RESUMO

A Gram-stain-negative, oxidase-negative, rod-shaped, motile, facultatively anaerobic bacterial strain, designated as CY1220T, was isolated from an anaerobic fermentation liquid of food waste treatment plant. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that the strain CY1220T belongs to the genus Thiopseudomonas, with the highest sequence similarity to Thiopseudomonas alkaliphila B4199T (95.91%), followed by Thiopseudomonas denitrificans X2T (95.56%). The genomic DNA G + C content of strain CY1220T was 48.6 mol%. The average nucleotide identity values and digital DNA-DNA hybridization values between strain CY1220T and the type species of T. alkaliphila and T. denitrificans were in the range of 70.8-71.6% and 19.2-20.0%, respectively, below the thresholds for species delineation. The strain was able to grow utilizing acetic acid and butyric acid (AABA) as the sole carbon source in aerobic conditions. Genomic analysis predicted that the strain could synthesize vitamin B12 and ectoine. The predominant cellular fatty acids were C18:1 ω7c and/or C18:1 ω6c, C16:0, C16:1 ω7c and/or C16:1 ω6c and C12:0. The polar lipids comprised diphosphatidylglycerol, unknown polar lipid, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, and phospholipid. Q-8 (2.1%) and Q-9 (97.9%) were detected as the respiratory quinones. Based on its phenotypic, genotypic and genomic characteristics, strain CY1220T represents a novel species in the genus Thiopseudomonas, for which the name Thiopseudomonas acetoxidans sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CY1220T (= GDMCC 1.3503 T = JCM 35747 T).

The anaerobic digestion (AD) of food waste (FW) was easy to acidify and accumulate ammonia nitrogen. Adding exogenous materials to the AD system can enhance its conversion efficiency by alleviating acidification and ammonia nitrogen inhibition. This work investigated the effects of the addition frequency and additive amount on the AD of FW with increasing organic loading rate (OLR). When the OLR was 3.0 g VS per L per day and the concentration of the additives was 0.5 g per L per day, the stable methane yield reached 263 ± 22 mL per g VS, which was higher than that of the group without the additives (189 mL per g VS). Methanosaetaceae was the dominant archaea, with a maximum abundance of 93.25%. Through machine learning analysis, it was found that the optimal daily methane yield could be achieved. When the OLR was within the range of 0-3.0 g VS per L per day, the pH was within the range of 7.6-8.0, and the additive concentration was more than 0.5 g per L per day. This study proposed a novel additive and determined its usage strategy for regulating the AD of FW through experimental and simulation approaches.

PURPOSE: Anxiety, depression, and poor quality of life (QOL) were considered important concerns that hindered the rehabilitation of breast cancer survivors. A number of studies have investigated the effects of physical activity, but they have not reached the same conclusions. This review aimed to identify the effects of physical activity on QOL, anxiety, and depression in breast cancer survivors. METHODS: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), PsycINFO, SinoMed, CNKI, Vip, and WanFang databases were searched for the time period between January 1, 2012, and April 30, 2022. Studies were included if they were randomized controlled trials of the effects of physical activity on QOL, anxiety, or depression in breast cancer survivors. The tools of the Joanna Briggs Institute were used to assess the quality of the included studies. R software version 4.3.1 was used for meta-analysis. RESULTS: A total of 26 studies, involving 2105 participants, were included in the systematic review. Among these, 20 studies involving 1228 participants were included in the meta-analysis. Compared with the control group, the results indicated that physical activity can significantly improve QOL(Hedges' g = 0.67; 95% CI 0.41-0.92) and reduce anxiety (Hedges' g = -0.28; 95% CI -0.46 to -0.10) in breast cancer survivors. However, the effect of physical activity on depression (Hedges' g = -0.46; 95% CI -0.99 to 0.06) was not statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS: Physical activity was an effective intervention to improve QOL and reduce anxiety in breast cancer survivors, as well as showed positive trends in depression, although without statistical significance. More well-designed studies are required to clarify the effects of different types of physical activities on the QOL, anxiety, and depression among breast cancer survivors. PURPOSE: This study aimed to synthesize and evaluate the available qualitative literature on posttreatment participation in exercise rehabilitation among breast cancer survivors. METHODS: This systematic review followed the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) meta-aggregation approach guided by ENTREQ, graded according to the ConQual approach, and evaluated using the JBI Qualitative Assessment and Review Instrument (JBI-QARI). We searched qualitative or mixed methods studies related to the experiences of exercise rehabilitation among breast cancer survivors conducted until April 13, 2023, in nine English and Chinese databases. The selected studies were reviewed independently, and the data were collaboratively synthesized into core themes. RESULTS: A total of 24 studies were included, and 88 findings resulted in five synthesis findings: (a) benefits of participating in exercise rehabilitation, (b) facilitators of participation in exercise rehabilitation, (c) obstacle factors for participating in exercise rehabilitation, (d) evaluation of the exercise program, and (e) recommendations. CONCLUSION: Breast cancer survivors need exercise to recover physically and mentally and to transition from cancer treatment to a normal life. The factors affecting exercise participation in breast cancer survivors are complex. Breast cancer survivors require timely and continuous effective exercise intervention forms, including online, offline, instrumental, and emotional support from others, especially healthcare providers and family members. Moreover, multidisciplinary collaboration is required to develop more effective and convenient exercise interventions.

Strain CY1518T was isolated from an anaerobic fermentation liquid of food waste treatment plant in Beijing, PR China, and characterized to assess its taxonomy. Cells of CY1518T were Gram-stain-negative, oxidase-negative, catalase-positive and ellipsoidal. Growth occurred at 20-42 °C (optimum, 37 °C), pH 6.0-10.0 (optimum, pH 8) and with 0-6.0 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 1.5%). Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain CY1518T belongs to the genus Alcanivorax, with the highest sequence similarity to Alcanivorax pacificus W11-5T (95.97 %), followed by Alcanivorax indicus SW127T (95.08%). The similarity between strain CY1518T and other strains of Alcanivorax was less than 95 %. The genomic DNA G+C content of strain CY1518T was 60.88 mol%. The average nucleotide identity, average amino acid identity and digital DNA-DNA hybridization values between strain CY1518T and the closely related taxa A. pacificus W11-5T and A. indicus SW127T were 77.61, 78.03 and 21.2 % and 74.15, 70.02 and 19.3%, respectively. The strain was able to use d-serine, Tween 40 and some organic acid compounds for growth. The polar lipids comprised aminophospholipid, diphosphatidylglycerol, glycolipid, an unknown polar lipid, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol and phospholipid. The principal fatty acids (>5 %) were C19 : 0 cyclo ω8c (36.3%), C16 : 0 (32.3%), C12 : 0 3-OH (8.3%) and C12 : 0 (7.6%). Based on its phenotypic, genotypic and genomic characteristics, strain CY1518T represents a novel species in the genus Alcanivorax, for which the name Alcanivorax quisquiliarum sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CY1518T (=GDMCC 1.2918T=JCM 35120T).

The parameters from full-scale biogas plants are highly nonlinear and imbalanced, resulting in low prediction accuracy when using traditional machine learning algorithms. In this study, a hybrid extreme learning machine (ELM) model was proposed to improve prediction accuracy by solving imbalanced data. The results showed that the best ELM model had a good prediction for validation data (R2 = 0.972), and the model was developed into the software (prediction error of 2.15 %). Furthermore, two parameters within a certain range (feed volume (FV) = 23-45 m3 and total volatile fatty acids of anaerobic digestion (TVFAAD) = 1750-3000 mg/L) were identified as the most important characteristics that positively affected biogas production. This study combines machine learning with data-balancing techniques and optimization algorithms to achieve accurate predictions of plant biogas production at various loads.

As a group of green biocatalysts, fungal laccases have aroused great interest in diverse biotechnological fields. Therein, yellow laccase has advantages over blue laccase in catalytic performance, but it is not common in the reported fungal laccases. Here, we report a yellow laccase from white-rot fungus Coriolopsis gallica NCULAC F1 about its production, purification, characterization, and application. Laccase production in the co-fermentation of pomelo peel and wheat bran reached the enzyme activity by 10,690 U/L after 5 days with a 13.58-time increase. After three steps of purification, laccase increased the specific activity from 30.78 to 188.79 U/mg protein with an activity recovery of 45.64%. The purified C. gallica laccase (CGLac) showed a molecular mass of about 57 kDa. CGLac had a yellow color and no absorption peaks at 610 nm and 330 nm, suggesting that it's a yellow laccase. CGLac exhibited stability towards temperature (40-60 °C) and neutral pH (6.0-8.0). Fe3+ and Mn2+ strongly stimulated CGLac activity by 162.56% and 226.05%, respectively. CGLac remained high activities when exposed to organic reagents and putative inhibitors. Additionally, CGLac contributed to 90.78%, 93.26%, and 99.66% removal of phenol, p-chlorophenol and bisphenol A after 120 min, respectively. In conclusion, a green efficient production strategy was introduced for fungal laccase, and the obtained CGLac presented great enzymatic properties and catalytic potential in the removal of phenolic pollutants.

Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is the second common cancer in Henan province and is well-known for aggressiveness and dismal prognosis. Adjuvant therapies, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and endoscopic treatment have not improved survival rates in patients with late stage esophageal carcinoma. All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) is the active ingredient of Vitamin A and affects a wide spectrum of biological processes including development, growth, neural function, immune function, reproduction, and vision. It is one of the most potent therapeutic agents used for treating cancers, especially lung adenocarcinomas. ATRA inhibits metastatic potential and angiogenesis in several tumor models. We investigated the effects of ATRA on the expression of angiopoietin 1 (Ang-1), angiopoietin 2 (Ang-2) and receptor Tie-2 in EC1 cells in vitro. We also assessed the growth and migration of EC1 cells in vitro. ATRA treatment caused 29.5% and 40.3% reduction of the growth of EC1 cells after 24 hours and 48 hours, relative to the control. ATRA plus fluorouracil treatment reduced the viability more strongly than either drug alone, indicating an additive effect. Moreover, ATRA decreased EC1 migration by 87%. Furthermore, ATRA treatment led to a marked decrease of the transcript levels of Ang-1, Ang-2, Tie-2, VEGF, and VEGF receptors, as assessed by real-time RT-PCR. Importantly, the protein levels of Ang-1, Ang-2 and Tie-2 were reduced by ATRA treatment. In vivo, we found ATRA treatment suppressed the tumor growth and improved the cachexia of mice. Importantly, ATRA treatment decreased the expression of CD31, Ang-1, Ang-2 and Tie-2 in subcutaneous tumors of EC1 cells. Collectively, our findings demonstrate that ATRA exhibits a dose- and temporal-dependent effect on the metastatic behavior, suppresses the angiopoietin-Tie2 pathway and inhibits angiogenesis and the progression of xenograft tumors of EC1 cells.
