RESUMO

Background: By modifying the lifestyle of patients, the risk factors of Coronary Artery Diseases (CADs) are adjusted. This study was performed with the aim to investigate the role of nurses in the lifestyle of coronary artery patients. Materials and Methods: This scoping review was conducted with the question of the role of nurses in improving the lifestyle of coronary artery patients. This study was conducted in databases and search engines of ScienceDirect, Springer, Scopus, PubMed, MEDLINE, and Google Scholar for English texts, and in the Magiran and Scientific Information Database (SID) databases and search engines for the texts printed in Persian. The search for articles printed from 2012 to 2022 was conducted based on the keywords used in the title and abstract of the articles. The keywords used to search domestic databases included nursing, lifestyle and healthy lifestyle, and heart diseases (based on MeSH). Results: Nurses have made significant efforts and performed interventions to improve the lifestyle of coronary artery patients through guidance and education regarding the improvement of their diet and mobility, compliance with their treatment regimen, and reduction of the risk factors of CAD. In the psychological dimension, they had a positive effect in some fields such as stress management and mental health. However, in the spiritual dimension, effective studies and interventions have not been conducted by nurses. Conclusions: The role of nurses in the lifestyle of coronary artery patients is effective in the physical dimension, limited in the psychological dimension, and neglected in the spiritual dimension.

RESUMO

Background: In order to achieve the major goals of transformation in the health care system, organizing and developing the existing potential properly play a pivotal role. The objective is to conduct a scoping review to describe available extent of literatures about scattered structure, process, and outcome factors of the clinical specialist nurse and redesign those as three cohesive and interconnected factors. Materials and Methods: A scoping review of studies was conducted from 1970 to June 20, 2020, focusing on the structure, process, and outcome factors of the clinical specialist nurse from six databases. Results: Forty-six studies were carried out. Structure (individual characteristics, intra-organizational, and governance factors), process (professional interactions, and roles and duties of a specialist nurse), and outcome (patient and family, nurse, and organizational outcomes) factors were identified. Conclusions: With the correct knowledge of the factors, it is possible to achieve the desired therapeutic, organizational, and professional results of nursing by providing the necessary fields in the structure, process, and outcomes. The identification of structures, processes, and outcomes that influence clinical nurse's role implementation may inform strategies used by providers and decision makers to optimize these roles across healthcare settings and guarantee the delivery of high-quality care.

RESUMO

Role modeling is one of the most influential components of teaching professional behaviors to nursing students. The Role Model Apperception Tool (RoMAT) was designed in the Netherlands to measure role modeling behaviors in clinical educators. The aim of this study was assess the psychometrics of the Persian version of this tool. In a methodological study, the Persian version of the RoMAT tool was developed using the forward-backward translation method. Face validity was confirmed through cognitive interviews, and content validity was done by a panel of 12 experts. Construct validity was assessed through exploratory factor analysis (n = 200), and confirmatory factor analysis (n = 142) was evaluated after the tool was completed online by undergraduate nursing students. Reliability was confirmed using internal consistency and test and retest methods. Furthermore, ceiling and floor effects were assessed. The two components of "professional competencies" and "leadership competencies" emerged with a cumulative variance of 62.01%, a reliability with Cronbach's alpha of 0.93 and 0.83, and an intraclass correlation of 0.9 and 0.78, respectively. It was concluded that the Persian version of the Role Model Apperception Tool is a valid and reliable tool and can be used to investigate the role modeling behaviors of clinical instructors of nursing students.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Applying the principles and skills of management, including planning, organising and leadership skills, will greatly help to improve the quality of nursing manager duties. This is even more important during crisis management, such as the COVID-19 crisis. The objective of the present study was to express the experiences of nursing managers in the COVID-19 crisis. METHODS: A qualitative conventional content analysis approach was used to discover the nursing leadership style in the COVID-19 crisis. The present study was conducted in one hospital in Tehran, Iran. 20 Iranian nursing managers in all nursing management positions such as head nurse, matron and supervisor were interviewed. Semi-structured interview was conducted at one hospital in Iran, using reflective and open-ended questions. Interviews were audio recorded and transcribed. The study was carried out in 2020 while data saturation occurred, no new categories or codes have emerged and the study questions were answered. Credibility and conformability were established through member checking. The report of the analysis was returned to the participants in order to get the assurance that the researchers had portrayed their real world in codes and extracted categories. RESULTS: Four main themes emerged from data analysis including 'managers as role model', 'full responsiveness', 'being in constant challenge' and 'post disaster growth'. CONCLUSION: Nursing management is one of the activities that the manager must be constantly aware of the activities of his subset. This requires a constant presence in the workplace and communication with nursing staff. Also, in times of crisis, the manager, in addition to having scientific ability, must also have sufficient experience. These two factors will lead to crisis management. Also, training staff and managers in crisis management is one of the most important issues in nursing management.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: The emergence of mobile instant messaging (MIM) based virtual communities of practice (VCoPs) has provided new opportunities for nurses to share their knowledge and promote collaborative learning. This study was conducted with the aim of exploring the factors influencing nurses' participation in knowledge-sharing within MIM-based VCoPs. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This is a qualitative study conducted in Tehran, Iran, between April 2017 and July 2018. The participants were 18 nurses that selected through purposeful sampling technique; then, in-depth and semi-structured interviews were conducted with them. Data was analyzed using conventional content analysis based on Graneheim and Lundman (2004). Accordingly, all interviews were transcribed and read several times; then, meaning units were identified from the transcribed text based on the aim of the study and codes were extracted from them. Finally, the codes were classified into categories and themes. RESULTS: A total of 26 sub-categories, seven categories, and two themes were extracted. Motivations for nurses' participating in knowledge-sharing activities within MIM-based VCoPs included the theme "Stimuli for professional interactions" with three categories: "The individual drives", "Attractive interactive environment", and "User-friendly media". On the other hand, participation barriers included the theme "Impediments for professional interactions" with four categories of "Individual hindrances", "Social harm", "Unprofessional interactive environment" and "Undesirable media". CONCLUSION: The findings of this exploratory study indicated that individual, social and technological factors as well as factors associated with the virtual-community interactive environment could influence nurses' participation in knowledge-sharing within MIM-based VcoPs as motivations and barriers. The insights obtained from this study can be a guide for administrators and educators in the nursing profession to facilitate and enhance nurses' participation in knowledge-sharing within MIM-based VCoPs by strengthening motivations and minimizing barriers.

RESUMO

Background: Despite the importance of emotional growth promotion among students, there is still a lack of standard emotional growth tools to evaluate the concept while developing interventional programs. The aim of present study was to devise and provide a valid and reliable instrument for measuring students' emotional growth. Methods: This study was conducted from 2016 to 2017 among university students. A questionnaire containing 79 items was made using focus group discussions with students and studying relevant texts. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) (n = 188) was used to determine the construct validity of the questionnaire. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) (n = 38) was performed to assess the validity of the model. Reliability (n = 56) and repeatability (n = 31) of the questionnaire were assessed. Results: A 4-factor (positive identity, self-esteem, effective communication and motivation)and 21-item solution was found as the best solution, which explained 63.5% of total variancebetween the items. The results of CFA approved the validity of the model (CFI = 0.914, RMSEA= 0.070). Cronbach alpha (0.93) and Intra class correlation coefficient (0.91) approved the reliability and repeatability of questionnaire. Conclusion: The 21 items questionnaire seems to be a valid and reliable instrument to measure emotional growth among university students.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: One of the processes leading to education and evaluation promotion in nursing is mentoring. Moreover, using a portfolio leads to promotion of the mentoring process. Due to the importance of mentoring in nursing, its strengthening by the portfolio, the weakness of mentoring in nursing, and the lack of widespread use of portfolio in nursing education, the aim of this study was to determine portfolio content, which can help the mentoring performance. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The present scoping review study was conducted in 2017. Articles were searched using the keywords portfolio, mentoring, nursing education, logbook, teaching, learning, nursing, education, and evaluation. The search was conducted in SID, IranMedex, IranDoc, Magiran, PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, Web of Science, and ScienceDirect databases. Studies published in Persian and English from 1997 to 2017 were reviewed. The studies were extracted based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. RESULTS: Of the 1070 articles searched, 6 were extracted for the final assessment. The results indicated that a portfolio consists of a title page, content list, introduction, record of experience, mentor's feedback and comments, self-evaluation, and educational activities. Furthermore, nursing process is required to help conduct mentoring among nursing students. CONCLUSIONS: Recording experiences, feedback, etc., in the portfolios of nursing students can be helpful in conducting mentoring for student's education. It is suggested that educational managers perform mentoring in educational environments using the contents suggested in this study.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Human dignity, as a fundamental human right and a moral obligation, has been emphasized in different fields of nursing. The aim of the present integrative review was to explore the nature of nurses' human dignity in educational and clinical settings. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A literature review was conducted on quantitative and qualitative research papers in English and Persian using the PubMed, ProQuest, Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Google Scholar, SID, and Irandoc databases from the year 2000 to 2013. Keywords for the search included dignity, nursing, faculty, nurse clinicians, nursing student, and humanism. In total, 12 research papers met the inclusion criteria for the integrative review. RESULTS: From this review, four key themes emerged. The themes consisted of concept of human dignity (it was as an expression of the professional value in nursing settings), factors affecting human dignity (including respect, communication, autonomy and power, competency and ability, structure of the workplace, and value-based education), dimensions of human dignity (including intrinsic and professional domains), and consequences of human dignity [positive (individual and professional growth and caring professional behavior) and negative (loss of motivation, intention to leave the profession, and non-professional image of nursing in the minds of people)]. CONCLUSIONS: The small number of studies found for the review indicates the need for further research in the field of nurses' dignity. Recognizing nurses' dignity can help to improve the nursing practice and provide them a dignified workplace.

RESUMO

One of the key strategies in students' learning is being affected by models. Understanding the role-modeling process in education will help to make greater use of this training strategy. The aim of this grounded theory study was to explore Iranian nursing students and instructors' experiences about role modeling process. Data was analyzed by Glaserian's Grounded Theory methodology through semi-structured interviews with 7 faculty members, 2 nursing students; the three focus group discussions with 20 nursing students based on purposive and theoretical sampling was done for explaining role modeling process from four nursing faculties in Tehran. Through basic coding, an effort to comprehensive growth and excellence was made with the basic social process consisting the core category and through selective coding three phases were identified as: realizing and exposure to inadequate human and professional growth, facilitating human and professional growth and evolution. The role modeling process is taking place unconscious, involuntary, dynamic and with positive progressive process in order to facilitate overall growth in nursing student. Accordingly, the design and implementation of the designed model can be used to make this unconscious to conscious, active and voluntarily processes a process to help education administrators of nursing colleges and supra organization to prevent threats to human and professional in nursing students' education and promote nursing students' growth.
