RESUMO
Introduction: Soil salinization poses a significant environmental challenge affecting plant growth and agricultural sustainability. This study explores the potential of salt-tolerant endophytes to mitigate the adverse effects of soil salinization, emphasizing their impact on the development and resistance of Arachis hypogaea L. (peanuts). Methods: The diversity of culturable plant endophytic bacteria associated with Miscanthus lutarioriparius was investigated. The study focused on the effects of Bacillus tequilensis, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Bacillus siamensis on the development and germination of A. hypogaea seeds in pots subjected to high NaCl concentrations (200 mM L-1). Results: Under elevated NaCl concentrations, the inoculation of endophytes significantly (p < 0.05) enhanced seedling germination and increased the activities of enzymes such as Superoxide dismutase, catalase, and polyphenol oxidase, while reducing malondialdehyde and peroxidase levels. Additionally, endophyte inoculation resulted in increased root surface area, plant height, biomass contents, and leaf surface area of peanuts under NaCl stress. Transcriptome data revealed an augmented defense and resistance response induced by the applied endophyte (B. tequilensis, S. epidermidis, and B. siamensis) strain, including upregulation of abiotic stress related mechanisms such as fat metabolism, hormones, and glycosyl inositol phosphorylceramide (Na+ receptor). Na+ receptor under salt stress gate Ca2+ influx channels in plants. Notably, the synthesis of secondary metabolites, especially genes related to terpene and phenylpropanoid pathways, was highly regulated. Conclusion: The inoculated endophytes played a possible role in enhancing salt tolerance in peanuts. Future investigations should explore protein-protein interactions between plants and endophytes to unravel the mechanisms underlying endophyte-mediated salt resistance in plants.

The host lattice environments of Sb3+ has a great influence on its photophysical properties. Here, we synthesized three zero-dimensional organic metal halides of (TPA)2SbCl5 (1), Sb3+-doped (TPA)SnCl5(H2O)·2H2O (Sb3+-2), and Sb3+-doped (TPA)2SnCl6 (Sb3+-3). Compared with the intense orange emission of 1, Sb3+-3 has smaller lattice distortion, thus effectively suppressing the exciton transformation from singlet to triplet self-trapped exciton (STE) states, which makes Sb3+-3 has stronger singlet STE emission and further bring a white emission with a photoluminescence quantum efficiency (PLQE) of 93.4%. Conversely, the non-emission can be observed in Sb3+-2 even though it has a similar [SbCl5]2- structure to 1, which should be due to its indirect bandgap characteristics and the effective non-radiative relaxation caused by H2O in the lattice. Interestingly, the non-emission of Sb3+-2 can convert into the bright emission of Sb3+-3 under TPACl DMF solution treatment. Meanwhile, the white emission under 315 nm excitation of Sb3+-3 can change into orange emission upon 365 nm irradiation, and the luminescence can be further quenched by the treatment of HCl. Therefore, a triple-mode reversible luminescence switch of off-onI-onII-off can be achieved. Finally, we demonstrated the applications of Sb3+-doped compounds in single-component white light illumination, latent fingerprint detection, fluorescent anti-counterfeiting, and information encryption.

Liquid-free ionic conductive elastomers (ICEs) are ideal materials for constructing flexible electronic devices by avoiding the limitations of liquid components. However, developing all-solid-state ionic conductors with high mechanical strength, high ionic conductivity, excellent healing, and recyclability remains a great challenge. Herein, a series of liquid-free polyurethane-based ICEs with a double dynamic crosslinked structure are reported. As a result of interactions between multiple dynamic bonds (multi-level hydrogen bonds, disulfide bonds, and dynamic D-A bonds) and lithium-oxygen bonds, the optimal ICE exhibited a high mechanical strength (1.18 MPa), excellent ionic conductivity (0.14 mS cm-1), desirable healing capacity (healing efficiency >95%), and recyclability. A multi-functional wearable sensor based on the novel ICE enabled real-time and rapid detection of various human activities and enabled recognizing writing signals and encrypted information transmission. A triboelectric nanogenerator based on the novel ICE exhibited an excellent open-circuit voltage of 464 V, a short-circuit current of 16 µA, a transferred charge of 50 nC, and a power density of 720 mW m-2, enabling powering of small-scale electronic products. This study provides a feasible strategy for designing flexible sensor products and healing, self-powered devices, with promising prospects for application in soft ionic electronics.

Electrowetting displays (EWDs) based on microfluidics are highly sought after in the fields of electronic devices, smart homes, and information communication. However, the power supply of the EWD systems for visually engaging multi-color displays remains a big challenge. Herein, self-powered colorful dynamic display systems are developed by integrating the triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) with the EWD device. The TENG is designed with a nanotube-patterned surface and can generate open-circuit voltages ranging from 30 to 295 V by controlling the contact area. The wetting property of the micro-droplet exhibits a response to the applied voltage, enabling the triboelectricity-triggered electrowetting-on-dielectric. Driven by the voltage of 160 V, the monochromatic EWD exhibits bright color switching from magenta to transparent with a pixel aperture ratio of 78%, and the recovery process can be rapidly completed. Furthermore, the self-powered colorful dynamic EWD system can be achieved. By selectively applying the voltage to the pixels in the three monochromatic layers that constitute the colorful EWD, the wetting properties of the fluids can be controlled, allowing for colorful dynamic display. This work contributes to the advancement of color display technology for portable and wearable electronic ink displays, indoor and outdoor sports equipment, and information communication.
RESUMO
Cowpea, Vigna unguiculata L. Walp., is a diploid warm-season legume of critical importance as both food and fodder in sub-Saharan Africa. This species is also grown in Northern Africa, Europe, Latin America, North America, and East to Southeast Asia. To capture the genomic diversity of domesticates of this important legume, de novo genome assemblies were produced for representatives of six subpopulations of cultivated cowpea identified previously from genotyping of several hundred diverse accessions. In the most complete assembly (IT97K-499-35), 26,026 core and 4963 noncore genes were identified, with 35,436 pan genes when considering all seven accessions. GO terms associated with response to stress and defense response were highly enriched among the noncore genes, while core genes were enriched in terms related to transcription factor activity, and transport and metabolic processes. Over 5 million single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) relative to each assembly and over 40 structural variants >1 Mb in size were identified by comparing genomes. Vu10 was the chromosome with the highest frequency of SNPs, and Vu04 had the most structural variants. Noncore genes harbor a larger proportion of potentially disruptive variants than core genes, including missense, stop gain, and frameshift mutations; this suggests that noncore genes substantially contribute to diversity within domesticated cowpea.

Introduction: Endophytes and their host plants have co-evolved for a very long time. This relationship has led to the general recognition of endophytes as a particular class of microbial resources. R. pseudoacacia 'Hongsen' is drought- and barren-resistant species that can be grown in both the north and south of China, efficiently addresses the ecological issues caused by China's 'southern eucalyptus and northern poplar. Up to date, cultured-dependent studies are available for the R. pseudoacacia nitrogen-fixing and other endophytes. Therefore, the present research studied the R. pseudoacacia 'Hongsen,' microbiome in detail by high-throughput sequencing and culture dependant. Methods: This study examined microbial species and functional diversity in Robinia pseudoacacia 'Hongsen' using culture-dependent (isolation) and culture-independent techniques. Results: A total of 210 isolates were isolated from R. pseudoacacia 'Hongsen.' These isolates were clustered into 16 groups by the In Situ PCR (IS-PCR) fingerprinting patterns. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis of the representative strain of each group revealed that these groups belonged to 16 species of 8 genera, demonstrating the diversity of endophytes in R. pseudoacacia 'Hongsen'. 'Bacillus is the most prevalent genus among all the endophytic bacteria. High-throughput sequencing of endophytic bacteria from R. pseudoacacia 'Hongsen' of the plant and the rhizosphere soil bacteria showed that the bacterial populations of soil near the root, leaf, and rhizosphere differed significantly. The microbial abundance decreased in the endophytes as compared to the rhizosphere. We observed a similar community structure of roots and leaves. With and without root nodules, Mesorhizobium sp. was significantly different in R. pseudoacacia 'Hongsen' plant. Discussion: It was predicted that R. pseudoacacia 'Hongsen' plant endophytic bacteria would play a significant role in the metabolic process, such as carbohydrate metabolism, amino acid metabolism, membrane transport, and energy metabolism.
RESUMO
The practical application of photocatalytic coating has been greatly challenged in terms of its long-term effective natural light photocatalytic degradation due to its vulnerability and easy contamination caused by poor self-cleaning properties. In this work, photocatalytic coating with self-cleaning properties was prepared by spraying fluorinated dual-scale TiO2 on the inorganic lithium silicate adhesive, enabling excellent durability and long-term effective photocatalytic degradation performance under natural light. The coating exhibits superhydrophobic properties even after abrasion testing, acid and alkali immersion testing, and UV aging, laying a foundation for the practical use. Moreover, the coating can be applied to various substrates and its excellent self-cleaning properties make it resistant to particulate and liquid contamination that may occur in the environment. Besides, we evaluated the photocatalytic stability of the coating by subjecting it to acidic and alkaline environments and high pollution concentrations. Furthermore, benefiting from the synergistic effect of photocatalytic and self-cleaning properties, the coating achieves long-term effective photocatalytic degradation of dye wastewater under natural light, which still has a high removal rate of 95.8% for methylene blue even after 30 cycles of use. Meanwhile, due to the coating's excellent durability, the long-term quality loss rate of the coating still remained below 0.3%, which avoids the risk of secondary environmental pollution caused by nanoparticle leakage. Therefore, these excellent properties enable the coating to have a broad range of application prospects for the treatment of pollutants in water.

Background: Early-onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC) has an alarmingly increasing trend and arouses increasing attention. Causes of death in EOCRC population remain unclear. Methods: Data of EOCRC patients (1975-2018) were extracted from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. Distribution of death was calculated, and death risk of each cause was compared with the general population by calculating standard mortality ratios (SMRs) at different follow-up time. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression models were utilized to identify independent prognostic factors for overall survival (OS). Results: The study included 36,013 patients, among whom 9,998 (27.7%) patients died of colorectal cancer (CRC) and 6,305 (17.5%) patients died of non-CRC causes. CRC death accounted for a high proportion of 74.8%-90.7% death cases within 10 years, while non-CRC death (especially cardiocerebrovascular disease death) was the major cause of death after 10 years. Non-cancer death had the highest SMR in EOCRC population within the first year after cancer diagnosis. Kidney disease [SMR = 2.10; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.65-2.64] and infection (SMR = 1.92; 95% CI, 1.48-2.46) were two high-risk causes of death. Age at diagnosis, race, sex, year of diagnosis, grade, SEER stage, and surgery were independent prognostic factors for OS. Conclusion: Most of EOCRC patients died of CRC within 10-year follow-up, while most of patients died of non-CRC causes after 10 years. Within the first year after cancer diagnosis, patients had high non-CRC death risk compared to the general population. Our findings help to guide risk monitoring and management for US EOCRC patients.
RESUMO
Babesiosis is a malaria-like disease in humans and animals that is caused by Babesia species, which are tick-transmitted apicomplexan pathogens. Babesia duncani causes severe to lethal infection in humans, but despite the risk that this parasite poses as an emerging pathogen, little is known about its biology, metabolic requirements or pathogenesis. Unlike other apicomplexan parasites that infect red blood cells, B. duncani can be continuously cultured in vitro in human erythrocytes and can infect mice resulting in fulminant babesiosis and death. We report comprehensive, detailed molecular, genomic, transcriptomic and epigenetic analyses to gain insights into the biology of B. duncani. We completed the assembly, 3D structure and annotation of its nuclear genome, and analysed its transcriptomic and epigenetics profiles during its asexual life cycle stages in human erythrocytes. We used RNA-seq data to produce an atlas of parasite metabolism during its intraerythrocytic life cycle. Characterization of the B. duncani genome, epigenome and transcriptome identified classes of candidate virulence factors, antigens for diagnosis of active infection and several attractive drug targets. Furthermore, metabolic reconstitutions from genome annotation and in vitro efficacy studies identified antifolates, pyrimethamine and WR-99210 as potent inhibitors of B. duncani to establish a pipeline of small molecules that could be developed as effective therapies for the treatment of human babesiosis.

Natural isolates of the potato and tomato pathogen Phytophthora infestans exhibit substantial variation in virulence, chemical sensitivity, ploidy, and other traits. A chromosome-scale assembly was developed to expand genomic resources for this oomyceteous microbe, and used to explore the basis of variation. Using PacBio and Illumina data, a long-range linking library, and an optical map, an assembly was created and coalesced into 15 pseudochromosomes spanning 219 Mb using SNP-based genetic linkage data. De novo gene prediction combined with transcript evidence identified 19,981 protein-coding genes, plus about eight thousand tRNA genes. The chromosomes were comprised of a mosaic of gene-rich and gene-sparse regions plus very long centromeres. Genes exhibited a biased distribution across chromosomes, especially members of families encoding RXLR and CRN effectors which clustered on certain chromosomes. Strikingly, half of F1 progeny of diploid parents were polyploid or aneuploid. Substantial expression level polymorphisms between strains were identified, much of which could be attributed to differences in chromosome dosage, transposable element insertions, and adjacency to repetitive DNA. QTL analysis identified a locus on the right arm of chromosome 3 governing sensitivity to the crop protection chemical metalaxyl. Strains heterozygous for resistance often experienced megabase-sized deletions of that part of the chromosome when cultured on metalaxyl, increasing resistance due to loss of the sensitive allele. This study sheds light on diverse phenomena affecting variation in P. infestans and relatives, helps explain the prevalence of polyploidy in natural populations, and provides a new foundation for biologic and genetic investigations.

Braille recognition is of great significance for the visually impaired and blind people to achieve convenient communication and learning. A self-powered Braille recognition sensing system with long-term survivability and phonic function could provide those people with greatly enhanced access to information and thus improve their living quality. Herein, we develop a skin-like self-powered Braille recognition sensor with self-healing, temperature-resistant and stretchable properties, which is further connected with the designed audio system to realize real-time conversion from mechanical stimulus to electrical signals and then to audio signals. The sensor is fabricated using dynamic interaction-based self-healing materials, which constitute an imine bond-based cross-linked polymer for the triboelectric layer and a hydrogen bond-based organohydrogel for the electrode layer. Moreover, the conductive organohydrogel-based electrode is provided with stretchable, anti-freezing, and non-drying properties. Consequently, minimized impact on the output performance of the sensor is found under mechanical impact, harsh environments and large deformation, enabling a long lifespan, high durability, and good stability. The self-powered sensor can be applied in a Braille recognition system, in which the Braille characters can be further decoded and read out. This work shows a reliable and flexible device with promising prospects in information technology.

The effective detection of hazardous gases has become extremely necessary for the ecological environment and public health. Interfacial engineering plays an indispensable role in the development of innovative materials with exceptional properties, thus triggering a new revolution in the realization of high-performance gas sensing. Herein, the rational designed Ag2S/SnS2 heterostructures were synthesized via a facile in-situ cation-exchange method. The coshared S atoms derived from in-situ interfacial engineering enable intimate atomic-level contact and strong electron coupling between SnS2 and Ag2S, which efficiently assist interfacial charge redistribution and transport as confirmed theoretically and experimentally. Benefiting from the high-quality interface of the heterostructures, the resultant Ag2S/SnS2 sensor delivered an ultrahigh response (286%) together with short response/recovery time (17 s/38 s) to 1 ppm NO2. The sensor also demonstrated superior sensing selectivity and reliable repeatability at room-temperature. Such excellent sensing performance could be synergistically ascribed to the junction effect and interfacial engineering of Ag2S/SnS2 heterostructures, which not only modulates the electronic properties of SnS2 but also provides abundant adsorption sites for gas sensing. This study offers guidance for engineering heterostructures with high-quality interface, which might stimulate the exploitation of other novel materials and widen their potential applications.

BACKGROUND: The pan-genome of a species is the union of the genes and non-coding sequences present in all individuals (cultivar, accessions, or strains) within that species. RESULTS: Here we introduce PGV, a reference-agnostic representation of the pan-genome of a species based on the notion of consensus ordering. Our experimental results demonstrate that PGV enables an intuitive, effective and interactive visualization of a pan-genome by providing a genome browser that can elucidate complex structural genomic variations. CONCLUSIONS: The PGV software can be installed via conda or downloaded from https://github.com/ucrbioinfo/PGV . The companion PGV browser at http://pgv.cs.ucr.edu can be tested using example bed tracks available from the GitHub page.

Cytogenomic resources have accelerated synteny and chromosome evolution studies in plant species, including legumes. Here, we established the first cytogenetic map of V. angularis (Va, subgenus Ceratotropis) and compared this new map with those of V. unguiculata (Vu, subgenus Vigna) and P. vulgaris (Pv) by BAC-FISH and oligopainting approaches. We mapped 19 Vu BACs and 35S rDNA probes to the 11 chromosome pairs of Va, Vu, and Pv. Vigna angularis shared a high degree of macrosynteny with Vu and Pv, with five conserved syntenic chromosomes. Additionally, we developed two oligo probes (Pv2 and Pv3) used to paint Vigna orthologous chromosomes. We confirmed two reciprocal translocations (chromosomes 2 and 3 and 1 and 8) that have occurred after the Vigna and Phaseolus divergence (~9.7 Mya). Besides, two inversions (2 and 4) and one translocation (1 and 5) have occurred after Vigna and Ceratotropis subgenera separation (~3.6 Mya). We also observed distinct oligopainting patterns for chromosomes 2 and 3 of Vigna species. Both Vigna species shared similar major rearrangements compared to Pv: one translocation (2 and 3) and one inversion (chromosome 3). The sequence synteny identified additional inversions and/or intrachromosomal translocations involving pericentromeric regions of both orthologous chromosomes. We propose chromosomes 2 and 3 as hotspots for chromosomal rearrangements and de novo centromere formation within and between Vigna and Phaseolus. Our BAC- and oligo-FISH mapping contributed to physically trace the chromosome evolution of Vigna and Phaseolus and its application in further studies of both genera.

Gestational diseases are associated with altered intestinal microbiota in pregnant women. Characterizing the gut microbiota of gestational anemia (GA) may describe a novel role of gut microbial abnormality in GA. In this study, we investigated differences in gut microbiota between GA patients and healthy pregnant women from the first trimester (n = 24 vs. 54) and the third trimester (n = 30 vs. 56) based on the 16S rRNA gene sequencing method. No statistically significant differences in α-diversity were identified between GA patients and controls in the first trimester of pregnancy, whereas the Shannon index and observed OTUs were significantly lower in GA patients than in healthy controls in the third trimester. Distance-based redundancy analysis revealed striking differences in microbial communities in the third trimester between GA patients and controls. Four genera were significantly different in relative abundance between GA patients and healthy controls, while 12 genera differentiated significantly between GA patients and healthy controls in the third trimester. At the operational taxonomic unit (OTU) level, 17 OTUs and 30 OTUs were identified to be different between GA patients and healthy controls in the first and third trimesters, respectively. Changes in gut microbial composition of GA patients suggest a potential relation with GA, and provide insights into the prediction and intervention of gestational anemia.

Sensing material with high sensitivity, excellent selectivity and ultra-low detection limit is crucial for monitoring formaldehyde, which is a kind of hazardous gas to human health at very low concentration. Some one-dimensional semiconductor metal oxides show acceptable responses towards formaldehyde. However, the detection limit and selectivity of these sensors are still not satisfied, especially at ppb level. Herein, alkali metals (K, Na) doped CdGa2O4 nanofibers with excellent formaldehyde sensing performance are prepared by an electrospinning method. These nanofibers have been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy (EPR), elemental mapping and other techniques. As a result, the sensor based on 7.5 at.% K doped CdGa2O4 gives remarkably improved formaldehyde sensing properties compared with that of pristine CdGa2O4. The greatly increased sensitivity and selectivity should be attributed to the increased chemisorbed oxygen and the enhanced basicity caused by the additional alkali metal, respectively. All in all, the 7.5 at.% K doped CdGa2O4 is a good candidate for the rapid detecting formaldehyde at ppb level.
RESUMO
The woman's gut microbiota during pregnancy may support nutrient acquisition, is associated with diseases, and has been linked to infant health. However, there is limited information on gut microbial characteristics and dependence in pregnant women. In this study, we provide a comprehensive overview of the gut microbial characteristics of 1479 pregnant women using 16S rRNA gene sequencing of fecal samples. We identify a core microbiota of pregnant women, which displays a similar overall structure to that of age-matched nonpregnant women. Our data show that the gestational age-associated variation in the gut microbiota, from the ninth week of gestation to antepartum, is relatively limited. Building upon rich metadata, we reveal a set of exogenous and intrinsic host factors that are highly correlated with the variation in gut microbial community composition and function. These microbiota covariates are concentrated in basic host properties (e.g., age and residency status) and blood clinical parameters, suggesting that individual heterogeneity is the major force shaping the gut microbiome during pregnancy. Moreover, we identify microbial and functional markers that are associated with age, pre-pregnancy body mass index, residency status, and pre-pregnancy and gestational diseases. The gut microbiota during pregnancy is also different between women with high or low gestational weight gain. Our study demonstrates the structure, gestational age-associated variation, and associations with host factors of the gut microbiota during pregnancy and strengthens the understanding of microbe-host interactions. The results from this study offer new materials and prospects for gut microbiome research in clinical and diagnostic fields.

PURPOSE: To compare the anatomical and functional outcomes of the inverted internal limiting membrane (ILM) flap technique and the autologous blood clot (ABC) to ILM insertion technique for the repair of refractory macular hole (RMH). METHODS: Fifty-two consecutive patients (52 eyes) diagnosed with RMH with a minimum diameter more than 700 µm were enrolled. All patients underwent vitrectomy and gas tamponade. Of these, 25 patients undergo inverted ILM flap combination with ABC (Group A). The remaining 27 patients underwent ILM insertion (Group B). The main outcome measures were macular hole (MH) closure, foveal configuration, logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution (logMAR), best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), superficial foveal avascular zone (FAZ) and superficial parafoveal vessel density. RESULTS: Three months post-operation, MH was successfully anatomic closed in 24 of 25 eyes (96%) in Group A and 25 of 27 eyes (92.5%) in Group B (P = 0.599). A concave foveal configuration of MH closure was observed in 23 of 25 eyes (92%) in Group A and 2 of 27 eyes (7.4%) in Group B (P < 0.001). Mean BCVA (logMAR) had improved from 1.31 ± 0.61 to 0.68 ± 0.40 in Group A (P < 0.001) and from 1.34 ± 0.39 to 1.29 ± 0.62 in Group B (P = 0.584) at 3 months. Average superficial FAZ area and superficial parafoveal vessel density were 0.29 ± 0.08 mm2 and 51.41 ± 2.79% in Group A and 0.73 ± 0.15 mm2 and 43.77 ± 2.71% in Group B, respectively. There was a significant difference in both the average superficial FAZ area and parafoveal vessel density between Groups A and B (P < 0.001 for both). CONCLUSION: Anatomical foveal configuration, mean BCVA (logMAR), mean superficial FAZ and parafoveal vessel density outcomes for the inverted ILM flap combined with ABC approach were better than the outcomes obtained with ILM insertion in the treatment of RMH. This approach may promote better long-term, vision function outcomes for patients diagnosed with RMH.

Kawasaki disease (KD) is also called mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome and is an acute febrile pediatric disease characterized by systemic vasculitis. KD typically occurs in children 5 years old or younger and occurs more often in males than in females. miRNA-608 has been reported to interact with interleukin-6 and affect innate immunity. The immune-mediated inflammation could induce the occurrence of KD; however, there is no previous research focused on the relationship between miRNA-608 polymorphism and the KD risk. The present study explored the correlation between the miRNA-608 rs4919510 G>C polymorphism and the risk for KD. We recruited 532 patients with KD and 623 controls to genotype the miRNA-608 rs4919510 G>C polymorphism with a TaqMan allelic discrimination assay. Single-locus analysis showed no significant association between miRNA rs4919510 G>C polymorphism and KD susceptibility. However in an analysis stratified by age, gender, and coronary artery lesion (CAL), we found a relationship between the miRNA-608 rs4919510 G>C polymorphism and KD susceptibility. When KD patients were stratified by coronary injury, the CG/CC genotypes of the miRNA-608 rs4919510 G>C polymorphism contributed to a higher occurrence of KD than that was found in the GG genotype patients (adjusted odds ratio = 0.74, 95% CI = 0.56-0.98, P = 0.033). The present study demonstrated that the miRNA-608 rs4919510 G>C polymorphism may have a CAL-related relationship with KD susceptibility that has not been previously revealed.

Cardiovascula disease and recurrent miscarriage have shared risk factors, and some cardiovascular disease-related candidate genes have been confirmed to be associated with recurrent miscarriage. Metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) that is considered to be associated with susceptibility to cardiovascular disease. However, whether lncRNA MALAT1 polymorphisms are related to recurrent miscarriage susceptibility is unclear. We genotyped three lncRNA MALAT1 polymorphisms (rs591291, rs619586, and rs3200401) in 284 patients and 392 controls using TaqMan methods. Logistic regression was used to evaluate the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) adjusted for age. Our results showed that the rs619586 G variant had protective effects against recurrent miscarriage (AG vs. AA: adjusted OR = 0.670, 95% CI = 0.457-0.982, p = 0.040; GG vs. AA: adjusted OR = 0.278, 95% CI = 0.079-0.975, p = 0.046; GG/AG vs. AA adjusted OR = 0.621, 95% CI = 0.429-0.900, p = 0.012). In a combined analyses of protective genotypes, with regard to the three single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), we found that individuals with two or three protective genotypes exhibited a significantly lower risk of recurrent miscarriage than those with no or only one protective genotype (adjusted OR = 0.369, 95% CI = 0.199-0.684, p = 0.002). Moreover, the decrease in recurrent miscarriage risk with two or three protective genotypes was most pronounced in women less than 35 years of age (OR = 0.290, 95% CI = 0.142-0.589, p < 0.001) and in women with 2-3 miscarriages (adjusted OR = 0.270, 95% CI = 0.126-0.580, p < 0.001). In conclusion, our study suggests that the rs619586 G variant may have potential protective effects conferring a decreased risk of recurrent miscarriage in the southern Chinese population.
