RESUMO

Intramuscular injection of site enhancement oil is a cosmetic procedure used primarily in the bodybuilder environment to enlarge and reshape muscles. It comes with potential lifelong complications in the musculoskeletal system with scars, chronic wounds, pain, deformities of muscles and loss of muscle function. Magnetic resonance imaging is the best tool to diagnose and determine the propagation of the condition in the tissues. Treatment is complex and may consist of antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, compression therapy and surgical revision when possible. However, as stated in this review, prevention is crucial.

RESUMO

Disturbances of the nail apparatus are common and mainly benign. This review aims to investigate the aetiology of these disturbances, which range from more common benign causes to less common melanomas. Melanonychia may be the most prominent concern and is characterised by brown or black nail plate discoloration. Hence, understanding the most common nail changes, their epidemiology, pathophysiology, and clinical features are imperative to diagnosis and may prevent unnecessary surgical procedures in cases where it is not warranted.

RESUMO

Traumatic lacerations are a common reason for seeking care at the emergency departments. Clinical guidelines for treatment of traumatic lesions are not the same at all hospitals. Traumatic lacerations are often sought to be sutured within six hours which is characterized as the "golden period". However, this rule is based on an animal experiment conducted by Paul Leopold Friedrich in 1898. Several studies have confirmed that delays in wound closure rarely cause infection as summarised in this review. Wound length and depth, contamination of the wound and diabetes are found to be risk factors for wound infection.

RESUMO

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common diagnosed skin cancer. It often has a benign course, and metastatic BCC is extremely rare with an incidence of 0,0028-0,55%. It spreads by lymphatic and haematogenous routes, primarily to lymph nodes and lungs. The more aggressive histological types as infiltrating and morphea form is more likely to undergo metastasis. This is a case report of a patient with a primary neglected BCC on the trunk. The BCC underwent metastasis to the axillary lymph nodes. Radical axillary lymph node dissection was performed, and no further treatment was initiated.

RESUMO

Ileostomy carcinoma is a rare malignant disease, which is seen primarily among patients, who have colectomy because of inflammatory bowel disease. The condition may develop decades after creation of an ileostomy and presents with reddening of the skin and adhesive problems with the stoma bag. These symptoms are easily confused with those of benign peristomal dermatoses. This is a case report of an 81-year-old woman with ileostomy because of colitis ulcerosa, where biopsies of the skin revealed ileostomy carcinoma. The patient underwent surgery, and the carcinoma was radically excised.
