RESUMO

Nondestructive testing and evaluation of composite insulating components of electrical equipment is extremely necessary for assuring the safety of a power system. However, most existing nondestructive testing methods are not applicable for fast and effective live detection due to their time-consuming operation, high cost, and contact or near-field measurement. In this work, the effectiveness of active infrared thermography was investigated for detecting defects in silicone rubber (SIR)-fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) bonding structures, which have been commonly used in insulating components of power equipment. The effectiveness of differential thermal image for enhancing the contrast of defective and sound areas and eliminating additive noise was demonstrated. Particularly, frame difference thermal image obtained by subtracting two differential thermal images extracting from respectively before and after the contrast inversion was proposed to enhance defect identification. The results revealed that defects of various sizes and depths such as voids, cracks, and interface disbonding of the SIR-FRP bonding structure were accurately detected by thermographic data. With the advantages of a quick and simple process, safety, universal applicability, visual results, far-field measurement, and quantitative defect estimation capabilities, active infrared thermography would be quite promising for live detection of electrical equipment.

RESUMO

The migration of low-molecular-weight components of polysiloxane (small molecules) to the surface of high-temperature-vulcanizing silicone rubber (HTV-SR) ensures its hydrophobicity and tends to coat the surface of pollutants, which would otherwise lower hydrophobicity. The transferability of hydrophobicity will ensure the insulator maintains its higher hydrophobicity after being coated with surface pollutants, thus providing the insulator with higher pollution flashover voltage. This migration process takes a certain time, and in this paper, the time characteristics of hydrophobicity transfer from HTV-SR coated with ten different inert materials were investigated. Ten different inert materials have different migration times and static contact angles, possibly due to the influence of pollution material characteristics on the characteristics of small-molecule migration. Thermogravimetric analysis (TG), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) were used to analyze the migration of small molecules to the polluted surface. The evidence of small molecules migrating to the surface of the polluted material over time was found. Furthermore, the influence of pollution material characteristics on small-molecule migration was analyzed via SEM, specific surface area, and porosity. On that basis, the hydrophobicity migration characteristics of mixtures of kaolin and kieselguhr were also studied and compared to determine how best to simulate the behavior of natural pollution using artificial pollutants and their mixtures.

RESUMO

Polymers are used widely in the power system as insulating materials and are essential to the power grid's security and stability. However, various insulation defects may occur in the polymer., which can lead to severe insulation accidents. Terahertz (THz) detection is a novel non-destructive testing (NDT) method that is able to detect the interface structures inside polymers. The large quantity of information in the THz waveform has potential for the identification of interface types, and the long short-term memory (LSTM) network is one of the most popular artificial intelligence methods for time series data like THz waveform. In this paper, the LSTM classification network was used to identify the internal interfaces of the polymer with the reflected THz pulses of the internal interfaces. The experiment verified that it is feasible to identify and image the void interfaces and impurity interfaces in the polymer using the proposed method.

RESUMO

The flashover along the insulator endangers the reliable operation of the electrical power system. The reasonable curved profiles of the shed could improve the flashover voltage, which would reduce power system outages. The research on the influence of the curved profiles of the shed on the streamer propagation along the insulator made of polymer was presented in the paper. The streamer propagation "stability" field, path, and velocity affected by the curved profiles of the shed, were measured by ultraviolet camera, ICCD camera, and photomultipliers. The "surface" component of the streamer is stopped at the shed with the different curved profiles, while the "air" component could go round the shed and reach the cathode. The streamer propagation "stability" fields are inversely proportional to the curved profiles of the shed. The streamer propagation velocities are proportional to the curved profiles of the shed. The relationship between the streamer propagation and the flashover propagation was discussed in depth. The subsequent flashover propagation is greatly affected by the streamer propagation path and "stability" field. Furthermore, the influence of the material properties on the streamer propagation path was also discussed in depth.

RESUMO

A pollution flashover along an insulation surface-a catastrophic accident in electrical power system-threatens the safe and reliable operation of a power grid. Silicone rubber coatings are applied to the surfaces of other insulation materials in order to improve the pollution flashover voltage of the insulation structure. It is generally believed that the hydrophobicity of the silicone rubber coating is key to blocking the physical process of pollution flashover, which prevents the formation of continuously wet pollution areas. However, it is unclear whether silicone rubber coating can suppress the generation of pre-discharges such as corona discharge and streamer discharge. In this research, the influence of silicone rubber coating on the characteristics of surface streamer discharge was researched in-depth. The streamer 'stability' propagation fields of the polymer are lower than that of the polymer with silicone rubber coating. The velocities of the streamer propagation along the polymer are higher than those along the polymer with silicone rubber coating. This indicates that the surface properties of the polymer with the silicone rubber coating are less favorable for streamer propagation than those of the polymer.

RESUMO

In order to provide a safe and stable power supply for low-power online monitoring sensors of transmission lines, a method of harvesting space electric field energy by using the impedance conversion characteristics of the transformer and the reactive compensation characteristics of the capacitor is proposed. The method effectively solves the key problem that the power of energy harvesting based on electric field induction is limited by the transformer excitation reactance and is difficult to upgrade. In this paper, the principle of power supply technology based on electric field induction is described in detail, and the influencing factors such as the wire erection mode, polar plate installation position, and capacitance compensation characteristics are simulated and tested. The test results show that when the power supply voltage is 50 kV, the stray capacitance is 14 pF, the compensation capacitance is 0.86 nF, and the load resistance is 1 kΩ, the energy-harvesting power is 340 mW. Finally, the power supply circuit of a drive-away-birds apparatus is designed, which shows that it can provide a stable and reliable power supply for online monitoring sensors.

RESUMO

An improved current sensor aimed at measuring currents of different parts in composite insulator samples was proposed. Conventional current sensors used in water diffusion tests aim to examine the performance of composite insulators, however, it is difficult for the conventional current sensors to locate the defects. Thus, we designed a new electrode structure to measure the currents of different components in short samples of composite insulators. Based on a finite analysis method, the influence of relative permittivity and conductivity on the current was analyzed. New samples with different interfaces and samples after operation were tested using the new and conventional current sensors. The performance of a certain part in short samples can be diagnosed by analyzing the current and phase information extracted from the test results. By comparing the test results of new and traditional current sensors, it was proved that the new electrode structure is more effective in locating the defects of insulators.

RESUMO

An atmospheric corrosion monitor (ACM) is an instrument used to track the corrosion status of materials. In this paper, a galvanic cell sensor with a simple structure, flexible parameters, and low cost was proposed for constructing a novel ACM, which consisted of three layers: the upper layer was gold, used as the cathode; the lower layer was corroded metal, used as the anode; and the middle layer was epoxy resin, used to separate the cathode and anode. Typically, the anode and epoxy resin were hollowed out, and the hollow parts were filled with electrolyte when it was wet to form a corrosive galvanic cell. Specifically, the corrosion rate was obtained by measuring the short circuit current of the cell. The sensor was made of a printed circuit board (PCB) or flexible printed circuit (FPC) and a metal coupon, which allowed for early control of the electrical parameters (including sensitivity and capacity) and could be combined with various metals. Additionally, the sensor feasibility was studied in water droplet experiments, during which the corrosive current changed with the electrolyte evaporation. The sensor practicability was also verified in a salt spray test, and the electric charge was compared using the thickness loss of bare coupons. A contrast test was also conducted for the corrosivity of different sensors made of aluminum, iron and copper.
