RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the circadian changes of the autonomic function in patients with zoster-associated pain (ZAP). METHODS: A total of 37 patients with ZAP from April 2022 to October 2022 were enrolled as the observation group, and 37 normal volunteers at the same time were selected as the control group. All participants were required to wear a 24-h Holter, which was used to compare the heart rate variability (HRV) between the two groups. HRV analysis involved time- and frequency-domain parameters. RESULTS: There was no statistically significant difference in general information between two groups. Patients with ZAP had an increased mean heart rate and decreased the standard deviation of normal-to-normal (SDNN) R-R interval, the root mean square of the differences (RMSSD) in successive RR interval, low frequency (LF), and high frequency (HF) compared with control groups in all periods (p < .05). The ratio of LF/HF between two groups had no significant difference (p = .245). SDNN had no significant difference between day and night in the control group (p > .05), whereas SDNN of ZAP patients in night period was reduced than that in day period (p < .001). The level of RMSSD during the day was lower than those at night in the control group (p < .05), whereas no significant difference of RMSSD between two periods was observed in patients with ZAP (p > .05). CONCLUSION: The results of this study indicated that ZAP contributes to the decline of autonomic nervous system (ANS) function, especially parasympathetic components. The patients with ZAP lost parasympathetic advantage and had a worse ANS during the night.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Evidence regarding the characteristics and prognosis of neuroblastoma (NBL) in China is limited. We aimed to investigate the characteristics and prognosis of intermediate- or high-risk NBL in children in China. METHODS: We included 147 patients with intermediate- or high-risk NBL evaluated from January 2006 to March 2015. The patients were aged 1 month to 15.5 years, 66% of them were boys, and 117 (79.6%) were diagnosed with high-risk NBL. RESULTS: After a median follow-up of 32.5 months, 80 (45.6%) patients survived, with a median survival time of 48 months (95% confidence interval [CI]: 36.41-59.59). High-risk patients (hazard ratio [HR]: 12.467; 95% CI: 11.029-12.951), partial response (PR) (HR: 1.200; 95% CI: 1.475-2.509) or progression disease (PD) (HR: 1.924; 95% CI: 1.623-3.012) after induction chemotherapy, and intracranial metastasis (HR: 3.057; 95% CI: 0.941-4.892) were independent risk factors for survival (p < 0.05) and postrelapse survival (p < 0.05). NBL relapse, male sex, and PR or PD after induction chemotherapy were risk factors for event-free survival (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: In addition to previously established independent risk factors, such as age, risk group, and relapse, efficacy of induction chemotherapy and intracranial metastasis play significant roles in the prognosis of NBL.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: In this study, we aimed to analyze the clinical characteristics and prognosis of children with retinoblastoma (RB) in a single center in China with a large sample collection spanning 17 years. METHODS: The clinical data of 2790 children with RB treated in Beijing Tongren Hospital from 2005 to 2021 were collected, and a retrospective analysis was conducted. RESULTS: The median age of the participants was 28.3 months. There were 3624 affected eyes, 12.4% of which were in groups A-C, 67.1% in groups D-E and 16.2% were not specified. The primary symptom observed in most cases was a white pupil, accounting for 66.5%, followed by strabismus (12.8%). The median follow-up time was 59.7 months. The enucleation rate was 71.3% (703/986) in a single left eye and 72.5% (702/968) in a single right eye. The overall survival (OS) rate was 95.8% (2444/2552) because 237 patients dropped out, and 109 died. Kaplan‒Meier survival analysis showed that the median survival time (MST) was 125.92 months [95% confidence interval (CI) = 124.83-127.01]. Cox multivariate survival analysis showed that trilateral RB (P = 0.017), metastasis site (P = 0.001), and combined distant tissue metastasis (P = 0.001) were independent prognostic factors for RB. The OS of 44 cases of familial RB was 93.2% (41/44), with an MST of 80.62 months (95% CI = 67.70-93.54). CONCLUSIONS: The timing of eye protection treatment and enucleation should be comprehensively judged to avoid worsening prognosis due to operation time delay. More importantly, the promotion and popularization of diagnosis and treatment technologies are necessary to further improve RB prognosis.

RESUMO

Pulmonary artery sarcoma (PAS) is a sporadic malignant tumor that mainly originates from the pulmonary arteries. However, PAS may also involve the right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) and lead to obstruction, syncope, or sudden death. Early diagnosis and complete surgical resection are essential to prolong survival and improve the quality of life of patients with PAS. Herein, we report a case of a young female patient admitted for pulmonary malignancy and acute pulmonary embolism. The patient had a mass in the RVOT, which was detected by transthoracic echocardiography. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed the invasion depth and extent of the lesions. Surgical resection improved hemodynamics, while pathological and immunohistochemical tests confirmed the diagnosis of a pulmonary artery sarcoma. Local recurrence was detected in the adjacent tissues about two months after the surgery. Given the potential risk of reoperation, the patient was suggested to undergo conservative treatment.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To summarize the clinical features of liver damage in children in the acute stage of Kawasaki disease (KD), and to investigate the clinical value of liver damage in predicting coronary artery lesion and no response to intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) in children with KD. METHODS: The medical data were collected from 925 children who were diagnosed with KD for the first time in Beijing Children's Hospital from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2017. According to the presence or absence of abnormal alanine aminotransferase (ALT) level on admission, the children were divided into a liver damage group (n=284) and a non-liver damage group (n=641). A logistic regression analysis was used to investigate the clinical value of the indicators including liver damage in predicting coronary artery lesion and no response to IVIG in children with KD. RESULTS: Compared with the non-liver damage group, the liver damage group had a significantly earlier admission time and significantly higher serum levels of inflammatory indicators (P<0.05). The liver damage group had a significantly higher incidence rate of coronary artery lesion on admission than the non-liver damage group (P=0.034). After initial IVIG therapy, the liver damage group had a significantly higher proportion of children with no response to IVIG than the non-liver damage group (P<0.001). In children with KD, coronary artery lesion was associated with the reduction in the hemoglobin level and the increases in platelet count, C-reactive protein, and ALT (P<0.05), and no response to IVIG was associated with limb changes, the reduction in the hemoglobin level, the increases in platelet count, C-reactive protein, and ALT, and coronary artery lesion (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Compared with those without liver damage, the children in the early stage of KD with liver damage tend to develop clinical symptoms early and have higher levels of inflammatory indicators, and they are more likely to have coronary artery lesion and show no response to IVIG treatment.

RESUMO

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Wuzi Yanzong pill (WZYZP) is a classical traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula originated from the Tang dynasty. WZYZP has a long history of use for reinforcing kidney and alleviating male infertility in China. AIM OF THE STUDY: The effect of WZYZP on male infertility and the mechanism underlying this effect was not clarified clearly. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the protective effect of WZYZP in experimental spermatogenesis disorder via in vivo and in vitro studies, to promote the use of this formula for the treatment of spermatogenesis disorder. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Male SD rats were exposed to tripterygium glycosides to induce experimental spermatogenesis disorder, and WZYZP was subsequently administrated at different dosages for treatment. Sperm counts, sperm motility, and serum hormone levels were detected. HE staining and TUNEL staining were performed to evaluate the pathological lesions and apoptosis of testes, respectively. Next, germ cells were isolated from spermatogenesis disorder-model rats and treated with WZYZP- containing serum at different concentrations. CCK-8 assay and flow cytometry assay were performed to detect cell proliferation and apoptosis. Immunofluorescence assay, qRT-PCR and Western blotting analyses were performed to detect the expression of Beclin 1, LC3 and TGF-ß-PI3k/AKT-mTOR pathway - related factors, including TGF-ß, PI3K, AKT, mTOR, 4 EBP-1 and p70S6K. RESULTS: In vivo experiments showed that WZYZP protected against spermatogenesis disorder in model rats by improving sperm count and motility, as well as restoring serum hormone levels. HE and TUNEL staining demonstrated that the pathological injuries and cell apoptosis in testes of the model rats were alleviated by WZYZP treatment. Moreover, in vitro experiments of germ cells isolated from spermatogenesis disorder-model rats showed that WZYZP treatment increased the cell proliferation, inhibited cell apoptosis and autophagy. qRT-PCR and Western blotting assay results showed that this protective effect was associated with the regulation of the TGF-ß/PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway. The expression levels of p-PI3K/PI3K, p-AKT/AKT, p-mTOR/mTOR, 4 EBP-1 and p70S6K were increased, while TGF-ß was inhibited in the WZYZP treated groups. CONCLUSION: The results showed that WZYZP could protect against experimental spermatogenesis disorder by increasing the germ cell proliferation and inhibiting their apoptosis. Our support the clinical use of this formula for the management of spermatogenesis disorder.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The aim of the present study was to summarize the clinical characteristics of in children aged under 3 years and analyze the related factors affecting the prognosis. METHODS: The clinical data of 316 children aged under 3 years (192 males and 124 females) who were admitted to Beijing Tongren Hospital with a pathological diagnosis of HB between May 2005 and May 2019 were analyzed retrospectively. The factors influencing the therapeutic effects on and survival of HB in children with HB were analyzed. RESULTS: (1) The median age of the enrolled patients was 1.45 years. The most common initial symptom was an abdominal mass (69.0%). The average serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) level and platelet count at the initial visit were (97,406.5 ± 5022.8) ng/mL and (418 ± 206) × 109/L, respectively. The epithelial type was the main pathological type (51.9%). According to the PRETEXT preoperative typing system, the most common stage was stage III (57.0%), whereas according to the postoperative Evans staging system, the most common stage was stage IV (41.8%). At the initial visit, 62 cases (19.6%) had vascular invasion, 52 cases (16.5%) had extrahepatic tumor extension, and 20 cases (6.3%) had tumor rupture. Distant metastasis occurred in 132 cases, and the most common metastatic site was the lung (80.3%). The incidence in East China was relatively high (35.4%). (2) The children were followed up until May 2020 (the median follow-up duration was 62 months). It was found that 194 patients had complete remission and 62 had partial remission. The Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed that the overall survival was 95.3, 88.2, and 79.8% at 1 year, 3 years, and 5 years, respectively, and the event-free survival was 91.1, 83.2, and 75.1%, respectively. The Cox regression analysis showed that AFP level, platelet count, PRETEXT IV, vascular invasion, and distant metastasis at the initial visit were independent risk factors for the prognosis of children with HB (p < 0.05 in all). CONCLUSION: The prognosis of HB was correlated with the AFP level, platelet count, PRETEXT staging, vascular invasion, and distant metastasis at initial diagnosis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: This study explores and analyzes the clinical characteristics and prognostic factors of hepatoblastoma (HB) in children under 6 years old and establishes a new risk-stratification system for individualized therapy. METHODS: The clinical data of 382 pediatric patients under 6 years old (231 males and 151 females) who had been diagnosed with HB by pathology between May 2005 and May 2019 were collected. By analyzing the risk factors influencing the survival rate of patients with HB, a new risk-stratification system was established, and it was compared with previous risk-stratification systems by a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. RESULTS: (1) According to a Kaplan-Meier survival analysis, the one-year, three-year, and five-year overall survival (OS) was 93.7, 84.0, and 73.9%, respectively, and the event-free survival (EFS) was 90.5, 79.2, and 67.5%, respectively. (2) The independent risk factors influencing prognosis in pediatric patients with HB were alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) < 100 ng/ml or > 1000 ng/ml (HR = 3.341, P = 0.005); platelet count > 400 × 109/L (pooled hazard ratio [HR] = 2.123, P = 0.026); PRETEXT stage IV (HR = 4.026, P = 0.001); vascular involvement (HR = 2.178, P = 0.019); distant metastasis (HR = 2.634, P = 0.010);and multifocality (HR = 2.215, P = 0.012). (3) A new risk-stratification system was established and divided into three groups: low risk, moderate risk, and high risk. There were statistical differences among the three groups (P = 0.002). Compared with the previous risk-staging systems, there was no significant difference in the survival rate. Although the effect in the guiding therapy was the same, the area under the curve for the ROC curve was 0.835 (95% CI: 0.784-0.885) for the new stratification system. CONCLUSION: This new risk-stratification system had a better predictive value for the prognosis of pediatric patients with HB than other stratification systems.

RESUMO

Infantile digital fibromatosis is a rare, benign fibrous tumor among infants usually limited to fingers and toes. Most cases present themselves with round eosinophilic inclusion bodies of different sizes, similar to erythrocyte in the parakarytoplasm. Although infantile digital fibromatosis had been observed with a tendency of spontaneous regression after a rapid phase of growth in some reports, the recurrence rate of early surgical intervention remains high. And the mechanism of recurrence is still unknown. Human papillomavirus (HPV), as a circular icosahedral double-stranded DNA virus, is famous for its remarkable significant correlation with cervical cancer. However, the reports about the possible relationship of recurrent infantile digital fibromatosis and HPV infection are rare and inconsistent. Here, we report a recurrent case of infantile digital fibromatosis after surgical resection. Pathological biopsy of the recurrent site not only identified the diagnosis of infantile digital fibromatosis again, but found the sign of HPV infection. Family history indicated that the patient's grandmother had a history of verruca plana. After complete resection of recurrence, the tumor recurred again and the case is still being followed up. The unique case may serve as a clue to the pathogenesis of the relationship between recurrent infantile digital fibromatosis and HPV infection.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Chuanxiong Qingnao Granule (CQG) to treat migraine. METHOD: This study was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. All migraineurs were recruited and randomly assigned into a treatment group treated with CQG and a control group treated with a placebo. The whole research process included a 4-week baseline, 12-week intervention, and 12-week follow-up. The primary outcome was responder rate, defined as the percentage of migraineurs with 50% or more reduction in the frequency of migraine attack during treatment and posttreatment period compared with the baseline. The secondary outcomes were the number of migraine days, migraine attack frequency, visual analogue scale (VAS), Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD), and Migraine Disability Assessment (MIDAS). RESULTS: A total of 346 migraineurs completed the research and were included in the intention-treatment analyses. The response rates differed significantly between the treatment group and the control group (71.5% vs. 12.1% at week 12 and 83.1% vs. 3.4% at week 24). Attack frequency, days of headache attack, VAS, FSS, HAMD, and MIDAS decreased at week 12 in both groups with more reduction in the treatment group (P < 0.001). No severe adverse events were observed in this trial. CONCLUSION: Chuanxiong Qingnao Granule can significantly improve headache symptoms in patients with migraine while improving disability, fatigue, and depression with a good safety profile.

RESUMO

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Diabetes mellitus-induced erectile dysfunction (DMED) is one of the most common complications of diabetes mellitus. Leech and centipede granules (LCG) have traditionally been used as blood-activating agents in various ethnomedicinal systems of East Asia, especially in China. It is often used to regulate bodily functions and considered as adjuvant therapy for promoting blood circulation, alleviating blood coagulation, activating meridians, and relieving stasis. AIM OF THE STUDY: This study aimed to identify potential genes and mechanisms of LCG on DMED from the network pharmacological perspective. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The active components of LCG were identified by UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS, TCMID, and the BATMAN-TCM databases, and the disease targets of DMED were obtained from the DisGeNET, CooLGeN, GeneCards databases. After identifying DMED targets of LCG, a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed. Hub genes and significant modules were identified via the MCODE plug-in of Cytoscape software. Then, significant signaling pathways of the modules were identified using the Metascape database. The probable interaction mode of compounds-hub genes is examined using Molecular Operating Environment (MOE) docking software. Besides, we investigated the effects and mechanisms of LCG on improving erectile function in the streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats model. RESULTS: Combined UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS analysis with network pharmacology study, 18 active compounds were selected for target prediction. There are 97 common target genes between LCG and DMED. Enrichment of the KEGG pathway mainly involves in the calcium signaling pathway, NF-kappa B signaling pathway, cGMP-PKG signaling pathway, HIF-1 signaling pathway, PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, and mTOR signaling pathway. Nine hub genes were regulated by LCG in DMED, including CXCL8, NOS3, CRH, TH, BDNF, DRD4, ACE, CNR1, and HTR1A. The results of molecular docking analysis showed that the tyrosin, ursolic acid, and L-Histidine has a relatively stable interaction with corresponding hub genes via generating hydrogen bonds, H-π, and π-π interactions. Significantly, the results in docking predicted a higher affinity of vardenafil to the hub genes compared to the tyrosin, ursolic acid, and L-Histidine. Furthermore, LCG increased the testosterone, erection frequency, the ratio of ICP and MAP, SOD, cGMP, cAMP as well as decreased the MDA, and AGEs expression levels. And, LCG ameliorated the histological change of penile tissues in DMED rats. Hence, LCG attenuates oxidative stress, increases NO production; For the mechanism exploration, LCG could significantly upregulate the mRNA and protein expression of CNR1, NOS3, CRH, TH, BDNF, and DRD4, whereas CXCL8, ACE, and HTR1A levels were significantly higher than those in the DMED group. Moreover, LCG activates the NO/cGMP/PKG pathway, PI3K/Akt/nNOS pathway, cAMP/PKA pathway, and inhibits the HIF-1α/mTOR pathway to improve erectile function. CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that LCG maybe offer a new therapeutic basis for the treatment of DMED via altering the gene expression of involved metabolic pathways.

RESUMO

Glioma is a fatal brain tumor characterized by rapid proliferation and treatment resistance. Ferroptosis is a newly discovered programmed cell death and plays a crucial role in the occurrence and progression of tumors. In this study, we identified ferroptosis specific markers to reveal the relationship between ferroptosis-related genes and glioma by analyzing whole transcriptome data from Chinese Glioma Genome Atlas, The Cancer Genome Atlas dataset, GSE16011 dataset, and the Repository of Molecular Brain Neoplasia Data dataset. Nineteen ferroptosis-related genes with clinical and pathological features of glioma were identified as highly correlated. Functional assays in glioma cell lines indicated the association of ferroptosis with temozolomide resistance, autophagy, and glioma cell migration. Therefore, the identified ferroptosis-related genes were significantly correlated with glioma progression.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: To identify possible prognostic factors in children with head and neck rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS). METHODS: A total of 98 patients with head and neck RMS were enrolled in this retrospective study from February 2005 to September 2017. Prognostic factors were evaluated by univariate and multivariate analysis using Cox's proportional hazards model. Survival curves were calculated by Kaplan-Meier method. RESULTS: At the study closing date, there were 60 patients alive, 37 patients died, one patient was lost to follow-up, and 47 patients relapsed. The median disease-specific survival was 60.00 ± 25.36 months, and the overall survival (OS) rate was 61.9%. Complete remission was associated with a longer disease-specific survival (86.6%) compared with partial remission (6.7%). In addition, patients with age >3 years had better OS rate (69.0%) compared with age ≤3 years (42.3%). Univariate and multivariate analysis showed that chemotherapy efficacy and age were prognostic factors of disease-specific survival. CONCLUSIONS: Improvement in outcome was obtained with comprehensive treatment for head and neck RMS. Both chemotherapy efficacy and age of patients were prognostic factors for children with head and neck RMS, which provide some valuable information for further treatment.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Reports in the field of robotic surgery for rectal cancer are increasing year by year. However, most of these studies enroll patients at a relatively early stage and have small sample sizes. In fact, studies only on patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) and with relatively large sample sizes are lacking. AIM: To investigate whether the short-term outcomes differed between robotic-assisted proctectomy (RAP) and laparoscopic-assisted proctectomy (LAP) for LARC. METHODS: The clinicopathological data of patients with LARC who underwent robotic- or laparoscopic-assisted radical surgery between January 2015 and October 2019 were collected retrospectively. To reduce patient selection bias, we used the clinical baseline characteristics of the two groups of patients as covariates for propensity-score matching (PSM) analysis. Short-term outcomes were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: The clinical features were well matched in the PSM cohort. Compared with the LAP group, the RAP group had less intraoperative blood loss, lower volume of pelvic cavity drainage, less time to remove the pelvic drainage tube and urinary catheter, longer distal resection margin and lower rates of conversion (P < 0.05). However, the time to recover bowel function, the harvested lymph nodes, the postoperative length of hospital stay, and the rate of unplanned readmission within 30 days postoperatively showed no difference between the two groups (P > 0.05). The rates of total complications and all individual complications were similar between the RAP and LAP groups (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: This retrospective study indicated that RAP is a safe and feasible method for LARC with better short-term outcomes than LAP, but we have to admit that the clinically significant of part of indicators are relatively small in the practical situation.

RESUMO

The crisis of male infertility is an issue of human reproductive health worldwide. The Wuzi Yanzong pill (WZYZP) is a traditional Chinese medicine prescription that shows efficacy in kidney reinforcement and essence benefit to ameliorate male reproductive dysfunctions. However, the pharmacological mechanisms of the WZYZP on male infertility have not been investigated and clarified clearly. This study was designed to investigate the effects of the WZYZP on spermatogenesis disorder and explore its underlying pharmacological mechanisms. First, based on a network pharmacology study, 39 bioactive compounds and 40 targets of the WZYZP associated with spermatogenesis disorder were obtained, forming a tight compound-target network. Molecular docking tests showed tight docking of these compounds with predicted targeted proteins. The protein-protein interaction (PPI) network identified TP53, TNF, AKT1, Bcl-XL, Bcl-2, and IκBA as hub targets. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway network and pathway-target-compound network revealed that the apoptosis pathway was enriched by multiple signaling pathways and multiple targets, including the hub targets. Subsequently, the chemical characterization of WZYZP was analyzed using liquid chromatography to quadrupole/time-of-flight mass spectrometry, and 40 compounds in positive ion mode and 41 compounds in negative ion mode in the WZYZP were identified. Furthermore, based on the prediction of a network pharmacology study, a rat model of spermatogenesis disorder was established to evaluate the curative role and underlying mechanisms of the WZYZP. The results showed that WZYZP treatment improved rat sperm quality and attenuated serum hormone levels, reversed histopathological damage of the testis, reduced cell apoptosis in testis tissues, and ameliorated the expression of the predicted hub targets (TP53, TNF-α, AKT1, NFκB, and IκBA) and the apoptosis related proteins (Bcl-XL, Bcl-2, Bax, Caspase 3, and Caspase 9). These results indicated that the WZYZP has a protective effect on spermatogenesis disorder, suggesting that it could be an alternative choice for male infertility therapy.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Hepatoblastoma (HB) was the most common primary liver malignant tumor in children. In this study, we aimed to analyze the clinical characteristics and outcome in HB children with pulmonary metastasis and extrapulmonary involvement. METHODS: This retrospective study enrolled 36 HB children with pulmonary metastasis and extrapulmonary involvement from January 2010 to December 2017. Clinical characteristics, treatment and outcomes were collected and analyzed. Survival curves were calculated by Kaplan-Meier method. RESULTS: Thirty-six patients (10 females and 26 males) were recruited, with a mean onset age of 2.13 years (range, 0.33-7.83). Four (11.11%) patients presented with single metastatic pulmonary nodules, 32 (88.89%) patients presented with multiple metastatic nodules in both lungs. There were 10 (27.78%) patients with extrahepatic abdomen involvement, 13 (36.11%) patients with brain metastasis, and 16 (44.44%) patients with vascular metastasis. All patients underwent liver tumorectomy and chemotherapy. The median chemotherapy cycle was 17 (range, 3-39). In addition, 19 (54.29%) patients underwent lung metastasectomy. The patients were followed up to December 2018, with a median follow-up of 32.5 months. At the study closing date, 9 patients were alive, 24 patients had died, and 3 patients were censored. Alpha fetoprotein (AFP) level, PRETEXT stage and distant metastases had significant impact on survival time (all P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The common sites of extrapulmonary metastasis of HB were blood vessels, brain and extrahepatic abdominal organs. The overall prognosis of HB patients with lung metastasis and extrapulmonary involvement was poor, especially those with PRETEXT stage IV, high AFP level or distant metastases.
