RESUMO

Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) is characterized by the presence of glutamate decarboxylase autoantibodies (GADA). LADA has intermediate features between type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. In addition, genetic risk factors for both types of diabetes are present in LADA. Nonetheless, evidence about the genetics of LADA in non-European populations is scarce. This study aims to perform a genome-wide association study with a phenome-wide association study of LADA in a southeastern Mexican population. We included 59 patients diagnosed with LADA from a previous study and 3121 individuals without diabetes from the MxGDAR/ENCODAT database. We utilized the GENESIS package in R to perform the genome-wide association study (GWAS) of LADA and PLINK for the phenome-wide association study (PheWAS) of LADA features. Nine polymorphisms reach the nominal association level (1 × 10-5) in the GWAS. The PheWAS showed that rs7305229 is genome-wide and associated with serum GADA levels in our sample (p = 1.84 × 10-8). rs7305229 is located downstream of the FAIM2 gene; previous reports associate FAIM2 variants with childhood obesity, body mass index, body adiposity measures, lymphocyte CD8+ activity, and anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies. Our findings reveal that rs7305229 affects the GADA levels in patients with LADA from southeastern Mexico. More studies are needed to determine if this risk genotype exists in other populations with LADA.

RESUMO

Salmonella enterica is a globally disseminated pathogen that is the cause of over 100 million infections per year. The resulting diseases are dependent upon host susceptibility and the infecting serovar. As S. enterica serovar Typhimurium induces a typhoid-like disease in mice, this model has been used extensively to illuminate various aspects of Salmonella infection and host responses. Due to the severity of infection in this model, researchers often use strains of mice resistant to infection or attenuated Salmonella. Despite decades of research, many aspects of Salmonella infection and fundamental biology remain poorly understood. Here, we use a transposon insertion sequencing technique to interrogate the essential genomes of widely used isogenic wild-type and attenuated S. Typhimurium strains. We reveal differential essential pathways between strains in vitro and provide a direct link between iron starvation, DNA synthesis, and bacterial membrane integrity.IMPORTANCESalmonella enterica is an important clinical pathogen that causes a high number of deaths and is increasingly resistant to antibiotics. Importantly, S. enterica is used widely as a model to understand host responses to infection. Understanding how Salmonella survives in vivo is important for the design of new vaccines to combat this pathogen. Live attenuated vaccines have been used clinically for decades. A widely used mutation, aroA, is thought to attenuate Salmonella by restricting the ability of the bacterium to access particular amino acids. Here we show that this mutation limits the ability of Salmonella to acquire iron. These observations have implications for the interpretation of many previous studies and for the use of aroA in vaccine development.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The molecular system of receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-ß (RANK) and its ligand (RANKL) plays a role in a variety of physiological and pathological processes. These encompass the regulation of bone metabolism, mammary gland development, immune function, as well as their involvement and tumorigenesis. Nevertheless, limited knowledge exists regarding their function within the tumor microenvironment. METHODS AND RESULTS: We explored the significance of RANK expression in cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) as a prognostic biomarker in early breast cancer patients (BCPs) by immunohistochemistry. Results reveal a significant correlation between high RANK expression in CAFs and an increased risk of metastasis (p= 0.006), shorter metastasis-free survival (MFS) [p= 0.007, OR (95%CI) = 2.290 (1.259-4.156)], and lower overall survival (OS) [p= 0.004, OR (95%CI) = 2.469 (1.343-4.541)]. Upon analyzing the phenotype of CD34(-) CAFs isolated from primary tumors in BCPs, we observed co-expression of RANK with CD105 marker by immunofluorescence and flow cytometry, characteristic of mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs), suggesting the possible cellular origin. Also RANKL-RANK system increase the OCT-4, SOX-2 and DKK-1 (dickkopf 1) gene expression in CD34(-) CAFs by RT-PCR. Moreover, this system plays a crucial role in the migration of these CD34(-) CAFs. CONCLUSIONS: These results support the clinical relevance of RANK in CAFs and propose its potential as a future therapeutic target in the treatment of early BCPs.

RESUMO

Freezing-thawing procedures and semen manipulation for in vitro fertilization induce oxidative stress, which in turn leads to impaired sperm quality. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether incubation of frozen-thawed buffalo semen with olive fruit extracts (OFE), known to contain a high concentration of phenolic antioxidants, would improve semen quality by reducing oxidative stress. Frozen sperm (4 ejaculates/4 bulls/3 replicates) were thawed and diluted to 30 × 106/mL in IVF medium with 0, 72, 143, and 214 µL/mL of OFE, corresponding to 0 (D0-control), 50 (D50), 100 (D100), and 150 (D150) µM hydroxytyrosol. Sperm viability, acrosome integrity, membrane functionality, motility, and sperm kinetics were evaluated immediately after thawing (T0) and after 1 (T1) and 2 h (T2) of incubation at 38.7 °C. Based on the results, sperm biological antioxidant potential (BAP) and ROS levels (ROMs) were assessed in D0 and D100 groups at T1 and T2. To assess the effect of OFE on fertilizing ability, heterologous penetration rates were also evaluated, using bovine abattoir-derived oocytes. The treatment with OFE at all concentrations tested increased (P < 0.05) the percentage of acrosome intact spermatozoa compared to the D0-control at T1, but the effect was more evident (P < 0.01) with D100 (54.5 ± 3.0, 60.5 ± 1.5, 65.2 ± 3.3, and 62.5 ± 1.7, with D0, D50, D100, and D150 OFE, respectively). Total motility, progressive motility, rapid velocity, and progressive velocity decreased (P < 0.05) at T2 only in the D0-control group. The percentage of rapidly progressive sperm and the progressive motility tended to increase (P < 0.10) at T1 and T2, respectively, in D100 compared to D0 (24.7 ± 4.1 vs 16.4 ± 1.6 and 22.8 ± 2.7 vs 17.0 ± 1.2, respectively). The treatment with D100 OFE of frozen-thawed sperm increased (P < 0.05) some kinetic parameters (VAP and WOB). Spermatozoa incubated with D100 OFE exhibited higher (P < 0.01) total and normospermic oocyte penetration rates compared to D0 (86.5 ± 1.4 vs 78.5 ± 0.7, and 70.6 ± 1.5 vs 63.8 ± 1.1, respectively). Additionally, D100 OFE increased sperm BAP concentrations at both T1 and T2, while ROS levels were unaffected. These results suggest that incubating frozen-thawed buffalo semen with OFE is an effective strategy for preserving semen quality and in vitro fertilization ability by enhancing sperm antioxidant capacity.

(provided by Infomedic Intl.)

Introduction: Takayasu's arteritis (TAK) is an idiopathic granulomatous large vessel disease predominantly affecting the aorta, main arterial branches and pulmonary arteries. The prevalence is higher in adults than in children, with an incidence of 1.1 per million people. Its etiology remains poorly understood. Case Report: We present the case of a pediatric patient with loss of left renal mass due to decreased ipsilateral renal artery caliber months after the debut of Takayasu's arteritis as abdominal aortic aneurysm. The patient meets TAK criteria according to EULAR/PRINTO/PReS classification based on angiographic abnormality, arterial hypertension and elevated acute phase reactants. TAK presents systemic involvement and cardiovascular alterations (75-85%), hypertension in more than 80% of cases, with renal artery stenosis in almost 50% of patients. Conclusions: The general treatment of TAK is aimed at controlling vascular inflammation and preventing irreversible organ damage. Despite early diagnosis with timely and aggressive treatment, follow-up in Takayasu's disease is imperative as progression may still occur. Strategies should be established to ensure adherence to follow-up. (provided by Infomedic Intl.)

RESUMO

This study investigated the novel application of Fe-TiO2-allophane catalysts with 6.0 % w/w of iron oxide and two TiO2 proportions (10 % and 30 % w/w) for degrading atrazine (ATZ) using the heterogeneous dual-effect (HDE) process under sunlight. Comparative analyses with Fe-allophane and TiO2-allophane catalysts were conducted in both photocatalysis (PC) and HDE processes. FTIR spectra reveal the unique hydrous feldspathoids structure of allophane, showing evidence of new bond formation between Si-O groups of allophane clays and iron hydroxyl species, as well as Si-O-Ti bonds that intensified with higher TiO2 content. The catalysts exhibited an anatase structure. In Fe-TiO2-allophane catalysts, iron oxide was incorporated through the substitution of Ti4+ by Fe3+ in the anatase crystal lattice and precipitation on the surface of allophane clays, forming small iron oxide particles. Allophane clays reduced the agglomeration and particle size of TiO2, resulting in an enhanced specific surface area and pore volume for all catalysts. Iron oxide incorporation decreased the band gap, broadening the photoresponse to visible light. In the PC process, TiO2-allophane achieves 90 % ATZ degradation, attributed to radical species from the UV component of sunlight. In the HDE process, Fe-TiO2-allophane catalysts exhibit synergistic effects, particularly with 30 % w/w TiO2, achieving 100 % ATZ degradation and 85 % COD removal, with shorter reaction time as TiO2 percentage increased. The HDE process was performed under less acidic conditions, achieving complete ATZ degradation after 6 h without iron leaching. Consequently, Fe-TiO2-allophane catalysts are proposed as a promising alternative for degrading emerging pollutants under environmentally friendly conditions.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Bioethical dilemmas at the end of life have led to regularization processes for the provision of medical assistance in dying patients in different countries. Since the regulation of euthanasia in Spain in 2021, the euthanasia act has been included as one of the benefits of the health system, which has undergone uneven development and implementation in different autonomous communities. The aim of this study was to review the Spanish version of the Euthanasia Attitude Scale following the partial modification of four items. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted with a non-probabilistic sample of Spanish health workers from Islas Baleares. A self-reported sociodemographic questionnaire and the Euthanasia Attitude Scale were used for data collection. The psychometric properties of the scale were assessed, including reliability and validity, using a confirmatory factor analysis and a parallel analysis. RESULTS: The Cronbach's alpha of the EAS was α = 0.892, which implies good internal consistency. According to the confirmatory factor analysis, a Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin-value of 0.938 was obtained, and the result of Bartlett's test of sphericity was < 0.001. The questionnaire included four loading factors, which explained up to 56.99% of the variance. The parallel analysis revealed three significant factors and a fourth, less interpretative factor. CONCLUSIONS: The EAS-ES-R is a valid instrument for assessing the attitudes toward euthanasia of both trainees and practicing health professionals. It may also be of vital importance in detecting training, support and implementation needs for laws regulating euthanasia in Spain.

RESUMO

Accurate classification of genetic variants is crucial for clinical decision-making in hereditary cancer. In Spain, genetic diagnostic laboratories have traditionally approached this task independently due to the lack of a dedicated resource. Here we present SpadaHC, a web-based database for sharing variants in hereditary cancer genes in the Spanish population. SpadaHC is implemented using a three-tier architecture consisting of a relational database, a web tool and a bioinformatics pipeline. Contributing laboratories can share variant classifications and variants from individuals in Variant Calling Format (VCF) format. The platform supports open and restricted access, flexible dataset submissions, automatic pseudo-anonymization, VCF quality control, variant normalization and liftover between genome builds. Users can flexibly explore and search data, receive automatic discrepancy notifications and access SpadaHC population frequencies based on many criteria. In February 2024, SpadaHC included 18 laboratory members, storing 1.17 million variants from 4306 patients and 16 343 laboratory classifications. In the first analysis of the shared data, we identified 84 genetic variants with clinically relevant discrepancies in their classifications and addressed them through a three-phase resolution strategy. This work highlights the importance of data sharing to promote consistency in variant classifications among laboratories, so patients and family members can benefit from more accurate clinical management. RESUMO

The search for chemical indicators of life is a fundamental component of potential future spaceflight missions to ocean worlds. Capillary electrophoresis (CE) is a useful separation method for the determination of the small organic molecules, such as amino acids and nucleobases, that could be used to help determine whether or not life is present in a sample collected during such missions. CE is under development for spaceflight applications using multiple detection systems, such as laser induced fluorescence (LIF) and mass spectrometry (MS). Here we report CE-based methods for separation and detection of major polar metabolites in cells, such as amino acids, nucleobases/sides, and oxidized and reduced glutathione using detectors that are less expensive alternatives to LIF and MS. Direct UV detection, indirect UV detection, and capacitvely coupled contactless conductivity detection (C4D) were tested with CE, and a combination of direct UV and C4D allowed the detection of the widest variety of metabolites. The optimized method was used to profile metabolites found in samples of Escherichia coli and Pseudoalteromonas haloplanktis and showed distinct differences between the species.

RESUMO

The present study examines indoor air pollution in health facilities, focusing on compounds from various sources, such as industrial products, healthcare activities and building materials. It assesses chemical and microbiological concentrations in two public hospitals, two public healthcare centres, and one public health laboratory in Spain. Measurements included indoor air quality, microbiological contaminants, ambient parameters and non-target analysis across ten different locations. Outdoor air quality was also assessed in the surroundings of the hospitals. The results showed that around 350 substances were tentatively identified at a high confidence level, with over 50 % of compounds classified as of high toxicological risk. Three indoor and 26 outdoor compounds were fully confirmed with standards. These confirmed substances were linked to medical, industrial and agricultural activities. Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) results revealed that CO, CO2, formaldehyde (HCHO), O3 and total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs) showed average values above the recommended guideline levels in at least one of the evaluated locations. Moreover, maximum concentrations detected for CO, HCHO, O3 and TVOCs in hospitals surpassed those previously reported in the literature. SARS-CoV-2 was detected in three air environments, corresponding to COVID-19 patient areas. Fungi and bacteria concentrations were acceptable in all assessed locations, identifying different fungi genera, such as Penicillium, Cladosporium, Aspergillus, Alternaria and Botrytis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Subscapularis repair has recently garnered significant interest. A thorough understanding of the tendon's anatomy is essential for precise and safe repair. Our objectives were to describe the anatomy of the subscapularis insertion, define its landmarks, and analyze nearby structures to guide arthroscopic repair. METHODS: We conducted an anatomical study, dissecting 12 shoulders. We evaluated the distance from the footprint to the axillary nerve, the dimensions, and shape of the footprint, and its relationship with the humeral cartilage. RESULTS: The distance to the axillary nerve was 32 mm (standard deviation [SD], 3.7 mm). The craniocaudal length of the footprint was 37.3 mm (SD, 4.6 mm). Its largest mediolateral thickness was 16 mm (SD, 2.2 mm), wider at the top and narrower distally. The distance between the footprint and the cartilage varied, being 3.2 mm (SD, 1.2 mm) in the upper part, 5.4 mm (SD, 1.8 mm) in the medium, and 15.9 mm (SD, 2.9 mm) in the lower part. CONCLUSIONS: When performing a repair of the subscapularis tendon, the distance to the cartilage should be carefully evaluated as it varies proximally to distally, and the shape of the footprint (wider proximally, tapered distally) should be considered for implant positioning. The distance to the axillary nerve is approximately 30 mm. Anterior visualization guarantees direct control of all landmarks and allows accurate implant positioning with safe tendon release. Level of evidence: IV.

RESUMO

Contemporary research on the genomics of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) often underrepresents admixed populations of diverse genomic ancestries, such as Latin Americans. This study explores the relationship between admixture and genetic associations for ADHD in Colombian and Mexican cohorts. Some 546 participants in two groups, ADHD and Control, were genotyped with Infinium PsychArray®. Global ancestry levels were estimated using overall admixture proportions and principal component analysis, while local ancestry was determined using a method to estimate ancestral components along the genome. Genome-wide association analysis (GWAS) was conducted to identify significant associations. Differences between Colombia and Mexico were evaluated using appropriate statistical tests. 354 Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and Single-nucleotide variants (SNVs) related to some genes and intergenic regions exhibited suggestive significance (p-value < 5*10e-5) in the GWAS. None of the variants revealed genome-wide significance (p-value < 5*10e-8). The study identified a significant relationship between risk SNPs and the European component of admixture, notably observed in the LOC105379109 gene. Despite differences in risk association loci, such as FOXP2, our findings suggest a possible homogeneity in genetic variation's impact on ADHD between Colombian and Mexican populations. Current reference datasets for ADHD predominantly consist of samples with high European ancestry, underscoring the need for further research to enhance the representation of reference populations and improve the identification of ADHD risk traits in Latin Americans.

RESUMO

Despite being one of the most abundant elements in soil, phosphorus (P) often becomes a limiting macronutrient for plants due to its low bioavailability, primarily locked away in insoluble organic and inorganic forms. Phosphate solubilizing and mineralizing bacteria, also called phosphobacteria, isolated from P-deficient soils have emerged as a promising biofertilizer alternative, capable of converting these recalcitrant P forms into plant-available phosphates. Three such phosphobacteria strains-Serratia sp. RJAL6, Klebsiella sp. RCJ4, and Enterobacter sp. 198-previously demonstrated their particular strength as plant growth promoters for wheat, ryegrass, or avocado under abiotic stresses and P deficiency. Comparative genomic analysis of their draft genomes revealed several genes encoding key functionalities, including alkaline phosphatases, isonitrile secondary metabolites, enterobactin biosynthesis and genes associated to the production of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and gluconic acid. Moreover, overall genome relatedness indexes (OGRIs) revealed substantial divergence between Serratia sp. RJAL6 and its closest phylogenetic neighbours, Serratia nematodiphila and Serratia bockelmanii. This compelling evidence suggests that RJAL6 merits classification as a novel species. This in silico genomic analysis provides vital insights into the plant growth-promoting capabilities and provenance of these promising PSRB strains. Notably, it paves the way for further characterization and potential application of the newly identified Serratia species as a powerful bioinoculant in future agricultural settings.

RESUMO

In pediatrics, a process called Pediatric Inflammatory Multisystem Syndrome (PIMS) associated with recent infection by SARS-CoV-2 virus has been observed. One of its variants presents similarities with Kawasaki disease (KD). OBJECTIVE: to compare the clinical presentation, laboratory testing, and evolution of KD with PIMS Kawasaki phenotype (PIMS-KD) in patients hospitalized before the pandemic, compared with the pandemic period. PATIENTS AND METHOD: Cross-sectional study in two groups of patients at the Hospital Exequiel González Cortés: typical KD (group 1) and PIMS-KD (group 2). Data on demographic, clinical, and biochemical details were collected, as well as echocardiogram, treatment, and evolution records. IgG and IgM serology for SARS-CoV-2 was performed in both groups. RESULTS: In the KD group and the PIMS-KD group, 20 and 33 patients were analyzed, respectively. There were differences in age, days of fever, count of leukocytes, lymphocytes, and platelets, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and hospital stay. In 25% of the KD group, there were alterations in the echocardiogram and, in the PIMS-K group, all patients received corticosteroids and 25 patients received intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG). In both groups, a favorable clinical evolution was observed, characterized by the absence of complications and mortality. CONCLUSIONS: Based on the data obtained in our study, the importance of the epidemiological link is emphasized as an essential factor in differentiating between both pathologies, highlighting the need to consider factors such as age, duration of fever, count of leukocytes, lymphocytes, and platelets, and degree of cardiac involvement, for a differential evaluation between patients with PIMS-KD versus KD.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The use of stimulants and other substances with the purpose of enhancing, maintaining, and prolonging sexual activity is known as sexualized substance use. Also known as chemsex, this pattern of use has been mainly explored in high-income countries. The aim of this article was to assess the feasibility, acceptability, and usefulness of a community- evidence-based harm reduction intervention among Mexican gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (gbMSM) adults who reported sexualized stimulant use in the past 6 months and who were not enrolled in any psychosocial treatment. METHODS: The in-person intervention was designed in partnership with gbMSM who used substances. It consisted of 39 harm reduction strategies before, during, and after episodes of use. The components of the intervention were health and self-care, safety, and psychopharmacology. The intervention was delivered at a university campus, a public recreational space, and an HIV public clinic. Feasibility to deliver the intervention was assessed based on enrolment and completion rates; acceptability through a 28-item, 5-point Likert scale (140 max.) constructed and validated for the Mexican population with good reliability coefficients; usefulness through a 5-point Likert scale ("not useful"-"very useful") for each of the 39 strategies; and potential behavioral change by subtracting the likelihood of implementing each strategy minus the frequency of use of the technique before the intervention. RESULTS: Participants (n = 19; recruitment rate = 35.2%; completion rate = 84.2%) rated the intervention as acceptable with a mean score of 121.6 (SD = 7.5). The highest potential for behavioral change was regarding the use of information about the half-life of stimulants, polysubstance use, and overdose prevention. CONCLUSIONS: This intervention is feasible when provided within public health services where potential participants are already in contact. Harm reduction strategies need to surpass sexually transmitted infections prevention and HIV care and focus on substance use and mental health strategies.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Fragile X-associated primary ovarian insufficiency (FXPOI), characterized by amenorrhea before age 40 years, occurs in 20% of female FMR1 premutation carriers. Presently, there are no molecular or biomarkers that can help predicting which FMR1 premutation women will develop FXPOI. We previously demonstrated that high FMR4 levels can discriminate between FMR1 premutation carriers with and without FXPOI. In the present study the relationship between the expression levels of FMR4 and the ovarian reserve markers was assessed in female FMR1 premutation carriers under age of 35 years. METHODS: We examined the association between FMR4 transcript levels and the measures of total antral follicle count (AFC) and serum anti-müllerian hormone (AMH) levels as markers of ovarian follicle reserve. RESULTS: Results revealed a negative association between FMR4 levels and AMH (r = 0.45) and AFC (r = 0.64). Statistically significant higher FMR4 transcript levels were found among those FMR1 premutation women with both, low AFCs and AMH levels. CONCLUSIONS: These findings reinforce previous studies supporting the association between high levels of FMR4 and the risk of developing FXPOI in FMR1 premutation carriers.

RESUMO

Aluminum (Al) toxicity and phosphorus (P) deficiency are widely recognized as major constraints to agricultural productivity in acidic soils. Under this scenario, the development of ryegrass plants with enhanced P use efficiency and Al resistance is a promising approach by which to maintain pasture production. In this study, we assessed the contribution of growth traits, P efficiency, organic acid anion (OA) exudation, and the expression of Al-responsive genes in improving tolerance to concurrent low-P and Al stress in ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.). Ryegrass plants were hydroponically grown under optimal (0.1 mM) or low-P (0.01 mM) conditions for 21 days, and further supplied with Al (0 and 0.2 mM) for 3 h, 24 h and 7 days. Accordingly, higher Al accumulation in the roots and lower Al translocation to the shoots were found in ryegrass exposed to both stresses. Aluminum toxicity and P limitation did not change the OA exudation pattern exhibited by roots. However, an improvement in the root growth traits and P accumulation was found, suggesting an enhancement in Al tolerance and P efficiency under combined Al and low-P stress. Al-responsive genes were highly upregulated by Al stress and P limitation, and also closely related to P utilization efficiency. Overall, our results provide evidence of the specific strategies used by ryegrass to co-adapt to multiple stresses in acid soils.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: A previous study compared vortexing and Maki techniques for the diagnosis of catheter-related bloodstream infection (CRBSI), and concluded that vortexing was not superior to Maki method. AIM: To determine whether the combined use of vortexing and Maki techniques provides profitability versus the Maki technique for the diagnosis of catheter tip colonization (CTC) and CRBSI. METHODS: Observational and prospective study carried out in an Intensive Care Unit. Patients with suspected catheter-related infection (CRI) and with one central venous catheter for at least 7 days were included. The area under the curve (AUC) of the Maki technique, the vortexing technique and the combination of both techniques for the diagnosis of CTC and CRBSI were compared. RESULTS: We included 136 episodes of suspected CRI. We found 21 cases of CTC of which 10 were also CRBSI cases. Of the 21 CTC episodes, 18 (85.7%) were diagnosed by Maki technique and vortexing technique, 3 (14.3%) only by the technique of Maki, and none only by technique of vortexing. Of the 10 CRBSI episodes, 9 (90.0%) were diagnosed by the techniques of Maki and vortexing, 1 (10.0%) was diagnosed only by the technique of Maki, and none only by the technique of vortexing. We no found differences in the comparison of AUC between the technique of Maki and the combination of Maki and vortexing techniques for the diagnosis of CTC (P = 0.99) and CRBSI (P = 0.99). CONCLUSION: The novel finding of our study was that the combined use of vortexing and Maki techniques did not provide profitability to the technique of Maki alone to CRBSI diagnosis of.
