RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The association between Patient-Rated Elbow Evaluation: Japanese version (PREE-J) and Japanese Orthopaedic Association-Japan Elbow Society Elbow Function score (JOA-JES score) is unclear. This study evaluated the association between PREE-J and JOA-JES scores. METHODS: The patients with elbow disorders were divided into two groups: Group A (conservative treatment, n = 97) and Group B (surgical treatment, n = 156). The patients were also divided into four disease subgroups according to the JOA-JES classification (rheumatoid arthritis, trauma, sports, and epicondylitis groups), and the association between PREE-J and JOA-JES scores in each disease category was examined. In group B, associations between PREE-J and JOA-JES scores were examined pre-and postoperatively. RESULTS: In group A, there were significant associations between PREE-J and JOA-JES scores. In group B, a strong association between preoperative PREE-J and JOA-JES scores was observed in all disease categories. There was also a significant association between postoperative PREE-J and JOA-JES scores. Additionally, group B showed significant postoperative improvements in PREE-J and JOA-JES scores. CONCLUSIONS: The PREE-J score correlates well with the JOA-JES score and reflects treatment response before and after treatment.

RESUMO

Previous work has reported the synthesis of donor-acceptor-donor molecules based on dibenzophenazine acceptor group, presenting thermally activated delayed fluorescent (TADF) properties and their application in the assembly of highly efficient electroluminescent devices. Herein, we focus on the characterisation of charge carrier species through UV-Vis-NIR spectroelectrochemical and potentiostatic EPR techniques, in addition to the investigation of electropolymerisation properties of some compounds depicted in this study. The promising electrochromic features of both small molecules and conjugated polymers led to the assembly and investigation of electrochromic devices, evidencing the materials' versatility, applied in such different approaches as electrochromic windows and electroluminescent devices. Furthermore, the assembled OLEDs provided high efficiencies, with small roll-off, EQEs up to 20.5 % and luminance values up to 85 000 cd/m2 .

RESUMO

CASE: We experienced 2 cases of these entrapments. In the first case, the entrapment was identified immediately and treated successfully. In the second case, the entrapment was diagnosed after union when the disturbance of wrist flexion became apparent. CONCLUSION: When there is a longitudinal fracture line at the vicinity of the second compartment, the entrapment of extensors should be suspected even when acceptable overall alignment is accomplished.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The guidelines presented herein provide recommendations for the management of patients with lateral epicondylitis of the humerus. These recommendations are endorsed by the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) and Japan Elbow Society. METHODS: The JOA lateral epicondylitis guideline committee revised the previous guidelines on the basis of the "Medical Information Network Distribution Service Handbook for Clinical Practice Guideline Development 2014", which emphasized the importance of the balance between benefit and harm, and proposed a desirable method for preparing clinical guidelines in Japan. These guidelines consist of 11 clinical questions (CQs), 9 background questions (BQs), and 3 future research questions (FRQs). For each CQ, outcomes from the literature were collected and evaluated systematically according to the adopted study design. RESULTS: The committee proposed recommendations for each CQ by determining the level of evidence and assessing the consensus rate. Physical therapy was the best recommendation with the best evidence. The BQs and FRQs were answered by collecting evidence based on the literature. CONCLUSIONS: The guidelines presented herein were reviewed systematically, and recommendations were proposed for each CQ. These guidelines are expected to be widely used not only by surgeons or physicians but also by other healthcare providers, such as nurses, therapists, and athletic trainers.

RESUMO

Background Previous study demonstrated that distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) plays a biomechanical role in extension and flexion of the wrist and suggested that fixation of the DRUJ could lead to loss of motion of the wrist. Little is known about the pre- and postoperative range of motion (ROM) after the Sauvé-Kapandji (S-K) and Darrach procedures without tendon rupture. To understand the accurate ROM of the wrist after the S-K and Darrach procedures, enrollment of patients without subcutaneous extensor tendon rupture is needed. Purpose This study aimed to investigate the pre- and postoperative ROM after the S-K and Darrach procedures without subcutaneous extensor tendon rupture in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and osteoarthritis (OA). Methods This retrospective study included 36 patients who underwent the S-K procedure and 10 patients who underwent the Darrach procedure for distal radioulnar joint disorders without extensor tendon rupture. Pre- and postoperative ROMs after the S-K and Darrach procedures were assessed 1 year after the surgery. Results In the S-K procedure, the mean postoperative ROM of the wrist flexion (40 degrees) was significantly lower than the mean preoperative ROM (49 degrees). In wrist extension, there were no significant differences between the mean preoperative ROM (51 degrees) and postoperative ROM (51 degrees). In the Darrach procedure, the mean postoperative ROM of the wrist flexion and extension increased compared with the mean preoperative ROM; however, there were no significant differences. Conclusion In the S-K procedure, preoperative ROM of the wrist flexion decreased postoperatively. This study provides information about the accurate ROM after the S-K and Darrach procedures. Level of Evidence This is a Level IV, therapeutic study.

RESUMO

Room temperature phosphorescence materials offer great opportunities for applications in optoelectronics, due to their unique photophysical characteristics. However, heavy-atom-free organic emitters that can realize distinct electrophosphorescence are rarely exploited. Herein a new approach for designing heavy-atom-free organic room temperature phosphorescence emitters for organic light-emitting diodes is presented. The subtle tuning of the singlet and triplet excited states energies by appropriate choice of host matrix allows tailored emission properties and switching of emission channels between thermally activated delayed fluorescence and room temperature phosphorescence. Moreover, an efficient and heavy-atom-free room temperature phosphorescence organic light-emitting diode using the developed emitter is realized.

RESUMO

Vapochromic behaviour of porous crystals is beneficial for facile and rapid detection of gaseous molecules without electricity. Toward this end, tailored molecular designs have been established for metal-organic, covalent-bonded and hydrogen-bonded frameworks. Here, we explore the hydrochromic chemistry of a van der Waals (VDW) porous crystal. The VDW porous crystal VPC-1 is formed from a novel aromatic dendrimer having a dibenzophenazine core and multibranched carbazole dendrons. Although the constituent molecules are connected via VDW forces, VPC-1 maintains its structural integrity even after desolvation. VPC-1 exhibits reversible colour changes upon uptake/release of water molecules due to the charge transfer character of the constituent dendrimer. Detailed structural analyses reveal that the outermost carbazole units alone are mobile in the crystal and twist simultaneously in response to water vapour. Thermodynamic analysis suggests that the sigmoidal water sorption is induced by the affinity alternation of the pore surface from hydrophobic to hydrophilic.

RESUMO

A novel twisted donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) π-conjugated compound that contains flexible and moderately-electron-donating units has been designed and synthesized. It exhibited not only multi-color-changing mechanochromic luminescence and thermally activated delayed fluorescence, but also, unexpectedly, room-temperature phosphorescence in a host layer.

RESUMO

We report on the engineering of full thermally activated delayed fluorescence - based white organic light emitting diodes (W-OLEDs) composed of three emitters (2,7-bis(9,9-dimethyl-acridin-10-yl)-9,9-dimethylthioxanthene-S,S-dioxide (DDMA-TXO2), 2,7-bis(phenoxazin-10-yl)-9,9-dimethylthioxanthene-S,S-dioxide (DPO-TXO2) and 3,11-di(10H-phenoxazin-10-yl)dibenzo[a,j]phenazine (POZ-DBPHZ) in two different hosts. By controlling the device design through the study of the emission of DDMA-TXO2 and DPO-TXO2, the behaviour of POZ-DBPHZ in a device with more than one emitter, and the combination of the three materials, respectively, we show that external quantum efficiencies as high as 16% can be obtained for a structure with a correlated colour temperature close to warm white, together with colour rendering index close to 80. However it is in their performance stability that provides the true breakthrough: at 1000 cd/m2 the efficiencies were still above 10%, which is one of the best for this type of devices.

RESUMO

Novel U-shaped donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) π-conjugated multi-functional molecules comprising dibenzo[a,j]phenazine (DBPHZ) as an acceptor and phenothiazines (PTZ) as donors have been developed. Most importantly, the D-A-D compounds exhibit not only distinct tricolor-changeable mechanochromic luminescence (MCL) properties but also efficient thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF). Quantum chemical calculations, X-ray diffraction analysis, and systematic studies on the photophysical properties indicated that the "two-conformation-switchable" PTZ units play a highly important role in achieving multi-color-changing MCL. Time-resolved photophysical measurements revealed that the developed D-A-D compounds also exhibit efficient orange-TADF. Furthermore, organic light-emitting diode (OLED) devices fabricated with the new TADF emitters have achieved high external quantum efficiencies (EQEs) up to 16.8%, which significantly exceeds the theoretical maximum (∼5%) of conventional fluorescent emitters.

RESUMO

A new family of thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters based on U-shaped D-A-D architecture with a novel accepting unit has been developed. All investigated compounds have small singlet-triplet energy splitting (ΔEST ) ranging from 0.02 to 0.20 eV and showed efficient TADF properties. The lowest triplet state of the acceptor unit plays the key role in the TADF mechanism. OLEDs fabricated with these TADF emitters achieved excellent efficiencies up to 16 % external quantum efficiency (EQE).

RESUMO

A facile and moderately functional-group-tolerant synthetic method for the preparation of 7,8-diaza[5]helicenes has been developed. It comprises of an oxidative ring-closing process of 1,1'-binaphthalene-2,2'-diamine (BINAM) derivatives with a chlorine-containing oxidant (t-BuOCl) in the presence of a base (2,6-lutidine). In addition the basic physicochemical properties of newly synthesized compounds have been investigated.

RESUMO

An oxidative skeletal rearrangement of 1,1'-binaphthalene-2,2'-diamines (BINAMs) that involves the cleavage of a strong C-C single bond of the binaphthalene unit and the nitrogen migration has been discovered. The unprecedented rearrangement enables access to a series of U-shaped azaacenes otherwise difficult to prepare in a selective manner by classical methods. Moreover, physicochemical properties of the unique azaacenes have been comprehensively investigated.

RESUMO

To the best of our knowledge, there are no previous reports on anterior interosseous nerve palsy (AINP) caused by a soft tissue tumor after fracture of the distal radius. We treated a case of giant forearm lipoma that caused AINP one day after internal fixation of a distal radius fracture.

RESUMO

A 62-year-old woman visited our hospital one year after a motor vehicle accident complaining of ulnar wrist pain and restricted pronation and supination. Radiographs showed a 35° angular deformity at the ulnar neck. Closing wedge osteotomy was performed using two plates for stabilization. Twenty-four months postoperatively, the osteotomy site united without correction loss and the patient gained adequate pronation and supination. To the best of our knowledge, this represents the first report of corrective osteotomy for the treatment of malunited ulnar neck fracture. Although salvage operations such as ulnar head resection and the Sauvé-Kapandji procedure may provide reasonable results, anatomical repair can be considered as an option.

RESUMO

Because the radioulnar ligament attaches to the ulnar fovea and base of the ulnar styloid, foveal detachment of the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) induces severe distal radioulnar joint instability. This article describes both an arthroscopic and open repair technique to reattach the TFCC to the fovea. Both techniques reanchor the detached TFCC to the fovea. Both techniques are reliable and promising techniques in the repair of a foveal detachment of the TFCC.

RESUMO

Congruity of the ulnohumeral joint, especially its anterior portion, is an important stabilizer of the elbow joint. We report on 3 patients in whom the insufficiency of the coronoid process, such as nonunion or a flattened trochlear notch, was associated with posterolateral rotatory instability of the elbow. In our opinion, addressing the anterior bony integrity of the ulnohumeral joint, in addition to the ligamentous stabilizer and mechanical axis, is essential to achieve stability in these circumstances. This issue is discussed with a review of the literature.
