RESUMO

Objective: To explore the biomechanical factors affecting the stability of athletes in the 143D balance phase of competitive Tai Chi. Method: The Vicon 3D motion capture system, Kistler 3D force platform, and Noraxon surface electromyography (sEMG) system were used to measure the joint angle, joint moment, center of gravity, ground reaction force, and sEMG data of athletes. The stability index was then calculated according to the formula. Pearson's or Spearman's correlation tests were used to analyze the associations between the biomechanical factors and stability index. Results: (1) Medial lateral stability index (MLSI): A significant negative correlation was found between the ankle inversion angle of the supporting leg (SL) and MLSI (p < 0.05). (2) Anterior posterior stability index (APSI): Significant negative correlations were observed between the ankle intorsion angle, integrated electromyography (iEMG) of the gastrocnemius, and muscle contribution rates of the tibialis anterior, external oblique, and gastrocnemius of the non-supporting leg (NL) with the APSI (p < 0.05). The ankle dorsiflexion moment, iEMG of the rectus femoris and tibialis anterior, muscle contribution rate of the biceps femoris, and root mean-squared (RMS) amplitude of the gluteus maximus of the SL also showed significant negative correlations with the APSI (p < 0.05). Strong and significant negative correlations were also identified between the hip intorsion angle, iEMG of the tibialis anterior, and RMS amplitude of the rectus femoris of the NL with the APSI (p < 0.01). Further strong and significant negative correlation was also found between the RMS amplitude of the biceps femoris of the SL and APSI (p < 0.01). The knee extorsion angle of the NL was positively correlated with the APSI (p < 0.05). (3) Dynamic postural stability index (DPSI): The knee adduction angle, iEMG of the tibialis anterior, and RMS amplitude of the erector spinae of the NL were significantly positively correlated with the DPSI (p < 0.05). The knee abduction and hip extension moments of the SL were also significantly positively correlated with the DPSI (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The ankle inversion angle of the SL impacts left-right stability, while the NL's hip and ankle intorsion angles, knee extorsion angle, and exertion on the core muscle and SL's main muscles, as well as exertion of specific muscles of the NL affect anterior-posterior stability. The hip extension and knee abduction moments of the SL, knee adduction angle, exertion on the tibialis anterior, and activation of the erector spinae of the NL significantly affect the overall stability of an athlete.

RESUMO

Objective: The purpose of this study is to analyze the inherent relationship between the score values and the biomechanical characteristics of the forward kicking motion, we aim to identify the fundamental variables influencing the score values of the forward kicking motion and establish the key biomechanical factors that effectively trigger scoring in the forward kicking motion. Methods: The DaeDo electronic scoring system was used with the Vicon optical motion capture system and the Kistler 3D force platform to obtain kinematic and kinetic variables of the front roundhouse kick motion. Linear bivariate correlation analysis and principal component analysis were used to analyze the associations between kinematic, kinetic variables, and scoring values, and summarize key biomechanical factors for effectively scoring. Results: The peak ankle plantar flexion angle and knee extension torque of the kicking leg showed a significant negative correlation with scoring values (r < 0, p < 0.05), while other variables showed no statistical significance. The peak knee flexion angle and hip extension angular velocity of the supporting leg showed a significant positive correlation with scoring values (r > 0, p < 0.01), while the peak ankle plantar flexion torque showed a significant negative correlation with scoring values (r < 0, p < 0.05), and other variables showed no statistically significant correlation. The absolute values of eigenvectors of the first and second principal components, which included hip angular velocity, ankle angle, knee torque, and hip torque, were relatively large, indicating their strong influence on effective scoring triggering. Conclusion: Maintaining ankle dorsiflexion and a larger knee flexion angle in the kicking leg is favorable for triggering scoring. Higher knee flexion angle and hip extension angular velocity in the supporting leg are also advantageous for triggering scoring. "Body posture" and "Strength" are key factors that effectively trigger scoring.

RESUMO

Multidrug-resistant bacteria resulting from the abuse and overuse of antibiotics have become a huge crisis in global public health security. Therefore, it is urgently needed to develop new antibacterial drugs with unique mechanisms of action. As a versatile moiety, morpholine has been widely employed to enhance the potency of numerous bioactive molecules. In this study, a series of ruthenium-based antibacterial agents modified with the morpholine moiety were designed and characterized, aiming to obtain a promising metalloantibiotic with a multitarget mechanism. Antibacterial activity screening demonstrated that the most active complex Ru(ii)-3 exhibited the strongest potency against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) with an MIC value of only 0.78 µg mL-1, which is better than most clinically used antibiotics. Notably, Ru(ii)-3 not only possessed excellent bactericidal efficacy, but could also overcome bacterial resistance. Importantly, Ru(ii)-3 very efficiently removed biofilms produced by bacteria, inhibited the secretion of bacterial exotoxins, and enhanced the activity of many existing antibiotics. The results of mechanism studies confirmed that Ru(ii)-3 could destroy the bacterial membrane and induce ROS production in bacteria. Furthermore, animal infection models confirmed that Ru(ii)-3 showed significant anti-infective activity in vivo. Overall, this work demonstrated that a morpholine-modified ruthenium-based agent is a promising antibiotic candidate in tackling the crisis of drug-resistant bacteria.

RESUMO

The rapid emergence and spread of multidrug-resistant bacteria pose a serious challenge to human life and health, necessitating the development of novel antibacterial agents. Herein, to address this challenge, three iridium-based antibacterial agents were prepared and their antimicrobial activity were explored. Importantly, the three complexes all showed robust potency against S. aureus with MIC values in the range of 1.9-7.9 µg mL-1. Notably, the most active complex Ir3 also exhibited relative stability in mammalian fluids and a significant antibacterial effect on clinically isolated drug-resistant bacteria. Mechanism studies further demonstrated that the complex Ir3 can kill S. aureus by disrupting the integrity of the bacterial membrane and inducing ROS production. This multi-target advantage allows Ir3 to not only effectively combat bacterial resistance but also efficiently clear the bacterial biofilm. In addition, when used together, complex Ir3 could enhance the antibacterial potency of some clinical antibiotics against S. aureus. Moreover, both G. mellonella wax worms and mouse infection model demonstrated that Ir3 has low toxicity and robust anti-infective efficacy in vivo. Overall, complex Ir3 can serve as a new antibacterial agent for combating Gram-positive bacterial infections.

RESUMO

Bimodal objects, such as the checkerboard pattern used in camera calibration, markers for object tracking, and text on road signs, to name a few, are prevalent in our daily lives and serve as a visual form to embed information that can be easily recognized by vision systems. While binarization from intensity images is crucial for extracting the embedded information in the bimodal objects, few previous works consider the task of binarization of blurry images due to the relative motion between the vision sensor and the environment. The blurry images can result in a loss in the binarization quality and thus degrade the downstream applications where the vision system is in motion. Recently, neuromorphic cameras offer new capabilities for alleviating motion blur, but it is non-trivial to first deblur and then binarize the images in a real-time manner. In this work, we propose an event-based binary reconstruction method that leverages the prior knowledge of the bimodal target's properties to perform inference independently in both event space and image space and merge the results from both domains to generate a sharp binary image. We also develop an efficient integration method to propagate this binary image to high frame rate binary video. Finally, we develop a novel method to naturally fuse events and images for unsupervised threshold identification. The proposed method is evaluated in publicly available and our collected data sequence, and shows the proposed method can outperform the SOTA methods to generate high frame rate binary video in real-time on CPU-only devices.

RESUMO

The indoor air quality has a direct impact on human health. In order to obtain the current status of indoor air quality in typical sports buildings in hot summer and cold winter climate zones in China, indoor badminton courts in 10 cities in Hubei Province in this climate zone were selected as research objects for field testing of indoor environmental parameters in spring and autumn, and predict air quality parameters for non-testing times. All the tested stadiums are naturally ventilated in non-event conditions, and the average daily indoor CO2 concentration was 526.78 ppm in spring and 527.63 ppm in autumn, and the average daily PM2.5 concentration was 0.035 mg/m3 in spring and 0.024 mg/m3 in autumn, all of which met the requirements of GB/T 18883-2022, the average concentration of CO2 ≤ 1000 ppm and PM2.5 ≤ 0.05 mg/m3. The indoor CO2 concentration and PM2.5 concentration of the tested badminton halls under natural ventilation gradually increased with the accumulation of exercise time, making the indoor air quality of the badminton halls decrease, which would negatively affect the health of the people exercising in this environment.

RESUMO

A series of novel dibutyltin complexes based on salen-like ligands (S01-S03) were synthesized and characterized using ultraviolet-visible spectra, infrared spectra, 1H, 13C, and 119Sn nuclear magnetic resonance, high-resolution mass spectrometry, X-ray crystallography, and thermogravimetric analysis. Complex S03 had excellent anticancer activity in vitro (IC50 = 1.5 ± 0.2 µM in CAL-27 cell lines), which highly activated ROS expression levels and induced apoptosis and cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase. Interestingly, complex S03 induced cancer cell death through multiple mechanisms (mitochondrial pathway, ER-stress pathway, and DNA damage pathway). This study reveals new mechanisms of organotin complexes and provides new insights into the development of organotin metal complexes as anticancer drugs in the future, and compounds with multiple anticancer mechanisms may be a new strategy for delaying or overcoming drug resistance to chemotherapy and target therapy.

RESUMO

Background: The Double Roundhouse Kick (DRK) is one of the major scoring tools and athletes employ the leg of the dominant side (DS) or the non-dominant side (NS) for always attacking in an alternating state. The purpose is to examine the discrepancies in the biomechanical characteristics of the DS and NS of the leg of the DRK skills of sub-elite taekwondo athletes. Methods: Using the Vicon, Kistler, and Daedo brand Electronic Body Protector (EBP), collection of the DRK data (attack time, joint angle, joint angular velocity, joint moment, ground reaction force, etc.) of 12 sub-elite taekwondo athletes (19.6 ± 2.0 yr, 180 ± 7.3 cm, 70 ± 9.8 kg) with the DS leg and NS leg. The measured data analyses via Visual3D, and statistical methods using nonparametric tests paired with samples based on the Wilcoxon signed-rank test (The significance level is set as significant for P<0.05, and very significant for P<0.01). Results: (i) There is no statistically significant discrepancy between the DS and NS at the time of hit (P>0.05) and shift of the center of gravity (P>0.05). (ii) Attacking leg (AL): the maximum knee flexion angle (Knee-MFA) (P<0.05) and the peak linear velocity of attack of the foot in the vertical hitting direction (P<0.01) on the DS was greater than that on the NS during the first hit phase (P1). (iii) Supporting leg (SL): the peak hip extension moment (P<0.05) on the DS was reported to be higher than that of the NS during the second hit phase (P2). (iv) Symmetry Index (SI): In the P1, the vertical ground reaction force (vGRF) of the SL leads to SI = 10.19 %, and in the P2, the vGRF of the SL results in SI = 18.48 %. Conclusions: The DRK requires more and more symmetry between the DS and NS. The Knee-MFA of the AL and the line of attack speed of the foot in the vertical striking direction of the SL exhibited significant discrepancies. The DS has higher striking speed, athletes need to improve the striking speed of the NS leg in training, achieving more scoring opportunities in the game. Both the DS and NS revealed strong symmetry in the peak SI of the ground reaction force of the SL stirrup; however, weak symmetry was attained in the peak SI of the vGRF of the SL landing cushion.

RESUMO

In order to obtain high-quality images, it is very important to remove noise effectively and retain image details reasonably. In this paper, we propose a residual UNet denoising network that adds the attention-guided filter and multi-scale feature extraction blocks. We design a multi-scale feature extraction block as the input block to expand the receiving domain and extract more useful features. We also develop the attention-guided filter block to hold the edge information. Further, we use the global residual network strategy to model residual noise instead of directly modeling clean images. Experimental results show our proposed network performs favorably against several state-of-the-art models. Our proposed model can not only suppress the noise more effectively, but also improve the sharpness of the image.

RESUMO

Objective: To explore the inherent relationship between lower limb biomechanical indicators and effective scoring values of double roundhouse kick (DRK) by taekwondo athletes, and to find key biomechanical factors that trigger effective scoring. Methods: Using the DAEDO Protector and Scoring System (PSS) in conjunction with the Vicon optical motion capture system and Kistler 3D force plate, kinematic and dynamic indicators of the front kicking motion were obtained from 12 professional taekwondo athletes (18.00 ± 2.20 years, 182.15 ± 8.62 cm and 70.00 ± 14.82 kg). The correlation between kinematics, dynamics, and scoring values was initially analyzed using bivariate linear correlation. Subsequently, based on the results of the linear correlation analysis, a stepwise regression analysis was performed to establish a stepwise regression equation. Results: The results reveal that during the First Hit, there is a significant positive correlation (r > 0, p < 0.05) between peak hip flexion angular velocity of the dominant leg, knee abduction angle, and peak foot horizontal plane linear velocity of the non-dominant leg with effective score. On the other hand, peak ankle flexion angular velocity of the non-dominant leg, peak foot sagittal plane linear velocity, peak hip abduction angle, and peak hip flexion angle of the dominant leg exhibit a significant negative correlation (r < 0, p < 0.05) with effective score. These correlations hold statistical significance (DW> 1.023). During the Second Hit, there is a significant positive correlation (r > 0, p < 0.05) between peak ankle internal rotation angular velocity of the dominant leg, foot coronal plane linear velocity, hip adduction angular velocity, and peak ankle internal rotation moment of the non-dominant leg with effective score. Conversely, peak hip flexion angle of the dominant leg shows a significant negative correlation (r < 0, p < 0.05) with effective score. All these variables have a statistically significant impact on effective score (DW > 1.023). Conclusion: Explosive power, body posture, adequate terminal velocity, and body rotation have an association with effective scoring of the electronic protector. The peak angular velocity of the ankle joint of the dominant leg and the peak linear velocity of the foot horizontal plane of the non-dominant leg significantly contribute to the effectiveness score of the electronic protector.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the second most common malignancy globally, after lung cancer, accounting for 85-90% of primary liver cancer. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is considered the leading risk factor for HCC development in China. HCC is a highly malignant cancer whose metastasis is primarily influenced by the tumor microenvironment. The role of exosomes in cancer development has become the focus of much research due to the many newly described contents of exosomes, which may contribute to tumorigenesis. However, the possible role exosomes play in the interactions between HCC cells and their surrounding hepatic milieu is mainly unknown. We discovered an Improved Aitongxiao Prescription (I-ATXP): an 80% alcohol extract from a mix of 15 specific plant and animal compounds, which had been shown to have an anticancer effect through inducing apoptosis and cell cycle arrest and blocking exosomes release in HCC cells. However, the anticancer mechanism of I-ATXP on human liver carcinoma is still unclear. OBJECTIVE: Due to its inhibitory effects on chemical carcinogenesis and inflammation, I-ATXP has been proposed as an effective agent for preventing or treating human liver carcinoma. In this study, we aimed to explore the effect of I-ATXP on proliferation, apoptosis, and cell cycles of different HCC cell lines. We investigated the impact of I-ATXP on exosomes' secretion derived from these HCC cells. METHODS: The inhibitory effect of I-ATXP on proliferation and cytotoxicity of HepG2, SMMC7721, HKCL-C3 HCC cell lines, and MIHA immortalized hepatocyte cell line was assessed by CCK-8 assay. The cell cycle distribution and cell apoptosis were determined by flow cytometry using Annexin V-FITC/PI staining. The expression of Alix and CD63 of exosome marker proteins was detected by western blotting. The exosome protein concentration was measured by a fluorescent plate reader. The exosome-specific enzyme activity was measured by acetylcholinesterase (AchE) assay, and exosome morphological characteristics were identified by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). RESULTS: I-ATXP inhibited the growth of HCC cells in a dose and time-dependent manner. Flow cytometry analysis showed that I-ATXP induced G0/G1 phase arrest and cell apoptosis. The I-ATX reduced HepG2, SMMC7721, and HKCI-C HCC cell lines exosomes release and low-dose I-ATXP significantly enhanced the growth inhibition induced by 5-Fu. Western blot analysis shows that after HCC cell lines were treated with various concentrations of I-ATXP (0.125-1 mg/ml) for 24 h, exosomes derived from three different HCC cells expressed exosome-specific proteins Alix and CD63. Compared with the untreated group, with the increment of the concentration of I-ATXP, the expression of exosome-specific proteins Alix and CD63 were reduced. These results suggest that I-ATXP can inhibit the release of exosomes with Alix and CD63 protein from HCC cells. CONCLUSIONS: I-ATXP is a traditional Chinese medicine that acts as an effective agent for preventing or treating human liver carcinoma. (i) I-ATXP can effectively inhibit cell proliferation of different HCC cells in a time and dose-dependent manner. Compared with 5-Fu, I-ATXP exhibited more selective proliferation inhibition in HCC cells, displaying traditional Chinese medicine advantages on tumor therapy and providing the experimental basis for I-ATXP clinical application. (ii) I-ATXP can induce apoptosis and cell cycle arrest in HCC cells. The CCK-8 assay results indicated that I-ATXP could inhibit HCC cell proliferation mediated by apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. (iii) I-ATXP can inhibit both the exosome releases and expression of CD63, and Alix derived from HCC cells, but the exosomes derived from liver cancer cells affect liver cancer cells' biological properties such as proliferation, invasion, and migration. These suggest that I-ATXP may affect HCC cells via regulation of exosomes of HCC cells, further indicating the potential clinical values of I-ATXP for the prevention or treatment of human liver carcinoma.

RESUMO

Autonomous Unmanned Aerial Manipulators (UAMs) have shown promising potential in mobile 3-dimensional grasping applications, but they still suffer from some difficulties impeding their board applications, such as target detection and indoor positioning. For the autonomous grasping mission, the UAMs need ability to recognize the objects and grasp them. Considering the efficiency and precision, we present a novel oriented-object detection method called Rotation-SqueezeDet. This method can run on embedded-platforms in near real-time. Besides, this method can give the oriented bounding box of an object in images to enable a rotation-aware grasping. Based on this method, a UAM platform was designed and built. We have given the formulation, positioning, control, and planning of the whole UAM system. All the mechanical designs are fully provided as open-source hardware for reuse by the community. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed scheme was validated in multiple experimental trials, highlighting its applicability of autonomous aerial rotational grasping in Global Positioning System (GPS) denied environments. We believe this system can be deployed to many potential workplaces which need UAM to accomplish difficult manipulation tasks.

RESUMO

We have fabricated gold (Au) elliptical nanodisc (ND) arrays via three-beam interference lithography and electron beam deposition of gold. The enhanced photoluminescence intensity and emission rate of quantum dots (QDs) near to the Au elliptical NDs have been studied by tuning the nearest distance between quantum dots and Au elliptical NDs. We found that the photoluminescence intensity is polarization-dependent with the degree of polarization being equal to that of the light extinction of the Au elliptical NDs, while the emission rate is polarization-independent. This is resulted from the plasmon-coupled emission via the coupling between the QD dipole and the plasmon nano-antenna. Our experiments fully confirm the evidence of the plasmophore concept proposed recently in the interaction of the QDs with metal nanoparticles.

RESUMO

The effects of luteolin on the proliferation of A549 cells were evaluated by MTT and clone formation assays. DNA ploidy and apoptotic cell percentage were calculated by flow cytometry. The expression of Bax, Bcl-xl, Bcl-2, Mcl-1, caspase-9, caspase-3, and PARP was analyzed by Western blotting. The membrane potential of mitochondria was detected by JC-1 fluorescence microscopy assay. Our results demonstrated that luteolin could inhibit the proliferation of A549 cells via induction of apoptosis, with the evidence of characteristic morphological changes of apoptosis in the nucleus. Furthermore, DNA flow cytometric analysis indicated that luteolin induced a S phase arrest of the cell cycle. The membrane potential of mitochondria was decreased. The protein levels of Bax, Bcl-xl, Bcl-2, Mcl-1, caspase-9, caspase-3, and PARP were activated after treatment with luteolin. Luteolin can inhibit the proliferation of A549 cells and trigger mitochondria- dependent apoptosis in them.

RESUMO

The ThCAP gene, which encodes a cold acclimation protein, was isolated from a Tamarix hispida NaCl-stress root cDNA library; its expression patterns were then assayed by qRT-PCR in different T. hispida tissues treated with low temperature (4 degrees C), salt (400 mM NaCl), drought (20% PEG6000) and exogenous abscisic acid (100 microM). Induction of ThCAP gene was not only responsive to different stress conditions but was also organ specific. When transgenic Populus (P. davidiana x P. bolleana) plants were generated, expressing ThCAP under regulation of the cauliflower mosaic virus CaMV 35S promoter, they had a greater resistance to low temperature than non-transgenic seedlings, suggesting that ThCAP might play an important role in cold tolerance.
