Jam Quality is a factor robustly influenced by storage conditions. The current research aimed to develop papaya jam with improved nutritional attributes, rheological profile, and shelf-life utilizing date pit powder as a functional ingredient. The effect of date pit powder on the formulated product's physicochemical, microbial, and organoleptic properties was analyzed. Results revealed that overall mineral profile (0.35-1.11%), crude fiber (0.56-2.01%), pH (3.51-3.70%), and antioxidant properties (22.97-30.67%) were significantly increased while water activity reduced (0.77-0.73). Moreover, date pit powder improved the color scores like a*(10.10-10.67), b* (8.13-8.78), L* (25.56-28.09), and textural attributes (Cohesiveness: 0.83-0.90; Firmness: 6.82-6.93) of functional papaya jam. Microbial count reduced from 3.60 × 105-3.06 × 105 cfu/ml by adding date pit powder and staying within the acceptable limit (4.13 × 105-3.60 × 105 cfu/ml) during 2-month storage at refrigeration. Organoleptic evaluation depicted that samples treated with date pit powder scored better than the control, and a sample with 75% pectin replacement was considered best.

Background. Giant cutaneous malignant melanoma (MM) is a term that has previously been used to define lesions that are at least 10 cm in diameter or 48 mm in thickness. Such tumours are rare. There is no substantial body of evidence considering why patients may delay presentation with MM until they reach this size. This case report presents one of the largest cases of giant cutaneous MM to date and the first in the literature to show excellent response to adjuvant immunotherapy. The patient was treated successfully and remains alive and well 12 months following initial surgery. A review of the literature discussing giant MM identified a significant need for education on the importance of seeking medical attention in order to prevent advanced disease, especially for vulnerable individuals.

Drought stress is one of the extreme effects of climate change causing large losses in production of crop plants. The risk of recurrent droughts has increased in next decades hence, the development of shot-gun, inexpensive and effective approaches is essential to ensure high yield of crops in drought-prone areas of the world. Exogenous application of nutrients such as potassium (K) has been reported to increase abiotic resistance and improve yield in crops however, knowledge regarding interaction of K with osmoprotectants like chitosan (Ct) still remains elusive. Here, we report the effects of individual or combined K (using K2SO4 as a source) or Ct application on growth, physiological processes and antioxidative defense system of sunflower under drought stress. At first, various doses of K (0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 g/l) and Ct (0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 g/l) were foliar applied to evaluate their role in improving plant biomass, water status and total chlorophyll in drought-induced seedlings of sunflower. The optimized K (11.48 g/l) and Ct (0.28 g/l) doses were further tested in second experiment to understand the underlying mechanisms of drought tolerance. Foliar K + Ct spray markedly enhanced the leaf gas exchange characteristics, increased proline, soluble proteins, and free amino acids, upregulated antioxidant defense system and helped to maintain plant water status in sunflower exposed to drought stress. The impact of drought stress was more pronounced at vegetative than reproductive stage and positive effects of combined K and Ct application were related to improved physiological and metabolic processes to improve yield and quality of sunflower under drought stress.
