Rotator cuff tear is a common shoulder injury in daily work and sports activities. Arthroscopic repair is the most widely used method for rotator cuff tears, and the postoperative prognosis is good. However, there are still a series of postoperative complications that affect the therapeutic effect and patient satisfaction, such as postoperative pain, infection, retear, shoulder stiffness, etc. This paper reviews the occurrence and influencing factors of shoulder stiffness after arthroscopic repair of rotator cuff tear, in order to provide reference for the prevention of postoperative shoulder stiffness and explore the mechanism of postoperative shoulder stiffness.

Objective: Loneliness is a prevalent issue among rural left-behind children in China, adversely affecting their physical and mental well-being, as well as social stability. However, the influencing factors and potential mechanisms of loneliness have not yet been fully clarified. This study aims to validate the mediating roles of social anxiety and psychological resilience by examining the association between affective/cognitive empathy and loneliness among Chinese rural left-behind children. Methods: This cross-sectional survey employed a convenience sampling approach among Chinese left-behind children. A total of 540 participants aged 6 to 11 years old (Average age = 8.54, SD = 1.682) from 3 primary schools in Hunan Province completed the Children's Loneliness Scale, Social Anxiety Scale for Children, The Chinese version of Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, and Basic Empathy Scale. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS 27.0, Origin 2020, and Mplus 8.3. Results: Pearson correlation analyses suggested strong significant correlations among affective/cognitive empathy, loneliness, social anxiety, and psychological resilience. Path analyses indicated that the chain mediation effect size of social anxiety and psychological resilience was 0.016 between affective empathy and loneliness, while the chain mediation effect size between cognitive empathy and loneliness was -0.011. Conclusion: Affective empathy positively correlates with loneliness among Chinese left-behind children through social anxiety and resilience, while cognitive empathy negatively correlates with loneliness. These findings suggest that left-behind children should enhance their cognitive empathy and psychological resilience to reduce their social anxiety, thereby mitigating their loneliness.

Background: As a crucial juncture in students' educational journey, junior high school presents challenges that profoundly influence well-being and academic performance. Physical activity emerges as a pivotal factor shaping the holistic development of junior high school students. Beyond its recognized impact on physical and mental health, engaging in regular physical activity proves effective in augmenting students' adaptability to school life. Despite its importance, the mechanisms through which physical activity influences school adaptation in junior high school students remain understudied in academic research. Objective: In exploring the potential mechanisms, this study aims to validate the mediating roles of resilience and coping styles by examining the association between physical activity and school adaptation among junior high school students. Methods: This study employed cross-sectional survey approach among junior high school students in China. Through the convenience sampling, 1,488 participants aged from 12 to 16 years old (Average age = 13.59, SD = 1.017) from two Junior high schools in Changsha City, Hunan Province were recruited to complete the Physical Activity Scale, School Adaptation Questionnaire for Junior High School Students, Resilience Scale for Adolescents, and Simple Coping Styles Questionnaire. For data analysis, the SPSS 26.0 and Amos 26.0 were used for statistical processing. Results: The results showed that physical activity exhibited a significant correlation with school adaptation (r = 0.656, p < 0.001). Resilience, positive coping style and negative coping style played partial mediating roles between physical activity and school adaptation, with the effect size were 0.229, 0.170, 0.171. The chain mediation effect size of resilience and positive coping style was 0.042, while the chain mediation effect size of resilience and negative coping style was 0.050. Conclusion: Physical activity positively predicts Chinese junior high school students' school adaptation through resilience and coping styles, suggesting that junior high school students should engage in regular physical activity, so as to improve their resilience and positive coping styles, mitigating negative coping styles, thus promoting their school adaptation.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have associated diabetes with reduced shoulder motion, increased pain, and higher postoperative retear risk after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR). However, the impact of glycemic control, measured by hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels, on retear and revision rates after ARCR in diabetic patients remains unclear. METHODS: This systematic review was conducted using the PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Embase databases according to the preferred reporting conventions for systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Only studies that compared retears and revisions in ARCR patients with documented HbA1c levels between controlled and uncontrolled diabetes groups were included. Relevant data were extracted and analyzed using STATA software. The methodological index for nonrandomized studies was employed to assess the risk of bias in the selected studies. Additionally, heterogeneity tests and sensitivity analyses were conducted to evaluate potential heterogeneity within the samples, and publication bias was also detected. RESULTS: Six studies (4395 patients), including five retrospective cohort studies and one caseâcontrol study, were included. Four of these studies assessed retears involving 253 patients. Lower HbA1c levels, indicating better glycemic control, were significantly associated with reduced retear rates after ARCR in diabetic patients (P = 0.000; odds ratio = 0.242, 95 % confidence interval: 0.128-0.454; I2 = 25 %). For revision evaluations, two studies, with a total of 4142 patients, found no significant difference in rates between controlled and uncontrolled diabetes groups, and no publication bias was detected. CONCLUSION: Following ARCR in diabetic patients, effective glycemic control significantly reduces retear rates without affecting revisions, and maintaining glycemic control in the postoperative period may contribute to rotator cuff healing.

OBJECTIVE: To systematically evaluate obesity on the outcome of rotator cuff repair. METHODS: Literatures on the relationship between obesity and outcomes after rotator cuff repair were searched from PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China biology medicine(CBM), CNKI, Wanfang and VIP databases from building database to August 1, 2022, and were screened independently by two authors according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Endnote X9 and Excel 2019 were used for literature extraction, management and data entry, and Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) was used to evaluate quality of the included literatures. STATA 16.0 and RevMan 5.4 softwares were used to evaluate postoperative retear rate, reoperation rate, complication rate, American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, visual analogue scale (VAS), operative time and external rotation angle of shoulder joint pain were analyzed. RESULTS: Totally 13 literatures were included, including 6 retrospective studies, 5 case-control studies, 1 prospective cohort study, and 1 abstract of a study for which the full text was not available, with 85 503 patients (31 973 in obese group and 53 530 in non-obese group). Meta-analysis showed there were statistical differences between two groups in retear rate [OR=2.58, 95%CI(1.23, 5.41), P=0.01], reoperation rate[OR=1.31, 95%CI(1.21, 1.42), P<0.00], complication rate [OR=1.57, 95%CI(1.31, 1.87), P=0.00], ASES score[MD=-3.59, 95%CI(-5.45, -1.74), P=0.00], and VAS[MD=0.24, 95%CI(0.00, 0.49), P=0.05]. While there were no differences between two groups in operative time[MD=6.03, 95%CI(-7.63, 19.69), P=0.39], external rotation angle of shoulder joint[MD=-1.79, 95%CI(-5.30, 1.71), P=0.32]. CONCLUSION: Obesity is associated with higher rates of retear, resurgery, complications, poorer shoulder function and pain after rotator cuff repair.

PURPOSE: To compare the clinical outcomes and retear rates after rotator cuff repair (RCR) between delaminated and non-delaminated tears. METHODS: This systematic review was conducted according to the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses guidelines using the PubMed, Cochrane Library, the Web of Science and Embase databases. Only articles on arthroscopic RCR with clinical outcome scores and data on the number of rotator cuff retears and complete healing were included. This study's relevant data were extracted and statistically analyzed. The methodological index for nonrandomized studies was used to assess the risk of bias in the included studies. After conducting a heterogeneity test and sensitivity analysis to determine whether the samples were heterogeneous, the study also detected publication bias. A sub-group test was used to evaluate the influences of the imaging follow-up period on retear rates. RESULTS: Ten eligible articles were identified with 2,061 patients (925 in the delaminated group and 1,136 in the non-delaminated group). The meta-analysis demonstrated that delamination was significantly associated with higher retear rates (P = 0.026; odds ratio = 1.873, 95% confidence interval 1.079-3.252; I2 = 51.6%) with an imaging follow-up period of > 1 year and lower rates of complete healing (P = 0.036; odds ratio = 0.659, 95% confidence interval 0.446-0.973; I2 = 9.0%) in patients after rotator cuff repair. However, no significant differences were observed between the two groups based on American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons score, Constant score, visual analog scale score, external rotation, internal rotation, or forward elevation. CONCLUSIONS: This meta-analysis found that delamination was significantly associated with higher retear rates with imaging follow-up period of > 1 year, and lower rates of complete healing. In addition, the preoperative and postoperative clinical scores and shoulder joint range of motion were similar between patients with delaminated and non-delaminated tears. The pollution of heavy metal ions in water seriously affects the ecosystem and human health. Here, an efficient synergetic photocatalytic-photothermal system is designed by combining a mildly oxidized Ti3C2 (mo-Ti3C2) with a super hydrophilic bamboo fiber (BF) membrane. The mo-Ti3C2 heterojunction promotes the transfer and separation of photoinduced charges and thus enhances the photocatalytic reduction of heavy metal ions (Co2+, Pb2+, Zn2+, Mn2+ and Cu2+). The photoreduced metal nanoparticles with high conductivity and LSPR effect further accelerate the transfer and separation of photoinduced charges, and improve photothermal and evaporative performance. The mo-Ti3C2-2.4 @BF membrane in Co(NO3)2 solution can achieve an excellent evaporation rate of 4.6 kg·m-2·h-1 and a high solar-vapor efficiency of up to 97.5% under the light intensity of 2.44 kW·m-2, which are 27.8% and 19.6% higher than those in H2O, respectively, demonstrating the reuse of photoreduced Co nanoparticles. No heavy metal ions are detected in any of the condensed water, and the Co2+ removal rate in the concentrated Co(NO3)2 solution is up to 80.4%. The synergetic photocatalytic-photothermal approach on the mo-Ti3C2 @BF membrane provides a new scope for the continuous removal and reuse of heavy metal ions, as well as for obtaining clean water.

BACKGROUND: Obesity influences the outcomes of orthopedic surgeries such as total knee arthroplasty and spinal surgery. However, the effect of obesity on the outcomes of rotator cuff repair is unknown. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to examine the effect of obesity on rotator cuff repair outcomes. METHODS: PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases were searched to identify relevant studies published from their inception till July 2022. Two reviewers independently screened titles and abstracts using the specified criteria. Articles were included if they indicated the effect of obesity on rotator cuff repair and the related outcomes after surgery. Review Manager 5.4.1 software was used to perform statistical analysis. RESULTS: Thirteen articles involving 85,497 patients were included. Obese patients had higher retear rates than nonobese patients (odds ratio [OR] 2.58, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.23-5.41, P = .01), lower American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons scores (mean difference [MD]: -3.59, 95% CI: -5.45 to [-1.74]; P = .0001), higher visual analog scale for pain (mean difference: 0.73, 95% CI: 0.29-1.17; P = .001), higher reoperation rates (OR 1.31, 95% CI 1.21-1.42, P < .00001), and higher rates of complications (OR 1.57, 95% CI 1.31-1.87, P = .000). Obesity did not affect the duration of surgery (MD: 6.03, 95% CI: -7.63 to 19.69; P = .39) or external rotation of the shoulder (MD: -1.79, 95% CI: -5.30 to 1.72; P = .32). CONCLUSION: Obesity is a significant risk factor for retear and reoperation after rotator cuff repair. Furthermore, obesity increases the risk of postoperative complications and leads to lower postoperative American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons scores and higher shoulder visual analog scale for pain.

The shoulder joint is the most flexible joint in the body with the largest range of motion, and the movement pattern is more complex. Accurate capture of three-dimensional motion data of the shoulder joint is crucial for biomechanical evaluation. Optical motion capture systems offer a non-invasive and radiation-free method to capture shoulder joint motion data during complex movements, enabling further biomechanical analysis of the shoulder joint. This review provides a comprehensive overview of optical motion capture technology in the context of shoulder joint movement, including measurement principles, data processing methods to reduce artifacts from skin and soft tissues, factors influencing measurement results, and applications in shoulder joint disorders.

Purpose: Fatty infiltration (FI) of the rotator cuff muscles occurs after rotator cuff tears (RCTs), which may affect the outcome of the repair procedure. This study aimed to determine the relationship between preoperative FI and the rate of re-tear and functional outcomes after rotator cuff repair. Methods: Computerized databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library database were searched for studies published from the inception date to January 2022. Two reviewers independently screened the titles and abstracts using prespecified criteria. Articles were included if they clearly stated the effect of varying degrees of FI on the outcome after shoulder cuff repair. Comparison was performed by different degrees of FI analysis: no FI is grade 0-1, FI is grade 2 and above. Statistical analysis was performed using Review Manager 5.4.1 software. Results: A total of 16 articles involving 1383 patients from 8 countries were included. The follow-up period ranged from 8 to 121 months. In terms of re-tear rate: patients with preoperative FI had significantly higher rates of re-tear compared with patients without FI (OR 4.60, 95% CI 2.22-9.54, p < 0.0001), supraspinatus FI VS no FI (OR 2.06, 95% CI 1.00-4.24, p = 0.05), infraspinatus FI VS no FI (OR 2.42, 95% CI 1.19-4.91, p = 0.01). In terms of functional scoring: patients without FI had higher postoperative Constant-Murley (Constant) scores than those with FI (MD - 5.06, 95% CI - 9.40 to - 0.72, p = 0.02), there was no clear evidence that preoperative FI was related to postoperative American Society of shoulder and elbow physicians scores and the University of California at Los Angeles scores and range of motion. Conclusion: FI after RCTs significantly increases the risk of postoperative re-tear and leads to worse functional scores, especially FI of the infraspinatus muscle. The aim of this study was to characterize the molecular evolution of P and V protein genes of the Newcastle disease virus (NDV). The P gene sequences of 55 NDV isolates, representing different chronological and geographic origins, were obtained from GenBank. In this paper, the evolution of the specific regions of the NDV P gene, encoding the P and V proteins, was analyzed. The nucleotides from the shared P/V region encoded the co-amino terminus of the two proteins, while the P-V/V-P region was respectively encoded by the nucleotides within the P ORF or the V ORF in the common sequence (after the mRNA editing site). As well, the P-cut region exclusively encoded the P protein. Finally, the P-V and V-P regions were further broken down into P1 and P2 fragments with the corresponding V1 and V2 fragments. In the P gene, the P-cut portion corresponding to the C-terminal of the P protein was the most highly conserved, while the P-V region was the most variable. This was interpreted as a lower constraint for function in the common sequence than in the unique P sequence that is known to contain an important function. Interestingly, in the common P-V/V-P function, variability of V1 was compensated by a higher conservation of the corresponding P1, and conversely for the P2/V2, which suggested that the flexibility of one ORF with less function served the purpose of allowing positive selection in the other overlapping ORF that exhibited more function.

The goal of this study is to research the genetic characteristics and relationship between HN and P genes of NDV. The nucleotide sequence and deduced amino acid sequence were analyzed for the Hemagglutinin-neuramindase (HN) and Phosphoprotein (P) gene of twelve field isolates of Newcastle disease virus (NDV) during 1997-2005 in China. The HN and P gene sequences of fifteen NDV reference strains from GenBank were also used in this study. The molecular evolution distance of nucleotides and amino acids were calculated by MEGA 4.0 software, and analysis of variance and correlations were analyzed by SPSS11.0 software among different length sequences of the HN gene or P gene. The nucleotide and amino acids correlation of HN and P gene were analyzed respectively. The correlation of evolution distance and isolation year were also calculated. The results indicated that there were difference and good correlation of nucleotide and amino acid among different length sequences of the HN gene or P gene. These results revealed that the HN and P gene of NDV have the different response to selective pressure to adopt to landscape and closely relationship on heredity mutations. Nucleotide variations of HN and P gene have relationship with isolation year of strains.
