In the current study, we evaluated the in vitro antibacterial efficacy of the roots' extracts of Jasminum officinale, Rosa damascene and Paeonia officinalis against MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) by well diffusion technique. The root extract of P. officinalis exerted a potent anti-MRSA with MIC 0.4673 µg/ml, while both J. officinale and R. damascene exhibited very weak activity. Therefore, chemical profiling of the crude extract P. officinalis roots assisted by LC-HR-ESI-MS was performed and led to the dereplication of twenty metabolites of different classes, in which terpenes are the most abundant compounds. On a molecular level, network pharmacology was used to determine the targets of active metabolites to bacterial infections, particularly MRSA. Online databases PubChem, UniProt, STRING, and Swiss Target Prediction were used. In addition to using CYTOSCAPE software to display and analyze the findings, ShinyGO and FunRich tools were used to identify the gene enrichment analysis to the set of recognized genes. The results detected the identified metabolites were annotated by 254 targets. ALB, ACHE, TYMS, PRKCD, PLG, MMP9, MMP2, ERN1, EDNRA, BRD4 were found to be associated with MRSA infection. The top KEGG pathway was the vascular smooth muscle contraction pathway according to enrichment FDR. The present study suggested a possible implication of P. officinalis roots as a potent candidate having a powerful antibacterial activity against MRSA.

BACKGROUND: Acute pulmonary embolism (APE) poses a significant risk to patient health, with treatment options varying in efficacy and safety. Ultrasound-facilitated catheter-directed thrombolysis (USCDT) has emerged as a potential alternative to conventional catheter-directed thrombolysis (CDT) for patients with intermediate to high-risk APE. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of USCDT versus conventional CDT in patients with intermediate to high-risk APE. METHODS: This observational retrospective study was conducted at the Armed Forces Hospital, Al-Hada, Taif, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), on 135 patients diagnosed with APE and treated with either USCDT or CDT (58 underwent CDT, while 77 underwent USCDT). The primary efficacy outcome was the change in the right ventricle to the left ventricle (RV/LV) diameter ratio. Secondary outcomes included changes in pulmonary artery systolic pressure and the Miller angiographic obstruction index score. Safety outcomes focused on major bleeding events. RESULTS: Both USCDT and CDT significantly reduced RV/LV diameter ratio (from 1.35 ± 0.14 to 1.05 ± 0.17, P < 0.001) and systolic pulmonary artery pressure (SPAP) (from 55 ± 7 mmHg to 38 ± 7 mmHg, P < 0.001) at 48- and 12-hours post-procedure, respectively, with no significant differences between treatments. However, USCDT was associated with a significantly lower rate of major bleeding events compared to CDT (0% vs. 3.4%, P = 0.008). Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that USCDT was associated with a 71.9% risk reduction of bleeding (OR = 0.281, 95% CI = 0.126 - 0.627, P = 0.002). CONCLUSIONS: USCDT is a safe and effective alternative to CDT for the treatment of intermediate to high-risk APE, as it significantly reduces the risk of major bleeding.

Harnessing solar energy is one of the most important practical insights highlighted to mitigate the severe climate change (CC) phenomenon. Therefore, this study aims to focus on the use of hybrid solar dryers (HSDs) within an environmentally friendly framework, which is one of the promising applications of solar thermal technology to replace traditional thermal technology that contributes to increasing the severity of the CC phenomenon. The HSD, based on a traditional electrical energy source (HSTEE) and electrical energy from photovoltaic panels (HSPVSE), was evaluated compared to a traditional electrical (TE) dryer for drying some medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs). This is done by evaluating some of the drying outputs, energy consumed, carbon footprint, and financial return at 30, 40, and 50°C. The best quality of dried MAP samples in terms of essential oil (EO, %) and microbial load was achieved at 40°C. The HSTEE dryer has reduced energy consumption compared to the TE dryer by a percentage ranging from 37% to 54%. The highest CO2 mitigated ratio using the HSTEE dryer was recorded in thyme, marjoram, and lemongrass samples, with values ranging from 45% to 54% at 30, 40, and 50°C. The highest financial return obtained from energy consumption reduction and carbon credit footprint was achieved at 50°C, with values ranging from 5,313.69 to 6,763.03 EGP/year (EGP ≈ 0.0352 USD) when coal was used as a fuel source for the generation of electricity. Moreover, the HSPVSE dryer achieved a 100% reduction in traditional energy consumption and then reduced CO2 emissions by 100%, which led to a 100% financial return from both energy reduction and carbon credit. The highest financial returns were observed at 50°C, with values ranging from 13,872.56 to 15,007.02, 12,927.28 to 13,984.43, and 11,981.99 to 12,961.85 EGP/year (EGP ≈ 0.0352 USD) for coal, oil, and natural gas, respectively. The HS dryers show potential for environmental conservation contribution; furthermore, earning money from energy savings and carbon credit could help improve the living standards and maximize benefits for stakeholders.

The present work investigates the potential role of metformin nanoparticles (MTF-NPs) as a radio-protector against cardiac fibrosis and inflammation induced by gamma radiation via CXCL1/TGF-ß pathway. Lethal dose fifty of nano-metformin was determined in mice, then 21 rats (male albino) were equally divided into three groups: normal control (G1), irradiated control (G2), and MTF-NPs + IRR (G3). The possible protective effect of MTF-NPs is illustrated via decreasing cardiac contents of troponin, C-X-C motif Ligand 1 (CXCL1), tumor growth factor ß (TGF-ß), protein kinase B (AKT), and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB). Also, the positive effect of MTF-NPs on insulin-like growth factor (IGF) and platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) in heart tissues using immunohistochemical technique is illustrated in the present study. Histopathological examination emphasizes the biochemical findings. The current investigation suggests that MTF-NPs might be considered as a potent novel treatment for the management of cardiac fibrosis and inflammation in patients who receive radiotherapy or workers who may be exposed to gamma radiation.

BACKGROUND: Paclitaxel is a chemotherapeutic agent commonly used for ovarian, lung, breast carcinoma, and Kaposi's sarcoma. Its common side effects include hypersensitivity reaction, bone marrow suppression, and peripheral neuropathy. However, a rare and life-threatening side effect is paclitaxel-induced myocardial infarction. CASE PRESENTATION: A 71-year-old man with type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, heavy smoking history, previous coronary artery disease with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in left anterior descending artery (LAD), and non-small lung cancer presented with non-ST elevation myocardial infarction during infusion of paclitaxel infusion. Coronary angiogram showed de novo three vessel disease with 70% stenosis in ostial to distal left main artery (LM) and 80% in-stent re-stenosis in proximal to mid left anterior descending artery. CONCLUSIONS: Physicians should be keeping this in mind when dealing with patients on paclitaxel, especially if they have previous risk factors for coronary artery disease.

Perturbations produced by ionizing radiation on intestinal tissue are considered one of highly drastic challenges in radiotherapy. Animals were randomized into five groups. The first group was allocated as control, and the second was subjected to whole body γ-irradiation (10 Gy). The third was administered HA NP (17.6 mg/kg/day; i.p.) and then irradiated. The fourth one received MitoQ (2 mg/kg/day; i.p.) and then irradiated. The last group received MitoQ/HA NP (2 mg/kg/day; i.p.) for 5 days prior to irradiation. Mice were sacrificed a week post-γ-irradiation for evaluation. MitoQ/HA NP ameliorated mitochondrial oxidative stress as indicated by rising (TAC) and glutathione peroxidase and decreasing malondialdehyde, showing its distinguished antioxidant yield. That impacted the attenuation of apoptosis, which was revealed by the restoration of the anti-apoptotic marker and lessening proapoptotic caspase-3. Inflammatory parameters dwindled via treatment with MitoQ/HA NP. Moreover, this new NP exerts its therapeutic action through a distinguished radioprotective pathway (Hmgb1/TLR-4.) Subsequently, these antioxidants and their nanoparticles conferred protection to intestinal tissue as manifested by histopathological examination. These findings would be associated with its eminent antioxidant potential through high mitochondria targeting, enhanced cellular uptake, and ROS scavenging. This research underlines MitoQ/HA NP as a new treatment for the modulation of intestinal damage caused by radiotherapy modalities.

Myocardial infarction (MI) is characterized by a significant loss of cardiomyocytes (CMs), and it is suggested that reactive oxygen species (ROS) are involved in cell cycle arrest, leading to impaired CM renewal. Thioredoxin-1 (Trx-1) scavenges ROS and may play a role in restoring CM renewal. However, the truncated form of Trx-1, Trx-80, can compromise its efficacy by exerting antagonistic effects. Therefore, a Trx-1 mimetic peptide called CB3 was tested as an alternative way to restore CMs. This study aimed to investigate the effects of Trx-1, Trx-80, and CB3 on mice with experimental MI and study the underlying mechanism of CB3 on CMs. Mouse cardiac parameters were quantified by echocardiography, and infarction size and fibrosis determined using Trichrome and Picro-Sirius Red staining. The study found that Trx-1 and CB3 improved mouse cardiac function, reduced the size of cardiac infarct and fibrosis, and decreased the expression of cardiac inflammatory markers. Furthermore, CB3 polarized macrophages into M2 phenotype, reduced apoptosis and oxidative stress after MI, and increased CM proliferation in cell culture and in vivo. CB3 effectively protected against myocardial infarction and could represent a new class of compounds for treating MI.

BACKGROUND: Endophytic fungi are very rich sources of natural antibacterial and antifungal compounds. The main aim of this study is to isolate the fungal endophytes from the medicinal plant Corchorus olitorius seeds (F. Malvaceae), followed by antimicrobial screening against various bacterial and fungal strains. RESULTS: Seven endophytic fungal strains belonging to different three genera were isolated, including Penicillium, Fusarium, and Aspergillus. The seven isolated endophytic strains revealed selective noticeable activity against Escherichia coli (ATCC25922) with varied IC50s ranging from 1.19 to 10 µg /mL, in which Aspergillus sp. (Ar 6) exhibited the strongest potency against E. coli (ATCC 25,922) and candida albicans (ATCC 10,231) with IC50s 1.19 and 15 µg /mL, respectively. Therefore, the chemical profiling of Aspergillus sp. (Ar 6) crude extract was performed using LC-HR-ESI-MS and led to the dereplication of sixteen compounds of various classes (1-16). In-silico analysis of the dereplicated metabolites led to highlighting the compounds responsible for the antimicrobial activity of Aspergillus sp. extract. Moreover, molecular docking showed the potential targets of the metabolites; Astellatol (5), Aspergillipeptide A (10), and Emericellamide C (14) against E. coli and C. albicans. CONCLUSION: These results will expand the knowledge of endophytes and provide us with new approaches to face the global antibiotic resistance problem and the future production of undiscovered compounds different from the antibiotics classes.

Melanin is a brown-black pigment with significant roles in various biological processes. The tyrosinase enzyme catalyzes the conversion of tyrosine to melanin and has promising uses in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors. This research aims to purify and immobilize the tyrosinase enzyme from Pseudomonas sp. EG22 using cellulose-coated magnetic nanoparticles. Various techniques were utilized to examine the synthesized nanoparticles, which exhibited a spherical shape with an average diameter of 12 nm and a negative surface potential of - 55.7 mV with a polydispersity index (PDI) of 0.260. Comparing the immobilized magnetic tyrosinase enzyme with the free enzyme, the study's findings showed that the immobilized tyrosinase enzyme had optimal activity at a pH of 6 and a temperature of 35 °C, and its activity increased as the concentration of tyrosine increased. The study investigated the antibacterial and anticancer bioactivity of the enzyme's melanin product and found that it exhibited potential antibacterial activity against a multi-drug resistant strain including S. aureus and E. coli. The produced melanin also demonstrated the potential to decrease cell survival and induce apoptosis in initiation cells.

BACKGROUND: Several studies reported the comparability of digital stent enhancement techniques (including stent boost imaging) in detecting suboptimal results of coronary stenting with Intra Vascular Ultrasound and optical coherence tomography. AIMS: to assess results of stent deployment and determine the incidence of suboptimal results requiring changing final decision using stent boost imaging. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 120 patients eligible for PCI were recruited during a period of one year (January 2021 to 2022) using DES. RESULTS: Suboptimal results were found in 38% of the PCI cases with stents (angiography guided). Importantly it was found that improper lesion preparation in our practice could not help improving stent optimization. Also, angiography guided PCI has significant incidence of suboptimal results. Digital stent enhancement techniques like stent boost have significant and important value in better decision making. After adjusting for age and sex, six factors were identified as independent predictors for final decision change (stent length, LAD/RCA affection, proximal segment affection, calcification, and optical coherence tomography. CONCLUSION: This study has confirmed the utility of stent boost for the optimization of PCI in daily practice. Stent Boost is a simple and costless technique that provides an accurate assessment of a deployed stent without extending the procedure time and without more risk. It appears to be useful for the immediate evaluation of stent expansion and optimization of PCI by additional post-dilatation, when appropriate. Future studies are needed to determine whether Stent Boost data will correlate with adverse long-term clinical outcomes in patients undergoing PCI.

Despite the clinical advances in cancer treatment, the high mortality rate is still a great challenge, requiring much effort to find new and efficient cancer therapies. AIMS: The present evidence investigated the potential antiproliferative impact of the mitochondrial-targeted antioxidant, Mitoquinol (MitoQ), on a mouse model of Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC). MAIN METHODS: Mice-bearing tumors were administered two doses of MitoQ (0.3 mg & 0.5 mg/kg; i.p daily) or doxorubicin (2 mg/kg; i.p daily) for 20 days. KEY FINDINGS: EAC mice revealed exacerbated mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (mtROS) and impaired mitochondrial membrane potential (△Ψm). Dysfunctional mitophagy was observed in EAC mice, along with boosting aerobic glycolysis. In addition, tumor cells exhibited higher proliferation rates, thereby stimulating cell cycle, invasion, and angiogenesis biomarkers together with suppressing proapoptotic proteins, events that might be correlated with activation of NF-κB signaling. The administration of MitoQ combated tumor cell survival and dissemination in EAC mice as evidenced by reducing tumor volumes and weights and increasing the number of necrotic areas in histopathological assessment. MitoQ also repressed tumor cell cycle, invasion, and angiogenesis via preventing cyclin D1 mRNA, MMP-1, and CD34 levels as well as VEGF protein expression. These observations were associated with the abrogation of mtROS overproduction and enhancement of the mitophagy proteins, PINK1/Parkin levels, followed by inhibition of NADH dehydrogenase. Notably, NF-κB signaling was modulated. SIGNIFICANCE: This study suggests that MitoQ combated tumor cell survival and progression in EAC mice by maintaining mtROS and restoring mitophagy, thereby attenuation of NF-κB activation.

A hybrid smart solar dryer (HSSD) based on indirect forced convection and a controlled auxiliary heating system was developed, fabricated, and tested to be convenient for sunny and cloudy weather conditions. The achievements of the developed dryer focus on controlling the temperature of the dryer, increasing the drying rate, reducing energy consumption, and providing high-quality products. The HSSD was tested and evaluated for drying basil and sage herbs at 30, 40, and 50°C. The results showed that the fresh basil and sage leaves of 1 kg with a moisture content of 84.7% and 75.53% (wet basis) were dried within 58, 46, 32 and 38, 28, and 20 h at 30, 40, and 50°C, respectively. Correspondingly, the traditional drying methods achieved 96 h outdoors and 144 h indoors at room temperature. The average of the fabricated flat-plate solar collector efficiency (thermal efficiency, ηfpsc ) was ranged from 49.18% ± 9.52% to 66.02% ± 2.8%. The highest drying rates were achieved with the HSSD method. Moreover, the HSSD method led to a remarkable saving in energy with values ranging from 25.54% to 77.1% versus the traditional drying methods. While the best quality in terms of essential oil content and microbial load for the dried basil and sage herbs was achieved by the HSSD at 40°C. Finally, the HSSD is a promising energy-efficient method where it can save 70% of energy consumption, thus reducing the carbon footprint of drying processes, and providing higher quality products compared to the conventional methods.

BACKGROUND: Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) has recently emerged as a promising biomarker for the detection of polycystic ovarian morphology. In polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), an elevated level of AMH has been suggested to add value to the Rotterdam criteria in cases of diagnostic uncertainty. In this study, we evaluated the correlation between AMH and PCOS, and the potential role of AMH in PCOS diagnosis. METHODS: A case-control study was performed on a total of 200 females, 100 of which were diagnosed with PCOS as per Rotterdam revised criteria (2003) and 100 as the control (non-PCOS group). Patient medical records were therefore retrieved for clinical, biochemical and ultrasound markers for PCOS diagnosis. Sensitivity, specificity, area under receiver operating characteristic (AUROC) curve, and multivariate linear regression models were applied to analyze our data. RESULTS: Mean serum levels of LH and AMH, and LH/FSH ratio were significantly different between compared groups. In the PCOS group, the mean serum AMH level was 6.78 ng/mL and LH/FSH ratio was 1.53 while those of controls were 2.73 ng/mL and 0.53, respectively (p < .001). The most suitable compromise between 81% specificity and 79% sensitivity was obtained with a cutoff value of 3.75 ng/mL (26.78 pmol/L) serum AMH concentration for PCOS prediction, with an AUROC curve of 0.9691. CONCLUSION: Serum AMH cutoff level of 3.75 ng/mL was identified as a convenient gauge for the prediction of PCOS and an adjuvant to the Rotterdam criteria.

Purpose: To report the functional and radiological outcomes of scaphocapitate (SC) arthrodesis in the treatment of Kienböck disease. Methods: This meta-analysis was conducted with adherence to PRISMA guidelines. Google Scholar, PubMed, Cochrane and Virtual Health Library were searched from inception until November 2022. All original studies that investigated the outcomes of scaphocapitate fusion in Kienböck disease were included. Exclusion criteria were arthroscopically performed fusions, concomitant radial shortening, traumatic or other etiologies of lunate avascular necrosis, and studies published in languages other than English. Outcomes of interest were pre- and post-operative wrist range of motion, VAS score, functional scores, radiological outcomes, surgical technique, complication rate and reoperation rate. Results: The total number of included participants was 203 from 11 articles. The results showed no significant differences pre- and post-operatively in terms of wrist flexion, extension and ulnar deviation. However, there was a significant reduction in radial deviation after the surgery (WMD -2.30; 95% CI, -4.26 to -0.33). Moreover, a significant increase was noticed in grip strength in Kg (WMD 13.29; 95% CI, 3.21-23.37) and mmHg post-operatively (WMD 23.75; 95% CI, 17.56-29.94). In addition, the models demonstrated significant decrease in carpal height (WMD -0.01; 95% CI, -0.02 to 0.00), scapholunate angle (WMD -12.11; 95% CI, -20.46 to -3.77) and radioscaphoid angle after the surgery (WMD -12.09; 95% CI, -15.51 to -8.67). The pooled overall rate of complication and reoperation rates were 24% (95% CI, 6%-47%) and 14% (95% CI, 3%-31%), respectively. Conclusions: Scaphocapitate arthrodesis is an effective procedure for treatment of Kienböck disease. This procedure is associated with satisfactory functional outcomes and significant improvement in pain scores and grip strength. Further studies with larger sample sizes and reduced heterogeneity are needed for a better evaluation of the results. Clinical relevance: Scaphocapitate arthrodesis is a recommended surgery for Kienböck disease with satisfactory functional and radiological outcomes. However, patients should be counseled on the possible complications and reoperation rate.

AIMS: Mitochondrial perturbations are the major culprit of the inflammatory response during the initial phase of cerebral ischemia. The present study explored the neuroprotective effect of the mitochondrial-targeted antioxidant, Mitoquinol (MitoQ), against hippocampal neuronal loss in an experimental model of brain ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. MAIN METHODS: Rats were subjected to common carotid artery occlusion for 45 min, followed by reperfusion for 24 h. MitoQ (2 mg/kg; i.p daily) was administered for 7 successive days prior to the induction of brain ischemia. KEY FINDINGS: I/R rats exhibited hippocampal damage evidenced by aggravated mitochondrial oxidative stress, thereby enhancing mtROS and oxidized mtDNA, together with inhibiting mtGSH. Mitochondrial biogenesis and function were also affected, as reflected by the reduction of PGC-1α, TFAM, and NRF-1 levels, as well as loss of mitochondrial membrane potential (△Ψm (. These changes were associated with neuroinflammation, apoptosis, impairment of cognitive function as well as hippocampal neurodegenerative changes in histopathological examination. Notably, SIRT6 was suppressed. Pretreatment with MitoQ markedly potentiated SIRT6, modulated mitochondrial oxidative status and restored mitochondrial biogenesis and function. In addition, MitoQ alleviated the inflammatory mediators, TNF-α, IL-18, and IL-1ß and dampened GFAB immunoexpression along with downregulation of cleaved caspase-3 expression. Reversal of hippocampal function by MitoQ was accompanied by improved cognitive function and hippocampal morphological aberrations. SIGNIFICANCE: This study suggests that MitoQ preserved rats' hippocampi from I/R insults via maintenance of mitochondrial redox status, biogenesis, and activity along with mitigation of neuroinflammation and apoptosis, thereby regulating SIRT6.

Background: The advancement of biomedical research generates myriad healthcare-relevant data, including medical records and medical device maintenance information. The COVID-19 pandemic significantly affects the global mortality rate, creating an enormous demand for medical devices. As information technology has advanced, the concept of intelligent healthcare has steadily gained prominence. Smart healthcare utilises a new generation of information technologies, such as the Internet of Things (loT), big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence, to completely transform the traditional medical system. With the intention of presenting the concept of smart healthcare, a predictive model is proposed to predict medical device failure for intelligent management of healthcare services. Methods: Present healthcare device management can be improved by proposing a predictive machine learning model that prognosticates the tendency of medical device failures toward smart healthcare. The predictive model is developed based on 8,294 critical medical devices from 44 different types of equipment extracted from 15 healthcare facilities in Malaysia. The model classifies the device into three classes; (i) class 1, where the device is unlikely to fail within the first 3 years of purchase, (ii) class 2, where the device is likely to fail within 3 years from purchase date, and (iii) class 3 where the device is likely to fail more than 3 years after purchase. The goal is to establish a precise maintenance schedule and reduce maintenance and resource costs based on the time to the first failure event. A machine learning and deep learning technique were compared, and the best robust model for smart healthcare was proposed. Results: This study compares five algorithms in machine learning and three optimizers in deep learning techniques. The best optimized predictive model is based on ensemble classifier and SGDM optimizer, respectively. An ensemble classifier model produces 77.90%, 87.60%, and 75.39% for accuracy, specificity, and precision compared to 70.30%, 83.71%, and 67.15% for deep learning models. The ensemble classifier model improves to 79.50%, 88.36%, and 77.43% for accuracy, specificity, and precision after significant features are identified. The result concludes although machine learning has better accuracy than deep learning, more training time is required, which is 11.49 min instead of 1 min 5 s when deep learning is applied. The model accuracy shall be improved by introducing unstructured data from maintenance notes and is considered the author's future work because dealing with text data is time-consuming. The proposed model has proven to improve the devices' maintenance strategy with a Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) cost reduction of approximately MYR 326,330.88 per year. Therefore, the maintenance cost would drastically decrease if this smart predictive model is included in the healthcare management system.

BACKGROUND: The outcomes of Pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) have improved dramatically whereas outcomes for ALL amongst adolescents and young adults (AYA) have lagged behind. The introduction of pediatric-like regimens to manage adult ALL has shown promising outcomes across several analyses. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this analysis, we aimed to retrospectively compare the differences in outcomes among patients aged 14-40 years with Philadelphia-negative ALL treated with a Hyper-CVAD protocol versus a modified pediatric protocol. RESULTS: A total of 103 patients were identified with 58 (56.3%) in the modified ABFM group and 45 (43.7%) in the hyper-CVAD group. The median duration of follow-up for the cohort was 39 months (range 1-93). There were significantly lower rates of MRD persistence after consolidation (10.3% vs. 26.7%, P = 0.031) and transplantation (15.5% vs. 46.6%, P < 0.001) in the modified ABFM group. 5-year OS rates (83.9% vs. 65.3%, P = 0.036) and DFS rates (67.4% vs. 44%, P = 0.014) were higher in the modified ABFM groups. The incidence of grade 3 and 4 hepatotoxicity (24.1% vs. 13.3%, P < 0.001) and osteonecrosis (20.6% vs. 2.2%, P = 0.005) were higher in the modified ABFM group. CONCLUSION: Our analysis demonstrates that the use of a pediatric modified ABFM protocol demonstrated superior outcomes compared to the hyper-CVAD regimen in the treatment of Philadelphia-negative ALL amongst AYA patients. However, the modified ABFM protocol was associated with an increased risk of certain toxicities including high grade liver toxicity and osteonecrosis.
