RESUMO

Water transportation to developing tissues relies on the structure and function of plant xylem cells. Plant microtubules govern the direction of cellulose microfibrils and guide secondary cell wall formation and morphogenesis. However, the relevance of microtubule-determined xylem wall thickening patterns in plant hydraulic conductivity remains unclear. In the present study, we identified a maize (Zea mays) semi-dominant mutant, designated drought-overly-sensitive1 (ZmDos1), the upper leaves of which wilted even when exposed to well-watered conditions during growth; the wilting phenotype was aggravated by increased temperatures and decreased humidity. Protoxylem vessels in the stem and leaves of the mutant showed altered thickening patterns of the secondary cell wall (from annular to spiral), decreased inner diameters, and limited water transport efficiency. The causal mutation for this phenotype was found to be a G-to-A mutation in the maize gene α-tubulin4, resulting in a single amino acid substitution at position 196 (E196K). Ectopic expression of the mutant α-tubulin4 in Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) changed the orientation of microtubule arrays, suggesting a determinant role of this gene in microtubule assembly and secondary cell wall thickening. Our findings suggest that the spiral wall thickenings triggered by the α-tubulin mutation are stretched during organ elongation, causing a smaller inner diameter of the protoxylem vessels and affecting water transport in maize. This study underscores the importance of tubulin-mediated protoxylem wall thickening in regulating plant hydraulics, improves our understanding of the relationships between protoxylem structural features and functions, and offers candidate genes for the genetic enhancement of maize.

RESUMO

The quenching sensitivity of 7A65 aluminum alloy was investigated using interrupted quenching experiments. The time-temperature transformation (TTT) and time-temperature performance (TTP) curves of the alloy were determined. The results indicate that the nose temperature is about 320 °C and the quenching sensitivity temperature range is from 240 °C to 360 °C. During the isothermal treatment, the supersaturated solid solution resolves to the equilibrium phase of η (MgZn2), and the precipitation rate is the largest at about 320 °C. Through transmission electron microscope (TEM) observation and X-ray diffraction (XRD) tests, it was found that with the extension of the isothermal holding time, the originally dispersed η' phase gradually decreases until disappear, and the number of η phase increases and gradually grows up at the grain boundary or around the Al3Zr particles. The rod-like η phase at the grain boundary is distributed from discontinuous distribution to chain-like continuous distribution, and the precipitation free zone (PFZ) is gradually generated and widened as the holding time is extended. At the nose temperature, the driving force of nucleation is high, and the diffusion rate is fast, which promotes the precipitation and growth of η phases. The coarse η phase weakens the mechanical properties. According to the results, it is recommended to increase the cooling rate at the sensitivity temperature range to reduce the precipitation of the η phase and decrease the quenching cooling rate from solution temperature to 360 °C to reduce residual stresses in the components.

RESUMO

Introduction: We conducted a meta-analysis (MA) to investigate the effects of furosemide on the prognosis of extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (SWL) therapy to remove renal (RS) and ureteric stones (US). Methods: We screened scientific databases including PubMed, Clinicalkey, Google Scholar, Medline, Embase, and Cochrane, from the date of establishment until March 2022, to search for randomized controlled trials evaluating SWL, in combination with furosemide (experimental group) or with SWL alone (control group), in treating RS or US. Our search terms included furosemide, extracorporeal SWL, and urolithiasis. For this MA, we employed the Cochrane Collaboration's RevMan version 5.3.0. Results: Six trials, involving 1344 participants, with RS (n = 1097) and/or US (n = 247), met our predefined criteria. This included 137 proximal ureteral stones (PUSs), 35 mid-ureteral stones (MUS), and 75 distal ureteral stones (DUS). In case of RS, the experimental group exhibited significantly enhanced clearance, relative to controls (risk ratio [RR] = 1.16, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.07-1.25, p = 0.0002), yet there was no obvious difference in the PUS, MUS, and DUS (RR = 1.14, 95% CI = 0.97-1.33, p = 0.10; odds ratio [OR] = 1.26, 95% CI = 1.40-3.95, p = 0.69; RR = 1.21, 95% CI = 0.99-1.49, p = 0.06). There was also no marked difference between fragmentations in either group. Only reports of SWL treatment of RS provided adequate data on shocks, sessions, and complications for our analysis. Unfortunately, there was no significant alteration between the two groups. Conclusion: According to our analysis, furosemide strongly accelerates the clearance rate of SWL-treated RS. However, it does not enhance the fragmentation rate. Given this evidence, we propose that furosemide does not significantly improve the efficacy of SWL therapy in removing US. Registration: Our work is registered with PROSPERO (CRD42020204780).

RESUMO

Thermomechanical treatment is an effective way to refine the coarse microstructures of aluminum alloys. In this work, multiaxial forging deformation at high, medium, and cryogenic temperatures (i.e., 450, 250, and -180 °C, respectively) was performed on 7085 Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys, and its effect on the microstructure evolution and mechanical properties during the subsequent T6 heat treatment process was studied. The results revealed that the coarse particles were broken into finer particles when deformed at cryogenic temperatures, promoting the dissolution of the material after solid solution treatment. Dynamic recrystallization occurred when deformed at 450 °C; however, more dislocations and substructures were found in the samples deformed at 250 and -180 °C, causing static recrystallization after solid solution treatment. The cryogenic deformed sample exhibited a more intense and homogeneous precipitation phase distribution. The strength of the sample deformed at high temperature was high, but its elongation was low, while the strength of the sample deformed at medium temperature was low. The microstructure refinement of the cryogenic deformed sample led to high comprehensive mechanical properties, with an ultimate tensile strength of 535 MPa, a yield strength of 506 MPa, and a fracture elongation of 11.1%.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate high risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) prevalence among married women in Beijing and to study the high risk factors. METHODS: During March 2007 to September 2008, a total of 6185 married women sampled from 137 communities in 12 districts were screened by HR-HPV DNA test and cytological test. The interview was carried out with unified questionnaires. The database was set up and twice entered in EpiData 3.0. After checked up, the data were analyzed in SPSS 15.0. RESULTS: (1) The HR-HPV infection rate was 9.89%. The HR-HPV infection rate of the city zone, the suburb and the exurb were 9.34%, 10.51% and 9.51% (P > 0.05). The HR-HPV infection rate of the native and the outlander were 9.53%, 11.30% (P < 0.05). (2) The age distribution of HR-HPV infection was that the rate was around 10% among 25 to 44 age groups, which was the highest (11.21%) in 30 to 34 age group; then the rate was descended as the age raising, the rate of 50 to 54 age group was the lowest (7.78%). (3) Multiple logistic regression showed that the related risk factors of HR-HPV infection mainly included 1000 RMB and above of family income per person per month, possessing more than 1 sexual partner of her husband, outlander and high levels of education. (4) The prevalence of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) in HR-HPV positive group was significantly higher than that in HR-HPV negative group (29.76% vs 3.32%, P < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: (1) The HR-HPV infection rate among aged 25 to 54 years was 9.9% and there was no significant difference in area distribution. (2) The high risk population which should strengthen screening was the married bearing-age women with high level of family income, outlander, high levels of education and her husband possessing more than 1 sexual partner. (3) HR-HPV infection is the main risk factor for CIN and cervical cancer, while does not provide a causal relationship with them. The high risk population should be checked regularly to understand the development of HR-HPV infection and CIN incidence.
