RESUMO

This study focused on the seismic performance of an intermediate unit of scrap tire-granular material composite columns under cyclic loading. A Laboratory test study regarding the dynamic deformation characteristics of the intermediate unit of a scrap tire-granular material composite column was conducted. The hysteresis loops, skeleton curves, stiffness degradation curves, and energy-dissipation capacities of the three specimens with different initial vertical loads were experimentally evaluated. Based on the test results, a restoring force model of the tire-granular material unit is established. The results demonstrated that the external force had a significant influence on the strength of the intermediate unit of the scrap tire-granular material composite column. The area of the hysteresis loop of the tire-granular material unit was large, indicating a good seismic performance. As the initial vertical load increased, the horizontal bearing capacity and lateral stiffness of the intermediate unit of the scrap tire-granular material composite column increased. The calculation results of the skeleton curve and hysteresis curve were in good agreement with the test results. As a base damping material, the scrap tire-granular material composite column is feasible, and provides a new concept for the resource utilization of the original scrap tire.

RESUMO

Background: This study aims to develop a diabetic retinopathy (DR) hazard nomogram for a Chinese population of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods: We constructed a nomogram model by including data from 213 patients with T2DM between January 2019 and May 2021 in the Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical University. We used basic statistics and biochemical indicator tests to assess the risk of DR in patients with T2DM. The patient data were used to evaluate the DR risk using R software and a least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) predictive model. Using multivariable Cox regression, we examined the risk factors of DR to reduce the LASSO penalty. The validation model, decision curve analysis, and C-index were tested on the calibration plot. The bootstrapping methodology was used to internally validate the accuracy of the nomogram. Results: The LASSO algorithm identified the following eight predictive variables from the 16 independent variables: disease duration, body mass index (BMI), fasting blood glucose (FPG), glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), homeostatic model assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), and vitamin D (VitD)-T3. The C-index was 0.848 (95% CI: 0.798-0.898), indicating the accuracy of the model. In the interval validation, high scores (0.816) are possible from an analysis of a DR nomogram's decision curve to predict DR. Conclusion: We developed a non-parametric technique to predict the risk of DR based on disease duration, BMI, FPG, HbA1c, HOMA-IR, TG, TC, and VitD.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO) is a rare complication of von Hipple-Lindau (VHL) disease. This report presents the first case of VHL disease complicated with CRVO caused by VHL c.208G > A mutation. CASE PRESENTATION: A 20 s man whose left eye visual acuity gradually declined for half a year. The visual acuity of the left eye is counting fingers. Fundus examination revealed that retinal hemangioblastoma was also found in addition to typical CRVO signs such as tortuous expansion of retinal veins and flame-shaped hemorrhage of the retina. Liver tumor, cerebral infarction and erythrocytosis were found during systemic examination, and the diagnosis of polycythemia was confirmed by bone marrow smear. Furthermore, both family history and genetic analysis indicated that the patient had VHL disease caused by VHL c.208G > A. In this patient, a large number of bone marrow erythrocytes proliferated due to VHL disease, which led to the increase of blood viscosity and erythrocyte vascular adhesion, resulting in the obstruction of central retinal vein blood flow, and finally CRVO. For CRVO and its pathogenic factor polycythemia, patient received laser retinal photocoagulation and phlebotomies. After a 1-year follow-up, the vision in the left eye improved to 0.2 logMAR. CONCLUSIONS: This is a rare case of polycythemia complicated by CRVO in patient with VHL disease. It reminds us that the systemic disease factors should be fully considered in the diagnosis of young patients with CRVO, and that treatment requires a coordinated effort of physicians.

RESUMO

Vegetation growing recycled concrete (VGRC) is a relatively new building material that has both biocompatibility and engineering function. The basic performance of VGRC was investigated by experimental analysis, and the hydration products and pore structure of different VGRC mix proportions were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and industrial computed tomography (CT). The results show that ultrafine slag can reduce Ca(OH)2 content in cementing material and has a filling effect on micropores. VGRC has the best performance; the internal pore distribution is uniform when porosity is 20-25%, and the ultrafine slag content is 40%. The compressive strength of VGRC is greatly damaged by the quick-freezing method, while the degree of damage from natural freeze-thaw cycles is relatively small. Soaking in acid solution can effectively reduce the internal pore alkalinity of VGRC. Most plants can grow normally in vegetation concrete, and plant roots can penetrate 6-cm thick concrete blocks after being planted for 60 days. The compressive strength of VGRC decreased after turf planting of 30 days and then increased slowly. The permeability coefficient of VGRC increases with the increase in porosity and aggregate size and decreases after planting and covering. The frost resistance of VGRC is enhanced, and the influence of aggregate size and porosity is small after turf planting.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study is to establish a mouse model of transthyretin (TTR) Gly83Arg gene mutation by the technique of gene targeting for research on hereditary vitreous amyloidosis (HVA) and to confirm whether this point mutation is a genetic feature of HVA. A vector (pBR322-MK-TTR) was constructed to target ES cells. The successfully transfected ES cells were used for blastocyst injection, thus generating F0. F0 and Flp mice were mated to generate F1 (TTR+/-, Flp +/-) mice that lacked the neo gene but carried the Flp gene. F1 mice were mated with C57BL/6N wild type mice to generate F2 (TTR+/-) mice. F3 homozygous and heterozygous mice were generated by mating F2 mice with each other. PCR and sequencing were performed for F3 mice. Amyloid was detected using Congo red stain and polarized light. Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of TTR in the tissues. Quantitative fluorescent PCR and Western blotting were used to detect the expression of TTR mRNA and TTR protein, respectively. Two F0-generation, 2 F1-generation and 15 F3-generation mice were obtained. The gene sequencing of F3 mice showed TTR Gly83Arg mutation. When examined with Congo red and polarized light, the vitreous of TTR Gly83Arg mutant mice tested positive for amyloid. The hearts, livers, brains and kidneys of the experimental group and control group were all negative by Congo red staining. Immunohistochemical staining showed that the vitreous of TTR Gly83Arg mutant mice and the livers of the control mice were positive, but the kidneys, hearts and brains of both groups were negative. Quantitative fluorescent PCR showed that the mRNA expression of mutant mice was significantly lower than that of wild-type mice (F = 0.295, P = 0.023). Western blotting showed that the expression of TTR protein was significantly lower in the model mice than in the wild-type mice (t = 3.224, P = 0.018). TTR gene mutation is indeed a molecular characteristic of HVA and manifest in the eye disease only. A C57BL/6 mouse line carrying the TTR Gly83Arg gene mutation was successfully established. This strain of mice can be used for the study of HVA.
