This study reports on temporal variations of NO2, O3, and SO2 pollutants and their related health effects in urban air of Khorramabad, Iran using AirQ 2.2.3 software. Based on data between 2015 and 2021, hourly NO2, O3, and SO2 concentrations increase starting at 6:00 a.m. local time until 9:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. local time, respectively, before gradually decreasing. The highest monthly NO2, O3, and SO2 concentrations are observed in October, August, and September, respectively. Annual median NO2, O3, and SO2 concentrations range between 17 ppb and 38.8 ppb, 17.5 ppb-36.6 ppb, and ∼14 ppb-30.8 ppb, respectively. Two to 93 days and 17-156 days between 2015 and 2021 exhibit daily concentrations of NO2 and SO2 ≤ WHO AQGs, respectively, while 187-294 days have 8-h maximum O3 concentrations ≤ WHO AQGs. The mean excess mortality ascribed to respiratory mortality, cardiovascular mortality, hospital admissions for COPD, and acute myocardial infraction are 121, 603, 39, and 145 during 2015-2021, respectively. O3 is found to exert more significant health effects compared to SO2 and NO2, resulting in higher cardiovascular mortality. The gradual increase in NO2 and possibly O3 over the study period is suspected to be due to economic sanctions, while SO2 decreased due to regulatory activity. Sustainable control strategies such as improving fuel quality, promoting public transportation and vehicle retirement, applying subsidies for purchase of electric vehicles, and application of European emission standards on automobiles can help decrease target pollutant levels in ambient air of cities in developing countries.

BACKGROUND: People with disabilities (PWD) have different health service needs and different factors affect the utilization of these services. Therefore, the aim of this present study was to identify determinants of inpatient healthcare utilization among PWDs in Iran. METHODS: This research was a secondary data analysis of a cross-sectional study. The present study used data gathered for 766 PWDs (aged 18 years and older) within the Iranian Society with Disabilities (ISD) between September and December 2020. Multiple logistic regression models calculated adjusted odds ratios (aOR) and 95% confidence intervals in order to identify determinants of inpatient healthcare utilization among PWDs. RESULTS: Data for 766 people with disabilities were analyzed. A large number of participants were over 28 years of age (70.94%), male (64.36%), and single (54.02%). In the present study, more than 71% of participants had no history of hospitalization during the last year. In this study, males [aOR 2.11(1.14-3.91), participants with Civil Servants health insurance coverage [aOR 3.44 (1.16 - 10.17)] and individuals in the 3th quartile of disability severity [aOR 2.13 (1.01 - 4.51)] had greater odds of inpatient healthcare utilization compared to the other groups. The value of the concentration index (C) for inpatient healthcare utilization was - 0.084 (P.value = 0.046). The decomposition analysis indicated that gender was the greatest contributor (21.92%) to the observed inequality in inpatient healthcare utilization among participants. CONCLUSION: Our findings suggested that the likelihood of hospitalization among the study participants could be significantly influenced by factors such as gender, the health insurance scheme, and the degree of disability severity. These results underscore the imperative for enhanced access to outpatient services, affordable insurance coverage, and reduced healthcare expenditures for this vulnerable population. Addressing these issues has the potential to mitigate the burden of hospitalization and promote better health outcomes for disadvantaged individuals.

Background: Determining the risk of severe course coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and its related factors in survivors of common cancers such as breast cancer is important. This study has been designed to evaluate the prevalence of COVID-19 infection in breast cancer survivors and also estimate the risk of severe disease in this population. Methods: Out of 6134 patients in the Shiraz Breast Cancer Registry (SBCR), A total of 292 patients who elapsed less than a year from their breast cancer diagnosis were excluded. We called 5842 patients. Finally, 4135 breast cancer survivors who agreed to cooperate were screened for COVID-19 symptoms by a symptom-based questionnaire in November 2020. COVID-19 in symptomatic participants was confirmed by a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. The clinical and paraclinical data of the COVID-19 course were collected for patients with a positive PCR test. Results: A total of 247 (5.9%) participants had at least reported one of the COVID-19 symptoms. Also, 17% of symptomatic participants had a positive PCR test; 83.7% had mild disease, 9.5% moderate, and 16.7% had severe conditions. Chronic cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and diabetes were related to an increased risk of severe illness ( P = 0.018, P = 0.018, P = 0.002). Conclusion: This study suggests that breast cancer intermediate and longtime survivors without other underlying diseases are considered at low risk for developing severe/critical COVID-19.

The hematopoietic factor granulocyte macrophage-colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF) has been identified via its capacity to promote bone marrow progenitors' development and differentiation into granulocytes and macrophages. Extensive pre-clinical research has established its promise as a critical therapeutic target in an assortment of inflammatory and autoimmune disorders. Despite the broad literature on GM-CSF as hematopoietic of stem cells, the cyto/geno protective aspects remain unknown. This study aimed to assess the cyto/geno protective possessions of GM-CSF on cypermethrin-induced cellular toxicity on HFF-1 cells as an in vitro model. In pre-treatment culture, cells were exposed to various GM-CSF concentrations (5, 10, 20, and 40 ng/mL) with cypermethrin at IC50 (5.13 ng/mL). Cytotoxicity, apoptotic rates, and genotoxicity were measured using the MTT, Annexin V-FITC/PI staining via flow-cytometry, and the comet assay. Cypermethrin at 5.13 ng/mL revealed cytotoxicity, apoptosis, oxidative stress, and genotoxicity while highlighting GM-CSF's protective properties on HFF-1. GM-CSF markedly attenuated cypermethrin-induced apoptotic cell death (early and late apoptotic rates). GM-CSF considerably regulated oxidative stress and genotoxicity by reducing the ROS and LPO levels, maintaining the status of GSH and activity of SOD, and suppressing genotoxicity in the comet assay parameters. Therefore, GM-CSF could be promising as an antioxidant, anti-apoptotic, genoprotective and cytomodulating agent.

Curcumin (CUR) is among the most natural and effective antitumor drugs for cancer treatment. These drugs have low solubility and short half-lives that reduce their effectiveness in drug release systems. Herein, a hydrogel nanocarrier containing chitosan (CS), alumina (γ-Al2O3), and carbon quantum dots (CQDs) was prepared by the water-in-oil-in-water (W/O/W) double nanoemulsion method. DLS revealed a nanocarrier size of 227 nm, with a zeta potential of -37.8 mV, which corroborates its stability. FE-SEM showed its quasi-spherical shape, FT-IR and XRD confirmed the presence of all the components in the nanocomposite and gave information about the intermolecular interactions between them and the crystalline nature of the nanocarrier, respectively. The drug loading (48 %) and entrapment efficiency (86 %) were higher than those reported previously for other CUR nanocarriers. The drug release profile revealed a controlled and stable release, and a pH-sensitive behavior, with faster CUR release in an acid environment. The breast cancer cell line was examined by cytotoxicity and cell apoptosis analyses. The results showed that the slow release over time and the programmed cell death were due to interactions between CUR and the nanocarrier. Considering the results obtained herein, CS/γAl2O3/CQDs/CUR can be considered as a promising new nanosystem for tumor treatment.

The rising incidence of breast cancer has been a significant source of concern in the medical community. Regarding the adverse effects and consequences of current treatments, cancers' health, and socio-economical aspects have become more complicated, leaving research aimed at improved or new treatments on top priority. Medicinal herbs contain multitarget compounds that can control cancer development and advancement. Owing to Nigella Sativa's elements, it can treat many disorders. Thymoquinone (TQ) is a natural chemical derived from the black seeds of Nigella sativa Linn proved to have anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties. TQ interferes in a broad spectrum of tumorigenic procedures and inhibits carcinogenesis, malignant development, invasion, migration, and angiogenesis owing to its multitargeting ability. It effectively facilitates miR-34a up-regulation, regulates the p53-dependent pathway, and suppresses Rac1 expression. TQ promotes apoptosis and controls the expression of pro- and anti-apoptotic genes. It has also been shown to diminish the phosphorylation of NF-B and IKK and decrease the metastasis and ERK1/2 and PI3K activity. We discuss TQ's cytotoxic effects for breast cancer treatment with a deep look at the relevant stimulatory or inhibitory signaling pathways. This review discusses the various forms of polymeric and non-polymeric nanocarriers (NC) and the encapsulation of TQ for increasing oral bioavailability and enhanced in vitro and in vivo efficacy of TQ-combined treatment with different chemotherapeutic agents against various breast cancer cell lines. This study can be useful to a broad scientific community, comprising pharmaceutical and biological scientists, as well as clinical investigators.

The intention to repurchase is a key component in relationship marketing. However, minimal attention has been paid to how customers' habitual behavior moderates the relationship between customers' evaluation of benefits received from a service provider and the intention to revisit, specifically in a personal service business where customer-service provider interactions likely constitute the core of a sustainable relationship. To address this gap, the current study proposes and tests a comprehensive model to advance the theory of relationship marketing (RM) and additionally contributes to social exchange theory (SET), as well as the theory of repurchase decision making (TRD), in the business service context. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed to examine the relationships of the research model. Based on data collected from 482 customers on their perceptions of hairstylists, the empirical findings revealed that relational benefits significantly affect post-experience behavior, satisfaction, trust, and relationship commitment, and subsequently boost the intention to revisit. Furthermore, habit as an unconscious factor moderates the paths between revisiting intention and its determinants. Although several limitations exist, the findings practically and theoretically contribute to the literature on relationship marketing.

Background: As the most common complication of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is acute pancreatitis, researchers have paid due attention to minimize this complication using various drugs, one of which is epinephrine. Therefore, the present study aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of epinephrine spray on the papilla in preventing post-ERCP pancreatitis (PEP). Materials and Methods: The present double-blind clinical trial was performed on 164 patients undergoing ERCP. Patients in both groups received 50 mg rectal suppository as usual before ERCP. Then, during ERCP, epinephrine or normal saline was sprayed topically on the major papillae. After the intervention, patients were evaluated in terms of the incidence of PEP. Results: The results of the present study revealed that the incidence of PEP in the epinephrine and control groups was 2.4% and 4.9%, respectively (P > 0.05). There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of the incidence of bleeding after ERCP, number of accidental pancreatic duct cannulation, the increase in vision during common bile duct cannulations, the need for precut sphincterotomy, and the number of hospitalization days (P > 0.05). In addition, the chance of developing PEP was lower and higher in patients with higher ages (odds ratio [OR]: 0.86; P = 0.030) and biliary sludge (OR: 4.97; P = 0.042), respectively. Conclusion: As compared with indomethacin alone (control group), it seems that the administration of epinephrine can be effective in reducing the incidence of PEP, although this relationship was not recognized to be significant in this study and only the age and the presence of sludge had a negative and positive relationship with the incidence of PEP, respectively.

Finite element methods (FEM) are popular approaches for simulation of soft tissues with elastic or viscoelastic behavior. However, their usage in real-time applications, such as in virtual reality surgical training, is limited by computational cost. In this application scenario, which typically involves transportable simulators, the computing hardware severely constrains the size or the level of details of the simulated scene. To address this limitation, data-driven approaches have been suggested to simulate mechanical deformations by learning the mapping rules from FEM generated datasets. Prior data-driven approaches have ignored the physical laws of the underlying engineering problem and have consequently been restricted to simulation cases of simple hyperelastic materials where the temporal variations were effectively ignored. However, most surgical training scenarios require more complex hyperelastic models to deal with the viscoelastic properties of tissues. This type of material exhibits both viscous and elastic behaviors when subjected to external force, requiring the implementation of time-dependant state variables. Herein, we propose a deep learning method for predicting displacement fields of soft tissues with viscoelastic properties. The main contribution of this work is the use of a physics-guided loss function for the optimization of the deep learning model parameters. The proposed deep learning model is based on convolutional (CNN) and recurrent layers (LSTM) to predict spatiotemporal variations. It is augmented with a mass conservation law in the lost function to prevent the generation of physically inconsistent results. The deep learning model is trained on a set of FEM datasets that are generated from a commercially available state-of-the-art numerical neurosurgery simulator. The use of the physics-guided loss function in a deep learning model has led to a better generalization in the prediction of deformations in unseen simulation cases. Moreover, the proposed method achieves a better accuracy over the conventional CNN models, where improvements were observed in unseen tissue from 8% to 30% depending on the magnitude of external forces. It is hoped that the present investigation will help in filling the gap in applying deep learning in virtual reality simulators, hence improving their computational performance (compared to FEM simulations) and ultimately their usefulness.

Purpose: In this study, we evaluated the effects of 2.45 GHz microwave radiation on cognitive dysfunction induced by vascular dementia (VaD).Methods: The VaD was induced by bilateral-common carotid occlusion (2-VO). The rats were divided into 4 groups including: control (n = 6), sham (n = 6), 2-VO (n = 8), and 2-VO + Wi-Fi (n = 10) groups. Wi-Fi modem centrally located at the distance of 25 cm from the animal's cages and the animals were continuously exposed to Wi-Fi signal while they freely moved in the cage (2 h/day for forty-five days). Therefore, the power density (PD) and specific absorption rate value (SAR) decreased at a distance of 25 to 60 cm (PD = 0.018 to 0.0032 mW/cm2, SAR = 0.0346 to 0.0060 W/Kg). The learning, memory, and hippocampal synaptic-plasticity were evaluated by radial arm maze (RAM), passive avoidance (PA), and field-potential recording respectively. The number of hippocampal CA1 cells was also assessed by giemsa staining.Results: Our results showed that VaD model led to impairment in the spatial learning and memory performance in RAM and PA that were associated with long-term potentiation (LTP) impairment, decrease of basal-synaptic transmission (BST), increase of GABA transmission, and decline of neurotransmitter release-probability as well as hippocampal cell loss. Notably, chronic Wi-Fi exposure significantly recovered the learning-memory performance, LTP induction, and cell loss without any effect on BST.Conclusions: The LTP recovery by Wi-Fi in the 2-VO rats was probably related to significant increases in the hippocampal CA1 neuronal density, partial recovery of neurotransmitter release probability, and reduction of GABA transmissiSon as evident by rescue of paired-pulse ratio 10 ms.

OBJECTIVE: Breast cancer is a worldwide health concern, and surgical removal has remained the preferred therapeutic option in most patients. Furthermore, the current study was designed to investigate the disease-free survival and overall survival in breast cancer patients, who receive either propofol or isoflurane during operation. METHOD: This retrospective study was conducted on 994 patients (IV group, n = 530; volatile/inhalational group, n = 464) who underwent breast cancer operation from January 2006 to December 2016 at Faghihi Hospital, Shiraz, Iran. All studied patients were followed up till 2020. Patients are classified into two groups, IV and volatile/inhalational, according to the received anesthesia. For statistical analysis, The Cox regression test was conducted to investigate the association between factors affecting the recurrence of the disease and the Log Rank test was utilized to assess the patients' survival. Finally, to reduce the effect of confounding factors, all patients were matched according to age, tumor size and tumor grade. RESULTS: Based on results from the log-rank test, the volatile/inhalational group had a better recurrence-free survival (P = 0.039) compared to the total IV group. However, the overall survival was not considerably different (P = 0.520). CONCLUSION: The current study showed that although 2-year disease-free survival is higher in the volatile/inhalational group, there is no meaningful association between the 5-year overall survival and anesthesia technique.

BACKGROUND: Diazinon (DZN), a widely used chemical herbicide for controlling agricultural pests, is an important organophosphorus pesticide and an environmental pollutant which induces toxic effects on living organisms during long-term exposure. Thymoquinone (TQ) is a phytochemical bioactive compound with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. We aimed to evaluate the protective effects of TQ against DZN-induced hepatotoxicity through alleviating oxidative stress and enhancing cholinesterase (ChE) enzyme activity. METHODS: Rats were randomly divided into six groups (n = 8); a negative control group receiving corn oil; a group only receiving DZN (20 mg/kg/day); a group treated with TQ (10 mg/kg/day), and three treatment groups as TQ + DZN, receiving different doses of TQ (2.5, 5, and 10 mg/kg/day). All experimental animals were orally treated for 28 consecutive days. The levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH), malondialdehyde (MDA), alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and lactic acid dehydrogenase (LDH) were determined. In addition, ChE activity and histopathological changes were evaluated. RESULTS: The results showed that DZN decreased GSH level (p < 0.01) and SOD activity (p < 0.01) in parallel to an increase in MDA level (p < 0.01) and increased the activity of AST, ALT, ALP, and LDH (p < 0.01) in comparison to the negative control group. Our findings demonstrated that TQ administration could diminish hepatotoxicity and reduce oxidative damage in DZN-treated rats, which could be linked to its antioxidant and free radical scavenging properties. It was also observed that TQ 10 mg/kg remarkably increased the activity of acetylcholinesterase, butyrylcholinesterase, and SOD enzymes, elevated GSH, decreased MDA, and reduced pathological alternations of the liver induced by DZN. CONCLUSION: Thymoquinone 10 mg/kg increased the activity of plasma and blood cholinesterases and reduced DZN-induced alternations of the liver. Improvement of butyryl- and acetylcholinesterase activity suggests that maybe TQ supplement could be beneficial as pre-exposure prophylaxis among farm workers spraying pesticides.

Introduction and objectives: One of the essential phases of root canal treatment is root canal obturation. Solid or semi-solid materials are the most common obturating materials (paste or softened form). Sealer is a biomaterial that enables the sealing process to be carried. This study aimed to evaluate the inflammatory response to Adseal sealer and Sure-Seal Root sealer in rats. Materials and methods:This experimental study was conducted on 28 Wistar rats that were divided into four groups of seven animals per group based on four time periods (7, 14, 30 and 60 days). Each rat received subcutaneous implants containing Adseal sealer (Meta Biomed, Cheongju, Korea) and Sure-Seal Root sealer (Sure Dent Corporation, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea) tubes as well as an empty tube as a control. After the insertion of the tubes, the first to fourth groups were sacrificed on days 7, 14, 30 and 60, respectively, by injecting a high dose of anesthetics. Subsequently, the histopathologic features of the samples were investigated. Data were analyzed in SPSS software (version 26) using Freidman, Wilcoxon, Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests. A p-value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results:On day 7, the severity of inflammation was higher in the Adseal sealer and Sure-Seal Root sealer groups compared to the control group. Moreover, on day 14, the level of inflammation was higher in the Sure-Seal Root sealer group than the Adseal sealer and control groups. In addition, on days 30 and 60, the severity of inflammation was similar in both the case and control groups and decreased in all samples. Formation of granulation tissue was observed in all samples on day 14. There was fibrosis tissue in the Sure-Seal Root sealer samples (71.4%) on day 60; however, no fibrosis tissue was observed in the Adseal sealer and control groups. Conclusion:It is concluded that the Sure-Seal Root sealer might lead to a more inflammatory response compared to the Ad Seal sealer. However, due to decreasing inflammation in sealers over time, both sealers are biocompatible.

Background: Fecal incontinence is the main morbidity of inter-sphincteric resection (ISR) in ultra-low rectal cancer. Malone Ante grade Continence Enema (MACE) has been proposed for these patients. We aimed to compare the quality of life outcomes in cases with ultra-low rectal cancer who had undergone ISR±MACE. Methods: The current randomized clinical study was accomplished for two years from December 2016 to February 2018 in Imam Khomeini Hospital (Sari City, I.R.Iran) on 30 patients (15 in each group) with rectal cancer. The inclusion criteria of the study were stage 1 and 2a of low rectal cancer with type 2 and 3 of Rullier's classification, those who received neoadjuvant chemo radiotherapy. The exclusion criteria were comorbidity diseases, immune deficiency, poor follow-up. The follow-up period was one year. The Quality of Life (Qol) was reported as primary endpoint. The EORTC QLQ-C30 score and Wexner questionnaires were used. SPSS Version 22 was used. A p-value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The mean age of patients was 56.23± 8.72 years. The overall Qol score was better in the ISR-MACE (P=0.023). The overall Qol was lower in women than in men in both groups. Low anterior resection syndrome score was lower in the ISR plus MACE group than the ISR group (P=0.030). The Wexner score revealed better scores in the ISR with MACE group than the ISR without MACE group (p<0.0001). Conclusion: Patients who underwent ISR plus MACE surgery had better defecation control and better quality of life than patients without MACE.

This study aimed to evaluate the possible protective effects of quercetin, a natural flavonoid, against nephrotoxicity induced by Di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) in kidney tissue of rats and human embryonic kidney (HEK) 293 cell line. The HEK-293 cells were treated with different concentrations of quercetin 24 h before treatment with monoethylhexyl phthalate (MEHP). Male rats were treated with 200-mg/kg DEHP, 200-mg/kg DEHP plus quercetin (50 and 100 mg/kg), and 200-mg/kg DEHP plus vitamin E (20 mg/kg) for 45 days by gavage. Quercetin treatment reduced cytotoxicity and oxidative damage inducing by MEHP in HEK-293 cells. The in vivo findings showed that 100-mg/kg quercetin significantly suppressed DEHP-induced kidney damage. For exploring the involved mechanisms, the expressions of nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), nuclear factor kappa B (NFκB), and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) genes were determined via real-time Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay. High dose of quercetin significantly decreased the gene expressions of NF-κB and TNFα, whereas the alternations of Nrf2 and HO-1 gene expressions were not significant in quercetin groups in compared with DEHP group. These findings suggested that the suppression of DEHP-induced nephrotoxicity via quercetin is correlated, at least in part, with its potential to regulate NF-κB signaling pathway.

In this study, the curing kinetics of epoxy nanocomposites containing ultra-fine full-vulcanized acrylonitrile butadiene rubber nanoparticles (UFNBRP) at different concentrations of 0, 0.5, 1 and 1.5 wt.% was investigated. In addition, the effect of curing temperatures was studied based on the rheological method under isothermal conditions. The epoxy resin/UFNBRP nanocomposites were characterized via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). FTIR analysis exhibited the successful preparation of epoxy resin/UFNBRP, due to the existence of the UFNBRP characteristic peaks in the final product spectrum. The morphological structure of the epoxy resin/UFNBRP nanocomposites was investigated by both field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies. The FESEM and TEM studies showed UFNBRP had a spherical structure and was well dispersed in epoxy resin. The chemorheological analysis showed that due to the interactions between UFNBRP and epoxy resin, by increasing UFNBRP concentration at a constant temperature (65, 70 and 75 °C), the curing rate decreases at the gel point. Furthermore, both the curing kinetics modeling and chemorheological analysis demonstrated that the incorporation of 0.5% UFNBRP in epoxy resin matrix reduces the activation energy. The curing kinetic of epoxy resin/UFNBRP nanocomposite was best fitted with the Sestak-Berggren autocatalytic model.

Acroptilon repens (L.) DC, commonly known as Rhaponticum repens, is a popular traditional phytomedicine. The current study was conducted to evaluate the acute and subchronic toxicity of the hydroalcoholic extract of this herb with regard to its terpenoid contents in a BALB/c mice model and to investigate the toxicity of this medicinal herb. Identification of extract components of the plant was done using gas chromatography (GC)-mass spectrometry. In order to establish the acute toxicity model, a single dose of 2000 mg/kg of the extract was given orally to male mice and in the subchronic toxicity study, the extract was consecutively administered at doses 250, 500, and 1000 mg/kg for 28 days. After 28 and 42 days, signs of toxicity and mortality were observed. Organ weight changes and the toxicity-associated parameters such as biochemical indicators, oxidative stress indices, mitochondrial parameters, apoptosis-associated gene expression levels, and pro-inflammatory cytokines were evaluated along with the histopathological examination. GC analysis showed that the terpenoids are the major components of the extract. The LD50 value (2 g/kg) was obtained in the acute toxicity assay; the subchronic administration caused a significant elevation in the serum biomarkers as well as in the levels of lipid peroxidation, protein carbonyl, and ROS. Besides, significant reductions in the superoxide dismutase and catalase activities were observed. This toxic effect was further confirmed by histological studies, cytokine assay, and gene expression assays. Following the treatment discontinuation, the abnormalities in the values of biochemical parameters and histopathological changes returned to normal. These findings demonstrate that the subchronic administration of the hydroalcoholic extract of A. repens can reversibly cause toxicity by inducing oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction.

BACKGROUND: Urinary tract infection is the most common infection in type 2 diabetic patients. Various studies have reported different outbreaks of urinary tract infections in type 2 diabetic patients. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the prevalence of urinary tract infections in type 2 diabetic patients during a systematic review and meta-analysis in order to develop interventions to reduce the incidence of urinary tract infections in type 2 diabetic patients. METHODS: In this study, systematic review and meta-analysis of study data related to the prevalence of urinary tract infection in type 2 diabetic patients were conducted using keywords including type 2 diabetes, urinary tract infection, diabetes, prevalence, meta-analysis and their English equivalents in SID, MagIran, IranMedex, IranDoc, Google Scholar, Cochrane, Embase, Science Direct, Scopus, PubMed and Web of Science (WoS) databases from 1993 to 2020. In order to perform the analysis of qualified studies, the model of random-effects was used, and the inconsistency of studies with the I2 index was investigated. Data analysis was performed with Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (Version 2). RESULTS: Based on a total of 15 studies with a sample size of 827,948 in meta-analysis, the overall prevalence of urinary tract infection in patients with type 2 diabetes was 11.5% (95% confidence interval: 7.8-16.7%). The prevalence of urinary tract infections in diabetic Iranian patients increased with increasing number of years of research, (p < 0.05), and with increasing age of participants (p < 0.05), but however the prevalence decreased with increasing sample size (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: This study shows that urinary tract infections are highly prevalent in patients with type 2 diabetes. Therefore, due to the growing prevalence of diabetes and its complications such as urinary tract infections, the need for appropriate screening programs and health care policies is becoming more apparent.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: We report our experiences with Intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) among breast cancer (BC) patients in our region. METHODS: All patients who received radical IORT from April 2014 on to March 2020 were included in the study. Patient selection criteria included: Age equal or older than 45 years old; All cases of invasive carcinomas (in cases of lobular carcinomas only with MRI and confirmation); Patients who were 45-50 years old with a tumor size of 0-2 cm, 50-55 years old with a tumor size of < 2.5 cm, and those who were ≥ 55 years old with a tumor size of < 3 cm; Invasive tumors only with a negative margin; Negative nodal status (exception in patients with micrometastasis); A positive estrogen receptor status. Primary endpoints included death and recurrence which were assessed using the Kaplan-Meier method. RESULTS: Overall, 252 patients entered the study. Mean (SD) age of patients was 56.43 ± 7.79 years. In total, 32.9% of patients had a family history of BC. Mean (SD) tumor size was 1.56 ± 0.55 cm. Mean (IQR) follow-up of patients was 36.3 ± 18.7 months. Overall, 8 patients (3.1%) experienced recurrence in follow-up visits (disease-free-survival of 96.1%), among which four (1.5%) were local recurrence, two (0.8%) were regional recurrence and two patients (0.8%) had metastasis. Median (IQR) time to recurrence was 46 (22, 53.7) months among the eight patient who had recurrence. Overall, one patient died due to metastasis in our series. Eleven patients (4.3%) with DCIS in our study received IORT. All these patients had free margins in histopathology examination and none experienced recurrence. CONCLUSION: Inhere we reported our experience with the use of IORT in a region where facilities for IORT are limited using our modified criteria for patient selection.

BACKGROUND: Anastomotic leak (AL) is one of the most important postoperative complications after hemicolectomy with stapled anastomosis. This study aimed to evaluate the association of preoperative vitamin D3 with early anastomotic leakage after right colon cancer surgery with stapled anastomosis. METHOD: In this prospective cohort study, 535 patients who underwent right colon cancer surgery (right hemicolectomy) with stapled anastomosis were enrolled. A subset of 315 patients was included in the study after meeting the inclusion criteria. Preoperative vitamin D level was measured and analyzed for association with early AL using univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses. RESULT: This study included 315 cases; among them, 18 (5.71%) patients developed early AL. Vitamin D3 was significantly higher among patients without early AL (P < .001). Low vitamin D3 status was reported among 111 patients (35.2%) and 204 (64.8%) of patients did not have low vitamin D3 status (sufficient level = 30-100 ng/mL). Sufficient vitamin D3 levels before right colon cancer surgery with stapled anastomosis was associated inversely with early AL (crude OR = .89, 95% CI = .85-.94, P < .001 and adjusted OR = .89, 95% CI = .82-.98, P = .02). CONCLUSION: The vitamin D3 level has a protective association with early AL. As a result, low vitamin D3 status may be a risk factor for early AL development, suggesting that it can be one of the predictors of early AL occurrence.
