 220.3 mL, 5.5 vs. 12.0%, and 5.0 vs. 11.6 0/000/minutes, all p < 0.001). However, there was no significant difference among the four transport categories in any group. CONCLUSION: This retrospective study presents precise UF measurements with two solutions at different DCs and four peritoneal transport levels. With a 2-L indwell (DT ranging from ~ 1 to 3 hours), the mean net UF rate was 1.0 mL/min in the D1.5% group and 2.3 mL/min in the D2.5% group.

Disasters affect the well-being of individuals, families and communities. Health and social care providers are essential in response and recovery efforts and are among the most vulnerable to negative physical and mental health impacts of a disaster. Few evidence-based interventions are available to address the psychological needs of providers. The aim of this study was to examine the psychological distress of health and social care providers before and after participating in the brief group intervention, Resilience and Coping for the Healthcare Community (RCHC) and its expanded version, RCHC+. We conducted a pragmatic non-randomised cluster trial with 762 health and social care providers in south Texas and Puerto Rico post-Hurricanes Harvey and Maria. Participants completed surveys assessing post-traumatic stress (PTSD), anxiety, burnout and secondary traumatic stress (STS) prior to intervention delivery and at two time points post-intervention. We calculated the frequency of symptom cut-off scores at baseline, then estimated multilevel ordinal models to examine changes in symptoms across time. Prior to participation in the RCHC (approximately 12 months after the hurricanes), providers reported high levels of PTSD, anxiety and STS symptoms. After participation, providers in both intervention conditions reported a significant reduction in PTSD symptoms from baseline that was sustained over both time points. The likelihood of a reduction in symptoms of anxiety and STS from baseline was sustained at both time points for participants in the RCHC+ condition. These findings indicate that both the RCHC and RCHC+ interventions may reduce psychological distress for health and social care providers and could be an important part of advance planning to support provider's mental health during and after a disaster. Further examination of the RCHC in other disaster contexts could provide additional insight into the responsiveness of the intervention to reducing psychological distress symptoms.

Aortic stiffness (AS) is a major predictor of cardiovascular disease and mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and adipocyte fatty acid-binding protein (A-FABP) is a novel adipokine that is positively correlated with AS in the general population. Therefore, we investigated the correlation between serum A-FABP levels and AS in nondialysis CKD patients. Fasting blood samples and baseline characteristics were obtained in 270 patients with nondialysis CKD. Serum A-FABP concentrations were determined by enzyme immunoassay and carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cfPWV) measurements were acquired using a validated tonometry system. Patients with cfPWV >10 m/s formed the AS group, while those with values ≤10 m/s comprised the comparison group. Among 270 CKD patients, 92 patients (34.1%) were in the AS group. Compared to those in the comparison group, patients in the AS group were older (P < .001), had a higher prevalence of diabetes, along with higher serum A-FABP level (P < .001), larger waist circumference (P = .004), and lower estimated glomerular filtration rate (P = .001) but higher levels of body fat mass (P = .010), systolic blood pressure (P < .001), fasting glucose (P = .014), blood urea nitrogen (P = .009), and serum creatinine (P = .004). The serum log-A-FABP level was positively associated with log-cfPWV (ß = 0.178, P = .001) in nondialysis CKD patients and multivariable logistic regression analysis identified serum A-FABP (P = .006), age (P = .001), and systolic blood pressure (P = .015) as independent predictors of AS in nondialysis-dependent CKD patients. Elevated A-FABP levels may be a significant predictor of AS in nondialysis CKD patients.

The elimination of intracellular components by autophagy maintains metabolic homeostasis and is a quality-control pathway that enables organelle regeneration. Mitophagy is a type of selective autophagy that regulates mitochondrial turnover, and the dysregulation of mitophagy has been implicated in the pathogenesis of liver diseases. However, the detailed molecular mechanism underlying mitophagy regulation in liver cells remains unclear, and the small molecules that may potentially modulate hepatic mitophagy are still unavailable. Here, we report that baicalein, a flavonoid extracted from Scutellaria baicalensis, induces the entire autophagy that proceeds through the autolysosome maturation stage in human hepatoma cells. In addition, baicalein-induced autophagy is demonstrated to target mitochondria for degradation. Further studies show that baicalein triggers the translocation of Parkin and TBK1 to mitochondria to induce mitophagy. Moreover, the phosphorylation of TBK1 at Ser172 and ubiquitin at Ser65 is shown to trigger mitophagy in baicalein-treated cells. Furthermore, two specific autophagy cargo receptors, NDP52 and OPTN, that function in baicalein-activated mitophagy are identified. Taken together, these findings not only delineate the molecular process of Parkin-dependent mitophagy in liver cells, but also reveal baicalein as a novel inducer of hepatic mitophagy.

This study investigates the effects of Rb doping on the Rb-formamidinium-methylammonium-PbI3 based perovskite photodetectors. Rb was incorporated in the perovskite films with different contents, and the corresponding photo-response properties were studied. Doping of few Rb (~2.5%) was found to greatly increase the grain size and the absorbance of the perovskite. However, when the Rb content was greater than 2.5%, clustering of the Rb-rich phases emerged, the band gap decreased, and additional absorption band edge was found. The excess Rb-rich phases were the main cause that degraded the performance of the photodetectors. By space charge limit current analyses, the Rb was found to passivate the defects in the perovskite, lowering the leakage current and reducing the trap densities of carriers. This fact was used to explain the increase in the detectivity. To clarify the effect of Rb, the photovoltaic properties were measured. Similarly, h perovskite with 2.5% Rb doping increased the short-circuit current, revealing the decline of the internal defects. The 2.5% Rb doped photodetector showed the best performance with responsivity of 0.28 AW-1 and ~50% quantum efficiency. Detectivity as high as 4.6 × 1011 Jones was obtained, owing to the improved crystallinity and reduced defects.

Research indicates that network structure affects the diffusion of a single behavior. However, in many social settings, two or more behaviors may compete for adoption, as in the case of religious competition, social movements and counter-movements, or conflicting rumors. Lessons from one-behavior diffusion cannot be easily applied because the outcome can take the form of one-behavior domination, two behaviors splitting the network, both behaviors occupying a small fraction of the network, or no diffusion. This article tests how three well-known factors of single-behavior diffusion - network transitivity, adoption threshold, and connectedness of early adopters - apply to scenarios of competitive diffusion. Results show that minor differences in initial adopter size tend to magnify, creating a significant "head-start advantage." Nevertheless, the degree of this advantage depends on the interaction between network transitivity, adoption threshold, and connectedness of initial adopters. The article describes the conditions under which countervailing ties may (or may not) create inequality in behavioral diffusion.

OBJECTIVES: This study examines gang group processes on the digital street to understand if gang processes in the online environment mimic those on geographic street corners. Specifically, this paper examines what conditions influence whether gangs interact negatively or positively in online spaces and how online interactions relate to geographic proximity of gangs. METHODS: This study uses digital trace data web scraped from a public Facebook about Chicago Latina/o gangs combined with geographic locations of gang territories. Negative binomial regression models are used to investigate the conditions under which gangs interact with one another. RESULTS: This study finds that interactions among gangs are conditional on the type of post displayed and negative gang interactions in online spaces are moderately correlated with geographic proximity. CONCLUSIONS: The tendency to show identification with the gang group or hostility to rival groups is not always evident. Rather, interactions are contextualized in the situation of the online environment. In addition, in our sample geographic proximity is not a primary condition of gang interactions. The digital street enables gang members to interact with other gangs in faraway locales and individuals in close geographic proximity. We find gang members take the opportunity to interact with both groups.

The medicinal fungus Ganoderma lucidum is used as a dietary supplement and health tonic, but whether it affects longevity remains unclear. We show here that a water extract of G. lucidum mycelium extends lifespan of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans. The G. lucidum extract reduces the level of fibrillarin (FIB-1), a nucleolar protein that correlates inversely with longevity in various organisms. Furthermore, G. lucidum treatment increases expression of the autophagosomal protein marker LGG-1, and lifespan extension is abrogated in mutant C. elegans strains that lack atg-18, daf-16, or sir-2.1, indicating that autophagy and stress resistance pathways are required to extend lifespan. In cultured human cells, G. lucidum increases concentrations of the LGG-1 ortholog LC3 and reduces levels of phosphorylated mTOR, a known inhibitor of autophagy. Notably, low molecular weight compounds (<10 kDa) isolated from the G. lucidum water extract prolong lifespan of C. elegans and the same compounds induce autophagy in human cells. These results suggest that G. lucidum can increase longevity by inducing autophagy and stress resistance.

The links of air pollutants to health hazards have been revealed in literature and inflammation responses might play key roles in the processes of diseases. WBC count is one of the indexes of inflammation, however the l iterature reveals inconsistent opinions on the relationship between WBC counts and exposure to air pollutants. The goal of this population-based observational study was to examine the associations between multiple air pollutants and WBC counts. This study recruited community subjects from Kaohsiung city. WBC count, demographic and health hazard habit data were collected. Meanwhile, air pollutants data (SO2, NO2, CO, PM10, and O3) were also obtained. Both datasets were merged for statistical analysis. Single- and multiple-pollutants models were adopted for the analysis. A total of 10,140 adults (43.2% males; age range, 33~86 years old) were recruited. Effects of short-term ambient concentrations (within one week) of CO could increase counts of WBC, neutrophils, monocytes, and lymphocytes. However, SO2 could decrease counts of WBC, neutrophils, and monocytes. Gender, BMI, and smoking could also contribute to WBC count increases, though their effects are minor when compared to CO. Air pollutants, particularly SO2, NO2 and CO, may thus be related to alterations of WBC counts, and this would imply air pollution has an impact on human systematic inflammation.

The Syrian crisis has had a devastating impact on displaced populations and among host communities in neighboring countries such as Jordan. Many of these individuals are at risk for non-communicable diseases (NCD) and mental health disorders, yet do not have access to services designed to manage or prevent these conditions. The purpose of this study was to examine the efficacy of a non-communicable disease (NCD) awareness educational intervention and an integrated NCD and mental health education intervention on reducing cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk among Jordanians and displaced Syrians. This natural experiment study was conducted in three health centers in Irbid, Jordan with 213 Syrian participants and 382 Jordanians. Participants were assigned to one of three study conditions: the Healthy Community Clinic (HCC), a non-communicable disease educational intervention; the HCC with added mental health awareness sessions; standard healthcare. CVD risk factors were assessed at baseline, 12 and 18 months. The HCC education group yielded significant improvements in three CVD risk factors including: body mass index (BMI) -1.91 (95% CI: -2.09, -1.73); systolic blood pressure (SBP) -12.80 mmHg (95% CI: -16.35, -9.25); and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) -5.78 mmHg (95% CI: -7.96, -3.60) compared to standard care. The HCC-mental health treatment arm also demonstrated significant improvements in BMI, SBP, and DBP compared to standard care. Significant improvements in fasting blood glucose -20.32 (CI: -28.87, -11.77) and HbA1c -0.43 (-0.62, -0.24) were also illustrated in the HCC-mental health treatment arm. The HCC-mental health group sustained greater reductions in CVD risk than the HCC education group at 18-months. This study is among the first to our knowledge illustrating an integrated health and mental health educational intervention can reduce CVD risk among Syrian refugees and Jordanians. Continued investment and research in CVD prevention interventions is needed to enhance health, reduce costs, and have lasting benefits for conflict-affected individuals and communities.

OBJECTIVES: This study examined the mediating or moderating relationship of social health on physical health and post-traumatic stress symptoms among displaced Syrians and Jordanians at high risk for physical and mental health ailments. Frequency of mental health symptoms stratified by demographic factors was also explored. We hypothesized social health would mediate and/or moderate the relationship between physical and post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS). METHODS: This cross-sectional study includes 598 adults between 18 and 75 years old recruited from three health centers in the city of Irbid, Jordan, 20 km away from the Syrian border. Post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) were measured through the primary care post-traumatic stress disorder checklist. Physical and social health were assessed through the Duke Health Profile. One-way ANOVA and independent samples T-tests examined mean scores of social health, PTSS, physical health stratified by age, gender, nationality, education level, and trauma exposure. Bivariate correlations explored the relationship between social health, PTSS, and physical health. PROCESS macro tested social health as a moderator and mediator on the association of the physical health and PTSS. RESULTS: Social health moderated and mediated the relationship between physical health and PTSS. Males reported (t = 2.53, p < .05) better physical health scores than females. Those who had less than a high school education reported lower social health (F = 13.83, p < .001); higher PTSS (F = 5.83, p < .001); and lower physical health (F = 5.76, p < .01) than more educated individuals. Syrians reported significantly higher PTSS (F = 4.13, p < .05) than Jordanians, however, there was no significant differences between nationality for physical or social health. Social health was positively associated with better physical health (r = 0.10, p < .01) and negatively with PTSS (r = -.293, p < .01). CONCLUSIONS: Our results support our primary hypothesis suggesting social health mediates and moderates PTSS and physical health. Secondary findings illustrate gender, educational, and income differences in physical health and PTSS. CLINICAL TRIALS REGISTRY: NCT03721848.

: In this study, a glass/indium tin oxide (ITO)/formamidinium-methylammonium-cesium (FA-MA-Cs) tri-cation lead iodide perovskite/poly(methyl methacrylate (PMMA)/Al memory device with a controlled composition of (FA0.75MA0.25)1-xCsxPbI3 (x = 0-0.1) is demonstrated to exhibit bipolar resistive switching behavior. The tri-cation organic-inorganic metal halide perovskite film was prepared by a one-step solution process in which the amount of Cs was varied to modify the property of FA0.75MA0.25PbI3. It was found that the microstructure and defect properties of films are highly dependent on the contents of FA, MA, and Cs in the perovskite. The results found that 5% CsI doping is the optimized condition for improving the quality of FA0.75MA0.25PbI3, forming a high quality tri-cation perovskite film with a smooth, uniform, stable and robust crystalline grain structure. The resistive switching on/off ratio of the (FA0.75MA0.25)0.95Cs0.05PbI3 device is greater than 103 owing to the improved thin-film quality. Moreover, for the 5% CsI doped FA0.75MA0.25PbI3 films, the endurance and the stability of retention are better than the non-doped film. The improved microstructure and memory properties are attributed to the balance stress of FA/MA/Cs with different ionic size. It suggests the potential to achieve a desired resistive memory property of tri-cationic perovskite by carefully adjusting the cation ratios.

Pulmonary administration is a noninvasive drug delivery method that, in contrast to systemic administration, reduces drug dosage and possible side effects. Numerous testing models, such as impingers and impactors, have previously been developed to evaluate the fate of inhaled drugs. However, such models are limited by the lack of information regarding several factors, such as pulmonary morphology and breathing motion, which are required to fully interpret actual inhaled-drug deposition profiles within the human respiratory tract. In this study, a spontaneous breathing-lung model that integrates branched morphology and deformable alveolar features was constructed using a multilayered fabrication technology to mimic the complex environment of the human lower respiratory tract. The developed model could emulate cyclic and spontaneous breathing motions to inhale and exhale aerosols generated by a nebulizer under diseaselike conditions. Results of this research demonstrate that aerosols (4.2 µm) could reach up to the deeper lung regions (generation 19 of the branched lung structure) within the obstructivelike model, whereas lesser penetration (generation 17) was observed when using the restrictivelike model. The proposed breathing-lung model can serve as a testing platform to provide a comprehensive understanding of the pharmacokinetics of pulmonary drugs within the lower lungs.

Background: In 2015, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, causing unprecedented damage and loss in the mountain and hill regions of central Nepal. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between healthcare access and utilization, and post-disaster mental health symptoms. Methods: A cross-sectional study conducted with 750 disaster-affected individuals in six districts in central Nepal 15 months post-earthquake. Anxiety and depression were measured through the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21). Healthcare utilization questions examined types of healthcare in the communities, utilization, and approachability of care providers. Univariate analyses, ANOVAs and Tobit regression were used. Results: Depression and anxiety symptoms were significantly higher for females and individuals between 40-50 years old. Those who utilized a district hospital had the lowest anxiety and depression scores. Participants who indicated medical shops were the most important source of health-related information had more anxiety and depression than those who used other services. Higher quality of healthcare was significantly associated with fewer anxiety and depressive symptoms. Conclusions: Mental health symptoms can last long after a disaster occurs. Access to quality mental health care in the primary health care settings is critical to help individuals and communities recover immediately and during the long-term recovery.
