RESUMO

Excessive ultraviolet (UV) B irradiation induced skin photoaging. The aim of this study was to evaluate the anti-photoaging efficacy of enriched-schizandrin from Schisandra chinensis fruit in UVB-induced hairless mice. The cream containing enriched-schizandrin from S. chinensis fruit manufactured with another cosmetic ingredient. UVB-photoaged hairless mice topically applied with the cream once a day for 5 weeks. Application of the cream showed normal changes of body weight and food efficiency in the UVB-photoaged hairless mice. The cream application also was decreased interleukin (IL)-1ß, matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and MMP-9 mRNA expressions and then it inhibited MMP-2 protein expression in UVB-photoaged hairless mice. Furthermore, the cream application inhibited epidermal wrinkle formation and decreased wrinkle depth and it restored to wrinkle thickness and collagen degradation of skin in UVB-photoaged hairless mice. Therefore, the cream could recover photoaging generated by UVB irradiation via downregulation of IL-1ß, MMP-2, MMP-9 mRNA expressions and suppression of expression of MMP-2 proteins.

RESUMO

Broad spectral response and high photoelectric conversion efficiency are key milestones for realizing multifunctional, low-power optoelectronic devices such as artificial synapse and reconfigurable memory devices. Nevertheless, the wide bandgap and narrow spectral response of metal-oxide semiconductors are problematic for efficient metal-oxide optoelectronic devices such as photonic synapse and optical memory devices. Here, a simple titania (TiO2 )/indium-gallium-zinc-oxide (IGZO) heterojunction structure is proposed for efficient multifunctional optoelectronic devices, enabling widen spectral response range and high photoresponsivity. By overlaying a TiO2 film on IGZO, the light absorption range extends to red light, along with enhanced photoresponsivity in the full visible light region. By implementing the TiO2 /IGZO heterojunction structure, various synaptic behaviors are successfully emulated such as short-term memory/long-term memory and paired pulse facilitation. Also, the TiO2 /IGZO synaptic transistor exhibits a recognition rate up to 90.3% in recognizing handwritten digit images. Moreover, by regulating the photocarrier dynamics and retention behavior using gate-bias modulation, a reconfigurable multilevel (≥8 states) memory is demonstrated using visible light.

RESUMO

Virtual reality therapy (VRT), based on this sophisticated technology, has been recently used in the treatment of subjects diagnosed with acrophobia, a disorder that is characterized by marked anxiety upon exposure to heights and avoidance of heights. Conventional VR systems for the treatment of acrophobia have limitations, over-costly devices or somewhat unrealistic graphic scenes. The goal of this study was to develop an inexpensive and more realistic virtual environment (VE) in which to perform exposure therapy for acrophobia. It is based on a personal computer, and a virtual scene of a bunge-jump tower in the middle of a large city. The virtual scenario includes an open lift surrounded by props beside a tower, which allows the patient to feel a sense of heights. The effectiveness of the VE was evaluated through the clinical treatment of a subject who was suffering from the fear of heights. As a result, it was proved that this VR environment was effective and realistic at overcoming acrophobia according not only to the comparison results of a variety of questionnaires before and after treatment but also to the subject's comments that the VE seemed to evoke more fearful feelings than the real situation.
