BACKGROUND: Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) can be complicated by anemia due to periprocedural bleeding, hemolysis, vascular events, or significant bleeding associated with antiplatelet therapy. OBJECTIVE: We used the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) database to study the outcomes of patients who underwent TAVR and developed significant anemia requiring red blood cell (RBC) transfusion. METHODS: This is a retrospective cohort study utilizing the NIS database from 2016 to 2017. We identified patients who underwent TAVR and required RBC transfusion using ICD-10 and PCS-10 codes. The primary outcome was all-cause inpatient mortality, and the secondary outcomes were the cost of hospitalization and length of stay (LOS). Student t-test, Chi-square, and ANOVA were utilized for statistical analysis where applicable. Multivariate logistic regression was used to adjust for potential confounders. STATA 15.0 was utilized for data analysis. RESULTS: A total of 18,325 patients underwent TAVR in 2016-2017. Among them, 6.7 % of patients required RBC transfusion. Patients were relatively older in the transfusion group (81 yrs vs 79 yrs; p < 0.001). The mean cost of hospitalization was higher in the transfusion group (283,153 USD vs 208,939 USD; p < 0.001). The mean length of stay (LOS) was higher in the transfusion group (9.0 days vs 4.3 days; p < 0.001). Patients in the transfusion group had higher inpatient all-cause mortality compared to patients without transfusion (6.1 % vs 1.3 %; odds ratio 4.94; p < 0.001, 95 % CI 3.7-6.4). Inpatient mortality and LOS didn't differ by race or sex in the transfusion group. All-cause mortality, LOS, and cost of hospitalization were independently increased by transfusion after adjusting for potential confounders i.e. sex, race, hospital teaching status, hospital region, heart block, pacemaker, arrhythmias, heart failure, diabetes, pulmonary hypertension, CKD, and others using multivariate logistic regression. CONCLUSION: In patients undergoing TAVR, blood transfusion was associated with adverse outcomes including increased mortality, length of stay, and cost of hospitalization. The role of careful patient selection, judicious use of antiplatelets, anticoagulants, and pre-procedural optimization of anemia needs further investigation to optimize patient outcomes.

Powdery mildew (PM), caused by Blumeria graminis f. sp. tritici, poses a significant threat to wheat production, necessitating the development of genetically resistant varieties for long-term control. Therefore, exploring genetic architecture of PM in wheat to uncover important genomic regions is an important area of wheat research. In recent years, the utilization of meta-QTL (MQTL) analysis has gained prominence as an essential tool for unraveling the complex genetic architecture underlying complex quantitative traits. The aim of this research was to conduct a QTL meta-analysis to pinpoint the specific genomic regions in wheat responsible for governing PM resistance. This study integrated 222 QTLs from 33 linkage-based studies using a consensus map with 54,672 markers. The analysis revealed 39 MQTLs, refined to 9 high-confidence MQTLs (hcMQTLs) with confidence intervals of 0.49 to 12.94 cM. The MQTLs had an average physical interval of 41.00 Mb, ranging from 0.000048 Mb to 380.71 Mb per MQTL. Importantly, 18 MQTLs co-localized with known resistance genes like Pm2, Pm3, Pm8, Pm21, Pm38, and Pm41. The study identified 256 gene models within hcMQTLs, providing potential targets for marker-assisted breeding and genomic prediction programs to enhance PM resistance. These MQTLs would serve as a foundation for fine mapping, gene isolation, and functional genomics studies, facilitating a deeper understanding of molecular mechanisms. The identification of candidate genes opens up exciting possibilities for the development of PM-resistant wheat varieties after validation.

RESUMO

We report three cases of coronary artery aneurysm (CAA) in adults who presented with acute coronary syndrome. Two of these patients did not have traditional coronary artery disease risk factors. Management of CAA poses a significant challenge to interventionalists. We discuss the etiologic mechanisms, risk factors, pathophysiology, and diagnosis using angiography, intravascular ultrasound, and coronary computed tomography. We also highlight management options, including medical therapy and catheter-based interventions such as stenting, coil embolization, stent-assisted coil embolization, and surgical exclusion.

Wheat is one of the most important cereal crops in the world. Cold stress is a major constraint in production of wheat grown in cold climate regions. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive assessment of cold stress tolerance in wheat genotypes through field screening, cell membrane stability through electrolyte leakage assay and biochemical profiling. A core set comprising 4560 genotypes was evaluated for two years (2021-2022), revealing substantial genetic variation for cold stress tolerance. Most genotypes exhibited moderate tolerance, while a smaller proportion showed susceptibility to cold stress. Based on the cold screening data in the field, a mini-core set of 350 genotypes was selected for membrane stability analysis using electrical conductivity assays. Significant differences were observed in membrane stability among the genotypes, indicating the presence of genetic variation for this trait. Furthermore, a mini-core set was narrowed down to 50 diverse candidate genotypes that were subsequently profiled for various biochemicals, including reactive oxygen species (ROS) like lipid peroxidation (MDA) and hydrogen peroxide (H2 02 ), osmoprotectant (proline) and enzymatic antioxidants including ascorbate peroxidase (APX), superoxide dismutase (SOD), guaiacol peroxidase (GPX), and catalase (CAT). Correlation analysis of the biochemicals revealed negative associations between antioxidants and reactive oxygen species (ROS), highlighting their role in mitigating oxidative damage under cold stress. This study enhances our understanding of the physiological and biochemical mechanisms underlying cold stress tolerance in wheat. The identified genotypes with superior cold stress tolerance can serve as valuable genetic resources for wheat breeding.

Wheat, an important cereal crop globally, faces major challenges due to increasing global population and changing climates. The production and productivity are challenged by several biotic and abiotic stresses. There is also a pressing demand to enhance grain yield and quality/nutrition to ensure global food and nutritional security. To address these multifaceted concerns, researchers have conducted numerous meta-QTL (MQTL) studies in wheat, resulting in the identification of candidate genes that govern these complex quantitative traits. MQTL analysis has successfully unraveled the complex genetic architecture of polygenic quantitative traits in wheat. Candidate genes associated with stress adaptation have been pinpointed for abiotic and biotic traits, facilitating targeted breeding efforts to enhance stress tolerance. Furthermore, high-confidence candidate genes (CGs) and flanking markers to MQTLs will help in marker-assisted breeding programs aimed at enhancing stress tolerance, yield, quality and nutrition. Functional analysis of these CGs can enhance our understanding of intricate trait-related genetics. The discovery of orthologous MQTLs shared between wheat and other crops sheds light on common evolutionary pathways governing these traits. Breeders can leverage the most promising MQTLs and CGs associated with multiple traits to develop superior next-generation wheat cultivars with improved trait performance. This review provides a comprehensive overview of MQTL analysis in wheat, highlighting progress, challenges, validation methods and future opportunities in wheat genetics and breeding, contributing to global food security and sustainable agriculture.

Cardiovascular disease has become increasingly prevalent in the HIV population. Antiretroviral therapy and HIV itself independently increase the risk of dyslipidemia. While statins are currently the predominant therapy to treat dyslipidemia in HIV patients, drug-drug interactions and adverse drug events can limit their use. Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 inhibitors have shown promising results in preliminary trials by significantly reducing low density lipoprotein and other atherogenic lipid levels. They should be considered as an early intervention alongside statins in HIV patients with dyslipidemia.

Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in complex, calcified coronary lesions can be assisted with orbital atherectomy (OA). OA is generally avoided when there are lesions amendable to OA distal to a newly deployed stent due to the risk of device-stent interaction, burr entrapment, and stent avulsion. We present a case documenting the successful passage of an OA system through a recently deployed left main stent to prepare a chronically occluded left anterior descending for PCI.

PURPOSE: The study aims to compare the analgesic efficacy of two analgesic interventions, continuous paravertebral (PVB) nerve block alone with continuous paravertebral and intercostal nerve block (PVB/ICB) in patients undergoing thoracotomy. METHODS: A total of 70 patients undergoing thoracotomy were randomly enrolled in either continuous paravertebral nerve block (PVB) group or in continuous paravertebral and intercostal nerve block (PVB/ICB) group and received corresponding blocks. Analgesic efficacy measured by Visual Analog Scale (VAS) pain score, hemodynamic effects, total narcotic consumption, sedation score, patient's length of stay in hospital and patient's satisfaction with the analgesic technique were recorded. RESULTS: Demographic characteristics of the patients were similar in both groups. The mean VAS pain score was not statistically significant in both groups at 24 h. The mean pulse rate and blood pressures were comparable in both groups for the first 24 h. Nalbuphine consumption was significantly higher in PVB group as compared to PVB/ICB group at 1 h (p = 0.01), 6 h (p = 0.03) and 12 h (p = 0.009) and 24 h (p = 0.03). The mean total nalbuphine consumption in the PVB group was higher (28.29 mg vs. 22.63 mg) and statistically significant then PVB/ICB group (p = 0.03). The total tramadol consumption as a rescue analgesic was higher in the PVB group (131.42 mg) as compared to PVB/ICB group (120 mg) after 24 h but not statistically significant (p = 0.17). CONCLUSION: Continuous paravertebral nerve block with intercostal nerve block provides effective post-operative pain relief after thoracotomy with reduced narcotic consumption compared to continuous paravertebral nerve block alone. Wheat stripe rust (yellow rust) caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici (Pst) is a serious biotic stress factor limiting wheat production worldwide. Emerging evidence demonstrates that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) participate in various developmental processes in plants via post-transcription regulation. In this study, RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) was performed on a pair of near-isogenic lines-rust resistance line FLW29 and rust susceptible line PBW343-which differed only in the rust susceptibility trait. A total of 6,807 lncRNA transcripts were identified using bioinformatics analyses, among which 10 lncRNAs were found to be differentially expressed between resistance and susceptible lines. In order to find the target genes of the identified lncRNAs, their interactions with wheat microRNA (miRNAs) were predicted. A total of 199 lncRNAs showed interactions with 65 miRNAs, which further target 757 distinct mRNA transcripts. Moreover, detailed functional annotations of the target genes were used to identify the candidate genes, pathways, domains, families, and transcription factors that may be related to stripe rust resistance response in wheat plants. The NAC domain protein, disease resistance proteins RPP13 and RPM1, At1g58400, monodehydroascorbate reductase, NBS-LRR-like protein, rust resistance kinase Lr10-like, LRR receptor, serine/threonine-protein kinase, and cysteine proteinase are among the identified targets that are crucial for wheat stripe rust resistance. Semiquantitative PCR analysis of some of the differentially expressed lncRNAs revealed variations in expression profiles of two lncRNAs between the Pst-resistant and Pst-susceptible genotypes at least under one condition. Additionally, simple sequence repeats (SSRs) were also identified from wheat lncRNA sequences, which may be very useful for conducting targeted gene mapping studies of stripe rust resistance in wheat. These findings improved our understanding of the molecular mechanism responsible for the stripe rust disease that can be further utilized to develop wheat varieties with durable resistance to this disease.

Atrial fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia in patients with underlying malignancy. Patients with cancer have a higher risk of bleeding, and at the same time, carry an elevated risk of thromboembolism related to the hypercoagulable state, type of cancer, and anticancer treatment, rendering safe anticoagulation challenging in this population. Left atrial appendage closure is an alternative treatment option in patients with atrial fibrillation and high bleeding risk; however, the data on patients with cancer are limited. Our study aimed to compare the long-term outcomes in patients with cancer receiving left atrial appendage closure using the WATCHMAN device. This is a prospective, single-center study comparing outcomes in 389 patients who underwent percutaneous left atrial appendage closure using the WATCHMAN device over 5 years in a single, large academic hospital in the United States. The postprocedural outcomes of mortality, stroke, and major bleeding were evaluated in patients with and without cancer. Our study included 57 patients with cancer and 332 without cancer. The baseline characteristics were similar between the 2 groups. Metastatic disease was present in 16.4% of patients, and 25% were receiving active treatment at the time of the procedure. The median follow-up time was 354 (interquartile range 85 to 790) days. There was no difference in mortality (hazard ratio [HR] 1.3, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.72 to 2.35, p = 0.38), major bleeding episodes (HR 1.2, 95% CI 0.45 to 3.33, p = 0.68), and stroke (HR 0.64, 95% CI 0.19 to 2.21, p = 0.49) at 3 years after the procedure in patients with and without cancer. There was no difference in the composite outcome (postprocedural mortality, stroke, and major bleeding) between the 2 groups (HR 1.25, CI 0.75 to 2.07, p = 0.38). Percutaneous left atrial appendage closure in patients with cancer appears to be safe and has a similar long-term risk compared with patients without cancer.

Stem rust is one of the major diseases threatening wheat production globally. To identify novel resistance quantitative trait loci (QTLs), we performed 35K Axiom Array SNP genotyping assays on an association mapping panel of 400 germplasm accessions, including Indian landraces, in conjunction with phenotyping for stem rust at seedling and adult plant stages. Association analyses using three genome wide association study (GWAS) models (CMLM, MLMM, and FarmCPU) revealed 20 reliable QTLs for seedling and adult plant resistance. Among these 20 QTLs, five QTLs were found consistent with three models, i.e., four QTLs on chromosome 2AL, 2BL, 2DL, and 3BL for seedling resistance and one QTL on chromosome 7DS for adult plant resistance. Further, we identified a total of 21 potential candidate genes underlying QTLs using gene ontology analysis, including a leucine rich repeat receptor (LRR) and P-loop nucleoside triphosphate hydrolase, which have a role in pathogen recognition and disease resistance. Furthermore, four QTLs (Qsr.nbpgr-3B_11, QSr.nbpgr-6AS_11, QSr.nbpgr-2AL_117-6, and QSr.nbpgr-7BS_APR) were validated through KASP located on chromosomes 3B, 6A, 2A, and 7B. Out of these QTLs, QSr.nbpgr-7BS_APR was identified as a novel QTL for stem rust resistance which has been found effective in both seedling as well as the adult plant stages. Identified novel genomic regions and validated QTLs have the potential to be deployed in wheat improvement programs to develop disease resistant varieties for stem rust and can diversify the genetic basis of resistance.

Sex-based disparities in outcomes are reported for various cardiovascular procedures. This study aimed to assess the difference in outcomes in patients who underwent WATCHMAN device implant based on sex. Patients who underwent WATCHMAN device placement, from 2016 to 2018, were identified from the National Inpatient Sample database. The primary outcome was inpatient mortality, and the secondary outcomes were the length of stay (LOS), hospitalization cost (HOC), and periprocedural complications. A logistic regression model was built to perform an adjusted analysis for the outcomes. A total of 12,327 patients underwent WATCHMAN device placement. Female patients were older and more likely to have hypertension (p <0.01) and less likely to have peripheral arterial disease (5.6 vs 7.2, p <0.01), chronic kidney disease (21% vs 26%, p <0.01), and diabetes (18% vs 20%, p = 0.03) and were also at a higher risk for certain periprocedural complications, including pericardiocentesis and anemia requiring blood transfusion (p <0.01 for all). In the unadjusted analysis, the female sex was associated with longer LOS (1.5 vs 1.3 days, p <0.01) and inpatient mortality (0.23 vs 0.10, p = 0.05). The HOC was numerically higher in women but statistically nonsignificant ($120,791 vs $118,554, p = 0.1). In the stepwise, backward, multivariate regression analysis, the female sex  was an independent risk factor for higher LOS (1.5 vs 1.3 days, p <0.01, 95% confidence interval 1.3 to 1.4) after adjusting for potential confounders. The inpatient mortality and HOC were similar between 2 groups after adjusting for potential cofounders in the multivariate regression analysis. Our study suggests that the female sex is an independent risk factor for longer LOS among patients hospitalized for WATCHMAN device placement.

Stripe rust (Sr), caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici (Pst), is the most devastating disease that poses serious threat to the wheat-growing nations across the globe. Developing resistant cultivars is the most challenging aspect in wheat breeding. The function of resistance genes (R genes) and the mechanisms by which they influence plant-host interactions are poorly understood. In the present investigation, comparative transcriptome analysis was carried out by involving two near-isogenic lines (NILs) PBW343 and FLW29. The seedlings of both the genotypes were inoculated with Pst pathotype 46S119. In total, 1106 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified at early stage of infection (12 hpi), whereas expressions of 877 and 1737 DEGs were observed at later stages (48 and 72 hpi) in FLW29. The identified DEGs were comprised of defense-related genes including putative R genes, 7 WRKY transcriptional factors, calcium, and hormonal signaling associated genes. Moreover, pathways involved in signaling of receptor kinases, G protein, and light showed higher expression in resistant cultivar and were common across different time points. Quantitative real-time PCR was used to further confirm the transcriptional expression of eight critical genes involved in plant defense mechanism against stripe rust. The information about genes are likely to improve our knowledge of the genetic mechanism that controls the stripe rust resistance in wheat, and data on resistance response-linked genes and pathways will be a significant resource for future research.

BACKGROUND: Yellow or stripe rust, caused by the fungus Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici (Pst) is an important disease of wheat that threatens wheat production. Since developing resistant cultivars offers a viable solution for disease management, it is essential to understand the genetic basis of stripe rust resistance. In recent years, meta-QTL analysis of identified QTLs has gained popularity as a way to dissect the genetic architecture underpinning quantitative traits, including disease resistance. RESULTS: Systematic meta-QTL analysis involving 505 QTLs from 101 linkage-based interval mapping studies was conducted for stripe rust resistance in wheat. For this purpose, publicly available high-quality genetic maps were used to create a consensus linkage map involving 138,574 markers. This map was used to project the QTLs and conduct meta-QTL analysis. A total of 67 important meta-QTLs (MQTLs) were identified which were refined to 29 high-confidence MQTLs. The confidence interval (CI) of MQTLs ranged from 0 to 11.68 cM with a mean of 1.97 cM. The mean physical CI of MQTLs was 24.01 Mb, ranging from 0.0749 to 216.23 Mb per MQTL. As many as 44 MQTLs colocalized with marker-trait associations or SNP peaks associated with stripe rust resistance in wheat. Some MQTLs also included the following major genes- Yr5, Yr7, Yr16, Yr26, Yr30, Yr43, Yr44, Yr64, YrCH52, and YrH52. Candidate gene mining in high-confidence MQTLs identified 1,562 gene models. Examining these gene models for differential expressions yielded 123 differentially expressed genes, including the 59 most promising CGs. We also studied how these genes were expressed in wheat tissues at different phases of development. CONCLUSION: The most promising MQTLs identified in this study may facilitate marker-assisted breeding for stripe rust resistance in wheat. Information on markers flanking the MQTLs can be utilized in genomic selection models to increase the prediction accuracy for stripe rust resistance. The candidate genes identified can also be utilized for enhancing the wheat resistance against stripe rust after in vivo confirmation/validation using one or more of the following methods: gene cloning, reverse genetic methods, and omics approaches.

Identifying and deploying natural sources of resistance is of utmost importance due to increasing concerns associated with chemical methods over the years. We screened 141 diverse wheat genotypes collected from pan-Indian wheat cultivation states for nematode resistance over two years, alongside two resistant (Raj MR1, W7984 (M6)) and two susceptible (WH147, Opata M85) checks. We performed genome-wide association analysis using four single-locus models (GLM, MLM, CMLM, and ECMLM) and three multi-locus models (Blink, FarmCPU, and MLMM). Single locus models identified nine significant MTAs (-log10 (P) > 3.0) on chromosomes 2A, 3B, and 4B whereas, multi-locus models identified 11 significant MTAs on chromosomes 1B, 2A, 3B, 3D and 4B. Single and multi-locus models identified nine common significant MTAs. Candidate gene analysis identified 33 genes like F-box-like domain superfamily, Cytochrome P450 superfamily, Leucine-rich repeat, cysteine-containing subtype Zinc finger RING/FYVE/PHD-type, etc., having a putative role in disease resistance. Such genetic resources can help to reduce the impact of this disease on wheat production. Additionally, these results can be used to design new strategies for controlling the spread of H. avenae, such as the development of resistant varieties or the use of resistant cultivars. Finally, the obtained results can also be used to identify new sources of resistance to this pathogen and develop novel control methods.

PURPOSE: Wheat is an important cereal crop that is cultivated in different parts of the world. The biotic stresses are the major concerns in wheat-growing nations and are responsible for production loss globally. The change in climate dynamics makes the pathogen more virulent in foothills and tropical regions. There is growing concern about FHB in major wheat-growing nations, and until now, there has been no known potential source of resistance identified in wheat germplasm. The plant pathogen interaction activates the cascade of pathways, genes, TFs, and resistance genes. Pathogenesis-related genes' role in disease resistance is functionally validated in different plant systems. Similarly, Genomewide association Studies (GWAS) and Genomic selection (GS) are promising tools and have led to the discovery of resistance genes, genomic regions, and novel markers. Fusarium graminearum produces deoxynivalenol (DON) mycotoxins in wheat kernels, affecting wheat productivity globally. Modern technology now allows for detecting and managing DON toxin to reduce the risk to humans and animals. This review offers a comprehensive overview of the roles played by GWAS and Genomic selection (GS) in the identification of new genes, genetic variants, molecular markers and DON toxin management strategies. METHODS: The review offers a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the function of Fusarium graminearum virulence factors in Durum wheat. The role of GWAS and GS for Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) resistance has been well described. This paper provides a comprehensive description of the various statistical models that are used in GWAS and GS. In this review, we look at how different detection methods have been used to analyze and manage DON toxin exposure. RESULTS: This review highlights the role of virulent genes in Fusarium disease establishment. The role of genome-based selection offers the identification of novel QTLs in resistant wheat germplasm. The role of GWAS and GS selection has minimized the use of population development through breeding technology. Here, we also emphasized the function of recent technological developments in minimizing the impact of DON toxins and their implications for food safety.

BACKGROUND: Though uncommon, pericardial effusion and cardiac tamponade are serious complications of left atrial appendage closure (LAAC). There are few data related to delayed pericardial effusions from this procedure. METHODS: This is a single-center prospective analysis of 369 patients who underwent LAAC from December 2016 to March 2022 at a large teaching hospital. We compared patients who developed effusion (n = 5) to patients who did not (n = 364) to determine if there were any factors that predispose patients to developing acute (AEs) or delayed pericardial effusions (DEs). We compared patient characteristics, procedural data, and complications. Unadjusted, stepwise multivariate logistic regression was performed. RESULTS: A total of 369 patients underwent LAAC. Of these, 5 patients (1.4%) developed pericardial effusion. Patients in both groups (pericardial effusion vs non-effusion) had similar patient and procedural characteristics. Patients in both groups were older (mean age, 78.4 ± 7.8 years in the effusion group vs 76.3 ± 8.5 years in the non-effusion group; P=.50) and white (60% in the effusion group vs 90.1% in the non-effusion group). CHA2DS2-VASc (4.2 ± 1.1 vs 4.5 ± 1.4; P=.67) and HAS-BLED (3.4 ± 0.5 vs 3.7 ± 0.9; P=.53) scores were similar in the effusion group vs the non-effusion group, respectively. Gastrointestinal bleeding was the most common procedural indication in both groups (80% in the effusion group vs 53.6% in the non-effusion group; P=.23). The majority of the patients in both groups had successful implantation in the first attempt, with the 27-mm device the most commonly used size. There was no significant difference in procedural duration (67 minutes in the effusion group vs 75 minutes in the non-effusion group; P=.16). Among patients who received the Watchman Legacy device, 2 patients developed AEs and no patients had DEs. Of those receiving the Watchman FLX device, 1 patient developed AE and 2 patients developed DEs. All of the patients with effusions had successful recovery. CONCLUSION: In this 5-year, single-center experience, DEs were uncommon and potentially related to LAA device anchor microperforation. No statistically significant risk factors predisposing patients to pericardial effusions were identified in our analysis.

BACKGROUND: During the last few decades, the diverse sources of resistance, several genes and QTLs for spot blotch resistance have been identified. However, a large set of germplasm lines are still unexplored that have the potential to develop highly resistant wheat cultivars for the target environments. Therefore, the identification of new sources of resistance to spot blotch is essential for breeding programmes to develop spot blotch resistant cultivars and sustain wheat production. The association mapping panel of 294 diverse bread wheat accessions was used to explore new sources of spot blotch disease resistance and to identify genomic regions using genome wide association analysis (GWAS). The genotypes were tested in replicated trials for spot blotch disease at three major hot spots in India (Varanasi in UP, Pusa in Bihar, and Cooch Behar in West Bengal). The area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC) was calculated to assess the level of resistance in each genotype. RESULTS: A total of 19 highly and 76 moderately resistant lines were identified. Three accessions (EC664204, IC534306 and IC535188) were nearly immune to spot blotch disease. The genotyping of all accessions resulted in a total of 16,787 high-quality polymorphic SNPs. The GWAS was performed using a Compressed Mixed Linear Model (CMLM) and a Mixed Linear Model (MLM). A total of seven significant MTAs, common in both the models and consistent across the environment, were further validated to develop KASP markers. Four MTAs (AX-94710084, AX-94865722, AX-95135556, and AX-94529408) on three chromosomes (2AL, 2BL, and 3BL) have been successfully validated through the KASP marker. CONCLUSIONS: The new source of resistance was identified from unexplored germplasm lines. The genomic regions identified through GWAS were validated through KASP markers. The marker information and the highly resistant sources are valuable resources to rapidly develop immune or near immune wheat varieties.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Paravalvular leak (PVL) is a relatively uncommon complication associated with prosthetic valve implantation. PVL can occasionally lead to serious adverse consequences such as congestive heart failure, infective endocarditis, and hemolytic anemia. Surgical re-operation carries a high mortality risk. RECENT FINDINGS: Transcatheter closure therapy provides a viable alternative for the treatment of this disorder with reasonable procedural and clinical success. The recent advent of hybrid imaging modalities has increased procedural success. This article summarizes the pathophysiology, clinical characteristics, and treatment modalities surroundings prosthetic paravalvular leak.
