AIMS: This study explores the impact of gut microbiota on body metabolites and the growth rate of sea cucumber seedlings. METHODS AND RESULTS: A comprehensive analysis using metabolomics and microbiomics was conducted to ascertain the gut microbiota and body metabolites in sea cucumber seedlings exhibiting varying growth rates. Distinct changes in the intestinal flora were observed in correlation with different growth rates of sea cucumber seedlings. The microbial communities of faster-growing seedlings exhibited greater diversity and evenness of taxa. For example, the abundance of genera Rhodococcus, Woeseia, Lysobacter, Desulfuromonadia_Sva1033, and Flavobacteriaceae_NS5_marine_group was more than 24 times higher in the fast-growing group compared to the slow-growing group. Metabolomics analysis revealed an association between high growth rates of cucumber seedlings and discrepancies in metabolites, such as amino acids, lipids, and carbohydrates. Isorenieratene, possibly synthesized by Rhodococcus, was more than 2.5 times more abundant in the fast-growing group than the slow-growing group. Slow-growing seedlings showed considerable enrichment of environmental pollutants, such as antibiotics and drugs, while their colonies were devoid of bacteria capable of degrading such pollutants. In addition, significant differences were observed between groups in the biosynthesis of amino acids, metabolism of arginine and proline, biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids, and metabolism of linoleic acid. Moreover, significant correlations between the microbial genera and sea cucumber metabolites were identified through correlation analysis. CONCLUSIONS: Significant differences exist in the gut microbiota and metabolite composition among seedlings with varying growth rates. Microbes residing in the gut have the potential to influence the growth of seedlings through modulation of their metabolism.

BACKGROUND: Osteosynthesis for geriatric femoral pertrochanteric fractures using the linear compression integrated screw intramedullary nail system (INTERTAN™) has become popular. Nonetheless, cases of perioperative peri-implant fractures have been reported following this surgical technique. The factors responsible for this complication remain unclear. Therefore, we investigated perioperative peri-implant fracture risk factors and incidence, as well as overall outcomes, using the INTERTAN™ system for geriatric femoral pertrochanteric fractures. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 98 consecutive patients with geriatric femoral pertrochanteric fractures after INTERTAN™ fixation, with at least a 12-month follow-up period between May 2020 and April 2022 at a single medical institute. The patients' demographic characteristics, fracture pattern, quality of reduction, quality of fixation, nail length, morphology of the femur, and perioperative complications were recorded and analyzed. RESULTS: Among the 98 patients, 92 achieved union during follow-up. Twelve perioperative peri-implant fractures (12.2%) were recorded, all of which occurred during or within 1 month of osteosynthesis. Except for one patient who underwent re-osteosynthesis, the others underwent nonoperative treatment, and all achieved union. Multiple regression analysis revealed morphology of the femur with low-lesser trochanter width (odds ratio (OR) 0.532, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.33-0.86, p = 0.01) to be the only factor contributing to perioperative peri-implant fractures. When the Youden index was used, the optimal cut-off value was 20.2 mm of low-lesser trochanter width. Low-lesser trochanter width < 20.2 mm was found to be a potential factor causing perioperative peri-implant fractures (OR 17.81, 95% CI 1.67-19.76, p = 0.017). CONCLUSIONS: Morphology of the femur with a low-lesser trochanter width smaller than 20.2 mm was found to be the only potential contributor to perioperative peri-implant fractures when using INTERTAN™ for geriatric femoral pertrochanteric fractures. Care should be taken during osteosynthesis, focusing not only on the fracture site but also on the femoral cortex around the implant. Although perioperative peri-implant fractures were observed within one month following osteosynthesis, the majority of these cases were effectively treated without surgical intervention.

RESUMO

Rotationplasty, a limb-saving procedure involving a 180-degree ankle rotation to function as a knee joint, is now standard for treating distal femur osteosarcoma. However, challenges related to self-identification persist within the Asian population. This study presents a case involving the successful application of temporary ectopic implantation followed by staged rotationplasty after a severe traumatic amputation, resulting in a favorable outcome. Additionally, a systematic review is conducted to summarize the various difficulties and complications encountered in different studies. This approach improves the feasibility of rotationplasty in traumatic cases and enhances patient and family comprehension.

INTRODUCTION: Varus collapse followed by osteosynthesis for distal femoral fractures with conventional implants has been well documented but is seldom mentioned in fractures managed with locking plates. The purpose of this study was to assess the incidence of varus collapse after treating complex supra-intercondylar fractures of the distal femur (AO type C3) using a Single Plate (SP) or Double Plate (DP) fixation technique. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 357 patients with distal femoral fractures who were treated at our hospital between 2006 and 2017. After excluding cases of infection, malignancy, periprosthetic fracture, revision surgery, pediatric fracture, and extra-articular fracture, 54 patients were included in the study. All demographic data and radiological and clinical outcomes were reviewed and analyzed. RESULTS: There were 54 patients enrolled into this study with age from 15 to 85 years old (mean 41.6, SD = 19.9), and 32 of them were open fractures (59%). The patients were further divided into either an SP (n = 15) or a DP group (n = 39). Demographics, including age, sex, injury severity score, and open fracture type, were all compatible between the two groups. The overall nonunion rate was 25.9% (n = 14; 6 from the SP and 8 from the DP group; p = 0.175). The varus collapse rate was 9.3% (n = 5; 4 from the SP and 1 from the DP group (p = 0.018). CONCLUSIONS: The varus collapse rate after osteosynthesis with a single lateral locking plate could be as high as 26.7% in AO type C3 fractures of the distal femur, which would be decreased to 2.6% by adding a medial buttress plate. Surgeons should consider DP fixation to avoid varus collapse in severely comminuted complete intra-articular fractures of the distal femur.

PURPOSE: Open pelvic fractures have high mortality rates, and survivors may have ongoing functional deficits from severe trauma and invasive life-saving procedures. However, there are limited reports regarding the functional status evaluation following open pelvic fractures. We aimed to report the treatment experiences and short-term functional outcomes of patients with open pelvic fractures. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the data of 19 consecutive patients with pelvic fractures who underwent treatment at a single institute between January 2014 and June 2018. The resuscitation protocol, osteosynthesis strategy, reduction quality of the pelvic ring, and functional outcomes were analyzed. RESULTS: The incidence and mortality rates in patients with open pelvic fractures were 4.9 and 21.6%, respectively. Ten, one, and seven of the open wounds related to the pelvic fractures were located in Faringer zones I, II, and III, respectively. Fractures of four patients were categorized as classes 1 and 2, and those of 11 patients as class 3, according to the Jones-Powell classification. Eleven of 19 (57.9%) and 9 of 19 (47.5%) revealed excellent reduction quality by Matta/Torenetta and Lefaivre criteria, respectively. The Merle d'Aubigné score improved at each evaluation but stagnated after 24 months. The Majeed hip score also improved at the 12-month evaluation but the improvement stopped thereafter. At a 3-year follow-up, the patients with excellent reduction of the pelvic ring showed the highest functional performances. CONCLUSION: Improvements in functional status of patients with open pelvic fractures can be anticipated based on the reduction quality of the pelvis ring.

PURPOSE: The pararectus approach is used to treat acetabular fractures; however, it remains unclear whether it can be used to treat pelvic fractures. This study aimed to examine the outcomes of patients with a pelvic ring fracture treated with this approach. METHODS: Seven patients with AO B2.2 pelvic fractures treated with the pararectus approach were included. Patients' pain was assessed pre- and postoperatively with a numerical rating scale. Radiological evaluations included inlet and outlet ratios and pelvic symmetry. Functional outcomes, including Merle d'Aubigné and Majeed scores, were also recorded for 12 months. RESULTS: One patient experienced obturator nerve neuropraxia. Pain scores ranged from 2.3-8.0 to 2.0-3.1 points before and after surgery, respectively. Radiological findings revealed satisfactory outcomes. The maximal gap of the affected ilium reduced from 8.6-20.2 to 0-3.4 mm, from 6.8-17.9 to 0-4.4 mm, and from 3.7-20.3 to 0-3.2 mm in the axial, sagittal, and coronal views, respectively. Based on multiple evaluations, functional outcomes were improved for all patients. CONCLUSION: The pararectus approach can be used safely and satisfactorily to treat AO B 2.2 pelvic fractures.

BACKGROUND: Reasons for the increased use of closed reduction and internal fixation (CRIF) for traumatic sacral fractures (SFs) are unclear in the literature. Therefore, we aimed to report the annual changes in the number of patients, mechanisms of injury, fracture patterns, and fixation methods. METHODS: In this retrospective study, we extracted data of 271 patients (mean age, 37.5 years) from the trauma register over an 8-year period. Annual records regarding the number of patients, injury mechanisms, fracture types, and treatment options were statistically analyzed to examine the interactions among these factors. RESULTS: The number of patients with SFs increased significantly each year. The rate of admission to the intensive care unit after resuscitation was high (64.9%). Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Osteosynthesefragen (AO) type C pelvic ring injury (PRI), Dennis zone II injury, Roy-Camille type 2 injury, and U/H-type injury were the most common fracture types. Trans-iliac trans-sacral screws were mainly used in AO type B PRI, and their use significantly increased each year. For AO type C PRI, open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) with rigid fixation was the main treatment, and the use of CRIF with iliosacral screws decreased each year. Stepwise statistical analysis revealed that the increase in AO type B PRI and ORIF for anterior PRI were the factors contributing to the increased use of CRIF for SFs. CONCLUSIONS: While the use of osteosynthesis for SFs is increasing, an increased use of CRIF for traumatic SFs has also been observed in clinical practice. This increase can be attributed to the increase in AO type B PRIs and ORIF for anterior PRIs.

PURPOSE: Osteosynthesis for acetabular fractures with ipsilateral sacroiliac joint (SIJ) injuries remains challenging for orthopedic surgeons, despite the evolution of surgical approaches, such as the pararectus approach, and treatment sequences. The study aimed to describe the details of the treatment of acetabular fracture with ipsilateral SIJ injury by the pararectus approach and to report its surgical outcomes. METHODS: We retrospectively assessed patients with acetabular fractures and ipsilateral SIJ injuries undergoing osteosynthesis by the pararectus approach over a three-year period. Evaluation parameters of the quality of reduction of both acetabulum and pelvis injuries were, among others, Matta's criteria, Lefaivre's criteria, inlet/outlet ratios, and maximal gap measured on computed tomography (CT) scans. RESULTS: Ten patients (seven men and three women) were enrolled. Pelvic ring injuries classified as AO B2.3 and acetabular fractures involving two columns were the most common fractures, accounting for 70% and 60%, respectively. Radiological evaluation for pelvic ring injury revealed three excellent and seven good results according to Matta's criteria, as well as five excellent, three good, and one fair results according to Lefaivre's criteria. Inlet and outlet ratios were between 0.84-1.06 and 0.93-1.60, respectively. The distance of the sacroiliac joints significantly improved postoperatively in both axial and coronal views (P = 0.002). Further, the maximal articular gap and step-off of acetabular fractures on axial, coronal, and sagittal view CT scans showed statistically significant improvements after osteosynthesis. CONCLUSION: Simultaneous reduction and fixation of acetabular fractures with ipsilateral SIJ injuries using the pararectus approach achieved satisfactory radiological outcomes. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: IV. Carbon nanotube/continuous carbon fiber-reinforced poly(etherketoneketone) (CNT/CCF/PEKK) prepreg tapes were prepared by the wet powder impregnation method, and then the prepreg tapes were molded into laminates. The effects of carbon nanotubes on the mechanical properties, conductivity, thermal conductivity and crystallinity of the composites were studied by universal testing machine, thermal conductivity and resistivity tester, dynamic mechanical analyzer (DMA) and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The results show that when the content of carbon nanotubes is 0.5 wt% (relative to the mass of PEKK resin, the same below), the flexural strength and interlaminar shear strength of the laminates reach the maximum, which are increased by 15.99% and 18.16%, respectively, compared with the laminates without carbon nanotubes. The results of conductivity and thermal conductivity show that the higher the content of carbon nanotubes, the better the conductivity and thermal conductivity of the material. DSC results show that the addition of CNT promoted the crystallization of PEKK in the material and decreased the cold crystallization of PEKK. DMA results show that the deformation resistance of the material can be improved by adding an appropriate amount of CNT and the bonding between CF and PEKK can be enhanced, while excessive CNT destroys this phenomenon.

A Gram-stain negative, aerobic, rod-shaped bacterium, designated 126T, was isolated from the intestinal content of a sea cucumber, Apostichopus japonicus, in China. Strain 126T was found to grow optimally at 25-28 °C and pH 7.5-8.0 in marine 2216 E medium, with tolerance of 1-7% (w/v) NaCl. Strain 126T is motile by means of one to several polar flagella. The dominant fatty acids of strain 126T were identified as C16:1 ω7c/C16:1 ω6c (29.5%), C18:1 ω7c/C18:1 ω6c (19.8%) and C16:0 (16.7%). The respiratory quinone was found to be Q-8. The polar lipid profile was found to be mainly composed of phosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylethanolamine. The total length of the draft genome is approximately 4.2 × 106 bp, encoding 3655 genes and 3576 coding sequences. The G + C content of the genomic DNA is 48.0%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain 126T belongs to the genus Neiella and is closely related to Neiella marina J221T (96.5%). Genomic comparisons of 126T to N. marina J221T revealed that they had similar genome size, G + C content and complement of clusters of orthologous groups. However, average nucleotide identity and digital DNA-DNA hybridization values between strains126T and N. marina J221T was 75.5% and 19.7%, which could distinguish the strains. On the basis of these phenotypic and genotypic data, strain 126T is concluded to represent a novel species, for which the name Neiella holothuriorum sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 126T (= GDMCC 1.2530T = KCTC 82829T).

In this study, we obtained fucoidans SFP, SHP, STP, and FVP from Sargassum fusiforme, Sargassum horneri, Sargassumthunbergii, and Fucus vesiculosus, respectively. Chitosan/fucoidan nanoparticles (Cs/F NPs) were prepared using the fucoidans mentioned above. SFP NPs and SHP NPs showed strong binding abilities to P-selectin and epithelial growth factor receptor (EGFR). Given the yields from the alga, SFP was first selected to explore the structural characteristics of the P-selectin and EGFR dual-targeting fucoidan. SFP had an estimated molecular weight of 739 kDa and was mainly composed of galactose (26.57%, mol%) and fucose (66.81%), with minor amounts of mannose (2.54%), glucosamine (0.42%), and glucose (3.66%). Galactose and fucose accounted for thevast majority. Further investigation, including methylation analysis, one- and two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance, and mass spectroscopy, was performed to reveal the fine structure of SFP. The results indicated that SFP mainly consisted of â†’ 3)-α-l-Fucp-(1→, →4)-α-l-Fucp-(1→, →3,4)-α-l-Fucp-(1→, →3)-ß-d-Galp-(1→, and minor â†’ 6)-ß-d-Galp-(1→, partially sulfated at the C-4 of â†’ 3)-α-l-Fucp-(1→, C-3 of â†’ 4)-α-l-Fucp-(1→, C-3 of â†’ 6)-ß-d-Galp-(1→, and C-6 of â†’ 3)-ß-d-Galp-(1 â†’ . Sulfated fuco- and galactofuco-segments formed the branches.

The soluble dietary fiber from Asparagus officinalis (ASDF) was successively prepared using enzymolysis combined with spray-drying technology. High-performance liquid chromatography analysis showed that ASDF contained two polysaccharide fractions with the average molecular weight of 2.77 × 105 and 6.44 × 103 Da, and was composed of mannose, rhamnose, galacturonic acid, glucose, galactose, and arabinose with a molecular ratio of 19.93:1.02:1.94:32.17:1.00:1.91, respectively. ASDF showed potential in vitro antioxidant activities. The oral administration of ASDF significantly reduced the levels of total cholesterol, triglyceride, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in HD-induced mice serum. Furthermore, 16S rRNA gene sequencing analysis showed that ASDF significantly affected the composition of intestinal microbiota, especially reducing the Firmicutes/Bacteroidotetes ratio and the relative abundances of Desulfobacterota, Proteobacteria, Actinobacteriota and increasing that of Muribaculaceae, Bacteroides, and Alloprevotella. These results demonstrated that the intake of ASDF could regulate intestinal microbiota and serum lipid levels in hyperlipidemic conditions.

Chito-oligosaccharides (COSs) were encapsulated by the film-ultrasonic method into three nano-liposomes, which were uncoated liposomes (COSs-Lip), chitosan-coated liposomes (CH-COSs-Lip), and sodium alginate (SA)/chitosan (CH)-coated liposomes (SA/CH-COSs-Lip). The physicochemical and structural properties, as well as the stability and digestive characteristics, of all three nano-liposomes were assessed in the current study. Thereafter, the characteristics of intestinal absorption and transport of nano-liposomes were investigated by the Caco-2 cell monolayer. All nano-liposomes showed a smaller-sized distribution with a higher encapsulation efficiency. The ζ-potential, Z-average diameter (Dz), and polydispersity index (PDI) demonstrated that the stability of the SA/CH-COSs-Lip had much better stability than COSs-Lip and CH-COSs-Lip. In addition, the transport of the nano-liposomes via the Caco-2 cell monolayer indicated a higher transmembrane transport capacity. In summary, the chitosan and sodium alginate could serve as potential delivery systems for COSs to fortify functional foods and medicines.

BACKGROUND: Although the incidence, types, and radiological outcomes of simultaneous ipsilateral pelvic ring and acetabular fractures have been reported, there have been no reports on factors that may affect the quality of acetabular fracture reduction. Here, we evaluate the radiological outcomes of patients treated for simultaneous ipsilateral pelvic and acetabular fractures and analyze the factors that affect the quality of acetabular fracture reduction. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective review of patients treated for simultaneous ipsilateral pelvic ring and acetabular fractures between 2016 and 2020. Factors that may predict inadequate reduction of the acetabular fracture were analyzed. RESULTS: Data from 27 hips of 26 patients were collected. AO B2.2 and anterior columnar fractures were the most common types of pelvic ring and acetabular fractures, respectively. Univariate analysis revealed that Matta's criteria for pelvic ring fracture may be useful for predicting fair to poor quality of acetabular fracture reduction on X-rays. Furthermore, associated fractures identified by Letournel's classification system on computed tomography may be predictive of greater step-offs. CONCLUSIONS: Associated fractures identified via Letournel's classification may contribute to inadequate reduction of acetabular fractures. Matta's criteria for pelvic ring fractures may also be useful for predicting the risk of inadequate reduction of the acetabulum on X-ray scans. These findings may be assessed intraoperatively by fluoroscopy before beginning osteosynthesis for acetabular fractures.

A fucoidan SFP, having novel structure, was extracted from Sargassum fusiforme. It had a molecular weight of 703 kDa and was composed of fucose and galactose with the ratio of 73.16:26.84 (mol%). Structural analyses showed that it mainly consisted of 1,3-, 1,4-, 1,3,4-linked-α-l-Fucp and 1,3-, 1,6-linked-ß-d-Galp, with partial sulfation at C-4, C-3 of fucose units and C-6, C-3 of galactose units. The branches consisted of sulfated fucosyl and galactofucosyl oligosaccharides. The regulatory effects of SFP on the intestinal microbiota in high-fat diet-fed mice were investigated. The high-dosage SFP exhibited good hypolipidemic effects, especially in regulating the high-densitylipoproteincholesterol, non-esterified fatty acid levels and lipase activity. It also significantly decreased the ratio of phyla Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes (P < 0.05). Besides, SFP had certain effects on the richness and diversity of intestinal microbiota. Therefore, SFP exhibited novel structure and certain beneficial effects on the disorder of intestinal microbiota in high-fat diet-fed mice.

Hot water pretreatment of sea cucumbers potentially changes nutritional benefits. This study aimed to quantify hot water pretreatment-induced changes in metabolite profiles of sea cucumber body walls. ICP-OES, GC-MS, and LC-MS analyses of untreated- (UT-BW), hot water-treated body walls (HW-BW) of Apostichopus japonicus, and the hot water extract (HW-E) determined significant losses of minerals (25-50% w/w), protein (~11% w/w), carbohydrate (33% w/w), saponins (~41% w/w), and spermidine (100%), a potential antipsychotic from hot water-treated samples. Multivariate comparisons of HW-BW with UT-BW and HW-BW with HW-E showed increases in amino acids and fatty acids, suggesting hot water-induced degradation or transformation or easier extraction of protein, lipid or other components. Presence of 80 to 88.5% of compounds in the HW-E and lower DHA, EPA and glycerophospholipids levels in HW-BW suggested extraction of these metabolites. These data indicate that novel processing technologies are required to preserve the full nutritional benefits of sea cucumbers.

Increasing attention has recently been focused on complex symbiotic associations, for instance coral and its symbionts. Sea cucumber, harboring diverse fungi, has also attracted more and more attention for their functional diversity. Here, secondary metabolites produced by Chaetomium globosum associated with sea cucumber, Apostichopus japonicus, were investigated using gene mining with third-generation sequencing technology (PacBio SMRT). Nine compounds, including one new compound cytoglobosin X (1), were isolated from cultures of Chaetomium globosum. Compound 1 was identified based on NMR data, HRESIMS, and ECD, and the absolute configurations were identified as 3S, 4R, 7S, 8R, 9R, 16S, 19S, 20S, and 23S. In an antimicrobial assay, compound 4 showed moderate activity against Staphylococcus aureus and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus with MICs of 47.3 and 94.6 µM, respectively. Our results suggest that the microbiomes associated with sea cucumber could be an important resource for biodiversity and structural novelty, and the bioactive compounds may protect the host from pathogen microbial.

The rapid increase of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections and the cross-resistance of MRSA to other antibiotics create an urgent demand for new therapeutic agents. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are one of the most promising options for next-generation antibiotics. In this study, novel peptides were designed based on antimicrobial peptide fragments derived from Aristicluthys nobilia interferon-I to promote anti-MRSA activity and decrease adverse effects. Design strategies included substitutions of charged or hydrophobic amino acid residues for noncharged polar residues to promote amphipathicity. Two designed peptides, P5 (YIRKIRRFFKKLKKILKK-NH2) and P9 (SYERKINRHFKTLKKNLKKK-NH2), showed potent antimicrobial activities against both sensitive Staphylococcus aureus clinical isolates and MRSA strains without significant hemolysis or cytotoxicity to human hemocytes and renal epithelial cells. Scanning Electronic Microscopy (SEM) and qRT-PCR were employed to investigate the effects of P5 and P9 on S. aureus biofilm formation, morphology, and virulence-related gene expression. P5 and P9 significantly inhibited the biofilm and destroyed the cell membrane integrity, in addition to down-regulating several virulence factor genes and biofilm formation-related genes including spa, hld, and sdrC. P5 and P9 could be promising candidate antibacterial agents for the treatment of MRSA infections.

The hamstring autograft is one of the most popular grafts for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Although many techniques for arthroscopic ACL reconstruction using hamstring autografts have been invented, hamstring harvest techniques have not been focused. Hamstrings are harvested using an open technique that requires a 2- to 5-cm skin incision. In this Technical Note, we describe an endoscopic harvest technique of autogenous gracilis and semitendinosus tendon. This technique needs only a 1- to 1.5-cm skin incision and provides surgeons a sufficient view to safely harvest the hamstrings.

Iron is a limiting factor that controls the phytoplankton biomass in the modern ocean, and iron fertilization of the ocean could lead to blooms dominated by diatoms. Thus, iron plays an important role in controlling the distribution of diatoms. In this study, we measured the growth rate and photosynthetic activity of the model diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum cultured under different iron concentrations and found that it grew more rapidly and had a much higher photosynthetic efficiency under higher iron concentrations. In order to explore the unique mechanism of the response of diatoms to iron, a proteomic analysis was carried out, and the results indicated that iron promotes the Calvin cycle of P. tricornutum. Diatoms can tolerate the pressure of iron limitation by replacing iron-rich proteins with flavodoxin, and so on. Moreover, we found that the photosystem I (PSI) activity of iron-limited algae that were treated by N',N',N',N'-tetramethyl-p-phenylenediamine (TMPD) was increased significantly. As TMPD plays the role of a cytochrome b6 /f complex that transfers electrons from photosystem II to PSI, the cytochrome b6 /f complex is the key to photosynthesis regulation. Iron could influence the growth of P. tricornutum by regulating its biosynthesis. All of the results suggest that iron might affect the growth of diatoms through the Calvin cycle and the cytochrome b6 /f complex.
