RESUMO

Regulatory T cells (Tregs) constitute a specialized subset of T cells with dual immunoregulatory and modulatory functions. Recent studies have reported that Tregs mediate immune responses and regulate the development and repair processes in non-lymphoid tissues, including bone and cardiac muscle. Additionally, Tregs facilitate the repair and regeneration of damaged lung tissues. However, limited studies have examined the role of Tregs in pulmonary development. This study aimed to evaluate the role of Tregs in pulmonary development by investigating the dynamic alterations in Tregs and their hallmark cellular factor Forkhead box P3 (Foxp3) at various stages of murine lung development and establishing a murine model of anti-CD25 antibody-induced Treg depletion. During the early stages of murine lung development, especially the canalicular and saccular stages, the levels of Treg abundance and expression of Foxp3 and transforming growth factor-ß (TGF-ß) were upregulated. This coincided with the proliferation period of alveolar epithelial cells and vascular endothelial cells, indicating an adaptation to the dynamic lung developmental processes. Furthermore, the depletion of Tregs disrupted lung tissue morphology and downregulated lung development-related factors, such as surfactant protein C (SFTPC), vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA) and platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 (PECAM1/CD31). These findings suggest that Tregs promote murine lung development.

RESUMO

The deposition and intercalation of metal atoms can induce superconductivity in monolayer and bilayer graphenes. For example, it has been experimentally proved that Li-deposited graphene is a superconductor with critical temperature Tc of 5.9 K, Ca-intercalated bilayer graphene C6CaC6 and K-intercalated epitaxial bilayer graphene C8KC8 are superconductors with Tc of 2-4 K and 3.6 K, respectively. However, the Tc of them are relatively low. To obtain higher Tc in graphene-based superconductors, here we predict a new Ca-intercalated bilayer graphene C2CaC2, which shows higher Ca concentration than the C6CaC6. It is proved to be thermodynamically and dynamically stable. The electronic structure, electron-phonon coupling (EPC) and superconductivity of C2CaC2 are investigated based on first-principles calculations. The EPC of C2CaC2 mainly comes from the coupling between the electrons of C-pz orbital and the high- and low-frequency vibration modes of C atoms. The calculated EPC constant λ of C2CaC2 is 0.75, and the superconducting Tc is 18.9 K, which is much higher than other metal-intercalated bilayer graphenes. By further applying -4% biaxial compressive strain to C2CaC2, the Tc can be boosted to 26.6 K. Thus, the predicted C2CaC2 provides a new platform for realizing superconductivity with the highest Tc in bilayer graphenes.

RESUMO

Due to the rapid increase in the number of spent lithium-ion batteries, there has been a growing interest in the recovery of degraded graphite. In this work, a rapid thermal shock (RTS) strategy is proposed to regenerate spent graphite for use in lithium-ion batteries. The results of structural and morphological characterization demonstrate that the graphite is well regenerated by the RTS process. Additionally, an amorphous carbon layer forms and coats onto the surface of the graphite, contributing to excellent rate performance. The regenerated graphite (RG-1000) displays excellent rate performance, with capacities of 413 mAh g-1 at 50 mA g-1 and 102.1 mAh g-1 at 1000 mA g-1, respectively. Furthermore, it demonstrates long-term cycle stability, maintaining a capacity of 80 mAh g-1 at 1000 mA g-1 with a capacity retention of 78.4 % after 600 cycles. This RTS method enables rapid and efficient regeneration of spent graphite anodes for lithium-ion batteries, providing a facile and environmentally friendly strategy for their direct regeneration.

RESUMO

High-purity 1T'-WS2 film has been experimentally synthesized [Nature Materials, 20, 1113-1120 (2021)] and theoretically predicted to be a two-dimensional (2D) superconducting material with Dirac cones [arXiv:2301.11425]. In the present work, we further study the superconducting properties of monolayer 1T'-WS2 by applying biaxial tensile strain. It is shown that the superconducting critical temperature Tc firstly increases and then decreases with respect to tensile strains, with the highest superconducting critical temperature Tc of 7.25 K under the biaxial tensile strain of 3%. In particular, we find that Dirac cones also exist in several tensile strained cases. Our studies show that monolayer 1T'-WS2 may provide a good platform for understanding the superconductivity of 2D Dirac materials.

RESUMO

The discovery of highly crystalline two-dimensional (2D) superconductors provides a new alluring branch for exploring the fundamental significances. Based on first-principles calculations, we predict a new kind of 2D stable material W2C3, which is a semimetal but not a superconductor because of the weak electron-phonon coupling (EPC) strength. After hydrogenation, W2C3H2 possesses the intrinsic metallic properties with a large density of states (DOS) at the Fermi energy (EF). More interestingly, the EPC strength is greatly enhanced after hydrogenation and the calculated critical temperature (Tc) is 40.5 K. Furthermore, the compressive strain can obviously soften the low-frequency phonons and enhance the EPC strength. Then, the Tc of W2C3H2 can be increased from 40.5 K to 49.1 K with -4% compressive strain. This work paves the way for providing a new platform for 2D superconductivity.

RESUMO

Bronchopulmonary dysplasia, a common complication of premature infants, is mainly characterized by blocked alveolarization. Proverbially, the injury of alveolar type II epithelial cells is regarded as the pathologic basis of occurrence and development of bronchopulmonary dysplasia. In the case of alveolar epithelial damage, alveolar type II epithelial cells can also differentiate to alveolar type I epithelial cells as progenitor cells. During bronchopulmonary dysplasia, the differentiation of alveolar type II epithelial cells becomes abnormal. Group 2 innate lymphoid cells can produce type 2 cytokines in response to a variety of stimuli, including the epithelial cytokines IL-25, IL-33, and thymic stromal lymphopoietin. Previous studies have shown that group 2 innate lymphoid cells can inhibit the alveolarization process of bronchopulmonary dysplasia by secreting IL-13. However, whether group 2 innate lymphoid cells can affect the differentiation of alveolar type II epithelial cells in the pathologic process of bronchopulmonary dysplasia remains unclear. In this study, we have shown that IL-13 secreted by group 2 innate lymphoid cells increased during bronchopulmonary dysplasia, which was related to the release of large amounts of IL-33 by impaired alveolar type II epithelial cells. This led to abnormal differentiation of alveolar type II epithelial cells, reduced differentiation to alveolar type I epithelial cells, and increased transdifferentiation to mesenchymal cells through the epithelial-mesenchymal transition. Taken together, our study provides a complementary understanding of the development of bronchopulmonary dysplasia and highlights a novel immune mechanism in the pathogenesis of bronchopulmonary dysplasia.

RESUMO

Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is a common complication in preterm infants characterized by alveolar growth arrest. Interleukin (IL)-33 and type 2 innate lymphoid cell (ILC2) affect type II alveolar epithelial cell (AECII) differentiation in BPD mice and may cause increased lung epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Amphiregulin (AREG) can be produced by ILC2 and is associated with tissue repair. However, the action mechanism of AREG produced by ILC2 to alveolar development in BPD is unclear. In this study, we aimed to demonstrate the role and mechanism of AREG in influencing AECII transdifferentiation in the lung tissue of BPD mice. The effects of ILC2-derived AREG on AECII transdifferentiation were verified in vivo and in vitro, and the role of IL-33 on ILC2-derived AREG in AECII transdifferentiation in BPD mice and a preliminary investigation of the role of AREG's receptor-epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) on AECII transdifferentiation. The results showed that neonatal mice developed severe lung injury after hyperoxia, and IL-33 induced AREG production via ILC2 affected normal AECII differentiation and promoted EMT. In addition, the blockade of EGFR was found to alleviate the impaired AECII differentiation under hyperoxia in an in vitro study. In summary, our study demonstrates that AREG secreted by ILC2 affects AECII transdifferentiation in BPD mice, which provides a new idea for the clinical treatment of BPD.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To systematically review the prevalence and risk factors for frailty in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted, and a search of the PubMed, Embase and Web of Science databases was carried out to collect Chinese and English studies on frailty and COPD published up to September 5, 2022. RESULTS: A total of 38 articles were included for the quantitative analysis after the collected literature was either included or omitted based on pertinent criteria. The results indicated that the estimated overall pooled prevalence of frailty was 36% (95% confidence interval [CI] = 31-41%), and the estimated pre-frailty was 43% (95% CI = 37-49%). A higher age (odds ratio [OR] = 1.04; 95% CI = 1.01-1.06) and higher COPD assessment test (CAT) score (OR = 1.19; 95% CI = 1.12-1.27) were associated with a significantly increased likelihood of frailty in patients with COPD. However, a higher educational attainment (OR = 0.55; 95% CI = 0.43-0.69) and higher income (OR = 0.63; 95% CI = 0.45-0.88) were associated with a significantly reduced risk of frailty in patients with COPD. A total of 17 other risk factors for frailty were identified via qualitative synthesis. CONCLUSION: The incidence of frailty in patients with COPD is high, and there are many influencing factors.

RESUMO

Based on the favorable ionic conductivity and structural stability, sodium superionic conductor (NASICON) materials especially utilizing multivalent redox reaction of vanadium are one of the most promising cathodes in sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). To further boost their application in large-scale energy storage production, a rational strategy is to tailor vanadium with earth-abundant and cheap elements (such as Fe, Mn), reducing the cost and toxicity of vanadium-based NASICON materials. Here, the Na3.05 V1.03 Fe0.97 (PO4 )3 (NVFP) is synthesized with highly conductive Ketjen Black (KB) by ball-milling assisted sol-gel method. The pearl-like KB branch chains encircle the NVFP (p-NVFP), the segregated particles possess promoted overall conductivity, balanced charge, and modulated crystal structure during electrochemical progress. The p-NVFP obtains significantly enhanced ion diffusion ability and low volume change (2.99%). Meanwhile, it delivers a durable cycling performance (87.7% capacity retention over 5000 cycles at 5 C) in half cells. Surprisingly, the full cells of p-NVFP reveal a remarkable capability of 84.9 mAh g-1 at 20 C with good cycling performance (capacity decay rate is 0.016% per cycle at 2 C). The structure modulation of the p-NVFP provides a rational design on the superiority of others to be put into practice.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the changes and significance of type 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2), interleukin-33 (IL-33), interleukin-25 (IL-25), thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), interleukin-5 (IL-5), and interleukin-13 (IL-13) in peripheral blood of preterm infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). METHODS: A total of 76 preterm infants with a gestational age of <32 weeks and a length of hospital stay of ≥14 days who were admitted to the Department of Pediatrics of the Affiliated Hospital of Jiangsu University from September 2020 to December 2021 were enrolled. According to the diagnostic criteria for BPD, they were divided into a BPD group with 30 infants and a non-BPD group with 46 infants. The two groups were compared in terms of the percentage of ILC2 and the levels of IL-33, IL-25, TSLP, IL-5, and IL-13 in peripheral blood on days 1, 7, and 14 after birth. RESULTS: The BPD group had significantly lower birth weight and gestational age than the non-BPD group (P<0.05). On days 7 and 14 after birth, the BPD group had significantly higher levels of ILC2, IL-33, TSLP, and IL-5 than the non-BPD group (P<0.05), and these indices had an area under the curve of >0.7 in predicting the devolpment of BPD (P<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that after adjusting for gestational age and birth weight, peripheral blood IL-33, TSLP and IL-5 on days 7 and 14 after birth were closely related to the devolpment of BPD (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Early innate immune activation and upregulated expression of related factors may be observed in preterm infants with BPD. ILC2, IL-33, TSLP, and IL-5 may be used as biological indicators for early diagnosis of BPD.

RESUMO

With the rapid development of sodium-ion batteries (SIBs), it is urgent to exploit the cathode materials with good rate capability, attractive high energy density and considerable long cycle performance. Na3V2(PO4)3(NVP), as a NASICON-type electrode material, is one of the cathode materials with great potential for application because of its good thermal stability and stable. However, NVP has the inherent problem of low electronic conductivity, and various strategies are proposed to improve it, moreover, nanotechnology or nanostructure are involved in these strategies, the construction of nanostructured active particles and nanocomposites with conductive carbon networks have been shown to be effective in improving the electrical conductivity of NVP. Herein, we review the research progress of NVP performance improvement strategies from the perspective of nanostructures and classifies the prepared nanomaterials according to their different nano-dimension. In addition, NVP nanocomposites are reviewed in terms of both preparation methods and promotion effects, and examples of NVP nanocomposites at different nano-dimension are given. Finally, some personal views are presented to provide reasonable guidance for the research and design of high-performance polyanionic cathode materials of SIBs.

RESUMO

Monolayer biphenylene is a new two-dimensional (2D) carbon allotrope, which has been experimentally synthesized and theoretically predicted to show superconductivity. In this work, we investigate functionalized biphenylene with the adsorption of Li. The superconducting critical temperature (Tc) can be pushed from 0.59 K up to 3.91 K after Li adsorption. Our calculations confirm that the adsorption pushes the peak showing a high electronic density of states closer to the Fermi level, which usually leads to a larger Tc. Furthermore, the application of biaxial tensile strain can soften phonons and further enhance the Tc up to 15.86 K in Li-deposited biphenylene. Interestingly, a pair of type-II Dirac cones below the Fermi level has been observed, expanding the range of Dirac materials. It suggests that monolayer biphenylene deposited with Li may be a material with potential applications and improves the understanding of Dirac-type superconductors.

RESUMO

Evidence points to the indispensable function of alveolar macrophages (AMs) in normal lung development and tissue homeostasis. However, the importance of AMs in bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) has not been elucidated. Here, we identified a significant role of abnormal AM proliferation and polarization in alveolar dysplasia during BPD, which is closely related to the activation of the IL-33-ST2 pathway. Compared with the control BPD group, AMs depletion partially abolished the epithelialmesenchymal transition process of AECII and alleviated pulmonary differentiation arrest. In addition, IL-33 or ST2 knockdown has protective effects against lung injury after hyperoxia, which is associated with reduced AM polarization and proliferation. The protective effect disappeared following reconstitution of AMs in injured IL-33 knockdown mice, and the differentiation of lung epithelium was blocked again. In conclusion, the IL-33-ST2 pathway regulates AECII transdifferentiation by targeting AMs proliferation and polarization in BPD, which shows a novel strategy for manipulating the IL-33-ST2-AMs axis for the diagnosis and intervention of BPD.

RESUMO

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have received increased interest in recent years as an advanced class of materials. By virtue of the available monomers, multiple conformations and various linkages, COFs offer a wide range of opportunities for complex structural design and specific functional development of materials, which has facilitated the widespread application in many fields, including multi-valent metal ion batteries (MVMIBs), described as the attractive candidate replacing lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). With their robust skeletons, diverse pores, flexible structures and abundant functional groups, COFs are expected to help realize a high performance MVMIBs. In this review, we present an overview of COFs, describe advances in topology design and synthetic reactions, and study the application of COFs in MVMIBs, as well as discuss challenges and solutions in the preparation of COFs electrodes, in the hope of providing constructive insights into the future direction of COFs.

RESUMO

Theoretically and experimentally, MXenes consisting of Mo and C have aroused much interest due to superconductivity in their films and even monolayer forms. Here, based on first-principles calculations, we systematically calculate the electronic structure, phonon dispersion, and electron-phonon coupling (EPC) of monolayer Mo2C (both T- and H-phases), Mo3C2, and Mo3C3. The results show that H-MoxCy (x = 2 or 3, y = 1-3) always have lower total energies than their corresponding T phase and other configurations. All these two-dimensional (2D) molybdenum carbides are metals and some of them display weak phonon-mediated superconductivity at different superconducting transition temperatures (Tc). The Mo 4d-orbitals play a critical role in their electronic properties and the Mo atomic vibrations play a dominant role in their low-frequency phonons, EPC, and superconductivity. By comparison, we find that increasing the Mo content can enhance the EPC and Tc. Besides, we further explore the impact of strain engineering on their superconducting related physical quantities. With increasing biaxial stretching, the phonon dispersions are gradually softened to form some soft modes, which can trigger some peaks of α2F(ω) in the low-frequency region and evidently increase the EPC λ. The Tc of H-Mo2C can be increased up to 11.79 K. Upon further biaxial stretching, charge density waves may appear in T-Mo2C, H-Mo3C2, and H-Mo3C3.

RESUMO

Objective: To investigate the current situation of self-perceived burden in patients with urostomy, analyze the correlation between self-perceived burden and quality of life, and explore the intermediary role of resilience and social support. Methods: The convenience sampling method was used to select 303 patients with urostomy of outpatient departments of the three tertiary hospitals in Yinchuan, Ningxia region, China, from April 1, 2020, to October 1, 2020, who then completed a survey questionnaire. The survey questionnaire contained a general data questionnaire and self-perceived burden scale, city of hope-quality of life-ostomy questionnaire, Connor-Davidson resilience scale, and social support rating scale. Results: Self-perceived burden was present among 89.8% patients with urostomy; the quality of life of patients with urostomy is low. The results showed that the self-perceived burden and quality of life, resilience, and social support are related in pairs; self-perceived burden was significantly negatively correlated with quality of life, resilience, and social support; there was a significant positive correlation between quality of life, resilience, and social support; resilience and social support were parallel mediators. Conclusions: Patients with urostomy had a heavy self-perceived burden and low quality of life. Reducing the self-perceived burden of patients with urostomy by improving the level of resilience and social support, could raise the level of quality of life. This study could provide empirical basis for nurses to take continuous nursing intervention measures in order to reduce the self-perceived burden of patients with urostomy and ultimately to improve the quality of life.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: We report on a case of Vibrio vulnificus (V. vulnificus) detected by metagenomics next-generation sequencing (mNGS) in a 53-year-old male patient with polymicrobial gas gangrene and successful treatment by surgery. This report raises awareness among dermatologists that when a patient is clinically suspected of a special type of pathogenic infection, the mNGS method should be preferred to identify the patient's pathogen infection as soon as possible and then take effective treatment in time to save patients' lives. CASE SUMMARY: A 53-year-old male who worked in the aquatic market complained of redness and swelling of the lower limbs, blisters and ulcers with fever for 3 d. We used mNGS to test the pathogens in ulcer secretions. The results were returned in 24 h and indicated: V. vulnificus, Fusobacterium necrophorum, Staphylococcus haemolyticus, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus dysgalactiae and Klebsiella aerogenes. This patient was diagnosed with V. vulnificus infection. The emergency operation was performed immediately under combined lumbar and epidural anesthesia: Left leg expansion and exploration (August 10, 2021). After surgery, we continued to use piperacillin sodium tazobactam sodium 4.5 g every 8 h and levofloxacin 0.5 g for anti-infection treatment. The patient underwent further surgery under lumbar anesthesia on August 17, 2021 and August 31, 2021: Left leg deactivation and skin grafting, negative pressure closed drainage and right thigh skin removal. After treatment, the transplanted flap survived. CONCLUSION: We could confirm the diagnosis of Vibrio vulnificus infection within 24 h through mNGS detection and then immediately performed emergency surgery.

RESUMO

As an allotrope of graphene, T-graphene was predicted to be an intrinsic two-dimensional (2D) superconductor with a superconducting critical temperature (Tc) of about 20.8 K [Gu et al., Chin. Phys. Lett. 36, 097401 (2019)]. In this work, based on first-principles calculations, hole doping and biaxial tensile strain (BTS) are considered to modulate the electron-phonon coupling (EPC) and superconductivity of T-graphene. It is found that the EPC constant of T-graphene is 0.807 and the calculated critical temperature Tc is 28.2 K at a doping level of 0.5 hole per unit cell (3.31 × 1014 cm-2) and 12% BTS. Furthermore, when 0.8 hole per unit cell (5.43 × 1014 cm-2) doping and 10% BTS are applied, the EPC constant is 0.939, and the Tc can be boosted to 35.2 K, which is higher than those of the pristine T-graphene and many other 2D carbon-based superconductors.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the current status of antibiotic use in very low birth weight/extremely low birth weight infants in Jiangsu Province of China, and to provide a clinical basis for the quality and improvement of antibiotic management in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on the data on general conditions and antibiotic use in the very low birth weight/extremely low birth weight infants who were admitted to 15 hospitals of Jiangsu Province from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020. A questionnaire containing 10 measures to reduce antibiotic use was designed to investigate the implementation of these intervention measures. RESULTS: A total of 1 920 very low birth weight/extremely low birth weight infants were enrolled, among whom 1 846 (96.15%) were treated with antibiotic, and the median antibiotic use rate (AUR) was 50/100 patient-days. The AUR ranged from 24/100 to 100/100 patient-days in the 15 hospitals. After adjustment for the confounding factors including gestational age, birth weight, and neonatal critical score, the Poisson regression analysis showed that there was a significant difference in the adjusted AUR (aAUR) among the hospitals (P<0.01). The investigation results showed that among the 10 measures to reduce antibiotic use, 8 measures were implemented in less than 50% of these hospitals, and the number of intervention measures implemented was negatively correlated with aAUR (rs=-0.564, P=0.029). CONCLUSIONS: There is a high AUR among the very low birth weight/extremely low birth weight infants in the 15 hospitals of Jiangsu Province, with a significant difference among hospitals. The hospitals implementing a relatively few measures to reduce antibiotic use tend to have a high AUR. It is expected to reduce AUR in very low birth weight/extremely low birth weight infants by promoting the quality improvement of antibiotic use management in the NICU.
