Purpose: Sepsis-associated acute lung injury (SA-ALI) is a common complication in patients with sepsis, contributing to high morbidity and mortality. Excessive inflammation and oxidative stress are crucial contributors to lung injury in sepsis. This study aims to examine the protective effects of moderate hypothermia on SA-ALI and explore the underlying mechanisms. Methods: Sepsis was induced in rats through cecal ligation and puncture followed by intervention with moderate hypothermia (32-33.9°C). Blood, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, and lung tissues were collected 12 hours post-surgery. Inflammatory responses, oxidative injury, SA-ALI-related pathophysiological processes, and Keap1/GSK3ß/Nrf2/GPX4 signaling in septic rats were observed by ELISA, lung W/D ratio, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, histological staining, Western blotting, RT-qPCR, and TEM assays. Results: Moderate hypothermia treatment alleviated lung injury in septic rats, reflected in amelioration of pathological changes in lung structure and improved pulmonary function. Further, moderate hypothermia reduced arterial blood lactate production and suppressed the expression of inflammatory factors IL-1ß, IL-6, and TNF-α; downregulated ROS, MDA, and redox-active iron levels; and restored GSH and SOD content. TEM results demonstrated that moderate hypothermia could mitigate ferroptosis in PMVECs within lung tissue. The underlying mechanism may involve regulation of the Keap1/Nrf2/SLC7A11/GPX4 signaling pathway, with the insulin pathway PI3K/Akt/GSK3ß also playing a partial role. Conclusion: Collectively, we illustrated a novel potential therapeutic mechanism in which moderate hypothermia could alleviate ferroptosis induced by excessive inflammation and oxidative stress via the regulation of Keap1/GSK3ß/Nrf2/GPX4 expression, hence ameliorating acute lung injury in sepsis.

Millettia speciosa Champ, renowned for its diverse applications in traditional medicine, is extensively cultivated in the Guangxi region of China, spanning roughly 5,973 hectares. In July 2021, a plantation in Yulin, Guangxi, China (22°64'N; 110°29'E), exhibited severe leaf spot disease on M. speciosa. Notably, a 46,690 square meters area had over 40% leaf spot incidence. Initially, symptoms appeared as small, circular, pale-yellow lesions on the leaves, then turned into irregular, dark brown spots with yellow halos, leading to the wilt and defoliation of leaves. To identify the responsible pathogen, a total of five symptomatic leaves were collected and sterilized systematically. Small tissue segments (5×5 mm) from lesion peripheries were aseptically excised, then surface sterilized with 75% ethanol for 10 s, and 1% sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) for 3 min. Following this, the sterilized tissues were triple-rinsed with sterile water and cultured on potato dextrose agar (PDA) at 28 °C in the dark for 7 d. A total of seven isolates were obtained through single-spore isolation, and one representative isolate, N2-3, was selected for further analysis. After 7 d of incubation, colonies displayed flat, white, and extensively branched aerial hyphae. Over time, the reverse side of the colony changed from white to yellowish-white. The pycnidia were black with conidial droplets ranging from cream to pale yellow exuding from their ostioles. The α-conidia were one-celled, hyaline, ovoid to cylindrical, typically with one or two droplets, 2.6 to 5.9 ×1.4 to 3.9 µm (n=50). These morphological traits align with those of the genus Diaporthe, as reported by Li et al. (2022) and Crous et al. (2015). To identify the species, isolate N2-3 underwent sequencing of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS), ß-tubulin (BT), and translation elongation factor 1 alpha (EF1-α) sections (Huang et al. 2021). Obtained sequences of ITS, BT and EF1-α (Genebank accessions nos. OR600532, OR662169 and OR662168) displayed a 99% similarity to Diaporthe tulliensis (Genebank accessions nos. OP219651, ON932382, OL412437, respectively). Based on the concatenated ITS, BT and EF1-α, a neighbor-joining phylogenetic analyses using MEGA7.0 clustered with D. tulliensis. Therefore, the fungus was identified as D. tulliensis (teleomorph name) based on morphological and molecular features. A pathogenicity test was conducted on 1-year-old M. speciosa seedlings by gently abrading healthy leaves with sterilized toothpicks to create superficial wounds. Wounded leaves were then inoculated with 5 mm diameter mycelial plugs, while control seedlings received PDA plugs. Three leaves per plant and five plants per treatment were selected for assessment. All seedlings were kept in a controlled greenhouse (12/12h light/dark, 25 ± 2 °C, 90% humidity). After 7 d, the inoculated leaves showed symptoms like those in the field, while control plants remained healthy. The fungus was consistently reisolated from the infected leaves, satisfying Koch's postulates. Notably, D. tulliensis has caused Boston ivy leaf spot, bodhi tree leaf spot, cacao pod rot, and jasmine stem canker (Huang et al. 2021; Li et al. 2022; Serrato-Diaz et al. 2022; Hsu et al. 2023). This discovery is significant as it marks the first report of Diaporthe tulliensis causing leaf spot on Millettia speciossa in China, which has direct implications for the development of diagnostic tools and research into potential disease management strategies.

In this study, a shaking table test was conducted on long-short composite anti-slide piles, the development process and dynamic response of cracks in a pile-supported slope were observed, and the failure mechanism of the slope was explored. The experiment showed that the failure of the pile-supported slope under an earthquake was a gradual process; cracks first occur at the top of the slope, where the support action of the piles was weak. As the input seismic action increased, cracks developed downwards along the slope. Owing to the support effect of the long-short anti-slide composite piles, the transmission path of the cracks changed, and the cracks developed along the top of the composite piles, ultimately leading to overtop failure. When cracks appeared on the slope or near final failure, the acceleration response law of the supported slope undergone a sudden change, which was an important indicator of slope instability. The distribution of dynamic soil stress on the pile body was greatly affected by the input peak ground acceleration, and the maximum bending moment of the long-short composite anti-slide piles was located near the weak interlayer.

Accumulating evidence indicated that HHEX participated in the initiation and development of several cancers, but the potential roles and mechanisms of HHEX in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) were largely unclear. Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are responsible for cancer progression owing to their stemness characteristics. We reported that HHEX was a novel CSCs target for HCC. We found that HHEX was overexpressed in HCC tissues and high expression of HHEX was associated with poor survival. Subsequently, we found that HHEX promoted HCC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Moreover, bioinformatics analysis and experiments verified that HHEX promoted stem cell-like properties in HCC. Mechanistically, ABI2 serving as a co-activator of transcriptional factor HHEX upregulated SLC17A9 to promote HCC cancer stem cell-like properties and tumorigenesis. Collectively, the HHEX-mediated ABI2/SLC17A9 axis contributes to HCC growth and metastasis by maintaining the CSC population, suggesting that HHEX serves as a promising therapeutic target for HCC treatment.

Background: The coexistence of diabetes mellitus (DM) and pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) poses a significant health concern globally, with their convergence presenting a considerable challenge to healthcare systems. Previous research has highlighted that comorbidities can mutually influence and exacerbate immune disorders. However, there is a paucity of data on the impact of DM on immunological features and treatment responses in the TB population in China. Methods: From January 2020 to June 2022, 264 cases of pulmonary tuberculosis patients (82 DM patients and 182 non-DM patients) hospitalized in our center were selected. 80 patients with TB with DM (TB-DM) and 80 patients with TB without DM (TB-NDM) were enrolled into the final analysis by propensity score matching for age, gender and involved lung field at a ratio of 1:1. The clinical characteristics, immunological features and treatment response were compared between the two groups. Results: After propensity score matching, no differences in the general features such as age gender, involved lung field, the incidence of retreatment and WBC count were found between the two groups. Compared to TB-NDM group, the TB-DM group exhibited a higher positive rate of sputum smear and incidence of cavitary lesions. Immunological features analysis revealed that the TB-DM patients had higher levels of TNF-α [pg/ml; 8.56 (7.08-13.35) vs. 7.64 (6.38-10.14) p = 0.033] and IL-8 [pg/ml; 25.85 (11.63-58.40) vs. 17.56 (6.44-39.08) p = 0.003] but lower CD8+ T lymphocyte count [cells/mm3; 334.02 (249.35-420.71) VS 380.95 (291.73-471.25) p = 0.038]. However, there was no significant difference in serum IL-6 concentration and CD4+ T lymphocyte count between the two groups. After 2 months of anti-tuberculosis treatment, 39 (24.4%) cases had suboptimal treatment response, including 23 (28.7%) TB-DM patients and 16 (20%) TB-NDM patients. There was no difference in suboptimal response rate (SRR) was found between the two groups (p = 0.269). The multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that retreatment for TB [AOR: 5.68 (95%CI: 2.01-16.08), p = 0.001], sputum smear positivity [AOR: 8.01 (95%CI: 2.62-24.50), p = 0.001] were associated with SRR in all participants, and in TB-DM group, only sputum smear positivity [AOR: 16.47 (1.75-155.12), p = 0.014] was positive with SRR. Conclusion: DM is a risk factor for pulmonary cavity formation and sputum smear positivity in TB population. Additionally, TB-DM patients is characterized by enhanced cytokine responses and decreased CD8+ T lymphocytes. The retreatment for TB and sputum smear positivity were associated with the occurrence of suboptimal treatment response.

Herein, we developed a technique for loading nanopesticides onto Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) to control Spodoptera litura. The average short-axis length of the synthesized carrier emamectin benzoate@PCN-222 @hyaluronic acid (EB@PCN-222 @HA) was â¼40 nm, with an average long-axis length of â¼80 nm. This enabled the manipulation of its size, contact angle, and surface tension on the surface of leaves. Pesticide-loading capacity, determined via thermogravimetric analysis, was measured at â¼16 %. To ensure accurate pesticide release in the alkaline intestine of Spodoptera litura, EB@PCN-222 @HA was engineered to decompose under alkaline conditions. In addition, the carrier delayed the degradation rate of EB, enhancing EB's stability. Loading Nile red onto PCN-222 @HA revealed potential entry into the insect body through feeding, which was supported by bioassay experiments. Results demonstrated the sustained-release performance of EB@PCN-222 @HA, extending its effective duration. The impact of different carrier concentrations on root length, stem length, fresh weight, and germination rate of pakchoi and tomato were assessed. Promisingly, the carrier exhibited a growth-promoting effect on the fresh weight of both the crops. Furthermore, cytotoxicity experiments confirmed its safety for humans. In cytotoxicity assays, PCN-222 @HA showed minimal toxicity at concentrations up to 100 mg/L, with cell survival rates above 80 %. Notably, the EB@PCN-222 @HA complex demonstrated reduced cytotoxicity compared to EB alone, supporting its safety for human applications. This study presents a safe and effective approach for pest control using controlled-release pesticides with extended effective durations.

BACKGROUND: Chemotherapy, whilst treating tumours, can also lead to numerous adverse reactions such as nausea and vomiting, fatigue and kidney toxicity, threatening the physical and mental health of patients. Simultaneously, misuse of chemotherapeutic drugs can seriously endanger patients' lives. Therefore, to maintain the safety of chemotherapy for cancer patients and to reduce the incidence of adverse reactions to chemotherapy, many guidelines state that a comprehensive assessment of the cancer patient should be conducted and documented before chemotherapy. This recommended procedure, however, has yet to be extensively embraced in Chinese hospitals. As such, this study aimed to standardise the content of pre-chemotherapy assessment for cancer patients in hospitals and to improve nurses' adherence to pre-chemotherapy assessment of cancer patients by conducting a national multi-site evidence implementation in China, hence protecting the safety of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and reducing the incidence of adverse reactions to chemotherapy in patients. METHODS: The national multi-site evidence implementation project was launched by a JBI Centre of Excellence in China and conducted using the JBI approach to evidence implementation. A pre- and post-audit approach was used to evaluate the effectiveness of the project. This project had seven phases: training, planning, baseline audit, evidence implementation, two rounds of follow-up audits (3 and 9 months after evidence implementation, respectively) and sustainability assessment. A live online broadcast allowed all participating hospitals to come together to provide a summary and feedback on the implementation of the project. RESULTS: Seventy-four hospitals from 32 cities in China participated in the project, four withdrew during the project's implementation, and 70 hospitals completed the project. The pre-and post-audit showed a significant improvement in the compliance rate of nurses performing pre-chemotherapy assessments for cancer patients. Patient satisfaction and chemotherapy safety were also improved through the project's implementation, and the participating nurses' enthusiasm and belief in implementing evidence into practice was increased. CONCLUSION: The study demonstrated the feasibility of academic centres working with hospitals to promote the dissemination of evidence in clinical practice to accelerate knowledge translation. Further research is needed on the effectiveness of cross-regional and cross-organisational collaborations to facilitate evidence dissemination.

BACKGROUND: The internet community has become a significant source for researchers to conduct qualitative studies analyzing users' views, attitudes, and experiences about public health. However, few studies have assessed the ethical issues in qualitative research using social media data. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to review the reportage of ethical considerations in qualitative research utilizing social media data on public health care. METHODS: We performed a scoping review of studies mining text from internet communities and published in peer-reviewed journals from 2010 to May 31, 2023. These studies, limited to the English language, were retrieved to evaluate the rates of reporting ethical approval, informed consent, and privacy issues. We searched 5 databases, that is, PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, Cochrane, and Embase. Gray literature was supplemented from Google Scholar and OpenGrey websites. Studies using qualitative methods mining text from the internet community focusing on health care topics were deemed eligible. Data extraction was performed using a standardized data extraction spreadsheet. Findings were reported using PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews) guidelines. RESULTS: After 4674 titles, abstracts, and full texts were screened, 108 studies on mining text from the internet community were included. Nearly half of the studies were published in the United States, with more studies from 2019 to 2022. Only 59.3% (64/108) of the studies sought ethical approval, 45.3% (49/108) mentioned informed consent, and only 12.9% (14/108) of the studies explicitly obtained informed consent. Approximately 86% (12/14) of the studies that reported informed consent obtained digital informed consent from participants/administrators, while 14% (2/14) did not describe the method used to obtain informed consent. Notably, 70.3% (76/108) of the studies contained users' written content or posts: 68% (52/76) contained verbatim quotes, while 32% (24/76) paraphrased the quotes to prevent traceability. However, 16% (4/24) of the studies that paraphrased the quotes did not report the paraphrasing methods. Moreover, 18.5% (20/108) of the studies used aggregated data analysis to protect users' privacy. Furthermore, the rates of reporting ethical approval were different between different countries (P=.02) and between papers that contained users' written content (both direct and paraphrased quotes) and papers that did not contain users' written content (P<.001). CONCLUSIONS: Our scoping review demonstrates that the reporting of ethical considerations is widely neglected in qualitative research studies using social media data; such studies should be more cautious in citing user quotes to maintain user privacy. Further, our review reveals the need for detailed information on the precautions of obtaining informed consent and paraphrasing to reduce the potential bias. A national consensus of ethical considerations such as ethical approval, informed consent, and privacy issues is needed for qualitative research of health care using social media data of internet communities.

Despite increasing attention to the economic consequences of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance, its impact on the quantity and quality of corporate green innovation (GI) remains underexplored. This study aims to reveal the impact and underlying mechanisms of ESG performance on corporate GI using a panel dataset of Chinese-listed enterprises. Our results show that ESG performance increases the quantity and quality of corporate GI by 2.72% and 3.20%, respectively. These significant positive effects are consistent across three ESG sub-ratings and a series of robustness tests, such as the instrumental variable (IV) test based on Confucian culture intensity. Mechanism analysis reveals that ESG performance positively affects corporate GI through the resource effect, governance effect, and innovation effect. Additionally, the GI impact of ESG performance is more pronounced in large, young, growing, and mature enterprises, enterprises in clean and low-carbon industries, and those located in key environmental protection (KEP) and two control zones (TCZ) cities. Our evidence provides insights into the informal drivers of corporate GI and the micro-GI effectiveness of ESG performance in emerging markets like China.

BACKGROUND: Accumulating evidence demonstrated that Hippo signaling pathway is implicated in tumor initiation and progression. However, there have been limited studies on establishing signatures utilizing genes related to the Hippo pathway to evaluate prognosis and clinical efficacy in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. METHODS: Hippo pathway-associated genes with prognostic significance were identified in the TCGA database. Subsequently, a prognostic signature associated with the Hippo pathway was constructed using Cox and LASSO regression analyses. Survival analysis, ROC analysis, and stratified analyses were conducted to appraise the performance effect of our prognostic model. We also explored the relationship between the risk score and tumor immune microenvironment. Furthermore, GO analyses and GSEA were performed for SERPINE1. Additional experiments were conducted to illuminate the underlying function and possible mechanism of SERPINE1 in CRC cell proliferation and migration. RESULTS: We identified 58 differentially expressed genes associated with Hippo pathway that have prognostic significance in CRC. Among them, five genes (PPP2CB, SERPINE1, WNT5A, TCF7L1, and LEF1) were selected to establish a prognostic signature for CRC. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that this signature exhibited excellent diagnostic and prognostic performance, providing maximum benefits for CRC patients. In accordance with the prognostic signatures, the cases were divided into low-risk and high-risk groups. Remarkably, the high-risk group displayed lower immune scores, reduced immune cell infiltration, and decreased expression of immune checkpoints. Low-risk group could more possibly benefit from conventional chemotherapeutic and targeted therapies. CRC exhibited significantly elevated expression of SERPINE1, which was linked to worst overall survival. Moreover, inhibition of SERPINE1 suppressed proliferation, invasion, and migration of CRC cells via Notch pathway. CONCLUSIONS: To sum up, we established a novel immunological prognostic signature utilizing genes associated with the Hippo pathway. This signature offers accurate prognostic prediction and can guide individualized therapy for patients with CRC.

N6 methyladenosine (m6A), methylation at the sixth N atom of adenosine, is the most common and abundant modification in mammalian mRNAs and non-coding RNAs. Increasing evidence shows that the alteration of m6A modification level could regulate tumour proliferation, metastasis, self-renewal, and immune infiltration by regulating the related expression of tumour genes. However, the role of m6A modification in colorectal cancer (CRC) drug resistance is unclear. Here, MeRIP-seq and RNA-seq techniques were utilized to obtain mRNA, lncRNA expression, and their methylation profiles in 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU)-resistant colon cancer HCT-15 cells and control cells. In addition, we performed detailed bioinformatics analysis as well as in vitro experiments of lncRNA to explore the function of lncRNA with differential m6A in CRC progression and drug resistance. In this study, we obtained the m6A methylomic landscape of CRC cells and resistance group cells by MeRIP-seq and RNA-seq. We identified 3698 differential m6A peaks, of which 2224 were hypermethylated, and 1474 were hypomethylated. Among the lncRNAs, 60 were hypermethylated, and 38 were hypomethylated. GO and KEGG analysis annotations showed significant enrichment of endocytosis and MAPK signalling pathways. Moreover, knockdown of lncRNA ADIRF-AS1 and AL139035.1 promoted CRC proliferation and invasive metastasis in vitro. lncRNA- mRNA network showed that ADIRF-AS1 and AL139035.1 May play a key role in regulating drug resistance formation. We provide the first m6A methylation profile in 5-FU resistance CRC cells and analyse the functions of differential m6A-modified mRNAs and lncRNAs. Our results indicated that differential m6A RNAs were significantly associated with MAPK signalling and endocytosis after induction of 5-FU resistance. Knockdown of LncRNA ADIRF-AS1 and AL139035.1 promotes CRC progression and might be critical in regulating drug resistance formation.
We outline the first m6A methylation profile of mRNA and lncRNA in CRC cells involved in 5-FU resistance.This study sought to identify the critical genes that produced 5-FU resistance by analysing the functions of differentially m6A-modified mRNAs and lncRNAs.

As a desirable microbial cell factory, Pichia pastoris has garnered extensive utilization in metabolic engineering. Nevertheless, the lack of fine-tuned gene expression components has significantly constrained the potential scope of applications. Here, a gradient strength promoter library was constructed by random hybridization and high-throughput screening. The hybrid promoter, phy47, performed best with 2.93-fold higher GFP expression levels than GAP. The broad applicability of the novel hybrid promoter variants in biotechnological production was further validated in the biosynthesis of pinene and rHuPH20 with higher titers. The upstream regulatory sequences (UASE and URSD) were identified and applied to promoters GAP and ENO1, resulting in a 34 and 43% increase and an 18 and 37% decrease in the expression level, respectively. Yeast one-hybrid analysis showed that transcription factor HAP2 activates the hybrid promoter through a direct interaction with the crucial regulatory region UASH. Furthermore, a short segment of tunable activation sequence (20 bp) was also screened, and artificial promoters were constructed in tandem with the addition of regulatory sequence, resulting in a 61% expansion of the expression range. This study provides a molecular tool and regulatory elements for further synthetic biology research in P. pastoris.

OBJECTIVES: To conduct psychometric testing of the Chinese version of the National Health Service Sustainability Model as an instrument to assess the sustainability of innovation in the Chinese nursing setting. BACKGROUND: Evidence-based practice is recognized worldwide as a way to improve the quality of healthcare; however, many evidence-based practice programmes decline over time and do not sustain the benefits of their improvements. A sustainability assessment tool is used internationally but its use has not been validated in China. DESIGN: A methodological study to test instrument validity and reliability. METHODS: The data collection was conducted from 15 June 2022 to 31 August 2022. The internal consistency of the Chinese version of the sustainability model was measured with Cronbach's alpha. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to test the model's structural validity. RESULTS: Four hundred eighty-three questionnaires were returned, of which 478 were valid. The short time taken to evaluate the Chinese version of the sustainability model demonstrated its efficiency and ability to adapt to a busy clinical environment. The confirmatory factor analysis showed a good fit model and supported the convergence validity of the sustainability model. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.905 for the total scale, which indicated good internal consistency. CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study suggest that the Chinese version of the sustainability model is a valid, reliable and efficient tool for measuring the sustainability of evidence-based practices in Chinese nursing settings.

The efficiency and cognitive limitations of manual sample labeling result in a large number of unlabeled training samples in practical applications. Making full use of both labeled and unlabeled samples is the key to solving the semi-supervised problem. However, as a supervised algorithm, the stacked autoencoder (SAE) only considers labeled samples and is difficult to apply to semi-supervised problems. Thus, by introducing the pseudo-labeling method into the SAE, a novel pseudo label-based semi-supervised stacked autoencoder (PL-SSAE) is proposed to address the semi-supervised classification tasks. The PL-SSAE first utilizes the unsupervised pre-training on all samples by the autoencoder (AE) to initialize the network parameters. Then, by the iterative fine-tuning of the network parameters based on the labeled samples, the unlabeled samples are identified, and their pseudo labels are generated. Finally, the pseudo-labeled samples are used to construct the regularization term and fine-tune the network parameters to complete the training of the PL-SSAE. Different from the traditional SAE, the PL-SSAE requires all samples in pre-training and the unlabeled samples with pseudo labels in fine-tuning to fully exploit the feature and category information of the unlabeled samples. Empirical evaluations on various benchmark datasets show that the semi-supervised performance of the PL-SSAE is more competitive than that of the SAE, sparse stacked autoencoder (SSAE), semi-supervised stacked autoencoder (Semi-SAE) and semi-supervised stacked autoencoder (Semi-SSAE).

BACKGROUND: The innovative method of sentiment analysis based on an emotional lexicon shows prominent advantages in capturing emotional information, such as individual attitudes, experiences, and needs, which provides a new perspective and method for emotion recognition and management for patients with breast cancer (BC). However, at present, sentiment analysis in the field of BC is limited, and there is no emotional lexicon for this field. Therefore, it is necessary to construct an emotional lexicon that conforms to the characteristics of patients with BC so as to provide a new tool for accurate identification and analysis of the patients' emotions and a new method for their personalized emotion management. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to construct an emotional lexicon of patients with BC. METHODS: Emotional words were obtained by merging the words in 2 general sentiment lexicons, the Chinese Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (C-LIWC) and HowNet, and the words in text corpora acquired from patients with BC via Weibo, semistructured interviews, and expressive writing. The lexicon was constructed using manual annotation and classification under the guidance of Russell's valence-arousal space. Ekman's basic emotional categories, Lazarus' cognitive appraisal theory of emotion, and a qualitative text analysis based on the text corpora of patients with BC were combined to determine the fine-grained emotional categories of the lexicon we constructed. Precision, recall, and the F1-score were used to evaluate the lexicon's performance. RESULTS: The text corpora collected from patients in different stages of BC included 150 written materials, 17 interviews, and 6689 original posts and comments from Weibo, with a total of 1,923,593 Chinese characters. The emotional lexicon of patients with BC contained 9357 words and covered 8 fine-grained emotional categories: joy, anger, sadness, fear, disgust, surprise, somatic symptoms, and BC terminology. Experimental results showed that precision, recall, and the F1-score of positive emotional words were 98.42%, 99.73%, and 99.07%, respectively, and those of negative emotional words were 99.73%, 98.38%, and 99.05%, respectively, which all significantly outperformed the C-LIWC and HowNet. CONCLUSIONS: The emotional lexicon with fine-grained emotional categories conforms to the characteristics of patients with BC. Its performance related to identifying and classifying domain-specific emotional words in BC is better compared to the C-LIWC and HowNet. This lexicon not only provides a new tool for sentiment analysis in the field of BC but also provides a new perspective for recognizing the specific emotional state and needs of patients with BC and formulating tailored emotional management plans.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the effects of citrate and heparin anticoagulation on coagulation function and efficacy in children with septic shock undergoing continuous blood purification (CBP), and to provide guidance for CBP anticoagulation in children with septic shock. METHODS: A case control study was conducted. Thirty-seven children with septic shock admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) of the First Affiliated Hospital of Gannan Medical University from July 2019 to September 2022 were enrolled as the research subjects. The patients were divided into citrate local anticoagulation group and heparin systemic anticoagulation group according to different anticoagulation methods. The baseline data, the level of coagulation indicators [prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), thrombin time (TT), fibrinogen (Fib), D-dimer] before treatment and 1 day after weaning from CBP, serum inflammatory mediators [interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), hypersensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), procalcitonin (PCT)], bleeding complications during CBP and 7-day mortality were collected. RESULTS: A total of 37 cases were enrolled finally, including 17 cases with citric acid local anticoagulation and 20 cases with heparin systemic anticoagulation. There was no statistically significant difference in general data such as gender, age, and body weight of children between the two groups. There were no statistically significant differences in baseline levels of coagulation indicators and inflammatory mediators before treatment of children between the two groups. One day after weaning from CBP, both groups showed varying degrees of improvement in coagulation indicators compared with those before treatment. Compared with before treatment, the PT of the heparin systemic anticoagulation group was significantly shortened after 1 day of weaning (s: 11.82±2.05 vs. 13.64±2.54), APTT and TT were significantly prolonged [APTT (s): 51.54±12.69 vs. 35.53±10.79, TT (s): 21.95±4.74 vs. 19.30±3.33], D-dimer level was significantly reduced (mg/L: 1.92±1.58 vs. 4.94±3.94), with statistically significant differences (all P < 0.05). While in the citrate local anticoagulation group, only APTT was significantly prolonged after treatment compared with that before treatment (s: 49.28±10.32 vs. 34.34±10.32, P < 0.05). There were no statistically significant differences in other coagulation indicators compared with before treatment. Compared with the citric acid local anticoagulation group, the PT of the heparin systemic anticoagulation group was significantly shortened after treatment (s: 11.82±2.05 vs. 13.61±3.05, P < 0.05), and the D-dimer level was significantly reduced (mg/L: 1.92±1.58 vs. 3.77±2.38, P < 0.01). The levels of inflammatory mediators in both groups were significantly reduced 1 day after CBP weaning compared with those before treatment [citric acid local anticoagulation group: hs-CRP (mg/L) was 12.53±5.44 vs. 22.65±7.27, PCT (µg/L) was 1.86±1.20 vs. 3.30±2.34, IL-6 (ng/L) was 148.48±34.83 vs. 202.32±48.62, TNF-α (ng/L) was 21.38±7.71 vs. 55.14±15.07; heparin systemic anticoagulation group: hs-CRP (mg/L) was 11.82±4.93 vs. 21.62±8.35, PCT (µg/L) was 1.90±1.08 vs. 3.18±1.97, IL-6 (ng/L) was 143.81±33.41 vs. 194.02±46.89, TNF-α (ng/L) was 22.44±8.17 vs. 56.17±16.92, all P < 0.05]. However, there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups (all P > 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in bleeding complication during CBP and 7-day mortality in children between the citrate local anticoagulation group and the heparin systemic anticoagulation group (5.9% vs. 30.0%, 17.6% vs. 20.0%, both P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Heparin for systemic anticoagulation and regional citrate anticoagulation can significantly reduce the levels of IL-6, TNF-α, hs-CRP and PCT in children with septic shock, and relieve inflammatory storm. Compared with citric acid local anticoagulation, heparin systemic anticoagulation can shorten the PT and reduce the level of D-dimer in children with septic shock, which may benefit in the prevention and treatment of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC).

Due to poor management and the lack of environmental awareness, lots of masks (an emerging form of plastic pollution) are discarded into the environment during the COVID-19, thereby jeopardizing the health of humans and the environment. Our study introduces a novel perspective by examining the impact of physical damage on the microbial composition of masks in the water environment. We focus on the variations in biofilm formation on each layer of both damaged and undamaged masks, which allows us to understand more about the biofilm on each layer and the significant changes that occur when masks are physically damaged. Research has shown that the community structure of microorganisms on discarded masks can be altered in just ten days, showing an evolution from undifferentiated pioneer colonizing species ("non-picky") to adaptive dominant species ("picky"). Especially, considering that discarded masks were inevitably damaged, we found that the biomass on the damaged samples is 1.62-2.38 times higher than that of the undamaged samples, respectively. Moreover, the microbial community structure on it was also significantly different. Genes involved in biogeochemical cycles of nutrients are more enriched in damaged masks. When damaged, the colonization process and community structure in the middle layer significantly differ from those in the inner and outer layers and even enrich more pathogenic bacteria. Based on the above, it is evident that the environmental risk of masks cannot be assessed as a whole, and the middle layer carries a higher risk.

Star anise (Illicium verum) is an important economic and medical plant widely cultivated in Guangxi province, China. Its fruit can be used as spice and medicine (Wang et al. 2011). In recent years, anthracnose led to a serious decline in the production of star anise in Guangxi. In 2021, a survey conducted in CenwangLaoshan Reserve of Guangxi (24°21'N; 106°27'E) showed that the 2500 ha planting area had disease incidence greater than 80%. The leaf symptoms initially appeared as small spots, then expanded to round spots, finally becoming withered with grayish-white centers, surrounded by dark brown margins. Sometimes, small black acervuli were observed in the later stage. To explore the pathogen, infected leaves were collected and cut into small pieces (about 5 mm2) from the edge of the lesion, disinfected with 75% ethanol for 10 s, 1% NaClO for 1 min, washed with sterilized water and incubated on potato dextrose agar (PDA) plates at 28 °C in the dark. Ten single-spore isolates were obtained from the cultures. After 7 days on PDA at 28 °C, the colonies of 7 isolates were white with abundant aerial hyphae, gray-black with white-gray margins, and the other 3 isolates were light gray on the upper surface, and pink or orange on the underside. Representative isolates BS3-4 and BS3-1 were selected from 3 isolates and 7 isolates, respectively. Conidia of BS3-4 and BS3-1 were both hyaline, cylindrical, aseptate, smooth, apex obtuse, base truncate, and no significant differences (P > 0.05) in size between BS3-1 (13.22 to 5.38 × 3.89 to 1.99 µm) (n = 50) and BS3-4 (12.04 to 4.34 × 3.48 to 1.64 µm) (n = 50). These morphological characteristics were consistent with the Colletotrichum ssp. (Damm et al. 2012). The species identification of BS3-4 and BS3-1 was performed based on DNA sequence analysis. Genomic DNA was extracted as a template. Partial sequences of the rDNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS), actin gene (ACT), ß-tubulin2 (TUB2) and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) were amplified and sequenced (Weir et al. 2012). The sequences were deposited in GenBank (ITS:OQ062642-43; ACT:OQ067614-15; GAPDH:OQ067616-17;TUB2ï¼OQ067618-19). Based on the concatenated sequences of the 4 genes (ITS-ACT- GAPDH -TUB2) of BS3-4 and BS3-1 as well as sequences of other Colletotrichum spp. obtained from GenBank, the Maximum likelihood (ML) tree which produced with IQ-TREE (Minh et al. 2020) revealed that the isolate BS3-1 was Colletotrichum horii, and BS3-4 was Colletotrichum fioriniae. Pathogenicity was confirmed on healthy leaves of 1-year-old star anise seedlings (cultivar Dahong), and the leaves were wounded by sterilized toothpicks, and were inoculated with 10 µl of conidial suspensions of BS3-1 and BS3-4 (106 conidia/ml). Control seedlings were inoculated with sterilized distilled water. Five leaves per plant and 3 plants per treatment were selected. All inoculated seedlings were maintained in the greenhouse (12/12h light/dark, 25 ± 2â, 90% relative humidity). Wound sites inoculated with BS3-1 and BS3-4 both turned greenish-brown after 2 days and then turned light brown with water-soaked spots. Black (BS3-1) or orange (BS3-4) dots of acervuli developed after 6 days. The lesion diameter of BS3-1 (14.4 mm) was larger than that of BS3-4 (8.1 mm). No symptoms were observed on controls. BS3-1 and BS3-4 were re-isolated from inoculated leaves, fulfilling Koch's postulates. Anthracnose of star anise caused by C.horii has been reported in China (Liao et al. 2017). However, to our knowledge, this is the first report of C.fioriniae infecting star anise in China. Accurate pathogen identification in this study could provide a reference for the control of anthracnose on star anise.

BACKGROUND: Given the rapid development of social media, effective extraction and analysis of the contents of social media for health care have attracted widespread attention from health care providers. As far as we know, most of the reviews focus on the application of social media, and there is a lack of reviews that integrate the methods for analyzing social media information for health care. OBJECTIVE: This scoping review aims to answer the following 4 questions: (1) What types of research have been used to investigate social media for health care, (2) what methods have been used to analyze the existing health information on social media, (3) what indicators should be applied to collect and evaluate the characteristics of methods for analyzing the contents of social media for health care, and (4) what are the current problems and development directions of methods used to analyze the contents of social media for health care? METHODS: A scoping review following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines was conducted. We searched PubMed, the Web of Science, EMBASE, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, and the Cochrane Library for the period from 2010 to May 2023 for primary studies focusing on social media and health care. Two independent reviewers screened eligible studies against inclusion criteria. A narrative synthesis of the included studies was conducted. RESULTS: Of 16,161 identified citations, 134 (0.8%) studies were included in this review. These included 67 (50.0%) qualitative designs, 43 (32.1%) quantitative designs, and 24 (17.9%) mixed methods designs. The applied research methods were classified based on the following aspects: (1) manual analysis methods (content analysis methodology, grounded theory, ethnography, classification analysis, thematic analysis, and scoring tables) and computer-aided analysis methods (latent Dirichlet allocation, support vector machine, probabilistic clustering, image analysis, topic modeling, sentiment analysis, and other natural language processing technologies), (2) categories of research contents, and (3) health care areas (health practice, health services, and health education). CONCLUSIONS: Based on an extensive literature review, we investigated the methods for analyzing the contents of social media for health care to determine the main applications, differences, trends, and existing problems. We also discussed the implications for the future. Traditional content analysis is still the mainstream method for analyzing social media content, and future research may be combined with big data research. With the progress of computers, mobile phones, smartwatches, and other smart devices, social media information sources will become more diversified. Future research can combine new sources, such as pictures, videos, and physiological signals, with online social networking to adapt to the development trend of the internet. More medical information talents need to be trained in the future to better solve the problem of network information analysis. Overall, this scoping review can be useful for a large audience that includes researchers entering the field.

BACKGROUND: International attention is being paid to the issue of making evidence sustainable after implementation. Developing an identification model is essential to promote and monitor the sustainability of evidence implementation. However, this model is not available in Chinese. This study aims to translate the National Health Service Sustainability Model into Chinese and to verify whether the model is adapted to the Chinese healthcare environment. METHODS: This study follows the translation and validation guidelines developed by Sousa and Rojjanasrirat. The translations include forward and backward translations and their comparison. Expert reviews were used to validate the content validity of the Chinese version of the National Health Service sustainability model. Cognitive interviews were used to assess the validity of the language in the Chinese setting. RESULTS: The translation was conducted by a bilingual research team and took 12 months. Expert reviews were undertaken with eight experts, and cognitive interviews with six participants. The content validity of the model is excellent, but at least 20% of the experts still felt that items one, three, five and nine needed refinements. In the cognitive interviews, most items, instructions and response options were well understood by the participants responsible for the evidence-based practice project. However, some language issues were still identified in items one, three, four, five, seven, nine, and ten. Participants reported that the sustainability results of the model assessment were consistent with their previous judgments of the items. Based on the expert review and interview results, items one, three, four, five, seven, nine and ten require further refinement. In summary, seven of the ten items have been amended. CONCLUSIONS: This study provides insight into how the National Health Service sustainability model can be used in the Chinese healthcare setting and paves the way for future large-scale psychometric testing.
