RESUMO

Titanium (Ti) and its alloys are known to exhibit room-temperature fracture toughness below 130 MPa m1/2, only about one half of the best austenitic stainless steels. It is purported that this is not the best possible fracture resistance of Ti, but a result of oxygen impurities that sensitively retard the activities of plasticity carriers in this hexagonal close-packed metal. By a reduction of oxygen content from the 0.14 wt% in commercial purity Ti to 0.02 wt%, the mode-Ι fracture toughness of the low-oxygen Ti is measured to be as high as KJ Ic ≈ 255 MPa m1/2, corresponding to J-integral-based crack-initiation toughness of up to JIc ≈ 537 kJ m-2. This extraordinary toughness, reported here for the first time for pure Ti, places Ti among the toughest known materials. The intrinsic high fracture resistance is attributed to the profuse plastic deformation in a significantly enlarged plastic zone, rendered by the pronounced deformation twinning ahead of the crack tip along with ample twin-stimulated 〈c+a〉 dislocation activities, in the absence of impeding oxygen. Controlling the content of a property-controlling impurity thus holds the promise to be a readily applicable strategy to reach for unprecedented damage tolerance in some other structural alloys.

RESUMO

Objectives: An increasing number of studies have shown that third (CB3)- and fourth-generation cryoballoons (CB4) have been used to treat various types of atrial fibrillation (AF), but previous research regarding the safety and efficacy of CB3 or CB4 ablation remains controversial. Therefore, a meta-analysis was performed to further evaluate the safety and efficacy of pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) using the CB3 and CB4 in the treatment of AF. Methods: We searched PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang, China Science and Technology Journal Database, and Clinicaltrials.gov up to December 2023 for qualified trials and data extraction according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. All analyses were carried out using Review Manager 5.3 software. Results: The meta-analysis included 13 observational studies consisting of 3,281 subjects and did not include a randomized controlled trial. Overall analyses indicated that the CB3 significantly reduced total procedure time [weighted mean difference (WMD) = -8.69 min, 95% confidence interval (CI) = -15.45 to -1.94 min, I2 = 93%], increased the PVI recording [relative risk (RR) = 1.24, 95% CI = 1.03-1.49, I2 = 90%], and increased the mean nadir temperature of overall PVs (WMD = 2.80°C, 95% CI = 1.08-4.51°C, I2 = 89%) compared with the CB2. Moreover, the CB4 significantly reduced the total procedure time (WMD = -14.50 min, 95% CI = -20.89 to -8.11 min, I2 = 95%), reduced the fluoroscopy time (WMD = -2.37 min, 95% CI = -4.28 to -0.46 min, I2 = 95%), increased the PVI recording (RR = 1.40, 95% CI = 1.15-1.71, I2 = 90%) compared with the CB2. Time-to-isolation, the success rate of PVI, AF recurrence, and complications in the CB3 and CB4 were not significantly different compared with the CB2. Conclusion: These findings demonstrated that the CB3 and CB4 tended to be more effective than the CB2 in the treatment of AF, with shorter procedure times, more PVI recording, and similar safety endpoints.

RESUMO

Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) is an autosomal dominant condition that still remains significantly under-diagnosed worldwide. Early detection through clinical evaluation, imaging, and familial history is crucial to prevent severe complications such as heart failure and sudden cardiac death. While cuddsnt management strategies primarily offer symptomatic relief through pharmacotherapy or invasive procedures, their effectiveness and accessibility are limited, revealing substantial gaps in care. The emergence of Mavacamten, a recently FDA-approved drug, could potentially revolutionize HOCM management as it addresses the underlying pathophysiology by inhibiting cardiac myosin ATPase, showing promise in reducing obstruction and improving cardiac function. Our review aims to assess mavacamten's efficacy, emphasizing the pivotal role of genetic testing in identifying at-risk individuals and guiding precise diagnoses for personalized treatments. Additionally, we aim to highlight disparities in access to advanced diagnostics and therapies, particularly affecting underserved populations globally and within communities, as well as explore the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing early detection and monitoring treatment responses in HOCM. This review thus offers valuable insights to inform future research directions and clinical practices aimed at optimizing outcomes for individuals with HOCM.

RESUMO

In 2016 the Choosing Wisely guidelines advised against routine performance of a sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) in women ≥ 70 years of age with clinically node negative (cN0), early-stage, oestrogen receptor positive/ human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 negative (ER+/HER2-), invasive breast cancer. The argument in favour of its continued performance is that it may serve as a useful guide for subsequent management. This systematic review was performed in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. Studies reporting on rate of adjuvant chemotherapy, adjuvant radiotherapy and performance of completion axillary lymph node dissection (cALND) post SLNB in women aged ≥ 65 years with cN0, early-stage, ER+/HER2-, invasive breast cancer were included. A random effects meta-analysis was performed with summary estimates made using the Mantel-Haenszel method. Dichotomous outcomes were reported as odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Ten retrospective studies across 4 countries. Of 105,514 patients, 15,509 had a positive SLNB and 90,005 had a negative SLNB. On meta-analysis, a positive SLNB was significantly associated with receipt of adjuvant chemotherapy (OR 4.64 (95% CI 3.18, 6.77), P < .00001), adjuvant radiotherapy (1.71 (95% CI 1.18, 2.47), P = .005) and undergoing completion axillary lymph node dissection (OR 68.97 (95% CI, 7.47, 636.88), P = .0002). Adjuvant treatment decisions continue to be influenced by SLNB positivity in the era of the Choosing Wisely guidelines. The effects of a positive SLNB and subsequent treatments on outcomes remain inconclusive. However, it is likely clinicians are continuing to over-investigate and over-treat this cohort.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Enhancing patient confidence in their ability (self-efficacy) is vital to ensure people are equipped to maintain home dialysis protocols. Bandura's social cognitive theory provided a framework for understanding the role of self-efficacy in patients managing home dialysis. OBJECTIVES: To identify self-reported levels of self-efficacy, the measurements used to assess self-efficacy and the effectiveness of interventions to enhance self-efficacy in patients undergoing home dialysis. DESIGN: An integrative review approach was employed using Whittemore and Knafl's methodology. METHODS: A comprehensive search was conducted to identify literature on self-efficacy in patients managing home dialysis. Searches were conducted in CINAHL, MEDLINE, Embase and Scopus databases without a date limit. The included literature was critically appraised for methodological quality. Data extraction was conducted to report the study characteristics, measurement tools used and interventions conducted along with the synthesis of findings in a narrative format. RESULTS: Fifteen studies were included in the review were predominantly quantitative examining training programmes promoting self-efficacy in adults conducting home dialysis. The finding that self-efficacy builds over time was structured into two themes; gaining skills to develop self-efficacy and building and maintaining knowledge of self-efficacy. CONCLUSION: The findings highlighted the importance of employing multifaceted strategies with support from health professionals including nurses, families and peer support to develop self-efficacy in patients undergoing home dialysis.

RESUMO

Rationale: Identification and validation of circulating biomarkers for lung function decline in COPD remains an unmet need. Objective: Identify prognostic and dynamic plasma protein biomarkers of COPD progression. Methods: We measured plasma proteins using SomaScan from two COPD-enriched cohorts, the Subpopulations and Intermediate Outcomes Measures in COPD Study (SPIROMICS) and Genetic Epidemiology of COPD (COPDGene), and one population-based cohort, Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) Lung. Using SPIROMICS as a discovery cohort, linear mixed models identified baseline proteins that predicted future change in FEV1 (prognostic model) and proteins whose expression changed with change in lung function (dynamic model). Findings were replicated in COPDGene and MESA-Lung. Using the COPD-enriched cohorts, Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) identified proteins shared between COPDGene and SPIROMICS. Metascape identified significant associated pathways. Measurements and Main Results: The prognostic model found 7 significant proteins in common (p < 0.05) among all 3 cohorts. After applying false discovery rate (adjusted p < 0.2), leptin remained significant in all three cohorts and growth hormone receptor remained significant in the two COPD cohorts. Elevated baseline levels of leptin and growth hormone receptor were associated with slower rate of decline in FEV1. Twelve proteins were nominally but not FDR significant in the dynamic model and all were distinct from the prognostic model. Metascape identified several immune related pathways unique to prognostic and dynamic proteins. Conclusion: We identified leptin as the most reproducible COPD progression biomarker. The difference between prognostic and dynamic proteins suggests disease activity signatures may be different from prognosis signatures.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Anxiety affects the patient's perception of postoperative pain and causes a significant increase in the consumption of analgesia postoperatively. OBJECTIVE: This study assesses the relationship between preoperative anxiety, postoperative pain and postoperative pethidine consumption. METHODS: A prospective cohort design was used. Data were collected from 100 patients who were undergoing a laparoscopic cholecystectomy at St Joseph Hospital, Jerusalem. Pain-controlled analgesia with pethidine was utilised to manage pain throughout the postoperative period. The visual analogue scale scores and pethidine consumption of all patients were recorded. FINDINGS: Participants' mean level of pain was higher in the preoperative period (mean visual analogue scale = 1.3) compared with their mean level of pain in the postoperative period (mean visual analogue scale = 0.5). There is a statistically significant difference between the participants' level of anxiety and postoperative pain level (p < 0.001). Gender, weight, level of education and smoking were predictors of developing preoperative anxiety. Also, gender, smoking and medication were statistically significant predictors of developing postoperative pain. Furthermore, gender, medical history and medication were statistically significant predictors of pethidine consumption postoperatively. CONCLUSIONS: The preoperative anxiety reduction intervention should be promoted and implemented as routine care for all surgical patients.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Providing care for people with dementia incorporates a level of burden which can affect quality of life for both the caregiver and the recipient of care. This study measures the level of burden experienced by Jordanian caregivers for people with dementia and explore related predictors. METHODS: Through a cross-sectional survey, participants were invited through convenience sampling to participate in a structured interview. RESULTS: A total of 406 participants completed the survey. According to Zarit Burden Interview, the mean burden score of the sample was 26.2 (SD = 16.2). This score falls under the mild to moderate burden level. Older age of the patient, severe dementia, lower number of caregivers, if the caregiving negatively affected family relations, and if the caregiving negatively affected jobs, were significant predictors of burden. CONCLUSION: Caregivers in the current study reported no burden to a minimum burden. This result does not mean that these caregivers have no or minimal stress or that they do not have psychological needs; on the contrary, these results call for more attention to providing extra psychological and emotional support to caregivers of patients with dementia in order to decrease the burden level and maintain their efforts in caregiving. Future studies are required to discern the shape and context of unmet caregiver needs, assessment, and support.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Liver transplantations (LTs) with extended criteria have produced surgical results comparable to those obtained with traditional standards. However, it is not sufficient to predict hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) recurrence after LT according to morphological criteria alone. The present study aimed to construct a nomogram for predicting HCC recurrence after LT using extended selection criteria. METHODS: Retrospective data on patients with HCC, including pathology, serological markers and follow-up data, were collected from January 2015 to April 2020 at Huashan Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai, China. Logistic least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to identify and construct the prognostic nomogram. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, Kaplan-Meier curves, decision curve analyses (DCAs), calibration diagrams, net reclassification indices (NRIs) and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) values were used to assess the prognostic capacity of the nomogram. RESULTS: A total of 301 patients with HCC who underwent LT were enrolled in the study. The nomogram was constructed, and the ROC curve showed good performance in predicting survival in both the development set (2/3) and the validation set (1/3) (the area under the curve reached 0.748 and 0.716, respectively). According to the median value of the risk score, the patients were categorized into the high- and low-risk groups, which had significantly different recurrence-free survival (RFS) rates (P < 0.01). Compared with the Milan criteria and University of California San Francisco (UCSF) criteria, DCA revealed that the new nomogram model had the best net benefit in predicting 1-, 3- and 5-year RFS. The nomogram performed well for calibration, NRI and IDI improvement. CONCLUSIONS: The nomogram, based on the Milan criteria and serological markers, showed good accuracy in predicting the recurrence of HCC after LT using extended selection criteria.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Spiritual Care is integral to holistic nursing; however, it often remains underprovided due to a lack of education. OBJECTIVE: This study examined perceptions of spirituality and predictors of competence in spiritual care among nursing students in Middle Eastern countries. DESIGN: A cross-sectional survey was used. PARTICIPANT/SETTING: Nursing students (n = 785) from five universities in Middle Eastern countries were included. METHODS: Participants completed the Spiritual Care-Giving Scale-Arabic and Spiritual Care Competency Scale. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to identify the predictors of perceived competence in spiritual care. RESULTS: Nursing students showed positive attitudes towards spirituality, with a mean score of 5.1 (SD = 0.60) on the Spiritual Care-Giving Scale-Arabic. However, their perceived competence in providing spiritual care was low to moderate with a mean score of 79.0 (SD = 32.0) on the Spiritual Care Competency Scale. The bivariate analysis indicated significant relationships between students' spiritual care competence and gender, previous exposure to spirituality education, willingness to undergo spirituality training, and total spirituality score. Finally, significant predictors of higher competence included regular admission status, prior spiritual education, willingness to undergo spiritual care training, and higher personal spirituality scores. CONCLUSION: Nursing students in the Middle East have positive attitudes towards spirituality, but low to moderate competence in providing spiritual care. The influence of personal spirituality on competence underscores the importance of fostering a supportive environment for students to reflect on their beliefs. Comprehensive curriculum revisions and training programs, along with the recognition of the impact of personal spirituality, are essential to prepare future nurses for holistic people's care.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: There have been ongoing attempts to de-escalate surgical intervention in older breast cancer patients in recent years. However, there remains ongoing hesitancy amongst surgeons to de-implement axillary staging in this cohort. The supporting argument for performing a sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) is that it may guide subsequent management. METHODS: A retrospective review was performed of 356 SLNBs, in 342 women ≥ 70 years of age with invasive breast cancer, between 2014 and 2022 in a single institution. Data were collected on patient and tumor characteristics and subsequent management for all patients and for patients with ER+/HER2-, early-stage disease. RESULTS: Positive SLNB significantly increased likelihood of receiving adjuvant chemotherapy (CTh) in patients aged 70-75 in all clinical subtypes (OR 4.0, 95% CI, 1.6-10; P = .0035). Positive SLNB did not significantly increase likelihood of receiving adjuvant CTh in patients aged 75-80, however, an Oncotype Dx score of ≥ 26 did (OR 34.50, 95% CI, 3.00-455.2; P = .0103). Positive SLNB was significantly associated with receiving adjuvant radiotherapy (RTh) in all patients aged 70-75 (OR 4.5, 95% CI, 2.0-11; P = .0004) and 75-80 (OR 9.7, 95% CI, 2.7-46; P = .0015). In patients aged ≥ 80 years, positive SLNB did not have a significant influence on subsequent treatments. CONCLUSION: In this study, SLNB did not significantly influence subsequent management decisions in patients over 80 and should rarely be performed in this cohort. However, SLNB still had a role in patients aged 70-80 and should be used selectively in this cohort.

RESUMO

Lanthanide-doped upconversion (UC) luminescent materials display multicolor emissions, making them ideal for a variety of applications, such as multi-channel biological imaging, fluorescence encryption, anti-counterfeiting, and 3D display. Manipulating the UC emissions of the luminescent materials with a fixed composition is crucial for their applications. Herein, we propose a facile strategy to achieve pulse-width-dependent multicolor UC emissions in NaYF4:Yb/Er/Tm nanocrystals. Upon excitation with a 980 nm continuous-wave laser diode, Er3+ ions in NaYF4:20%Yb,15%Er,1%Tm nanocrystals exhibited UC emissions with a red-to-green (R/G) ratio of 11.3. Nevertheless, by employing a 980 nm pulse laser with pulse widths from 0.1 to 10 ms, the UC R/G ratio can be easily adjusted from 0.9 to 11.3, resulting in continuous and remarkable color transformation from green, yellow, orange, to red. By virtue of the dynamic luminescence color variation of these NaYF4:20%Yb,15%Er,1%Tm nanocrystals, we demonstrated their potential applications in the areas of anti-counterfeiting and information encryption. These findings provide deep insights into the excited-state dynamics and energy transfer of Er3+ in NaYF4:Yb/Er/Tm nanocrystals upon 980 nm pulse excitation, which may pave the way for designing multicolor UC materials toward versatile applications.

RESUMO

In the absence of externally applied mechanical loading, it would seem counterintuitive that a solid particle sitting on the surface of another solid could not only sink into the latter, but also continue its rigid-body motion towards the interior, reaching a depth as distant as thousands of times the particle diameter. Here, we demonstrate such a case using in situ microscopic as well as bulk experiments, in which diamond nanoparticles ~100 nm in size move into iron up to millimeter depth, at a temperature about half of the melting point of iron. Each diamond nanoparticle is nudged as a whole, in a displacive motion towards the iron interior, due to a local stress induced by the accumulation of iron atoms diffusing around the particle via a short and easy interfacial channel. Our discovery underscores an unusual mass transport mode in solids, in addition to the familiar diffusion of individual atoms.

RESUMO

Aim: The overamplification of human epidermal growth factor (HER2) in breast cancer (BC) has been the subject of numerous research publications since its discovery in 1987. This is the first bibliometric analysis (BA) conducted on HER2-positive (HER2+) BC. The purpose of this BA is to analyze the published research on HER2+ BC from 1987 to 2024, highlighting the most significant scientific literature, as well as the main contributing authors and journals, and evaluating the impact of clinical and lab-based publications on HER2+ BC research. Methods: The Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) was searched using the terms "Breast cancer" OR "Breast carcinoma" OR "Breast tumor" AND "HER2 positive" OR "HER2+". The search was limited by publication year (1987-2024) and only full English articles were included. WoS returned 7,469 relevant results, and from this dataset, a bibliometric analysis was conducted using the "analyze results" and "journal citation report" functions in WoS and the VOSviewer 1.6.16 software to generate bibliographic coupling and co-citation analysis of authors. Results: The analysis encompassed a total of 7,469 publications, revealing a notable increase in the annual number of publications, particularly in recent years. The United States, China, Italy, Germany, and Spain were the top five most prolific countries. The top five significant institutions that published HER2+ research were the University of Texas System, Unicancer, UTMD Anderson Cancer Center, Harvard University, and University of California System. Breast Cancer Research and Treatment, Clinical Cancer Research, and Clinical Breast Cancer were the top three notable journals with the highest number of HER2+ BC publications. Dennis Slamon (Nc = 45,411, H-index = 51) and Jose Baselga (Nc = 32,592, H-index = 55) were the most prolific authors. Evolving research topics include anti-HER2 therapy in the neoadjuvant setting, treatment of metastatic HER2+ BC, and overcoming therapy resistance. Conclusion: This study provides an overview of HER2+ BC research published over the past three decades. It provides insight into the most cited papers and authors, and the core journals, and identifies new trends. These manuscripts have had the highest impact in the field and reflect the continued evolution of HER2 as a therapeutic target in BC.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Cancer, regardless of type, presents a formidable life challenge affecting patients' psychological well-being. Many perceive cancer diagnosis and treatment as traumatic. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to estimate posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) prevalence in Omani adult cancer patients, identify predictors, and probe its correlation with social support. METHODS: This cross-sectional study enrolled 343 adult cancer patients undergoing treatment from 3 hospitals in the Middle East country of Oman. Posttraumatic stress disorder was assessed via the PTSD Checklist for Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, and perceived social support was measured using the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support. RESULTS: The prevalence of PTSD among Omani adult cancer patients was 27.4%. Enhanced social support correlated with lower PTSD risk (odds ratio [OR], 0.95; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.93-0.97; P < .001). Predictors included shorter time since diagnosis (OR, 0.98; 95% CI, 0.97-0.99; P = .017), no psychiatric referral (OR, 0.46; 95% CI, 0.23-0.96; P = .04), and insufficient social support (OR, 0.96; 95% CI, 0.94-0.98; P < .001). CONCLUSIONS: Social support significantly mitigates PTSD risk. Routine assessment and psychiatric referrals, especially for recent diagnoses, can enhance patients' lives. Reevaluating the PTSD diagnostic cutoff score (33) merits consideration for improved clinical use. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: Early PTSD assessment, particularly for low-social support new-diagnosed patients, is crucial for timely intervention. Psychiatric referrals can guide specialized treatments. Stressing social support's role can guide healthcare providers, including oncology nurses, in supporting patients effectively.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Increasing global overweight and obesity rates not only increase the prevalence of myocardial infarction (MI), but also exacerbate ischemic injury and result in worsened prognosis. Currently, there are no drugs that can reverse myocardial damage once MI has occurred, therefore discovering drugs that can potentially limit the extent of ischemic damage to the myocardium is critical. Resveratrol is a polyphenol known for its antioxidant properties, however whether prolonged daily intake of resveratrol during obesity can protect against MI-induced damage remains unexplored. METHODS: We established murine models of obesity via high-fat/high-fructose diet, along with daily administrations of resveratrol or vehicle, then performed surgical MI to examine the effects and mechanisms of resveratrol in protecting against myocardial ischemic injury. RESULTS: Daily administration of resveratrol in obese mice robustly protected against myocardial ischemic injury and improved post-MI cardiac function. Resveratrol strongly inhibited oxidative and DNA damage via activating SIRT3/FOXO3a-dependent antioxidant enzymes following MI, which were completely prevented upon administration of 3-TYP, a selective SIRT3 inhibitor. Hence, the cardioprotective effects of prolonged resveratrol intake in protecting obese mice against myocardial ischemic injury was due to reestablishment of intracellular redox homeostasis through activation of SIRT3/FOXO3a signaling pathway. CONCLUSION: Our findings provide important new evidence that supports the daily intake of resveratrol, especially in those overweight or obese, which can robustly decrease the extent of ischemic damage following MI. Our study therefore provides new mechanistic insight and suggests the therapeutic potential of resveratrol as an invaluable drug in the treatment of ischemic heart diseases.

RESUMO

Background: With an increase in elderly people, it is essential to address the issue of cognitive impairment and support healthy aging. This study aimed to assess cognitive impairment and factors associated with it among older adults. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in different catchment areas within the Jerash governorate in the north of Jordan. The Elderly Cognitive Assessment Questionnaire (ECAQ) and a household face-to-face interview were used to collect data from 220 older adult participants aged 60 years and more. Descriptive statistics were conducted to describe the study variables. Correlation tests were applied to find associations between them. Logistic regression analysis was applied, with a minimum significance level (p < 0.05). Results: About 9.10% of the older adults had cognitive impairment. Cognitive impairment was correlated with age, self-perceived health, hypertension, stroke, and mental illness. The primary predictors of cognitive impairment were age [odds ratio (OR) =1.07 (1.01-1.14), p = 0.001] and stroke [OR = 10.92 (1.44-82.85), p = 0.001]. Conclusions: While many factors were correlated with cognitive impairment, the strongest predictors of cognitive impairment were age and stroke.

RESUMO

Background: Although breakfast skipping among university students is a significant concern, its prevalence and the contributing factors among university students have received little attention in the literature. This study aims to determine the prevalence of skipping breakfast among Jordanian university students and examine the associated factors and variations in rates of skipping breakfast by day of the week. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among undergraduate students between March and May 2022 through a self-questionnaire. A convenience sample of 891 students was chosen at four Jordanian public universities. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The prevalence of skipping breakfast among university students was 66%. The reasons for skipping breakfast were having no time due to oversleeping and having no feeling of hunger (59% for both), followed by having no energy to prepare the breakfast and making no difference (49% and 48%), and not being able to afford to eat or buy breakfast (19%). There is a strong correlation between eating fast food and skipping breakfast. With whom the student eats breakfast is significantly associated with breakfast skipping, revealing that the highest percentages of skipping occur with friends. About 63% of students skipped breakfast through university days compared with 37% on the weekend, while 37% of them had breakfast through university days compared with 67% on the weekend. Conclusions: A high percentage of university students in Jordan skip breakfast. More attention should be paid to correlating factors and developing interventions to help students adhere to the breakfast.
