RESUMO

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness, cost-effectiveness and feasibility of internet-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in the treatment of body dysmorphic disorder. METHODS: The systematic review was conducted from August 19 to September 22, 2023, and comprised search on Cochrane Library, Embase, Google Scholar, PubMed, PsycINFO and Web of Science databases using specific key words for studies published in the English language from 2010 onwards. Grey literature and pertinent conference proceedings were also searched to include as many studies as possible that investigated internet-based cognitive behavioural therapy in the treatment of body dysmorphic disorder. Data extraction was done, and the selected studies were subjected to quality assessment, followed by a narrative synthesis of the findings. RESULTS: Out of the 6,837 studies initially identified, 8(0.11%) were analysed in detail. Of the 8 studies, 4(50%) were RCTs, while 5(62.5%) had been conducted in Sweden. Therapist-guided internet-based cognitive behavioural therapy interventions consistently demonstrated efficacy with respect to reducing body dysmorphic disorder symptom severity, improving insight, and enhancing quality of life. Cost-effectiveness analyses highlighted the favourable economic aspect of internet-based cognitive behavioural therapy. Feasibility and acceptability were demonstrated by high participant engagement and satisfaction. Conclusion: Internet-based cognitive behavioural therapy showed promise in addressing the treatment gap in body dysmorphic disorder care, offering accessible, cost-effective and feasible interventions.

Ever since the emergence of magnetic resonance (MR)-guided radiotherapy, it is important to investigate the impact of the magnetic field on the dose enhancement in deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), when gold nanoparticles are used as radiosensitizers during radiotherapy. Gold nanoparticle-enhanced radiotherapy is known to enhance the dose deposition in the DNA, resulting in a double-strand break. In this study, the effects of the magnetic field on the dose enhancement factor (DER) for varying gold nanoparticle sizes, photon beam energies and magnetic field strengths and orientations were investigated using Geant4-DNA Monte Carlo simulations. Using a Monte Carlo model including a single gold nanoparticle with a photon beam source and DNA molecule on the left and right, it is demonstrated that as the gold nanoparticle size increased, the DER increased. However, as the photon beam energy decreased, an increase in the DER was detected. When a magnetic field was added to the simulation model, the DER was found to increase by 2.5-5% as different field strengths (0-2 T) and orientations (x-, y- and z-axis) were used for a 100 nm gold nanoparticle using a 50 keV photon beam. The DNA damage reflected by the DER increased slightly with the presence of the magnetic field. However, variations in the magnetic field strength and orientation did not change the DER significantly.

Respiratory viral infections have been a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Despite massive advancements in the virology field, no specific treatment exists for most respiratory viral infections. Approved therapies against respiratory viruses rely almost exclusively on synthetic drugs that have potential side effects, restricting their use. This review aims to present natural marine sulfated polysaccharides possessing promising antiviral activity against respiratory viruses that could be a safe alternative to synthetic broad-spectrum antiviral drugs. The antiviral properties of marine sulfated polysaccharides are presented according to their mechanism of action on different types and strains of respiratory viruses, and the potential limits of their use are discussed.

Many autoimmune disorders such as psoriasis lead to the alteration of skin components which generally manifests as unwanted topical symptoms. One of the most widely approved psoriasis-like animal models is the imiquimod (IMQ)-induced mouse model. This representation mimics various aspects of the complex cutaneous pathology and could be appropriate for testing topical treatment options. We perform a thorough characterization of this model by assessing some parameters that are not fully described in the literature, namely a precise description of skin disruption. It was evaluated by transepidermal water loss measurements and analyses of epidermis swelling as a consequence of keratinocyte hyperproliferation. The extent of neo-angiogenesis and hypervascularity in dermis were highlighted by immunostaining. Moreover, we investigated systemic inflammation through cytokines levels, spleen swelling and germinal centers appearance in draining lymph nodes. The severity of all parameters was correlated to IMQ concentration in skin samples. This study outlines new parameters of interest useful to assess this model. We highlight the skin barrier disruption and report a systemic inflammatory reaction occurring at distance both in spleen and lymph nodes. These newly identified biological endpoints could be exploited to investigate the efficacy of therapeutic candidates for psoriasis and more extensively for several other skin inflammatory diseases.
