RESUMO

The formation of oil-in-water Pickering emulsions stabilized by lamellar zeolite MWW (International Zeolite Association, three-letters code) emulsifier without surface grafting is investigated. The crucial emulsification factors are the oligolayer morphology and amphiphilicity developed upon acidic treatment (NH4+ exchange/calcination, HNO3 treatment). In contrast with the readily available/abundant hydrophilic ≡Si-OH group in layer MWW, the lipophilicity generated by strong acid sites is another key to the success of emulsification. Hydrocarbon-strong acid site interaction is long known in petrochemistry and superacid research. However, to the best of our knowledge, this interaction was first introduced to gain lipophilicity in emulsion formation. Finally, the Pd-loaded acidic form of the MWW zeolite successfully stabilized the toluene/H2O emulsion system. The biphasic interfacial nitroarene hydrogenation demonstrated excellent catalytic performance. Overall, this work provided not only a new kind of intrinsic solid to emulsify the organic-aqueous biphase system but also a new mechanism to generate lipophilicity. Both are important for the applications and designs of Pickering emulsion materials.

RESUMO

Organic ultra-long room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials in the amorphous state have attracted widespread attention due to their simple preparation and flexibility to adopt various forms in sensors, bioimaging, and encryption applications. However, the amorphous molecular host for the host-guest RTP systems is highly demanded but limited. Here, a universal molecular host (DPOBP-Br) has been designed by integration of an amorphous moiety of diphenylphosphine oxide (DPO) and an intersystem crossing (ISC) group of 4-bromo-benzophenone (BP-Br). Various commercial fluorescence dyes were doped into the tight and transparent DPOBP-Br film, respectively, resulting in amorphous host-guest systems with ultra-long RTP colors from green to red. It was found that DPOBP-Br acted as a universal "triplet exciton pump" for promoting the generation of triplet excitons in the guest, through energy transfer processes and external heavy-atom effect based on DPOBP-Br. Interestingly, dynamic RTP was achieved by controlling residual oxygen concentration in the amorphous matrix by UV irradiation. Therefore, multi-dimensional anti-counterfeiting coatings were realized even on curved surfaces, simultaneously exhibiting spatial and 2D-time dependence. This work provides a strategy to design new amorphous molecular hosts for RTP systems and demonstrates the advanced information encryption with tempo-spatial resolution based on the dynamic ultra-long RTP of an amorphous system.

RESUMO

Numerous plants of medicinal value grow on Hainan Island (China). Given the lack of knowledge on the phytochemical and pharmacological properties of Michelia shiluensis Chun and Y. F. Wu (M. shiluensis), the application of natural antioxidants and antimicrobials in the food industry has attracted increasing interest. This study aimed to compare the chemical composition, free-radical-scavenging capacity, and antibiosis of aqueous extracts of the fresh and dried leaves of M. shiluensis. The aqueous extract of the leaves of M. shiluensis was obtained using steam distillation, and its chemical components were separated and identified via gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The free-radical-scavenging capacity and antibiosis were determined. Further, 28 and 20 compounds were isolated from the fresh leaf aqueous extract of M. shiluensis (MSFLAE) and dried leaf aqueous extract of M. shiluensis (MSDLAE), respectively. The free-radical-scavenging capacity of MSFLAE and MSDLAE was determined by the 2,2-diphenyl-1 picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method, which was 43.43% and 38.74%, respectively. The scavenging capacity of MSFLAE and MSDLAE determined by the 2,2'-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonate (ABTS)) method was 46.90% and 25.99%, respectively. The iron ion reduction capacity of MSFLAE and MSDLAE was determined by the ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) method as 94.7 and 62.9 µmol Fe2⁺/L, respectively. This indicated that the two leaf aqueous extracts had a certain free-radical-scavenging capacity, and the capacity of MSFLAE was higher than that of MSDLAE. The antibiosis of the two leaf aqueous extracts on the three foodborne pathogenic bacteria was low, but the antimicrobial effects on Gram-positive bacteria were better than those on Gram-negative bacteria. The antibiosis of MSFLAE on Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus was greater than that of MSDLAE. Finally, MSFLAE and MSDLAE both had certain free-radical-scavenging capacities and antibiosis, confirming that the use of this plant in the research and development of natural antioxidants and antibacterial agents was reasonable. Plant aqueous extracts are an essential source of related phytochemistry and have immense pharmacological potential.

RESUMO

Gut microbiota and its metabolites are related to the female reproductive system. Animal experiments have demonstrated the relationship between gut microbiota-derived short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and embryo quality. However, few studies have linked SCFAs to clinical pregnancy outcomes in humans. This retrospective cross-sectional study recruited 147 patients undergoing in vitro fertilization or intracytoplasmic sperm injection and embryo transfer (IVF/ICSI-ET) (70 with no pregnancies and 77 with clinical pregnancies). The association between SCFAs levels and clinical pregnancy outcomes was evaluated using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. The association between SCFAs and metabolic parameters was analyzed using a linear regression model. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used for assessing the efficiency of SCFAs to evaluate the clinical pregnancy outcomes. Fecal propionate levels were significantly higher in the no pregnancy group than in the clinical pregnancy group (p < 0.01). Fecal acetate and butyrate levels were not significantly different between females with and without clinical pregnancies (p > 0.05). There were positive relationships between fecal propionate levels and fasting serum insulin (FSI) (r = 0.245, p = 0.003), Homeostatic Model Assessment for Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR) (r = 0.276, p = 0.001), and triglycerides (TG) (r = 0.254, p = 0.002). Multivariate analyses determined that fecal propionate (OR, 1.103; 95% CI, 1.045-1.164; p < 0.001) was an independent risk factor for no pregnancies. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) of fecal propionate was 0.702 (p < 0.001), with a sensitivity of 57.1% and a specificity of 79.2%. High fecal propionate concentration has a negative association on clinical pregnancy outcomes and is positively correlated with FSI, TG, and HOMA-IR.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to systematically estimate the effectiveness and safety of annulus closure device (ACD) implantation in discectomy for patients with lumbar disc herniation (LDH). METHODS: A systematic search was performed on PubMed, EMBASE and the Cochrane Library for randomized controlled trial (RCT) from inception until April 16, 2022. Trials which investigated comparisons between with and without ACD implantation in discectomy for LDH patients were identified. RESULTS: In total, five RCTs involving 2380 patients with LDH underwent discectomy were included. The included patients were divided into ACD group and control group (CTL). Significant differences were found in the rate of re-herniation (ACD: 7.40%, CTL: 17.58%), reoperation (ACD: 5.39%, CTL: 13.58%) and serious adverse event (ACD: 10.79%, CTL: 17.14%) between ACD group and CTL group. No significant difference was found in VAS-BACK, VAS-LEG, ODI and SF-12 PCS between ACD and CTL. The surgical time of ACD was longer than CTL with statistical significance. In subgroup analyses based on discectomy type, significant differences were found in the rate of re-herniation (ACD: 10.73%, CTL: 21.27%), reoperation (ACD: 4.96%, CTL: 13.82%) and serious adverse event (ACD: 7.59%, CTL: 16.89%) between ACD and CTL in limited lumbar discectomy (LLD). CONCLUSION: Discectomy either with or without ACD implantation is considered to achieve similar clinical outcomes. Whereas, the ACD implantation in LLD is associated with lower re-herniation and reoperation rate but prolonged surgical time for LDH patients. Researches on cost-effectiveness and effect of ACD implantation in different discectomy are needed in the future.

RESUMO

Objective: To evaluate the global research productivity in the field of discectomy for lumbar disc herniation (LDH) through bibliometric analysis and mapping knowledge domains. Methods: A systematic literature search was performed on the Web of Science (WoS), including the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) database and PubMed. The number of publications, countries of publications, journals of publications, total citation frequency, impact factors of journals, and Institutional sources were analyzed by Microsoft Excel 2019, the Online Analysis Platform of Bibliometrics, and VOSviewer. Hotspots were also analyzed and visualized based on VOSviewer. Results: A total of 2,066 papers were identified. The United States ranked first in the number of total citations (7,970). China ranked first in the number of publications (556, 26.9%), which has surpassed the United States in terms of the number of publications published annually since 2016. Wooridul Spine Hospital published the most papers (43). For journals, Spine has published the largest number of papers (289) in this field with the most citation frequencies (6,607). Hotspots could be divided into three clusters: surgery, lumbar disc herniation, and diagnoses. The most recent topic that appeared was symptomatic re-herniation. Conclusions: The United States is the most significant contributor to the development of discectomy for LDH. The current research focus of discectomy on LDH was the comparison between surgical approaches and evaluation of current minimally invasive discectomy. At present, minimally invasive techniques, such as endoscopic discectomy, cannot completely replace non-endoscopic discectomy (open discectomy and microdiscectomy) through bibliometric analysis and mapping knowledge domains.

RESUMO

The essence of enterotypes is stratifying the entire human gut microbiome, which modulates the association between diet and disease risk. A study was designed at the Center of Reproductive Medicine, Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University and Jinghua Hospital of Shenyang. Prevotella and Bacteroides were analyzed in 407 samples of stool, including 178 men with enterotype B (61 normal, 117 overweight/obese) and 229 men with enterotype P (74 normal, 155 overweight/obese). The ratio between Prevotella and Bacteroides abundance, P/B, was used as a simplified way to distinguish the predominant enterotype. In enterotype P group (P/B ≥ 0.01), obesity was a risk factor for a reduced rate of forward progressive sperm motility (odds ratio [OR] 3.350; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.881-5.966; P < 0.001), and a reduced rate of total sperm motility (OR 4.298; 95% CI 2.365-7.809; P < 0.001). Obesity was also an independent risk factor (OR 3.131; 95% CI 1.749-5.607; P < 0.001) after adjusting follicle-stimulating hormone. In enterotype P, body mass index, as a diagnostic indicator of a reduced rate of forward progressive sperm motility and a decreased rate of decreased total sperm motility, had AUC values of 0.627 (P = 0.001) and 0.675 (P < 0.0001), respectively, which were significantly higher than the predicted values in all patients. However, in enterotype B group (P < 0.01), obesity was not a risk factor for asthenospermia, where no significant difference between obesity and sperm quality parameters was observed. This study is tried to introduce enterotypes as a population-based individualized classification index to investigate the correlation between BMI and asthenospermia. In our study, overweight/obese men with enterotype P were found to have poorer sperm quality. however, sperm quality was not associated with overweight/obese in men with enterotype B. Thereof, BMI is a risk factor for asthenospermia only in men with enterotype P, but not in men with enterotype B.

RESUMO

Six new isocoumarin derivative talaromarins A-F (1-6), along with 17 known analogues (7-23), were isolated from the mangrove-derived fungus Talaromyces flavus (Eurotiales: Trichocomaceae) TGGP35. Their structures were identified by detailed IR, UV, 1D/2D NMR and HR-ESI-MS spectra. The absolute configurations of new compounds were determined by the modified Mosher's method and a comparison of their CD spectra with dihydroisocoumarins described in the literature. The antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-phytopathogenic and inhibitory activity against α-glucosidase of all the isolated compounds were tested. Compounds 6-11, 17-19 and 21-22 showed similar or better antioxidant activity than the IC50 values ranging from 0.009 to 0.27 mM, compared with the positive control trolox (IC50 = 0.29 mM). Compounds 10, 18, 21 and 23 exhibited strong inhibitory activities against α-glucosidase with IC50 values ranging from 0.10 to 0.62 mM, while the positive control acarbose had an IC50 value of 0.5 mM. All compounds showed no antibacterial or anti-phytopathogenic activity at the concentrations of 50 µg/mL and 1 mg/mL, respectively. These results indicated that isocoumarins will be useful to developing antioxidants and as diabetes control agents.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the efficacies of Femoral Neck System (FNS) and the three cannulated screws fixation (3CS) as therapeutic options for femoral neck fractures. METHOD: This was a retrospective study involving 69 patients (26 males and 43 females; mean age of 54.9 years (range, 28-66 years)) subjected to either FNS or 3CS for femoral neck fracture therapy. These patients were treated in our hospital from October 2019 to May 2020. Patient follow up was done at 1, 2, 3 and 6 months. During the short-term (6 months) follow-up period, surgical procedures for the two groups and incidences of complications were analyzed. Perioperative parameters were recorded and analyzed. Postoperative hip joint functions were measured and compared using the Harris score. The assessed perioperative parameters included surgical time, hemoglobin loss, fluoroscopy duration, hospitalization length and hospitalization cost. The main complications at last follow-up (6 months) included varus tilting, femoral neck shortness, and implant removal. RESULTS: Differences in the number of patients, age, Garden type of fracture and time from injury to surgery between the two groups were not significant (P > 0.05). With regards to perioperative parameters, compared to 3CS, FNS treatment performed better in surgical time (60.00 ± 12.44 vs 76.81 ± 13.10 min, P = 0.000), blood loss (13.67 ± 8.02 vs 16.58 ± 4.16 g/L, P = 0.059) and fluoroscopy time (39.73 ± 9.57 vs 58.14 ± 9.15 s, P = 0.000). Differences in hospitalization length and cost between the groups were not significant (P > 0.05). During the whole follow-up period, all patients did not exhibit dysfunction, pulmonary embolism or even death as a result of long-term immobilization of affected limbs. Surgical incisions for all patients healed well without infections. During the 6-month follow-up period, the FNS group exhibited a higher Harris score (84.61 ± 3.42 vs 78.67 ± 3.72, p = 0.000). In addition, treatment-associated complications (FNS vs 3CS) included femoral neck varus tilt (3.03% vs 11.11%), femoral neck shortness (6.06% vs 13.89%), and implant removal (0% vs. 13.89%). Implant removal rate for the FNS group was significantly less than that of the 3CS group (P = 0.026). Differences in incidences of femoral neck varus tilt (P = 0.196) and femoral neck shortness (P = 0.282) between the two groups were not significant. However, the difference in number was significant (FNS group was less). CONCLUSION: FNS treatment is associated with a smaller surgical trauma, stronger stability, and reductions in post-operative complication incidences, therefore, it is a potential therapeutic option for femoral neck fractures.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: We systematically evaluated the global research trends in robotic application on the spine through bibliometric analysis and mapping knowledge domains. METHODS: A systematic literature search was performed of the PubMed and Web of Science, including the Science Citation Index Expanded, databases. The number, countries, journals, and authors of the publications, total citations, average publication year, and institution sources were analyzed using Microsoft Excel, the Online Analysis Platform of Bibliometrics, and VOSviewer. The hotspots were analyzed and visualized using VOSviewer. RESULTS: We identified a total of 2135 publications. The United States ranked first in the number of publications (n = 824; 38.63%) and frequency of citations (n = 29,075). Northwestern University had the highest number of publications (n = 67) and Harvard University the highest number of citations (n = 4198). The Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation published the largest number of reports (n = 73), and the most frequently cited journal was Nature (n = 3844 citations). The research hotspots were divided into 3 categories analyzed by VOSviewer: rehabilitation, basic science, and surgery. According to the average publication year, the most recent hotspot was radiation exposure, and the earliest hotspot was radiosurgery. CONCLUSIONS: The number of studies of robotic application on the spine has continued to increase. The United States was the greatest contributor to robotic applications on the spine. Robot-assisted rehabilitation for neurological and orthopedic lesions is still a major research hotspot. The range of robotic applications on the spine has expanded from assisted rehabilitation to assisted rehabilitation and surgery.

RESUMO

Objective: To study the characteristics and relationship of the gut microbiota in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Method: We recruited 45 patients with PCOS and 37 healthy women from the Reproductive Department of Shengjing Hospital. We recorded their clinical indexes, and sequenced their fecal samples by 16S rDNA full-length assembly sequencing technology (16S-FAST). Result: We found decreased α diversity and different abundances of a series of microbial species in patients with PCOS compared to healthy controls. We found LH and AMH were significantly increased in PCOS with Prevotella enterotype when compared to control women with Prevotella enterotype, while glucose and lipid metabolism level remained no significant difference, and situations were opposite in PCOS and control women with Bacteroides enterotype. Ruminococcus gnavus, Prevotella stercorea, Dialister succinatiphilus and Bacteroides fragilis were more abundant while Christensenellaceae spp. were less abundant in the PCOS group. P. stercorea was significantly more prevalent in PCOS-not insulin resistance (NIR) compared to control-NIR and PCOS-not overweight (NOW) patient groups compared to control-NOW groups. Kyoto Encyclopedia Genes and Genomes reflecting pathways related to lipopolysaccharide biosynthesis were more abundant in the PCOS group. Conclusion: Our study found gut microbiota that had different abundance in patients with PCOS compared to healthy controls. An intimate relationship was shown between the gut microbiota and pathological changes in PCOS. We suggest the gut microbiota should be taken into consideration in the treatment of symptoms of PCOS via drugs and diet.

RESUMO

AIMS: The aim of this study was to systematically compare the safety and accuracy of robot-assisted (RA) technique with conventional freehand with/without fluoroscopy-assisted (CT) pedicle screw insertion for spine disease. METHODS: A systematic search was performed on PubMed, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and WANFANG for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that investigated the safety and accuracy of RA compared with conventional freehand with/without fluoroscopy-assisted pedicle screw insertion for spine disease from 2012 to 2019. This meta-analysis used Mantel-Haenszel or inverse variance method with mixed-effects model for heterogeneity, calculating the odds ratio (OR), mean difference (MD), standardized mean difference (SMD), and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). The results of heterogeneity, subgroup analysis, and risk of bias were analyzed. RESULTS: Ten RCTs with 713 patients and 3,331 pedicle screws were included. Compared with CT, the accuracy rate of RA was superior in Grade A with statistical significance and Grade A + B without statistical significance. Compared with CT, the operating time of RA was longer. The difference between RA and CT was statistically significant in radiation dose. Proximal facet joint violation occurred less in RA than in CT. The postoperative Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) of RA was smaller than that of CT, and there were some interesting outcomes in our subgroup analysis. CONCLUSION: RA technique could be viewed as an accurate and safe pedicle screw implantation method compared to CT. A robotic system equipped with optical intraoperative navigation is superior to CT in accuracy. RA pedicle screw insertion can improve accuracy and maintain stability for some challenging areas.Cite this article: Bone Joint Res 2020;9(10):653-666.

RESUMO

A one-pot regioselective two C-C-bond-forming dearomatization of pyridines and quinolines is disclosed. Two 3,4-betaines are identified for the first time as very useful organic synthons in heterocyclic chemistry. Furthermore, the chemical reactivity of the prepared trifluoromethyl ketones, a new type of push-pull enones, has been explored to develop straightforward methods for their functionalization. This protocol represents a breakthrough in the dearomatization of heteroaromatics as both the selective saturation and functionalization of heteroaromatics are achieved in high efficiency by the attachment of two substituents, including the valuable trifluoromethyl ketone group.
