Objective: To explore the efficacy of radial shock wave therapy (RSWT) for lateral epicondylitis (LE). Methods: A total of 54 cases suffering from LE from Department of Pain Medicine of Fujian Provincial Hospital between December 2017 to October 2019 were randomly assigned to experimental group (n=27) and control group (n=27). Subjects in the experimental group were applied with RSWT in the lateral elbow area plus scapular back area, while patients in control group were applied with RSWT only in the lateral elbow area. Patients in both groups underwent RSWT one session per week for four weeks. Numeric rating scale (NRS), pain-free grip (PFG) test and patient-rated tennis elbow evaluation (PRTEE) in both groups were evaluated and compared at the pre-treatment, one week, one month and three months after treatment. Results: The NRS scores at pre-treatment, one week, one month and three months after treatment in experimental group were 6.5±1.6, 4.0±1.1, 3.9±1.5, 1.7±1.1, respectively, while those in control group were 6.2±1.4, 3.8±1.3, 4.2±1.2, 2.6±1.2, respectively. Compared with those at pre-treatment, the NRS scores in both groups were significantly decreased at one week, one month and three months after treatment (all P<0.05). The PRTEE and PFG results showed significant improvement after treatment (all P<0.05). The NRS scores and PRTEE at three months after treatment in the experimental group were 18±11, 1.7±1.1, respectively, which were significantly lower than those in the control group (25±11, 2.6±1.2, respectively) (both P<0.05). Conclusions: RSWT exerts a beneficial effect on LE. Guided by the soft tissue surgery theory, RSWT in the lateral elbow area plus scapular back area produces better pain reduction and functional improvement compared with RSWT only in the lateral elbow area.

To investigate the surgical effect of hip arthroscopic labrum reconstruction. A retrospective study was performed on the clinical data of 12 patients who underwent hip arthroscopic labrum reconstruction in our department from September 2017 to February 2021 and were followed up for 5-46 months, with an average of 21.5 months. All the patients had a hip joint space of more than 2 mm, and Tonnis grade less than level â ¡. These 12 patients underwent arthroscopic debridement of hyperplastic synovium, femoral head and neck and/or acetabular osteoplasty, and labrum reconstruction using autograft iliotibial band or gracilis tendon. After the surgery, we conducted follow-up and data collection, recorded the satisfaction of the patients and occurrence of complications, as well as the cartilage lesion of hip joint observed under the arthroscopy. We compared the alpha angle of Dunn X-ray film, center-edge angle (CE angle) of AP X-ray film, modified Harris hip score (mHHS score), hip outcome score (HOS), international hip outcome tool 12 score (iHOT12 Score), and visual analogue scale (VAS scale) before and after the arthroscopic operation, to assess clinical symptom relief and joint function recovery. The 12 patients were followed up for 5-46 (21.5±12.8) months. The VAS scale were (5.3±2.5) and (2.5±1.4) before and after the surgery, showing significant decrease (P=0.018). The mHHS score were (60.6±22.2) and (83.1±5.8) before and after the surgery, showing significant increase (P=0.003). The patient satisfaction was high (7.8±2.0) (range: 0-10). None of the 12 patients had serious complications, revision surgery, or total hip replacement at the end of the last follow-up. Autologous tendon transplantation for reconstruction of acetabular labrum under arthroscopy can improve the clinical symptoms and joint function of patients with femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), which is a safe and effective treatment.

The aim of this study was to use electrical impedance tomography (EIT) to detect and image acute intracranial haemorrhage (ICH) in an animal model. Blood was infused into the frontal lobe of the brains of anaesthetized piglets and impedance was measured using 16 electrodes placed in a circle on the scalp. The EIT images were constructed using a filtered back-projection algorithm. The mean of all the pixel intensities within a region of interest--the mean resistivity value (MRV)--was used to evaluate the relative impedance changes in the target region. A symmetrical index (SI), reflecting the relative impedance on both sides of the brain, was also calculated. Changes in MRV and SI were associated with the injection of blood, demonstrating that EIT can successfully detect ICH in this animal model. The unique features of EIT may be beneficial for diagnosing ICH early in patients after cranial surgery, thereby reducing the risk of complications and mortality.
