RESUMO

A selective intermolecular Schmidt reaction of equilibrating hydroxyalkyl allylic azides is reported to afford N-hydroxyalk-1-en-3-yl lactams in modest to high yields. For prochiral and chiral ketones, modest to high 1,5-diastereoselectivity was achieved, and the mechanistic analysis is supported by DFT calculation.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The insufficient number of general practitioners (GPs) is a major challenge facing China's healthcare system. The purpose of the GP transfer training programme was to provide training for experienced doctors to transition to general practice. However, research on the competencies of GP transfer training trainers in teaching skills in China is limited. This cross-sectional study aimed to examine the baseline familiarity with teaching skills among Chinese GP transfer training trainers. METHODS: An online survey was conducted among trainers who participated in the 2021 Sichuan Province General Practice Training Trainer Program. The survey collected data on participants' characteristics and familiarity with 20 skills in three essential teaching knowledge areas: the core functions of primary care (five questions), preparation for lesson plan (four questions), and teaching methods (11 questions). RESULTS: In total, 305 participants completed the survey. Familiarity rates were generally low across all three essential teaching knowledge areas. No significant differences were observed in familiarity rates between the tertiary and secondary hospitals. CONCLUSION: This study revealed gaps in the teaching skills of GP transfer training trainers in China. These results suggest the necessity for targeted training programs to enhance the teaching skills and competencies of trainers.

RESUMO

The generation of intense coherent radiation pulses in the far-infrared and terahertz regimes is of considerable interest to the free-electron laser (FEL) radiation user community. At long wavelengths, the diffraction effect can be quite severe, therefore, an optical waveguide is required to confine the radiation field. However, it will also bring about some new phenomena, and the most noteworthy one is the spectral gap phenomenon: at some particular wavelengths, regardless of electron beam adjustments, the coupling efficiency and output power of waveguide FEL oscillators drop significantly. Such spectral gap has an adverse effect on experimental results since numerous experiments require continuous spectral scanning. In this paper, we propose to utilize a bow-tie cavity instead of conventional cavities to the waveguide FEL to solve the spectral gap problem. The simulation was carried out based on the parameters of FELiChEM, a newly built user facility in China. Numerical simulation code OPC combining with modified GENESIS is used to enable the modelling, for the first time, of a bow-tie cavity based FEL in the far-infrared wavelength regime. The simulation results indicate that this novel structure can effectively eliminate the spectral gaps and substantially enhance long-wavelength laser performance.

RESUMO

Objectives: This study aimed to assess the knowledge and awareness of nicotine, nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), and electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) among general practitioners with a special interest (GPwSIs) in respiratory medicine. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from October 2021 to February 2022. Knowledge and awareness were compared among smokers and non-smokers, as well as different age and gender groups. Results: The study consisted of 102 GPwSIs from 21 cities in Sichuan Province, China. Most respondents would recommend NRT for long-term use. Only a few believed that e-cigarettes are an effective means of smoking cessation and 71.6% would not recommend e-cigarettes as a substitute for cigarettes to their patients. Additionally, the majority did not regularly provide extensive help to assist patients in quitting smoking and needed smoking cessation counseling training. Conclusion: GPwSIs in respiratory medicine in China could have a relatively low level of knowledge and awareness regarding nicotine, NRT, and e-cigarettes. The study highlights the need for smoking cessation training among GPwSIs to improve their knowledge and provide better assistance to patients who want to quit smoking.

RESUMO

A multi-color light source is a significant tool for nonlinear optics experiments, pump-dump/repump-probe experiments and in other fields. Here, a novel method is proposed to create three-color pulses based on a high-gain harmonic-generation (HGHG) free-electron laser with a tilted electron bunch. In this method, the initial bunch tilt is created by transverse wakefields after the bunch passes through a corrugated structure with an off-axis orbit, and is further enlarged in a following drift section. Then the tilted bunch experiences the off-axis field of a quadrupole magnet to cool down the large transverse velocity induced before. After that, it enters an HGHG configuration adopting a transverse gradient undulator (TGU) as the radiator, where only three separated fractions of the tilted bunch will resonate at three adjacent harmonics of the seed wavelength and are enabled to emit three-color pulses simultaneously. In addition, the use of the natural transverse gradient of a normal planar undulator instead of the TGU radiator to emit three-color pulses is also studied in detail. Numerical simulations including the generation of the tilted bunch and the free-electron laser radiation confirm the validity and feasibility of this scheme both for the TGU radiator and the natural gradient in the extreme-ultraviolet waveband.

RESUMO

The unrestricted control of circularly polarized (CP) terahertz (THz) waves is important in science and applications, but conventional THz devices suffer from issues of bulky size and low efficiency. Although Pancharatnam-Berry (PB) metasurfaces have shown strong capabilities to control CP waves, transmission-mode PB devices realized in the THz regime are less efficient, limiting their applications in practice. Here, based on Jones matrix analysis, we design a tri-layer structure (thickness of ~λ/5) and experimentally demonstrate that the structure can serve as a highly efficient transmissive meta-atom (relative efficiency of ~90%) to build PB metadevices for manipulating CP THz waves. Two ultrathin THz metadevices are fabricated and experimentally characterized with a z-scan THz imaging system. The first device can realize a photonic spin Hall effect with an experimentally demonstrated relative efficiency of ~90%, whereas the second device can generate a high-quality background-free CP Bessel beam with measured longitudinal and transverse field patterns that exhibit the nondiffracting characteristics of a Bessel beam. All the experimental results are in excellent agreement with full-wave simulations. Our results pave the way to freely manipulate CP THz beams, laying a solid basis for future applications such as biomolecular control and THz signal transportation.

RESUMO

A terahertz (THz) bottle beam is realized by adopting the combination of a Teflon axicon and a silicon lens. By using a THz imaging system with a focal-plane array, the vector characteristics of the THz bottle beam are coherently measured and detailedly analyzed, including the transverse (Ex) and longitudinal (Ez) components. The experimental phenomena vividly reveal the distribution characteristics and the formation origin of the THz optical barrier. A vectorial diffraction integral algorithm of a focusing optical system are utilized to exactly simulate the measured results. Besides, the features of the THz bottle beam are effectively tuned by varying the parameters of the Teflon axicon and the silicon lens. This work gives a full view to understand the evolution characteristics of the THz bottle beam and provide a solid experimental foundation for guiding the future applications of this type of THz beam.

RESUMO

A phase-merging enhanced harmonic generation free-electron laser (FEL) was proposed to increase the harmonic conversion efficiency of seeded FELs and promote the radiation wavelength towards the X-ray spectral region. However, this requires a specially designed transverse gradient undulator (TGU) as the modulator to couple the transverse and longitudinal phase space of the electron beam. In this paper, the generation of the phase-merging effect is explored using the natural field gradient of a normal planar undulator. In this method, a vertical dispersion on the electron beam is introduced and then the dispersed beam travels through a normal modulator in a vertical off-axis orbit where the vertical field gradient is selected properly in terms of the vertical dispersion strength and modulation amplitude. The phase-merging effect will be generated after passing through the dispersive chicane. Theoretical analysis and numerical simulations for a seeded soft X-ray FEL based on parameters of the Shanghai Soft X-ray FEL project are presented. Compared with a TGU modulator, using the natural gradient of a normal planar modulator has the distinct advantage that the gradient can be conveniently tuned in quite a large range by adjusting the beam orbit offset.

RESUMO

The photoluminescence in carbon dots (surface-passivated small carbon nanoparticles) could be quenched efficiently by electron acceptor or donor molecules in solution, namely that photoexcited carbon dots are both excellent electron donors and excellent electron acceptors, thus offering new opportunities for their potential uses in light energy conversion and related applications.

RESUMO

The wet-chemical synthesis of aluminum nanoparticles was investigated systematically by using dimethylethylamine alane and 1-methylpyrrolidine alane as precursors and molecules with one or a pair of carboxylic acid groups as surface passivation agents. Dimethylethylamine alane was more reactive, capable of yielding well-defined and dispersed aluminum nanoparticles. 1-Methylpyrrolidine alane was less reactive and more complex in the catalytic decomposition reaction, for which various experimental parameters and conditions were used and evaluated. The results suggested that the passivation agent played dual roles of trapping aluminum particles to keep them nanoscale during the alane decomposition and protecting the aluminum nanoparticles postproduction from surface oxidation and that an appropriate balance between the rate of alane decomposition (depending more sensitively on the reaction temperature) and the timing in the introduction of the passivation agent into the reaction mixture was critical to the desired product mixes and/or morphologies. Some fundamental and technical issues on the alane decomposition and the protection of the resulting aluminum nanoparticles are discussed.
