RESUMO

Cancer remains a major cause of death globally. Esophageal cancer is one of the most aggressive malignancies and has limited treatment options, thus resulting in high morbidity and mortality. We reported the case of a 65-year-old patient who came to the hospital for abdominal distension and loss of appetite. The patient's endoscopy before admission indicated the possibility of esophageal cancer. After admission, an enhanced computed tomography (CT) scan of the chest and abdomen revealed esophageal stenosis and a liver tumor. The patient's final diagnosis was esophageal cancer concurrent with liver cancer, and a series of treatments were administered. However, esophageal cancer with liver cancer is rare. The patient was treated with targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and transcatheter arterial chemoembolization simultaneously. Then, regular follow-up was performed at 1 month, and at 3 months, the patient was discharged after immunotherapy. We hope that through this case, we can improve the clinical understanding of these two types of tumors and thereby contribute to their treatment. Research and collaboration among health-care professionals are essential for improving tumor diagnosis and treatment.

RESUMO

Rising wide bandgap semiconductor gallium oxide (Ga2O3) displays huge potential in performing solar-blind photodetection, with constraint in narrow detection wavebands in nature, whereas bandgap modulation through the introduction of exotic atoms into Ga2O3 has an essential effect on the tunable performance of photodetectors and the detection waveband. Here, a novel method for the preparation of (InxGa1-x)2O3 alloy films is proposed, and the continuous tuning of the bandgap in the range of 3.70-4.99 eV is achieved by varying the In-doping content. Alloy-based metal-semiconductor-metal photodetectors were fabricated, achieving a peak responsivity between 254 and 295 nm, superior performance compared to Ga2O3 photodetectors, with a photo-to-dark current ratio as high as 106, and a better optical image-sensing capability. This study offers new insight for high-performance detection of full solar-blind waveband ultraviolet light.

The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) remains a public health concern and a subject of active research effort. Development of pre-clinical animal models is critical to study viral-host interaction, tissue tropism, disease mechanisms, therapeutic approaches, and long-term sequelae of infection. Here, we report two mouse models for studying SARS-CoV-2: A knock-in mAce2F83Y,H353K mouse that expresses a mouse-human hybrid form of the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor under the endogenous mouse Ace2 promoter, and a Rosa26 conditional knock-in mouse carrying the human ACE2 allele (Rosa26hACE2). Although the mAce2F83Y,H353K mice were susceptible to intranasal inoculation with SARS-CoV-2, they did not show gross phenotypic abnormalities. Next, we generated a Rosa26hACE2;CMV-Cre mouse line that ubiquitously expresses the human ACE2 receptor. By day 3 post infection with SARS-CoV-2, Rosa26hACE2;CMV-Cre mice showed significant weight loss, a variable degree of alveolar wall thickening and reduced survival rates. Viral load measurements confirmed inoculation in lung and brain tissues of infected Rosa26hACE2;CMV-Cre mice. The phenotypic spectrum displayed by our different mouse models translates to the broad range of clinical symptoms seen in the human patients and can serve as a resource for the community to model and explore both treatment strategies and long-term consequences of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the vision recovery, reconstruction of binocular visual function, and influencing factors after multifocal intraocular lens implantation in children with unilateral congenital cataracts. SETTING: University hospital. DESIGN: Prospective clinical study. METHODS: In the prospective clinical study, 55 children aged 3 to 14 with unilateral congenital cataracts received multifocal intraocular lenses (TECNIS ZMB00) posterior optic capture from 2019 to 2022. Corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA; 5 m), distance-corrected intermediate visual acuity (DCIVA; 66 cm), distance-corrected near visual acuity (DCNVA; 33 cm), stereoscopic vision, visual quality (objective scatter index [OSI] and modulation transfer function [MTF]), axial length (AL), keratometry (K), and contrast sensitivity (CS), as well as postoperative occlusion compliance were evaluated before and after surgery. RESULTS: At the final follow-up, 90.91% (50/55) patients showed significant improvement in visual acuity (VA) after surgery. CDVA, DCIVA and DCNVA were 0.23 ± 0.17, 0.39 ± 0.15, and 0.44 ± 0.15 logMAR, respectively. 69.09% (38/55) patients achieved good VA (better than 0.3 logMAR).52.76% (25/48) patients had a positive Titmus test. OSI and MTF were 1.24 ± 0.91 and 42.45 ± 12.30, respectively. 73.68% (28/38) of the patients (better than 0.3 logMAR) underwent strict occlusion therapy. Postoperative VA is correlated with preoperative CDVA ( r = -0.829, P < .001), corneal astigmatism ( r = 0.384, P = .036), △AL (difference between the cataract eyes and contralateral eyes, r = -0.490, P = .006), and occlusion compliance ( r = -0.806, P < .001). CONCLUSIONS: Multifocal intraocular lens implantation could obtain relatively satisfactory VA (CDVA, DCIVA and DCNVA) and the binocular visual function of children with unilateral congenital cataracts. Postoperative VA is related to preoperative VA, corneal astigmatism, △AL, and occlusion compliance.

In this work, a solar-blind UV metal-semiconductor Schottky photodiode array is constructed by using metalorganic chemical vapor deposition grown ε-Ga2O3 thin film, possessing high-performance and self-powered characteristics, toward dual-mode (self-powered and biased modes) binary light communication. For the array unit, the responsivity, specific detectivity, and external quantum efficiency are 30.8 A/W/6.3 × 10-2 A/W, 1.51 × 104%/30.9%, 1.28 × 1014/5.4 × 1012 Jones for biased (-10 V)/self-powered operation. The rise and decay time are 0.19 and 7.96 ms at biased modes, respectively, suggesting an ability to trace fast light signal. As an array, the deviation of photocurrent is only 4.3%, highlighting the importance of accurate information communication. Through certain definition of "1/0" binary digital information, the "NY" and "IC" characters are communicated to illustrate the self-powered and biased modes by right of ASCII codes, based on the prepared ε-Ga2O3 solar-blind UV Schottky photodiode array. This work made dual-mode binary deep-UV light communication come true and may well guide the development of UV optoelectronics.

Low-dimensional CsPbBr3 perovskite materials have gained widespread attention, derived from their remarkable properties and potential for numerous optoelectronic applications. Herein, the sample of CsPbBr3 microwires were prepared horizontally onto n-type InGaN film substrate using an in-plane solution growth method. The resulting CsPbBr3 microwire/InGaN heterojunction allows for the achievement of a highly sensitive and broadband photodetector. Particularly for the implementation in a self-supplying manner, the best-performing photodetector can achieve a superior On/Off ratio of 4.6×105, the largest responsivity ∼ 800.0 mA/W, a maximum detectivity surpassing 4.6× 1012 Jones, and a high external quantum efficiency approaching 86.5% upon 405 nm light illumination. A rapid response time (∼ 4.48 ms/7.68 ms) was also achieved. The as-designed CsPbBr3 microwire/InGaN heterojunction device without any encapsulation exhibits superior comprehensive stability. Besides, the device featuring as a single pixel imaging unit can readily detect simple images under broadband light illumination with a high spatial resolution, acknowledging its outstanding imaging capability. The robust photodetection properties could be derived from the intense absorption of CsPbBr3 MWs and high-efficiency charge carriers transporting toward the in-situ formed CsPbBr3/InGaN heterointerface. The results may offer an available strategy for the in-situ construction of best-performing low-dimensional perovskite heterojunction optoelectronic devices.

SnO2 has been extensively applied in the fields of optoelectronic devices because of its large band gap, high exciton binding energy, and outstanding optical/electrical properties. However, its applications in ultraviolet light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are still hindered by the dipole-forbidden rule. Herein, the dipole-forbidden rule can be conquered by synthesizing Sb-incorporated SnO2 microwires (SnO2:Sb MWs), which are examined by ultraviolet photoluminescence emitting at 363.2 nm and a line width of 11.3 nm. Subsequently, a highly monochromatic ultraviolet light-emitting diode (LED) based on a SnO2:Sb MW heterojunction was constructed with a p-GaN film serving as the hole supplier. In the LED, the presence of a MgO intermediate layer can modulate carrier transport and recombination path, thus achieving band-edge optical transition in the SnO2:Sb MW. As the LED is modified using Ag nanowires, electrical properties, especially for the hole injection efficiency, were dramatically boosted, contributing significantly to the device high brightness. The LED emits at 365.9 nm and a line width of 12.4 nm. Therefore, we have realized a high-brightness and narrow-band ultraviolet LED with the shortest peak wavelength never seen in previously reported SnO2 LEDs. This work will promote the potential applications of low-dimensional SnO2 optoelectronic devices and provide an effective exemplification to overcome the dipole-forbidden rule in metal-oxide materials with "forbidden" energy gaps.

Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) can cause various gynecological diseases, create a long-term inflammatory immune microenvironment, and induce the occurrence of cervical tumors. However, the prevalence of HPV is species-specific in different eras or in different countries and regions. This paper aimed to investigate the characteristics of HPV infection in the Xuhui District, Shanghai City, China. Methods: We collected HPV data from 6,760 female testers, focusing on the younger population for data analysis. We focused more on the HPV subtypes to which young women were susceptible, performed t-Distributed Stochastic Neighbor Embedding (TSNE) analysis to screen for characteristic subtypes, and compared the prevalent subtypes lacking effective vaccine protection. Results: HPV infection exhibited a trend of affecting a younger population, and eight subtypes were more likely to occur in young people. HPV43, 51, 53, and 59 showed a higher incidence and lacked vaccine protection. We performed TSNE dimensionality reduction analysis to organize the HPV data. The results indicated that HPV16, 18, and 51 are characteristic subtypes in the younger population. The Thinprep cytologic test (TCT) also revealed that the infection with HPV43, 51, 53, and 59 also triggers significant pathological phenotypes. Conclusions: HPV51 is a subtype that occurs more frequently in young women, can induce a variety of significant pathological features, and lacks effective vaccine protection. This study inspires us to take measures to deal with HPV rejuvenation and conduct research on vaccines for specific HPV subtypes.

Inhaled nitric oxide (NO) therapy has been reported to improve lung growth in premature newborns. However, the underlying mechanisms by which NO regulates lung development remain largely unclear. NO is enzymatically produced by three isoforms of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) enzymes. NOS knockout mice are useful tools to investigate NO function in the lung. Each single NOS knockout mouse does not show obvious lung alveolar phenotype, likely due to compensatory mechanisms. While mice lacking all three NOS isoforms display impaired lung alveolarization, implicating NO plays a pivotal role in lung alveolarization. Argininosuccinate lyase (ASL) is the only mammalian enzyme capable of synthesizing L-arginine, the sole precursor for NOS-dependent NO synthesis. ASL is also required for channeling extracellular L-arginine into a NO-synthetic complex. Thus, ASL deficiency (ASLD) is a non-redundant model for cell-autonomous, NOS-dependent NO deficiency. Here, we assessed lung alveolarization in ASL-deficient mice. Hypomorphic deletion of Asl (AslNeo/Neo) results in decreased lung alveolarization, accompanied with reduced level of S-nitrosylation in the lung. Genetic ablation of one copy of Caveolin-1, which is a negative regulator of NO production, restores total S-nitrosylation as well as lung alveolarization in AslNeo/Neo mice. Importantly, NO supplementation could partially rescue lung alveolarization in AslNeo/Neo mice. Furthermore, endothelial-specific knockout mice (VE-Cadherin Cre; Aslflox/flox) exhibit impaired lung alveolarization at 12 weeks old, supporting an essential role of endothelial-derived NO in the enhancement of lung alveolarization. Thus, we propose that ASLD is a model to study NO-mediated lung alveolarization.

Nitric oxide (NO) is a critical signaling molecule that has been implicated in the pathogenesis of neurocognitive diseases. Both excessive and insufficient NO production have been linked to pathology. Previously, we have shown that argininosuccinate lyase deficiency (ASLD) is a novel model system to investigate cell-autonomous, nitric oxide synthase-dependent NO deficiency. Humans with ASLD are at increased risk for developing hyperammonemia due to a block in ureagenesis. However, natural history studies have shown that individuals with ASLD have multisystem disease including neurocognitive deficits that can be independent of ammonia. Here, using ASLD as a model of NO deficiency, we investigated the effects of NO on brain endothelial cells in vitro and the blood-brain barrier (BBB) in vivo. Knockdown of ASL in human brain microvascular endothelial cells (HBMECs) led to decreased transendothelial electrical resistance, indicative of increased cell permeability. Mechanistically, treatment with an NO donor or inhibition of Claudin-1 improved barrier integrity in ASL-deficient HBMECs. Furthermore, in vivo assessment of a hypomorphic mouse model of ASLD showed increased BBB leakage, which was partially rescued by NO supplementation. Our results suggest that ASL-mediated NO synthesis is required for proper maintenance of brain microvascular endothelial cell functions as well as BBB integrity.

SLC7A7 deficiency, or lysinuric protein intolerance (LPI), causes loss of function of the y+LAT1 transporter critical for efflux of arginine, lysine and ornithine in certain cells. LPI is characterized by urea cycle dysfunction, renal disease, immune dysregulation, growth failure, delayed bone age and osteoporosis. We previously reported that Slc7a7 knockout mice (C57BL/6×129/SvEv F2) recapitulate LPI phenotypes, including growth failure. Our main objective in this study was to characterize the skeletal phenotype in these mice. Compared to wild-type littermates, juvenile Slc7a7 knockout mice demonstrated 70% lower body weights, 87% lower plasma IGF-1 concentrations and delayed skeletal development. Because poor survival prevents evaluation of mature knockout mice, we generated a conditional Slc7a7 deletion in mature osteoblasts or mesenchymal cells of the osteo-chondroprogenitor lineage, but no differences in bone architecture were observed. Overall, global Slc7a7 deficiency caused growth failure with low plasma IGF-1 concentrations and delayed skeletal development, but Slc7a7 deficiency in the osteoblastic lineage was not a major contributor to these phenotypes. Future studies utilizing additional tissue-specific Slc7a7 knockout models may help dissect cell-autonomous and non-cell-autonomous mechanisms underlying phenotypes in LPI.

Biomass-derived wastes as the additive of nondegradable plastics have been paid more attention due to the ever-growing environmental pollution and energy crisis. Herein, the spent coffee grounds (SCG) have been used as fillers in polypropylene (PP) after the heat treatment to realize its recycling utilization. The effect of the heat treatment atmosphere on the properties of the obtained SCG and SCG/PP composites has been investigated systematically. The results show that the residual coffee oil can be removed more thoroughly under an air atmosphere than under a nitrogen atmosphere at a relatively low cost and an eco-friendly process. The lower residual oil rate of SCG is beneficial to improve the comminution and further enhance the affinity with the PP matrix. The obtained SCG/PP composites hold lower water absorption, higher hydrophobicity, and better mechanical properties, implying their potential applications in the field of food packaging. RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS: Spent coffee grounds have been used as fillers in PP after the heat treatment. The heat treatment in the air is more favorable for the removal of the coffer oil of SCG. The low residual oil rate in SCG can improve its comminution and affinity with PP. The SCG/PP composites hold excellent performances for food packaging applications.

PURPOSE: To investigate the distribution characteristics of conjunctival sac flora and assess the susceptibility of commonly used topical antimicrobial agents in normal children under the age of 18 in East China. METHODS: In 2019, a study was conducted at Qingdao Eye Hospital of Shandong First Medical University to analyze the microorganism cultures of conjunctival sac in 1258 normal children (2516 eyes; average age, 6.21 ± 3.78 years) in East China. Exclusion criteria included children with ocular surface diseases and those who had used any topical antimicrobial agents recently. The microorganism species in the conjunctival sac were analyzed using the M-38A protocol (microdilution method; investigators read the minimum inhibitory concentration [MIC] values) by the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute to determine drug susceptibility. RESULTS: The incidence of conjunctival sac microorganism in children was 32.87% (827/2516), a total of 541 cases (male 293, female 248). Children with conjunctival sac flora in a single eye were 255 and in both eyes were 286 (no statistical difference, P > 0.05). The concordance rate of children with binocular conjunctival sac flora was 32.16% (174/541; male 84, female 90). A total of 42 species of bacteria were detected. Children with Gram-positive cocci accounted for the highest proportion, 91.54% (757/827). The top three bacteria with the highest detection rates were Staphylococcus epidermidis (S. epidermidis; 52.12%), Streptococcus (12.09%), and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus; 10.76%). Streptococcus mitis (5.20%) accounted for the highest proportion of Streptococcus.S. epidermidis had the highest proportion in all age groups and was positively correlated with age (r = 0.89, P = 0.03). Before six years of age, the streptococcal proportion(mainly S. mitis) was greater than that of Staphylococcus aureus. The drug susceptibility analysis showed that S. epidermidis was most sensitive to gatifloxacin (98.61%), while it had the highest resistance rate to erythrocin (87.94%). S. aureus had the highest susceptibility to moxifloxacin (100%). Streptococcus was most sensitive to moxifloxacin (96.97%) and had the highest resistance rate to tobramycin (92.93%). CONCLUSIONS: Conjunctival sac flora in children was dominated by Gram-positive cocci, mainly S. epidermidis, S. aureus, and Streptococcus. S. epidermidis increased with age; the proportion of Streptococcus was higher than S. aureus among children aged 0-6 years. The typical conjunctiva sac flora was generally sensitive to quinolones, such as moxifloxacin and gatifloxacin; Streptococcus displayed high resistance to tobramycin antibiotics; and the female children had higher resistance to tobramycin than the male children.

BACKGROUND: Atorvastatin and direct oral factor Xa inhibitors (for instance, rivaroxaban) are co-administrated in patients with atrial fibrillation. However, no studies have been conducted on the function of these two agents in acute pulmonary embolism (APE). Therefore, we investigated the effects of rivaroxaban + atorvastatin in rats with APE and explored the underlying mechanisms. METHODS: Patients with APE were enrolled, and rats with APE were generated for different regimens. The mean pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP), heart rate, and PaO2 of APE patients and rats were measured. The plasma levels of oxidative stress- and inflammation-related factors were measured, and the expression of platelet activation markers (CD63 and CD62P) was detected. The proteins targeted by rivaroxaban and atorvastatin, the targets associated with APE, and the genes aberrantly expressed in rats with APE were intersected to obtain candidate factors. RESULTS: Rivaroxaban + atorvastatin reduced mPAP and increased PaO2 in patients and rats with APE. Rivaroxaban + atorvastatin repressed oxidative stress, inflammatory levels, and platelet activation during APE. NRF2 and NQO1 were increased in the lung of rats treated with rivaroxaban + atorvastatin. The therapeutic effect of the combination on APE rats was suppressed after NRF2 downregulation. NRF2 promoted the NQO1 transcription. NQO1 eliminated the inhibitory effect of sh-NRF2 on the combined therapy. CONCLUSION: The alleviating effect of rivaroxaban + atorvastatin administration against APE correlates with NRF2/NQO1 expression.

DNA methylation-based precision tumor early diagnostics is emerging as state-of-the-art technology that could capture early cancer signs 3 ~ 5 years in advance, even for clinically homogenous groups. Presently, the sensitivity of early detection for many tumors is ~ 30%, which needs significant improvement. Nevertheless, based on the genome-wide DNA methylation data, one could comprehensively characterize tumors' entire molecular genetic landscape and their subtle differences. Therefore, novel high-performance methods must be modeled by considering unbiased information using excessively available DNA methylation data. To fill this gap, we have designed a computational model involving a self-attention graph convolutional network and multi-class classification support vector machine to identify the 11 most common cancers using DNA methylation data. The self-attention graph convolutional network automatically learns key methylation sites in a data-driven way. Then, multi-tumor early diagnostics is realized by training a multi-class classification support vector machine based on the selected methylation sites. We evaluated our model's performance through several data sets of experiments, and our results demonstrate the effectiveness of the selected key methylation sites, which are highly relevant for blood diagnosis. Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is an autosomal dominant genetic disease that causes multi-system damage. It is rarely associated with angle-closure glaucoma, especially in pediatric patients. We herein report a case of unilateral chronic angle-closure glaucoma in a patient with NF1. A 5-year-old girl with a large subcutaneous soft mass and multiple scattered coffee-milk spots presented with low vision, increased intraocular pressure, and angle closure in her right eye. Lisch nodules were seen in both eyes. In her right eye, ectropion uveae was observed at the top and bottom margins of the pupil. Magnetic resonance imaging of the skull and orbit revealed no abnormalities. Finally, trabeculectomy was performed on the right eye, after which the right eye showed a stable intraocular pressure. NF1 combined with angle-closure glaucoma is rare and easily missed in the clinical setting. Early diagnosis and treatment may achieve good results.

Low-dimensional ZnO, possessing well-defined side facets and optical gain properties, has emerged as a promising material to develop ultraviolet coherent light sources. However, the realization of electrically driven ZnO homojunction luminescence and laser devices is still a challenge due to the absence of a reliable p-type ZnO. Herein, the sample of p-type ZnO microwires doped by Sb (ZnO:Sb MWs) was synthesized individually. Subsequently, the p-type conductivity was examined using a single-MW field-effect transistor. Upon optical pumping, a ZnO:Sb MW showing a regular hexagonal cross-section and smooth sidewall facets can feature as an optical microcavity, which is evidenced by the achievement of whispering-gallery-mode lasing. By combining an n-type ZnO layer, a single ZnO:Sb MW homojunction light-emitting diode (LED), which exhibited a typical ultraviolet emission at a wavelength of 379.0 nm and a line-width of approximately 23.5 nm, was constructed. We further illustrated that strong exciton-photon coupling can occur in the as-constructed p-ZnO:Sb MW/n-ZnO homojunction LED by researching spatially resolved electroluminescence spectra, contributing to the exciton-polariton effect. Particularly, varying the cross-sectional dimensions of ZnO:Sb wires can further modulate the exciton-photon coupling strengths. We anticipate that the results can provide an effective exemplification to realize reliable p-type ZnO and tremendously promote the development of low-dimensional ZnO homojunction optoelectronic devices.

One-dimensional (1D) wirelike superlattice micro/nanostructures have received considerable attention for potential applications due to their versatility and capability for modulating optical and electrical characteristics. In this study, 1D superlattice microwires (MWs), which are made of undoped ZnO and Ga-doped ZnO with periodic and alternating crystalline layers (ZnO/ZnO:Ga), were synthesized individually. Under optical excitation, a series of resonance peaks in the photoluminescence spectrum can be ascribed to polariton emission, which originates from the coupling interaction of the 1D photonic crystal and confined excitons along the wire direction. Using a p-type GaN layer as the hole transport layer, a kind of waveguide light source based on an individual ZnO/ZnO:Ga superlattice MW was proposed and constructed. By analysing the spatially resolved electroluminescence spectra, the observed multipeak was ascribed to exciton-polariton emission with a vacuum Rabi splitting of about 275 meV. Cladding with Rh nanostructures gives rise to appropriate ultraviolet plasmons, and the Rabi splitting energy of our device was enhanced up to 413 meV. The exciton-polariton properties were further examined using angle-resolved electroluminescence measurements. Therefore, individual superlattice MWs can act as optical microresonators to achieve photon-exciton coupling with a large Rabi splitting energy. The experimental results indicate that an individual ZnO/ZnO:Ga superlattice MW can be generally used in developing exciton-polariton luminescence/lasing light sources, particularly for constructing low-threshold/thresholdless lasers toward pragmatic applications.

As a typical broad bandgap semiconductor, ZnO has received considerable attention for developing optoelectronic devices in ultraviolet wavelengths, but suffers from a lack of high-quality single-crystalline p-type ZnO. Herein, we report the realization of a homojunction ultraviolet photodetector, which involves a p-type Sb-doped ZnO microwire (ZnO:Sb MW) and n-type ZnO layer. The p-type conductivity of the as-synthesized ZnO:Sb MWs was evidenced using an individual wire field-effect transistor. Due to its good rectifying ability and excellent photovoltaic effect, the constructed p-ZnO:Sb MW/n-ZnO homojunction is able to work as an ultraviolet photodetector in self-biased and reversely biased manners. By appropriately engineering the band alignment of the p-ZnO:Sb/n-ZnO homojunction via a MgO interface modification layer, the optimized photodetector exhibits performance-enhanced ultraviolet detection capabilities, such as the light on/off ratio reaching up to 1.6 × 108, responsivity of over 267 mA W-1 and specific detectivity of approximately 1.2 × 1014 Jones upon 365 nm light illumination at 0 V. The detector also produces faster response with rise/recovery times of 102 µs/3.6 ms. This study not only employed a novel method to synthesize genuine p-type ZnO with excellent stability and reproducibility, but also opened up substantial opportunities for developing high-performance ZnO homojunction optoelectronic devices.

In mammals fucosyltransferase 2 (FUT2) plays an important regulatory role in inflammation, bacterial or viral infection, and tumor metastasis. However, the specific role of FUT2 in invertebrate immunity has not been reported. Here, the FUT2 homolog of Penaeus vannamei (designated as PvFUT2) was cloned and found to have a full-length cDNA of 1104 bp with an open reading frame (ORF) encoding 316 amino acids. PvFUT2 is constitutively expressed in all shrimp tissues tested with the highest found in intestines. Moreover, PvFUT2 was induced in the main immune organs (hemocytes and hepatopancreas) of shrimp by Gram-positive (Vibrio parahaemolyticus), Gram-negative (Streptococcus iniae) bacteria and virus (White Spot Syndrome Virus), indicating the involvement of PvFUT2 in shrimp antimicrobial response. Intriguingly, PvFUT2 knockdown with or without pathogen challenge reduced the expression of Pvß-catenin and antimicrobial peptides genes, particularly anti lipopolysaccharide factor and lysozyme. Further analysis revealed that the knockdown of PvFUT2 increased Vibrio abundance in hemolymph and resulted in an increase in shrimp cumulative mortality rate. Thus, during pathogen challenge, the expression of PvFUT2 is induced to regulate ß-catenin and subsequently antimicrobial peptides expression to augment shrimp antimicrobial immune response.
