RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The study aimed to assess the level of disaster response self-efficacy (DRSE) among nursing students in Bangladesh and examine the factors influencing their level of DRSE. METHODS: A cross-sectional study design was used for this research. A self-administered descriptive structured questionnaire was used to collect survey data from 573 students of nursing colleges in four districts: Chattogram, Dhaka, Khulna, and Rajshahi. The Bengali version of the DRSE Scale was adopted and used to measure the outcome variable. RESULTS: The nursing students exhibited a moderate level of disaster response self-efficacy (Mean = 3.63; SD = 0.73), as well as moderate levels of knowledge (Mean = 3.87; SD = 0.71), skills (Mean = 4.24; SD = 0.91), and preparedness (Mean = 4.31; SD = 0.76) in disaster management. Significant positive correlations were found between respondents' disaster knowledge (r = 0.447, p < 0.01), skills (r = 0.516, p < 0.01), and preparedness (r = 0.701, p < 0.01) with disaster response self-efficacy. Gender, age, having children in the household, post-basic BSc in nursing students, and disaster knowledge were significantly associated with nursing students' DRSE. Female respondents had a 0.27-unit lower DRSE (ß = -0.270 (95 % CI: -0.389, -0.115), p < 0.001) than male respondents. Besides, the respondents per unit increase in disaster knowledge occurred a 0.438-unit increase in DRSE (ß = 0.438 (95 % CI: 0.367, 0.510), p < 0.001). However, no statistically significant associations were found between the respondents' disaster experience and disaster-related training with their DRSE scores. CONCLUSION: Improving disaster management knowledge by including disaster management-related courses and organizing more training, drills, seminars, and workshops may improve their DRSE.

RESUMO

Social media has become integral to contemporary society, with online behaviors impacting individual experiences and the wider community. In Bangladesh, a developing country, SNS have played a pivotal role in the nation's digitalization efforts. This study explores the relationship between social capital theory, D&M Information System Model, subjective well-being, and SNS Citizenship Behavior (SCB) among active social media users in Bangladesh. Data was collected from 418 participants through an online survey, and hypotheses were tested using structural equation modeling. The findings indicate that the items of the D&M model positively influenced the aspects of social capital theory, excluding service quality. In contrast, social interaction ties and shared values were positively associated with SCB, although social trust did not exhibit a significant relationship. Additionally, subjective well-being mediated the connection between social capital and SCB. This research offers valuable insights into the factors influencing online prosocial behavior and provides practical implications for cultivating a positive communication culture in the digital era. The model proposed in this study holds significant implications for Bangladesh's policymakers and social networking site authorities, guiding their efforts in implementing technology-based initiatives.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Delirium is most often reported as present or absent. Patients with symptoms falling short of the diagnostic criteria for delirium fall into 'no delirium' or 'control' groups. This binary classification neglects individual symptoms and may be hindering identification of the pathophysiology underlying delirium. This systematic review investigates which individual symptoms of delirium are reported by studies of postoperative delirium in adults. METHODS: Medline, EMBASE and Web of Science databases were searched on 03 June 2021 and 06 April 2023. Two reviewers independently examined titles and abstracts. Each paper was screened in duplicate and conflicting decisions settled by consensus discussion. Data were extracted, qualitatively synthesised and narratively reported. All included studies were quality assessed. RESULTS: These searches yielded 4,367 results. After title and abstract screening, 694 full-text studies were reviewed, and 62 deemed eligible for inclusion. This review details 11,377 patients including 2,049 patients with delirium. In total, 78 differently described delirium symptoms were reported. The most reported symptoms were inattention (N = 29), disorientation (N = 27), psychomotor agitation/retardation (N = 22), hallucination (N = 22) and memory impairment (N = 18). Notably, psychomotor agitation and hallucinations are not listed in the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders-5-Text Revision delirium definition. CONCLUSIONS: The 78 symptoms reported in this systematic review cover domains of attention, awareness, disorientation and other cognitive changes. There is a lack of standardisation of terms, and many recorded symptoms are synonyms of each other. This systematic review provides a library of individual delirium symptoms, which may be used to inform future reporting.

RESUMO

The present study aimed to identify and characterize new sources of salt tolerance among 94 rice varieties from varied geographic origins. The genotypes were divided into five groups based on their morphological characteristics at both vegetative and reproductive stages using salinity scores from the Standard Evaluation System (SES). The experiment was designed as per CRD (Completely Randomized Design) with 2 sets of salinity treatments for 8 dS/meter and 12 dS/meter, respectively compared with one non-salinized control set. Using a Soil Plant Analysis Development (SPAD) meter, assessments of the apparent chlorophyll content (greenness) of the genotypes were done to comprehend the mechanism underlying their salt tolerance.  To evaluate molecular genetic diversity, a panel of 1 K RiCA SNP markers was employed. Utilizing TASSEL 5.0 software, 598 filtered SNPs were used for molecular analysis. Whole-genome association studies (GWAS) were also used to investigate panicle number per plant (pn, tiller number per plant (till), SPAD value (spad), sterility (percent) (str), plant height (ph) and panicle length (pl. It is noteworthy that these characteristics oversee conveying the visible signs of salt damage in rice. Based on genotype data, diversity analysis divided the germplasm groups into four distinct clusters (I, II, III and IV). For the traits studied, thirteen significant marker-trait associations were discovered. According to the phenotypic screening, seven germplasm genotypes namely Koijuri, Asha, Kajal, Kaliboro, Hanumanjata, Akundi and Dular, are highly tolerant to salinity stress. The greenness of these genotypes was found to be more stable over time, indicating that these genotypes are more resistant to stress. Regarding their tolerance levels, the GWAS analysis produced comparable results, supporting that salinity-tolerant genotypes having minor alleles in significant SNP positions showed more greenness during the stress period. The Manhattan plot demonstrated that at the designated significant SNP position, the highly tolerant genotypes shared common alleles. These genotypes could therefore be seen as important genomic resources for accelerating the development and release of rice varieties that are tolerant to salinity.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Hair and scalp disorders present a significant challenge in dermatology due to their clinical diversity and overlapping symptoms, often leading to misdiagnoses. Traditional diagnostic methods rely heavily on clinical expertise and are limited by subjectivity and accessibility, necessitating more advanced and accessible diagnostic tools. Artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning offer a promising solution for more accurate and efficient diagnosis. METHODS: The research employs a modified Xception model incorporating ReLU activation, dense layers, global average pooling, regularization and dropout layers. This deep learning approach is evaluated against existing models like VGG19, Inception, ResNet, and DenseNet for its efficacy in accurately diagnosing various hair and scalp disorders. RESULTS: The model achieved a 92% accuracy rate, significantly outperforming the comparative models, with accuracies ranging from 50% to 80%. Explainable AI techniques like Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping (Grad-CAM) and Saliency Map provided deeper insights into the model's decision-making process. CONCLUSION: This study emphasizes the potential of AI in dermatology, particularly in accurately diagnosing hair and scalp disorders. The superior accuracy and interpretability of the model represents a significant advancement in dermatological diagnostics, promising more reliable and accessible diagnostic methods.

RESUMO

Salinity variations are the main reason for rice yield fluctuations in salt-prone regions throughout the dry season (Boro season). Plant breeders must produce new rice varieties that are more productive, salt tolerant, and stable across a variety of settings to ensure Bangladesh's food sustainability. To assess the yield and stability, we used fifteen rice genotypes containing two tolerant checks BRRI dhan67, Binadhan-10 and the popular Boro rice variety BRRI dhan28 in different salinity "hotspot" in three successive years followed by additive main effects and multiplicative interaction (AMMI) model utilizing a randomized complete block (RCB) design with two replications. Parents selection was done based on estimated breeding values (EBVs). Eight parents with high EBVs (IR83484-3-B-7-1-1-1, IR87870-6-1-1-1-1-B, BR8992-B-18-2-26, HHZ5-DT20-DT2-DT1, HHZ12-SAL2-Y3-Y2, BR8980-B-1-3-5, BRRI dhan67, and Binadhan-10) might be used to develop new segregating breeding materials. Based on farmer preferences and grain acceptability, three genotypes (IR83484-3-B-7-1-1-1, HHZ5-DT20-DT2-DT1, and HHZ12-SAL2-Y3-Y2) were the winning and best ones. The above three genotypes in the proposed variety trial showed significantly higher yields than the respective check varieties, high salinity tolerance ability, and good grain quality parameters. Among them, HHZ5-DT20-DT2-DT1 and IR83484-3-B-7-1-1-1 harbored eight and four QTL/genes that regulate the valuable traits revealed through 20 SNP genotyping. Finally, two genotypes IR83484-3-B-7-1-1-1 and HHZ5-DT20-DT2-DT1 were released as high salinity-tolerant rice varieties BRRI dhan97 and BRRI dhan99, respectively in Bangladesh for commercial cultivation for sustaining food security and sustainability.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Sexual well-being is a key determinant of quality of life. Sexual dysfunction in patients with metastatic breast cancer (MBC) is understudied. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients were eligible for this study if they participated in the Mayo Clinic Breast Disease Registry (MCBDR), had a diagnosis of de novo MBC, and responded to a question about sexual dysfunction at the baseline MCBDR survey. Participants reported their sexual dysfunction on a scale of 0 (no dysfunction) to 10 (severe dysfunction) at baseline and then annually for 4 years. Participants answered additional sexual symptom questions in years 2 and 4. Associations between patient attributes and the presence and severity of sexual dysfunction, changes in sexual dysfunction from baseline to subsequent surveys, and associations between specific sexual symptoms and severity of sexual dysfunction were assessed. RESULTS: One hundred three patients with de novo MBC answered the sexual dysfunction question at baseline. The prevalence of any sexual dysfunction (score of 1-10) was 56.3% at baseline (n = 103), 57.1 % at year 1 (n = 77), 80.4% at year 2 (n = 46), 65.8% at year 3 (n = 38), and 85% at year 4 (n = 20). Vaginal dryness was reported by approximately 49% and 39% of patients in years 2 and 4 respectively. Vaginal dryness was associated with higher severity of sexual dysfunction. CONCLUSIONS: Self-reported sexual dysfunction is frequent in women with de novo MBC. Vaginal dryness is a frequently reported treatable symptom associated with higher severity of sexual dysfunction. Clinicians should assess patients with MBC for sexual dysfunction and discuss potential treatment strategies.

RESUMO

This work highlights the development of a conductive elastomer (CE) based electrophoretic platform that enables the transfer of charged molecules from a solid-state CE electrode directly to targeted tissues. Using an elastomer-based electrode containing poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) nanowires, controlled electrophoretic delivery of methylene blue (MB) and fluorescein (FLSC) was achieved with applied voltage. Electroactive release of positively charged MB and negatively charged FLSC achieved 33.19 ± 6.47 µg release of MB and 22.36 ± 3.05 µg release of FLSC, a 24 and 20-fold increase in comparison to inhibitory voltages over 1 h. Additionally, selective, and sequential release of the two oppositely charged molecules from a single CE device was demonstrated, showing the potential of this device to be used in multi-drug treatments.

RESUMO

The current study aimed to identify the survival of bio-control bacteria with antifungal activity against Fusarium oxysporum and assess their growth promoting activity in wheat crop field conditions. To evaluate the fungicidal activities of isolated bacteria using the dual culture method, both qualitative and quantitative bioassays were performed. Plant Growth Promoting activities such as Indole 3-Acetic Acid (IAA), phosphate solubilization, Hydrogen cyanide (HCN), and Siderophore production were assessed for three biocontrol bacterial isolates (BCB 07, BCB16, and BCB 83) out of 180 with 70% antagonistic activity against Fusarium oxysporum. Chitinase, protease, and cellulase interaction in isolates was also tested. BCB16 was selected as it had 70% antagonist activity against F. oxysporum but also had the highest PGPR (Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria) traits when compared to the other two isolates. BCB16 was also tested for survival in talc powder and in wheat crop field conditions. Even after 4 months in talc powder, the survival rate remained stable. In a wheat crop field, BCB16 reduced the disease incidence of Fusarium oxysporum by 54.38%. When compared to fungus alone treatment, BCB16 increased average yield by 57% alone and 32% in challenged conditions. BCB16 was identified molecularly using the 16s rRNA gene. Bacillus amyloliquefaciens shared 97% of the deduced sequence. The sequence was submitted to genbank and assigned the accession number OM333889. Bacillus amyloliquefaciens has the potential to be used in the field as an alternative to synthetic fungicides against Fusarium oxysporum.

RESUMO

Monkeypox, a viral disease that is caused by monkeypox virus and occurs mainly in central and western Africa. However, recently it is spreading worldwide and took the focus of the scientific world towards it. Therefore, we made an attempt to cluster all the related information that may make it easy for the researchers to get the information easily and carry out their research smoothly to find prophylaxis against this emerging virus. There are very few researches found available on monkeypox. Almost all the studies were focused on smallpox virus and the recommended vaccines and therapeutics for monkeypox virus were originally developed for smallpox virus. Though these are recommended for emergency cases, they are not fully effective and specific against monkeypox. For this, here we also took the help of bioinformatics tools to screen potential drug candidates against this growing burden. Some potential antiviral plant metabolites, inhibitors and available drugs were scrutinized that can block the essential survival proteins of this virus. All the compounds Amentoflavone, Pseudohypericin, Adefovirdipiboxil, Fialuridin, Novobiocin and Ofloxacin showed elite binding efficiency with suitable ADME properties and Amentoflavone and Pseudohypericin showed stability in MD simulation study indicating their potency as probable drugs against this emerging virus.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. RESUMO

Background: Cervical cancer (CC) is the second most common type of female malignancy in Bangladesh. Polymorphisms in the CYP1A1 gene have been reported to be associated with CC in different populations. This case-control study with meta-analysis was undertaken to assess the relation of CYP1A1 rs4646903 and rs1048943 polymorphisms with the susceptibility of CC. Methods: A total of 185 CC patients and 220 controls were recruited, and the PCR-RFLP (Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism) technique was applied for genotyping. Again, 42 eligible studies (24 with rs4646903 and 18 with rs1048943) were included for meta-analysis, and RevMan 5.3 and the MetaGenyo web-based tool were used. Results: The rs4646903 polymorphism was significantly linked with CC in all association models, namely, additive 1, additive 2, dominant, recessive, overdominant, and allele models (OR = 2.41, 4.75, 2.67, 3.61, 2.13, and 2.44 with corresponding 95% CI = 1.55-3.76, 1.81-12.45, 1.75-4.07, 1.39-9.35, 1.38-3.30, and 1.71-3.48, respectively). On the contrary, rs1048943 showed no association (p > 0.05) with CC. Haplotype analysis revealed AT and AC haplotypes significantly decreased (OR = 0.45) and increased (OR = 4.86) CC risk, respectively, and SNPs are in strong linkage disequilibrium (D' = 0.912, r2 = 0.448). Again, rs4646903 carriers with a contraception history and >5 years of taking contraceptives showed an enhanced risk of CC (OR = 2.39, OR = 3.05). Besides, rs1048943 carriers aged >40 years (OR = 0.44), conceived first child aged ≤18 years (OR = 3.45), and history of contraceptives (OR = 2.18) were significantly linked with CC. Our meta-analysis found that for CYP1A1 rs4646903 codominant 1 (COD 1), codominant 2 (COD 2), codominant 3 (COD 3), dominant model (DM), recessive model (RM), and allele model (AM) in Caucasians and overdominant model (OD) in the overall population are associated with an elevated risk of CC, whereas rs1048943 is also associated with CC in overall, Caucasians and Asians in some genetic models. Conclusion: Our case-control study and meta-analysis summarize that CYP1A1 rs4646903 and rs1048943 polymorphisms may be correlated with cervical cancer.

RESUMO

High-throughput tests for early cancer detection can revolutionize public health and reduce cancer morbidity and mortality. Here we show a DNA methylation signature for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) detection in liquid biopsies, distinct from normal tissues and blood profiles. We developed a classifier using four CpG sites, validated in TCGA HCC data. A single F12 gene CpG site effectively differentiates HCC samples from other blood samples, normal tissues, and non-HCC tumors in TCGA and GEO data repositories. The markers were validated in a separate plasma sample dataset from HCC patients and controls. We designed a high-throughput assay using next-generation sequencing and multiplexing techniques, analyzing plasma samples from 554 clinical study participants, including HCC patients, non-HCC cancers, chronic hepatitis B, and healthy controls. HCC detection sensitivity was 84.5% at 95% specificity and 0.94 AUC. Implementing this assay for high-risk individuals could significantly decrease HCC morbidity and mortality.

RESUMO

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a very heterogeneous and aggressive breast cancer subtype with a high risk of mortality, even if diagnosed early. The mainstay of early-stage breast cancer includes systemic chemotherapy and surgery, with or without radiation therapy. More recently, immunotherapy is approved to treat TNBC, but managing immune-rated adverse events while balancing efficacy is a challenge. The purpose of this review is to highlight the current treatment recommendations for early-stage TNBC and the management of immunotherapy toxicities.

RESUMO

Designing a functional and efficient blood-clotting agent is a major challenge. In this research, hemostatic scaffolds (GSp) were prepared from the superabsorbent, inter-crosslinked polymer sodium polyacrylate (Sp) bound to a natural protein gelatin (G) loaded with thrombin (Th) by a cost-effective freeze-drying method. Five compositions were grafted (GSp0.0, Gsp0.1, GSp0.2, GSp0.3, GSp0.3-Th) where the concentration of Sp varied but the ratios of G remained the same. The fundamental physical characteristics that increased the amounts of Sp with G gave synergistic effects after interacting with thrombin. Due to the presence of superabsorbent polymer (SAP) swelling capacities in GSp0.3 and GSp0.3-Th surge forward 6265% and 6948%, respectively. Pore sizes became uniform and larger (ranging ≤ 300 µm) and well-interconnected. The water-contact angle declined in GSp0.3 and GSp0.3-Th to 75.73 ± 1.097 and 75.33 ± 0.8342 degrees, respectively, thus increasing hydrophilicity. The pH difference was found to be insignificant as well. In addition, an evaluation of the scaffold in in vitro biocompatibility with the L929 cell line showed cell viability >80%, so the samples were nontoxic and produced a favorable environment for cell proliferation. The composite GSp0.3-Th revealed the lowest HR (%) (2.601%), and the in vivo blood-clotting time (s) and blood loss (gm) supported hemostasis. Overall, the results showed that a novel GSp0.3-Th scaffold can be a potential candidate as a hemostatic agent.

RESUMO

With the increasing global population, saving crops from diseases caused by different kinds of bacteria, fungi, viruses, and nematodes is essential. Potato is affected by various diseases, destroying many crops in the field and storage. In this study, we developed potato lines resistant to fungi and viruses, Potato Virus X (PVX) and Potato Virus Y (PVY), by inoculating chitinase for fungi and shRNA designed against the mRNA of the coat protein of PVX and PVY, respectively. The construct was developed using the pCAMBIA2301 vector and transformed into AGB-R (red skin) potato cultivar using Agrobacterium tumefaciens. The crude protein extract of the transgenic potato plant inhibited the growth of Fusarium oxysporum from ~13 to 63%. The detached leaf assay of the transgenic line (SP-21) showed decreased necrotic spots compared to the non-transgenic control when challenged with Fusarium oxysporum. The transgenic line, SP-21, showed maximum knockdown when challenged with PVX and PVY, i.e., 89 and 86%, while transgenic line SP-148 showed 68 and 70% knockdown in the PVX- and PVY-challenged conditions, respectively. It is concluded from this study that the developed transgenic potato cultivar AGB-R showed resistance against fungi and viruses (PVX and PVY).

RESUMO

Oncolytic virus therapy has shown activity against primary melanomas; however, its efficacy in brain metastases remains challenging, mainly because of the delivery and immunosuppressive nature of tumors in the brain. To address this challenge, we first established PTEN-deficient melanoma brain metastasis mouse models and characterized them to be more immunosuppressive compared with primary melanoma, mimicking the clinical settings. Next, we developed an allogeneic twin stem cell (TSC) system composed of two tumor-targeting stem cell (SC) populations. One SC was loaded with oncolytic herpes simplex virus (oHSV), and the other SC was CRISPR-Cas9 gene-edited to knock out nectin 1 (N1) receptor (N1KO) to acquire resistance to oHSV and release immunomodulators, such as granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF). Using mouse models of brain metastatic BRAFV600E/PTEN-/- and BRAFV600E/wt/PTEN-/- mutant melanomas, we show that locoregional delivery of TSCs releasing oHSV and GM-CSF (TSC-G) activated dendritic cell- and T cell-mediated immune responses. In addition, our strategy exhibited greater therapeutic efficacy when compared with the existing oncolytic viral therapeutic approaches. Moreover, the TSCs composed of SC-oHSV and SCN1KO-releasing GM-CSF and single-chain variable fragment anti-PD-1 (TSC-G/P) had therapeutic efficacy in both syngeneic and patient-derived humanized mouse models of leptomeningeal metastasis. Our findings provide a promising allogeneic SC-based immunotherapeutic strategy against melanomas in the CNS and a road map toward clinical translation.

RESUMO

Drought is recognized as a paramount threat to sustainable agricultural productivity. This threat has grown more severe in the age of global climate change. As a result, finding a long-term solution to increase plants' tolerance to drought stress has been a key research focus. Applications of chemicals such as zinc (Zn) may provide a simpler, less time-consuming, and effective technique for boosting the plant's resilience to drought. The present study gathers persuasive evidence on the potential roles of zinc sulphate (ZnSO4·7H2O; 1.0 g Kg-1 soil) and zinc oxide (ZnO; 1.0 g Kg-1 soil) in promoting tolerance of cotton plants exposed to drought at the first square stage, by exploring various physiological, morphological, and biochemical features. Soil supplementation of ZnSO4 or ZnO to cotton plants improved their shoot biomass, root dry weight, leaf area, photosynthetic performance, and water-use efficiency under drought stress. Zn application further reduced the drought-induced accumulations of H2O2 and malondialdehyde, and electrolyte leakage in stressed plants. Antioxidant assays revealed that Zn supplements, particularly ZnSO4, reduced reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation by increasing the activities of a range of ROS quenchers, such as catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, glutathione S-transferase, and guaiacol peroxidase, to protect the plants against ROS-induced oxidative damage during drought stress. Increased leaf relative water contents along with increased water-soluble protein contents may indicate the role of Zn in improving the plant's water status under water-deficient conditions. The results of the current study also suggested that, in general, ZnSO4 supplementation more effectively increased cotton drought tolerance than ZnO supplementation, thereby suggesting ZnSO4 as a potential chemical to curtail drought-induced detrimental effects in water-limited soil conditions.

RESUMO

Breast cancer is considered the most frequent cause of mortality from malignancy among females. Fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 (FGFR2) gene polymorphisms are highly related to the risk of breast cancer. However, no investigation has been carried out to determine the association of FGFR2 gene polymorphisms in the Bangladeshi population. Based on polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP), this study was performed to evaluate the association of FGFR2 (rs1219648, rs2420946, and rs2981582) variants in 446 Bangladeshi women (226 cases and 220 controls). A significant association of the FGFR2 rs1219648 variant with breast malignancy was reported in additive model 1 (aOR = 2.87, p < 0.0001), additive model 2 (aOR = 5.62, p < 0.0001), the dominant model (aOR = 2.87, p < 0.0001), the recessive model (aOR = 4.04, p < 0.0001), and the allelic model (OR = 2.16, p < 0.0001). This investigation also explored the significant association of the rs2981582 variant with the risk of breast cancer in additive model 2 (aOR = 2. 60, p = 0.010), the recessive model (aOR = 2.47, p = 0.006), and the allelic model (OR = 1.39, p = 0.016). However, the FGFR2 rs2420946 polymorphism showed no association with breast cancer except in the overdominant model (aOR = 0.62, p = 0.048). Furthermore, GTT (p < 0.0001) haplotypes showed a correlation with breast cancer risk, and all variants showed strong linkage disequilibrium. Moreover, in silico gene expression analysis showed that the FGFR2 level was upregulated in BC tissues compared to healthy tissues. This study confirms the association of FGFR2 polymorphisms with breast cancer risk.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Assessing communication skills is necessary to facilitate pro-communication skills development programs. The 23-item Communication Scale (CS) is the most widely used tool for this purpose. Since there is a scarcity of validated tools to assess communication skills among Bangladeshi adolescents, we translated this questionnaire into Bangla and validated it on a Bangladeshi adolescent sample. METHODS: We conducted two independent rounds of large-scale surveys that yielded data from 621 Bangladeshi adolescents (AgeMean ± SD = 16.44 ± 1.32), of which 378 were males, and 244 were females. The participants completed the Bangla CS. A subset of the participants (n = 160) also completed the Bangla Beck's Hopelessness Scale (BBHS)-a measure of hopelessness. RESULTS: Exploratory factor analysis on the first-round data (n = 340) discarded six items and retained 17 items and revealed a unidimensional factor structure. Confirmatory Factor Analysis on the second-round data (n = 281) supported the unidimensional structure (CFI = 0.94, TLI = 0.93). Measurement invariance analysis indicated that the unidimensional structure was robust across gender (143 males vs 139 females). The scale exhibited a negative correlation with BBHS revealing the scale's concurrent validity (r = - 0.16, p < 0.01). The scale exhibited satisfactory reliability (ωt = 0.79). The Item Response Theory-based analysis revealed that the scale was reliable (> 0.70) across a sizable range of communication skills continuum (θ = - 5.3 to 2.3) and had excellent marginal reliability (0.80). All items had adequate discriminating power (0.90 ± 0.20). CONCLUSION: The psychometric analysis of the 17-item Bangla-CS indicated that the scale is reliable and valid. We recommend that researchers and mental health practitioners utilize this scale to evaluate communication skills among Bangladeshi adolescents.

RESUMO

DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) N4-methylcytosine (4mC), a kind of epigenetic modification of DNA, is important for modifying gene functions, such as protein interactions, conformation, and stability in DNA, as well as for the control of gene expression throughout cell development and genomic imprinting. This simply plays a crucial role in the restriction-modification system. To further understand the function and regulation mechanism of 4mC, it is essential to precisely locate the 4mC site and detect its chromosomal distribution. This research aims to design an efficient and high-throughput discriminative intelligent computational system using the natural language processing method "word2vec" and a multi-configured 1D convolution neural network (1D CNN) to predict 4mC sites. In this article, we propose a grid search-based multi-layer dynamic ensemble system (GS-MLDS) that can enhance existing knowledge of each level. Each layer uses a grid search-based weight searching approach to find the optimal accuracy while minimizing computation time and additional layers. We have used eight publicly available benchmark datasets collected from different sources to test the proposed model's efficiency. Accuracy results in test operations were obtained as follows: 0.978, 0.954, 0.944, 0.961, 0.950, 0.973, 0.948, 0.952, 0.961, and 0.980. The proposed model has also been compared to 16 distinct models, indicating that it can accurately predict 4mC.
