BACKGROUND: Job crafting is defined as a series of proactive behaviors exhibited by employees in order to balance work resources and needs, which has a significant positive impact on the nurses. It is necessary to find the core factors that influence the job crafting, as emergency nurses deal with the most complex tasks, so as to improve their job satisfaction. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the core factors of job crafting among emergency nurses. METHODS: A cross-sectional design was used in the study. A total of 255 nurses were recruited from two hospitals in Zhengzhou and Shenzhen, China in December 2021. 255 nurses completed an online questionnaire. Hierarchical regression models and fsQCA models were used to explore the factors influencing job crafting among emergency nurses and helped us to identify core factors. RESULTS: The hierarchical regression model and the fsQCA model found that the occupational benefit, psychological empowerment, and research experience were the core factors affecting their job crafting. Job involvement was not significant in the regression model, but the QCA model indicated that it needs to be combined with other factors to impact on job crafting. The QCA model uncovered seven key conditional configurations that led to high and low job crafting among emergency nurses, explaining 80.0% of the results for high job crafting and 82.6% of the results for the low job crafting, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study provide valuable insights into the job crafting experienced by emergency nurses. Junior emergency nurses should be granted a high level of psychological empowerment without assigning them overly complex tasks, such as research tasks, as these challenges can stop their job crafting. Intermediate and senior emergency nurses, on the other hand, can be assigned research tasks coupled with high psychological empowerment to enhance their job crafting.

Objective: To analyze the CT and MR features of Primary hepatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (PHNENs) in order to enhance the diagnostic accuracy of this disease. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients diagnosed with hepatic neuroendocrine neoplasms, excluding other sites of origin through general examination and postoperative follow-up. The CT and MR signs were analyzed according to the 2018 version of Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS), along with causes of misdiagnosis. Results: Twelve patients, including 6 males and 6 females, were enrolled in this study. There was no significant increase in liver tumor markers among all cases. Most masses were multiple (9/12), exhibiting low attenuation on pre-contrast CT scans, T1-hypointense signal, T2-hyperintense signal, and restricted diffusion. The majority of these masses (7/10) demonstrated similar rim arterial phase hyper-enhancement as well as peripheral "washout" during venous portal phase and delayed phase imaging. Three cases had incomplete capsules while one case had a complete capsule. Cyst/necrosis was observed in 7 out of all cases following administration of contrast agent, with 5 mainly distributed in the periphery. All masses lacked fat, calcification, vascular or bile duct tumor thrombus formation. Conclusion: The imaging findings associated with PHNENs possess certain specificity, often presenting as multiple masses within the liver accompanied by peripheral cyst/necrosis, similar rim arterial phase hyper-enhancement during venous portal phase and delayed phase imaging.

BACKGROUND: Some patients with cancer-administered anti-cancer drugs may develop renal lesions with low-level enhancement on follow-up abdominal computed tomography (CT). OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinical significance of renal lesions with low-level enhancement on CT after exposure to anti-cancer drugs. METHODS: Medical records of patients with cancer who developed renal lesions on CT after exposure to anti-cancer drugs were retrospectively reviewed. Renal lesions were scored according to the extent of involvement, CT attenuation values of lesions and normal parenchyma were measured on precontrast CT and three phases of contrast-enhanced CT, and changes in serum creatinine (SCr) from one week before exposure to drugs to one week before and after the appearance of renal lesions were recorded. RESULTS: This study included 54 patients (86 lesions). Lesions were slightly lower density on pre-contrast CT, and less enhancing than normal renal parenchyma, especially in the delayed phase. Lesions were wedge-shaped, and involved the renal pyramid and associated renal cortex, as well as, were single or multiple, and occurred in the unilateral or bilateral kidneys. There were patchy and cord-like shadows of increased density in adjacent perirenal adipose tissue. During follow-up, lesions disappeared in 15 patients and persisted in 39 patients without significant progression. There were significant differences in renal lesions and normal renal parenchyma CT attenuation values in each phase of contrast-enhanced CT. Change in SCr level was significantly positively correlated with lesion score. CONCLUSION: Renal lesions with low-level enhancement on CT suggest early drug-induced kidney injury. These findings will inform clinical decision-making.

The ferric uptake regulator (Fur) is a global regulator that influences the expression of virulence genes in Klebsiella pneumoniae. Bioinformatics analysis suggests Fur may involve in iron acquisition via the identified regulatory box upstream of the yersiniabactin receptor gene fyuA. To observe the impact of the gene fyuA on the virulence of K. pneumoniae, the gene fyuA knockout strain and complementation strain were constructed and then conducted a series of phenotypic experiments including chrome azurol S (CAS) detection, crystal violet staining, and wax moth virulence experiment. To examine the regulatory relationship between Fur and the gene fyuA, green fluorescent protein (GFP) reporter gene fusion assay, real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), gel migration assay (EMSA), and DNase I footprinting assay were used to clarify the regulatory mechanism of Fur on fyuA. CAS detection revealed that the gene fyuA could affect the generation of iron carriers in K. pneumoniae. Crystal violet staining experiment showed that fyuA could positively influence biofilm formation. Wax moth virulence experiment indicated that the deletion of the fyuA could weaken bacterial virulence. GFP reporter gene fusion experiment and RT-qPCR analysis revealed that Fur negatively regulated the expression of fyuA in iron-sufficient environment. EMSA experiment demonstrated that Fur could directly bind to the promoter region of fyuA, and DNase I footprinting assay further identified the specific binding site sequences. The study showed that Fur negatively regulated the transcriptional expression of fyuA by binding to upstream of the gene promoter region, and then affected the virulence of K. pneumoniae.

Remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) technology is a non-contact physiological signal measurement method, characterized by non-invasiveness and ease of use. It has broad application potential in medical health, human factors engineering, and other fields. However, current rPPG technology is highly susceptible to variations in lighting conditions, head pose changes, and partial occlusions, posing significant challenges for its widespread application. In order to improve the accuracy of remote heart rate estimation and enhance model generalization, we propose PulseFormer, a dual-path network based on transformer. By integrating local and global information and utilizing fast and slow paths, PulseFormer effectively captures the temporal variations of key regions and spatial variations of the global area, facilitating the extraction of rPPG feature information while mitigating the impact of background noise variations. Heart rate estimation results on the popular rPPG dataset show that PulseFormer achieves state-of-the-art performance on public datasets. Additionally, we establish a dataset containing facial expressions and synchronized physiological signals in driving scenarios and test the pre-trained model from the public dataset on this collected dataset. The results indicate that PulseFormer exhibits strong generalization capabilities across different data distributions in cross-scenario settings. Therefore, this model is applicable for heart rate estimation of individuals in various scenarios.

Graphene (GR) is a new type of carbon-based material that combines many excellent properties. In order to give full play to the excellent properties of graphene and expand its application scope, this study used ionic liquid SbF6 to modify it and successfully prepared ionic liquid modified graphene composites (H/GR), and studied its adsorption mechanism of arsenic in aqueous solution. By investigating the effects of reaction temperature, reaction time, pH, adsorbent (H/GR) dosage, and humic acid concentration on the removal rate of arsenic in aqueous solution, the experimental results showed that when the reaction temperature was 30 °C, reaction time was 1 h, pH was 6, H/GR dosage was 0.1g·L-1, and humic acid (HA) concentration was 10 mg·L-1, the best arsenic removal effect was achieved with a maximum. The removal rate was 99.4%. The equilibrium adsorption capacity was well modeled by the Langmuir, Freundlich, and Tenkin models at 30 °C. The Langmuir adsorption isotherm was the most consistent, with a calculated maximum value of 137.95 mg·g-1, which is higher than most adsorbents in the field. In addition, it was determined that the graphene surface was indeed immobilized with the ionic liquid [Hmim]SbF6 by SEM mapping and EDS energy spectroscopy observation, and the adsorption isotherms and pore size distribution maps of graphene before and after the loading of the ionic liquid were analyzed by BET, which further confirmed a significant increase in the microporosity and porosity of the modified H/GR, and furthermore, it was demonstrated that the arsenic ions are chemically bonded with and indeed adsorbed on the surface of the H/GR by FT-IR and XPS characterization analyses. The results of all experimental data studies indicate that the main mechanism of As(V) removal from water by H/GR is due to electrostatic adsorption, ion exchange, and complexation between the modified graphene itself and the ionic liquid [Hmim]SbF6 itself.

To reveal the variation of gut microbiota and its association with immune function in cured patients with coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) disease, gut microbiota of patients discharged from hospital for 20 ~ 23 months and healthy volunteers was analyzed by high throughput 16S rRNA sequencing. The diversity and abundance were compared, and the correlation with immunity factors was investigated, and changes in the content of 6 genera microorganisms with proportion higher than 0.1% were revealed in patients with COVID-19 disease: reduced content of Subdoligranulum, Haemophilus, Coprococcus, Eubacterium vertriosum group, and Lachnospiraceae ND3007 group and increased content of Hungatella. NK cells were negatively correlated to Subdoligranulum, while CD8 cells were positively correlated to Subdoligranulum but negative to Hungatella. IL-8 concentration was negatively correlated to Subdoligranulum, Haemophilus, Coprococcus, Eubacterium vertriosum group, and Lachnospiraceae ND3007 group but positively to Hungatella, while IL-1ß concentration was negatively correlated to Haemophilus and Eubacterium ventriosum group but positively to Hungatella. The variation of probiotics and potential pathogenic bacteria implies a higher risk in diseases and inflammation, and the modulation of the gut microbiota may help the healing of COVID-19 patients.

BACKGROUND: Electroacupuncture (EA) at Zusanli (ST36) is an alternative treatment for several gastrointestinal motility disorders; however, the exact mechanism is unconfirmed. We aimed to show the potential effects of EA on muscularis macrophages (MMφ), the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)/BMP receptor (BMPR)-Smad signal pathway, and enteric neurons in diabetic mice. This may provide fresh insight into ways EA affects gastrointestinal motility. MATERIALS AND METHODS: C57BL/6J healthy adult male mice were randomly divided into five groups: regular control group, diabetes group, diabetes with sham EA group (acupuncture only), diabetes with low-frequency EA group (10 Hz), diabetes with high-frequency EA group (HEA) (100 Hz). The stimulation lasted eight weeks. Gastrointestinal motility was assessed. We identified M2-like MMφ in the layer of colonic muscle by flow cytometry. Western Blot, real-time polymerase chain reaction, and immunofluorescent staining were also used to determine the MMφ, molecules in the BMP2/BMPR-Smad pathway, and PGP9.5, neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) expression of enteric neurons in the colon of each group. RESULTS: 1) HEA improved the gastrointestinal motility (gastrointestinal transit time, defecation frequency) of diabetic mice. 2) HEA reversed the decreased proportion of M2-like MMφ and expression of the CD206 in the colon of diabetic mice. 3) HEA restored the downregulations of BMP2, BMPR1b, and Smad1 in the BMP2/BMPR-Smad pathway and increased downstream enteric neurons marked by PGP9.5, nNOS in the colon of diabetes mice. CONCLUSIONS: HEA might promote gut dynamics by upregulating M2-like MMφ in the colon of diabetic mice, which in turn leads to the accumulation of molecules in the BMP2/BMPR-Smad signaling pathway and downstream enteric neurons.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is the fastest-growing neurodegenerative disease, with pathogenic causes elusive and short of effective treatment options. Investigations have found that dairy products positively correlate with the onset of PD, but the mechanisms remain unexplored. As casein is an antigenic component in dairy products, this study assessed if casein could exacerbate PD-related symptoms by stimulating intestinal inflammation and unbalanced intestinal flora and be a risk factor for PD. Using a convalescent PD mouse model induced by 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP), the results showed casein reduced motor coordination, caused gastrointestinal dysfunction, reduced dopamine content, and induced intestinal inflammation. Meanwhile, casein disturbed gut microbiota homeostasis by increasing the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio, decreasing α-diversity, and caused abnormal alterations in fecal metabolites. However, these adverse effects of casein attenuated much when it had hydrolyzed by acid or when antibiotics inhibited the intestinal microbiota of the mice. Therefore, our results suggested that casein could reactivate dopaminergic nerve injury and intestinal inflammation and exacerbate intestinal flora disorder and its metabolites in convalescent PD mice. These damaging effects might be related to disordered protein digestion and gut microbiota in these mice. These findings will provide new insights into the impact of milk/dairy products on PD progression and supply information on dietary options for PD patients.

Staphylococcus aureus is known for forming bacterial biofilms that confer increased antimicrobial resistance. Combining antibiotics with antibiofilm agents is an alternative approach, but the antibiofilm ability of prodigiosin (PG), a potential antibiotic synergist, against antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) S. aureus remains to be understood. The antibiofilm activity of PG against 29 clinical AMR S. aureus strains was evaluated using crystal violet staining, and its synergistic effects with vancomycin (VAN) was confirmed using the checkerboard test. The viability and metabolic activity of biofilms and planktonic cells were also assessed. The results revealed that PG exhibited promising inhibitory activity against biofilm formation and synergistic activity with VAN. It effectively reduced the metabolic activity of biofilms and suppressed the production of exopolysaccharides, which might be attributed to the downregulation of biofilm-related genes such as sarA, agrA, and icaA. These findings suggest that PG could be used as a preventive coating or adjuvant against biofilms in clinical settings.

PURPOSE: To investigate the effect of ultra-early visual correction and prognosis of myopic astigmatism after irrigation with the chilled balanced salt solution (BSS) during small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) surgery. METHODS: A prospective case-control study was enrolled from 202 patients (404 eyes) who had SMILE, and randomly divided into an intervention group and a control group (each group was 101 cases [202 eyes]). After lenticule extraction on SMILE, the corneal cap and the corneal incision were flushed with chilled saline in the intervention group, whereas the control group was flushed with room temperature saline. All patients in the two groups were examined for early complications before and 2 hours, 24 hours, and 7 days after surgery and the results were compared, and statistically analyzed, including the recovery degree of naked eye vision, ocular irritation symptoms, opaque bubble layer, diffuse lamellar keratitis (DLK), uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), and corrected distance visual acuity. RESULTS: The ocular irritation symptoms in the intervention group were milder than those in the control group at 2 hours after surgery, and the recovery of visual acuity at 2 and 24 hours after surgery was significantly faster than that in the control group, but there was no statistical difference in UDVA between the two groups at 7 days after surgery (P > .05). The incidence of DLK in the intervention group was lower than that in the control group, and the difference was significant (P = .041). CONCLUSIONS: Chilled BSS irrigation can reduce the emergency response of corneal tissue after SMILE, relieve ocular irritation, promote vision recovery, and relatively reduce incidence of early complications. BACKGROUND: Post-stroke depression (PSD) is a common mental disorder of stroke survivors, its pathogenesis remains elusive. Previous studies suggested a role of the microbiota-gut-brain (MGB) axis in stroke and depression. In this study, we characterized microbial composition and function, and gut-brain metabolic signatures, in PSD rats. We aim to explore how disordered gut microbes participate in the pathogenesis of PSD through the MGB axis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 16S rRNA gene sequence and fecal metabolome analysis were performed to identify the gut microbiome and their functional metabolites in PSD rats. Then, the lipid metabolic signatures in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) of PSD were conducted by liquid chromatography mass spectrometry. Finally, the potential pathway between gut and brain in the onset of PSD were explored. RESULTS: Compared to control and stroke rats, there were 10 genera (most of them belonged to phylum Firmicutes) significantly changed and 3 short chain fatty acids (SCFAs: butyric acid, acetic acid and pentanoic acid) significantly decreased in PSD rats. Meanwhile, altered gut microbial in PSD rats was significantly associated with these SCFAs. Compared with control and stroke rats, 57 lipid metabolites in the PFC of PSD rats were significantly changed. In addition, the altered SCFAs in PSD rats were also significantly correlated with most of disordered lipid metabolites in PFC. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that the SCFAs may be a bridge of gut-brain communication. The Firmicutes-SCFAs-lipid metabolism might be a potential pathway to further investigate the MGB axis and pathogenesis of PSD.

Prevention and control of infections have become a formidable challenge due to the increasing resistance of pathogens to antibiotics. Probiotics have been discovered to have positive effects on the host, and it is well-known that some Lactobacilli are effective in treating and preventing inflammatory and infectious diseases. In this study, we developed an antibacterial formulation consisting of honey and Lactobacillus plantarum (honey-L. plantarum). The optimal formulation of honey (10%) and L. plantarum (1 × 109 CFU/mL) was used to investigate its antimicrobial effect and mechanism in vitro, and its healing effect on wound healing of whole skin infections in rats. Biofilm crystalline violet staining and fluorescent staining results indicated that the honey-L. plantarum formulation prevented the biofilm formation in Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and increased the number of dead bacteria in the biofilms. Further mechanism studies revealed that the honey-L. plantarum formulation may inhibit biofilm formation by upregulating biofilm-related genes (icaA, icaR, sigB, sarA, and agrA) and downregulating quorum sensing (QS) associated genes (lasI, lasR, rhlI, rhlR, and pqsR). Furthermore, the honey-L. plantarum formulation decreased the number of bacteria in the infected wounds of rats and accelerated the formation of new connective tissue to promote wound healing. Our study suggests that the honey-L. plantarum formulation provides a promising option for the treatment of pathogenic infections and wound healing.

Golgi protein 73 (GP73) has been recognized as a biomarker for evaluating liver diseases, although the serum profile of patients with HIV remains unclear. This study was designed to investigate the diagnostic values of serum GP73 in patients with HIV. A total of 92 patients with HIV and 60 healthy participants were selected, and serum samples were collected; 51 of 92 patients were followed up and all indicators were re-tested after 1 year. Patients with HIV had significantly lower GP73 concentration, lower viral load, and higher CD4+ T cell counts after antiretroviral treatment. A significant correlation between the changes of GP73 level and CD4+ T cell count was observed. The CD4+ T cell count was significantly correlated with the glycosylated GP73 level. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) of GP73 to predict negative viral load-negative conversion alone was 0.705. When the cut-off value was set at 146.7 ng/mL, the sensitivity and specificity were 73% and 70% respectively. These results indicate that serum GP73 may have predictive ability for negative viral load-negative conversion.

AIMS: The aim of this study is to explore the mechanism by which three factors of compassion fatigue affect caring ability in young psychiatric nurses. METHODS: We used the Professional Quality of Life Scale and Caring Ability Inventory to investigate 309 young nurses in three psychiatric hospitals in Heilongjiang. Dominance analysis and chain mediation model were performed to explore the effects of three factors of compassion fatigue on caring ability. RESULTS: (1) The three factors of compassion fatigue affected the caring ability of young in the order compassion satisfaction > burnout>secondary traumatic stress by dominance analysis; (2) burnout played a partially mediating effect between compassion satisfaction and caring ability; and (3) secondary traumatic stress and burnout had a chain mediating effect between compassion satisfaction and caring ability. CONCLUSIONS: Higher levels of compassion satisfaction had the strongest impact on the caring ability of young psychiatric nurses which could be mediated via burnout and secondary traumatic stress. RESUMO

Prodigiosin (PG) is a secondary metabolite of microorganisms with anticancer, antimalarial, antibacterial and immunomodulatory effects. However, the modulatory effects on gut microbiome and intestinal immune microenvironment have never been explored in the ulcerative colitis (UC) mice model. In this study, 2.5% dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) induced UC mice model was constructed to investigate the effects of PG derived from a chromium-resistant Serratia sp. on the intestinal flora and inflammatory response. The results showed that prodigiosin administration attenuated the DSS-induced UC symptoms, including preventing the reduction of colonic length and DSS-induced mortality. Furthermore, prodigiosin ameliorated the DSS-induced gut microbiota community dysbiosis by restoring the abundance of Bacteroidota. At the genus level, the declined abundance of Bifidobacterium, Allobaculum and Akkermannia in UC mice was elevated by the treatment of PG. Pathological results by H&E staining showed that PG prevented the appearance of distortion and atrophy of crypt and neutrophil infiltration in a dose-dependent manner. RT-PCR revealed that the expression levels of the inflammatory factors IL-1ß, IL-6 and IL-10 were significantly suppressed, and the expression of the intestinal tight junction protein Claudin-1, Occludin and ZO-1 were upregulted in PG-treated UC mice. Conclusively, our results revealed that prodigiosin effectively prevented inflammatory response and protected intestinal barrier integrity of DSS-induced colitis mice via modulating gut microbiota community structure, suppressing inflammatory factors' expression, and accelerating the expression of intestinal tight junction protein. These results will provide new insights into the interaction of prodigiosin with intestinal microbiota homeostasis and its application in clinical against inflammatory bowel disease.

As an extension of the classical flow-shop scheduling problem, the hybrid flow-shop scheduling problem (HFSP) widely exists in large-scale industrial production systems and has been considered to be challenging for its complexity and flexibility. Evolutionary algorithms based on encoding and heuristic decoding approaches are shown effective in solving the HFSP. However, frequently used encoding and decoding strategies can only search a limited area of the solution space, thus leading to unsatisfactory performance during the later period. In this article, a hybrid evolutionary algorithm (HEA) using two solution representations is proposed to solve the HFSP for makespan minimization. First, the proposed HEA searches the solution space by a permutation-based encoding representation and two heuristic decoding methods to find some promising areas. Afterward, a Tabu search (TS) procedure based on a disjunctive graph representation is introduced to expand the searching space for further optimization. Two classical neighborhood structures focusing on critical paths are extended to the problem-specific backward schedules to generate candidate solutions for the TS. The proposed HEA is tested on three public HFSP benchmark sets from the existing literature, including 567 instances in total, and is compared with some state-of-the-art algorithms. Extensive experimental results indicate that the proposed HEA performs much better than the other algorithms. Moreover, the proposed method finds new best solutions for 285 hard instances.

In the present study, five experiments (N = 233) were designed to explore whether sourness as a sensory experience could implicitly impact social emotions of envy and jealousy in Chinese culture. Experiment 1 (n = 63) explored the implicit conceptual association between sourness words (vs. bitterness words) and envy/jealousy words. Experiment 2 (n = 70) and 3 (n = 20) examined the priming effects of imagined and tasted sourness (vs. bitterness and sweetness) on self-rated emotional intensity in envy- and jealousy-arousing situations, respectively. Experiment 4 (n = 40) and 5 (n = 40) further testified the priming effects of imagined and tasted sourness (vs. bitterness and sweetness) on self-rated emotional intensity in four types of social situations (i.e., envy, jealousy, sad and happy events), respectively. In the results, sourness was found as the only taste that not only conceptually associated with envy/jealousy, but also significantly primed envy/jealousy feelings. The possible mechanism underlying the association of sourness-envy/jealousy was discussed.

Overall comfort is the priority for the high-speed railway (HSR) passengers, while its influencing factors and mechanism are not yet apparent. According to the source functional brain network and subjective report, this study revealed the potential influencing factors and mechanisms of passengers overall comfort in high-speed railway environments. Here, an ergonomics field test with 20 subjects was conducted where subjective reports and electroencephalography (EEG) were collected. The electric-source imaging and functional connectivity were used to build the source functional brain network from EEG and network indices were extracted. Statistics analysis results showed that static comfort played the most critical role in the overall comfort, followed by emotional valence, emotional arousal, aural pressure comfort, vibration comfort, and noise comfort. Thermal and visual comfort were insignificant due to the well-designed heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) and lighting system of HSR. In addition, the source functional brain network of passengers who felt uncomfortable had the higher clustering coefficient, assortativity coefficient and global efficiency, which meant greater activation of brain compared with passengers who were in a state of comfort. According to the local attributes indices analysis, most key brain regions were located in the frontal and hippocampus, which revealed emotion and spatial perception contribute to the whole comfort degradation process. This work proposed novel insights into HSR passengers overall comfort according to subjective and objective methods. Our findings demonstrate emotional regulation and seat improvements are key factors for future improvement of HSR passengers overall comfort.

BACKGROUND: Reproductive concerns significantly affect the mental health of people, causing more serious psychological stress than disease. The reproductive concerns faced by women with schizophrenia are issues that have been neglected in the areas of psychiatry and women's health. OBJECTIVES: To explore the experience of reproductive concerns through the perspective of women with schizophrenia. DESIGN: Descriptive phenomenology interview study. SETTING: Data collection was carried out in a psychiatric hospital in China. PARTICIPANTS: 15 women with schizophrenia were recruited with a prospective sampling. All participants were 26-40 years old. METHODS: The interview recordings were transcribed by the research team, and transcripts were analyzed by two independent coders with Colaizzi's descriptive analysis framework. The process employed NVivo 12 software. RESULTS: Data analysis identified 9 subthemes falling into the 4 macrothemes: (a) Potential risks of reproduction; (b) The difficulties in raising children; (c) Significance of reproduction; (d) Multiparty cooperation is needed to relieve reproductive concerns. CONCLUSION: Women with schizophrenia have reproductive concerns under the conflict between the significance of reproduction and obstacles. Interventions to address the reproductive problems of women with schizophrenia should be developed in three areas: the women themselves, the women's spouses and the medical staff.
