OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical efficacy and evaluate risk factors for suction curettage (SC) and hysteroscopy in the treatment of type I and II cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP). METHODS: This was a retrospective study including 100 women diagnosed with type I/II CSP. Patients were treated with either ultrasound-guided SC (SC group) or hysteroscopy resection (surgery group). The success rates, mean operation time, hospitalization duration, hospitalization cost, risk factors, adverse events, and complications were analyzed. RESULTS: The success rate of the SC and surgery groups were 85% and 100%, respectively, and the difference was statistically significant (P = 0.032). There was one case of type I CSP and eight cases of type II CSP that failed SC treatment. No failed cases were found in the surgery group. Analysis of the causes of treatment failure revealed that diameter of the gestational sac was a risk factor for SC failure (odds ratio, 19.66 [95% confidence interval {CI}, 1.70-227.72], P = 0.017). Comparing the clinical outcomes between the SC and surgery groups, although the mean operation time of the SC group was significantly shorter than the surgery group (15 [CI, 15-20] vs. 30 [CI, 27-40], P = 0.001), the cost and duration of hospitalization were significantly lower in the surgery group than that in the SC group. No significant differences were observed for adverse events and complications between the two groups (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Hysteroscopy is an effective and economical method for treating type I/II CSP. Moreover, SC is not recommended for patients with type I/II CSP with a gestation age ≥8 weeks.

BACKGROUND: Primary hepatic Burkitt lymphoma (PHBL) in children is an extremely rare hepatic malignancy with a dismal prognosis, unless it is detected and treated promptly. An 11-year-old child with abdominal pain was admitted to our hospital. No notable abnormalities were found during his physical examination or laboratory workup, but the abdominal computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging both indicated a malignant hepatic mass measuring 9.2 × 7.1 × 7.5 cm in size. His postoperative pathology revealed an unexpected primary hepatic Burkitt lymphoma following a laparoscopic liver lobectomy. He then received rituximab and intense multi-agent chemotherapy as treatment. Despite post-chemotherapy bone marrow suppression, the patient eventually made a full recovery and had a good overall state. CONCLUSION: In this study, we describe a rare case of pediatric primary hepatic Burkitt lymphoma and review the literature on clinical features, diagnosis, and treatment for primary hepatic Burkitt lymphoma in children. We stress that this diagnosis should be taken into account in the absence of other single hepatic lesions or primary tumors of hematological disorders, particularly when there is a normal AFP level.

Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a common pathogen causing respiratory disease in children. We sought to investigate the epidemiology of M. pneumoniae among outpatient children with mild respiratory tract infections (RTIs) during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Eligible patients were prospectively enrolled from January 2020 to June 2021. Throat swabs were tested for M. pneumoniae RNA. M. pneumoniae IgM was tested by a colloidal gold assay. Macrolide resistance and the effect of the COVID-19 countermeasures on M. pneumoniae prevalence were assessed. Symptom scores, treatments, and outcomes were evaluated. Eight hundred sixty-two eligible children at 15 centers in China were enrolled. M. pneumoniae was detected in 78 (9.0%) patients. Seasonally, M. pneumoniae peaked in the first spring and dropped dramatically to extremely low levels over time until the next summer. Decreases in COVID-19 prevalence were significantly associated with decreases in M. pneumoniae prevalence (r = 0.76, P = 0.001). The macrolide resistance rate was 7.7%. The overall sensitivity and specificity of the colloidal gold assay used in determining M. pneumoniae infection were 32.1% and 77.9%, respectively. No more benefits for improving the severity of symptoms and outcomes were observed in M. pneumoniae-infected patients treated with a macrolide than in those not treated with a macrolide during follow-up. The prevalences of M. pneumoniae and macrolide resistance in outpatient children with mild RTIs were at low levels in the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic but may have rebounded recently. The colloidal gold assay for M. pneumoniae IgM may be not appropriate for diagnosis of M. pneumoniae infection. Macrolides should be used with caution among outpatients with mild RTIs. IMPORTANCE This is the first and largest prospective, multicenter, active, population-based surveillance study of the epidemiology of Mycoplasma pneumoniae among outpatient children with mild respiratory tract infections (RTIs) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nationwide measures like strict face mask wearing and restrictions on population movement implemented to prevent the spread of COVID-19 might also effectively prevent the spread of M. pneumoniae. The prevalence of M. pneumoniae and the proportion of drug-resistant M. pneumoniae isolates in outpatient children with mild RTIs were at low levels in the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic but may have rebounded recently. The colloidal gold assay for M. pneumoniae IgM may be not appropriate for screening and diagnosis of M. pneumoniae infection. Macrolides should be used with caution among outpatients with mild RTIs.

We propose a facile synthesis approach for nitrogen doped porous carbon and demonstrate a novel pore-forming method that iron nanoclusters act as a template or activator at different carbonization temperatures based on Fe3+-poly(4-vinyipyridine) (P4VP) coordination. P4VP will completely decompose even in an inert atmosphere, but under the coordination and catalysis of Fe3+, it can be converted to carbon at a very low temperature (400 °C). The aggregation of iron nanoclusters in the carbonization process showed different pore-forming methods at different temperatures. The as-prepared materials possess high specific surface area (up to 1211 m2 g-1), large pore volume (up to 0.96 cm3 g-1), narrow microporosity, and high N content (up to 9.9 wt %). Due to these unique features, the materials show high CO2 uptake capacity and excellent selectivity for CO2/N2 separation. The CO2 uptake capacity of NDPC-2-600 is up to 6.8 and 4.3 mmol g-1 at 0 and 25 °C; the CO2/N2 (0.15/0.85) selectivity at 0 and 25 °C also reaches 18.4 and 15.2, respectively.
