Scientific conferences increasingly suffer from the need for short presentations in which speakers like to dwell on the details of their work. A mitigating factor is to encourage discussion and planning of collaborations by organizing small meetings in a hotel large enough to host all attendees. This extends discussions' opportunities during morning breakfasts, lunches, dinners and long evenings together. Even if the vast majority of participants will not stay for the entire duration of the Conference, the possibilities for specialists to interact with specialists who are even very distant in terms of knowledge increase enormously. In any case, the results in terms of new job opportunities for young participants outweigh the costs for the organizers. Thirty years of Padova Muscle Days offer many examples, but the authors of this report on the state of the art of Mobility Medicine testify that this also happened in the 2024 Five Days of Muscle and Mobility Medicine (2024Pdm3) hosted at the Hotel Petrarca, Thermae of Euganea Hills and Padua, Italy which is in fact a valid countermeasure to the inevitable tendencies towards hyperspecialization that the explosive increase in scientific progress brings with it.

The third window syndrome, often associated with the Tullio phenomenon, is currently most often observed in patients with a superior semicircular-canal dehiscence (SCD) but is not specific to this pathology. Clinical and vestibular tests suggestive of this pathology are not always concomitantly observed and have been recently complemented by the skull-vibration-induced nystagmus test, which constitutes a bone-conducted Tullio phenomenon (BCTP). The aim of this work was to collect from the literature the insights given by this bedside test performed with bone-conducted stimulations in SCD. The PRISMA guidelines were used, and 10 publications were included and analyzed. Skull vibration-induced nystagmus (SVIN), as observed in 55 to 100% of SCD patients, usually signals SCD with greater sensitivity than the air-conducted Tullio phenomenon (ACTP) or the Hennebert sign. The SVIN direction when the test is performed on the vertex location at 100 Hz is most often ipsilaterally beating in 82% of cases for the horizontal and torsional components and down-beating for the vertical component. Vertex stimulations are more efficient than mastoid stimulations at 100 Hz but are equivalent at higher frequencies. SVIN efficiency may depend on stimulus location, order, and duration. In SCD, SVIN frequency sensitivity is extended toward high frequencies, with around 400 Hz being optimal. SVIN direction may depend in 25% on stimulus frequency and in 50% on stimulus location. Mastoid stimulations show frequently diverging results following the side of stimulation. An after-nystagmus observed in 25% of cases can be interpreted in light of recent physiological data showing two modes of activation: (1) cycle-by-cycle phase-locked activation of action potentials in SCC afferents with irregular resting discharge; (2) cupula deflection by fluid streaming caused by the travelling waves of fluid displacement initiated by sound or vibration at the point of the dehiscence. The SVIN direction and intensity may result from these two mechanisms' competition. This instability explains the SVIN variability following stimulus location and frequency observed in some patients but also discrepancies between investigators. SVIN is a recent useful insight among other bedside examination tests for the diagnosis of SCD in clinical practice.

BACKGROUND: Data on post-colonoscopy colorectal cancers (PCCRCs) after fecal occult blood test (FOBT)-positive colonoscopies is scarce (guaiac-based (gFOBT) or fecal immunochemical test (FIT)). AIMS: Evaluate the prevalence and characteristics of PCCRCs in the French gFOBT CRC screening program. METHODS: Retrospective population-based cohort study of all gFOBT-positive colonoscopies performed among individuals aged 50-74 between 2003 and 2014 within the CRC screening program organized in the Haut-Rhin (Alsace, France). The main outcome was PCCRC-3y rate. Adenoma detection rates (ADRs) calculated on gFOBT-positive colonoscopies were compared to those calculated on FIT-positive colonoscopies performed by the same gastroenterologists. RESULTS: Overall, 9106 gFOBT-positive colonoscopies performed by 36 gastroenterologists were included. Sixteen PCCRC-3y and 31 PCCRC-5y were diagnosed (68.8 % and 58.1 % were true interval PCCRCs respectively). The unadjusted PCCRC-3y rate was 2.4 % [95 % confidence interval (CI) 1.4 %-3.9 %]. The risk for PCCRC-5y was significantly higher when the gastroenterologist's ADR was <35 % compared to ≥35 % (HR 2.17 [95 %CI 1.19-3.93]). The mean absolute difference for ADR between gFOBT- and FIT-positive colonoscopies was 16.3 % in favor of FIT-positive colonoscopies. CONCLUSION: PCCRC-3y prevalence was low, estimated at 2.4 %. We suggest that the minimum standard for ADR in gFOBT- and FIT-positive colonoscopies should be set at 35 % and 50 % to 55 % respectively, in the French screening program.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS: The purpose of this research was to study the associations of postural activities and knowledge of the voice of opera singers, recognized in the literature for the specificity of their posture. Additionally, the link between vocal pathologies and body pains on one hand, and posture control on the other hand was investigated. METHODS: A questionnaire including 90 questions was distributed to singers in France and overseas during 6 months. Ninety-eight opera singers participated in the survey. Data were analyzed using Excel and Stata software. RESULTS: The results showed that the singers who paid more attention to posture, postural work while singing, had knowledge of anatomy and postural role in singing voice, healthy lifestyle, and good body habits, had less vocal discomfort and pathologies, a better vocal preservation, and used more costo-abdominal breathing. On the other hand, knowledge of postural role and postural work was linked with pain and vocal fatigue. Furthermore, a preventive need was revealed concerning the providing of knowledge and skills to singers, but also to singing teachers, speech therapists, and stage workers. CONCLUSION: Our study shows that benefits were found in the voice quality of opera singers with anatomical and postural knowledge and who work on posture as part of their vocal work compared to others. Postural work and knowledge increase attention to body pain and vocal fatigue. These results can inform health care providers, opera singers, and their teachers and performers of the benefits of posture on operatic voice quality. Accordingly, this study sparks new ideas for postural work and therapy in lyric voice.

Most adolescents spend excessive screen time (with television viewing, computer/console gaming, discussion forums/chatting online, internet surfing, doing homework, and electronic mails) which may impact the occurring of various types of school and out-of-school injuries. We assessed their associations and potential confounding factors among 1559 middle-school students from north-eastern France (mean age=13.5 ± 1.3). Participants completed a questionnaire including socioeconomic features, daily screen time for various screen-based activities (coded 1=<2, 2 = 2-4, 3=≥5 h; daily-total-screen time level (TDST) was defined as their sum, categorized into <7/7-11/≥12), various injury types during the school-year, behavior and health difficulties (BHDs; alcohol/tobacco/cannabis/other illicit drugs use, suffered physical/verbal violence, sexual abuse, poor family-peer support, sleep difficulty, depressive symptoms, suicide attempt, and time at onset). Most subjects had TDST≥7 (82.3 %). There were dose-effect associations of TDST with school-physical/sports training, school-free-time, out-of-school-sports, and single/repeated injuries (sex-age-adjusted odds ratio reaching 4.45). BHDs explained up to 39 % of these associations. The frequency of subjects without various BHDs decreased with age since age 10 more quickly among the participants with both TDST≥7 and injury than among the others. Our findings may inform health care providers, parents, schools, and public policy that reducing elevated screen time is efficient to prevent injuries and BHDs among adolescents.

Objective: School-behavior-health difficulties (SBHDs) may alter physical/mental capabilities and consequently increase injury risk during daily activities. This study assessed the associations of potential SBHDs and their cumulative number (SBHDcn) with various injury types among younger adolescents. Methods: The study population included 1,559 middle-school adolescents in France (10-18 years, 98% under 16,778 boys and 781 girls). They completed a questionnaire at school-year end collecting socioeconomic features (nationality, family structure, parents' education/occupation/income), school/out-of-school injuries during the school-year (dependent variables), and SBHDs starting before the school-year (low academic performance, alcohol/tobacco/cannabis/other-illicit-drugs use, physical/verbal violence, sexual abuse, perpetrated violence, poor social support, poor general health status, sleep difficulty, depressive symptoms, and suicide attempt). Data were analyzed using logistic regression models and Kaplan-Meier estimates. Results: Injuries were frequent during school-physical/sports-training (10.9%), other-school-training (4.7%), school-free-time (7.4%), out-of-school-sports-activity (16.5%), and traffic (2.2%). Single injury (one injury all injury types combined) and ≥2 injury types affected 23.3 and 7.9% of subjects, respectively. The proportion of adolescents without SBHDs decreased with age more quickly among those with each injury type than among those without injury. Various SBHDs were associated with most injury types, single injury, and ≥2 injury types (sex-age-adjusted odds/relative-risk ratios reaching 11, p < .001). A dose-effect association was found between SBHDcn 1-2/3-5/≥6 and both single injury and ≥2 injury types (sex-age adjusted relative risk ratios reaching 12.66, p < .001, vs. SBHDcn = 0). Socioeconomic features had a moderate confounding role in these associations. Conclusions: SBHDs strongly predict injuries among adolescents. Our findings may inform healthcare providers about their prominent role in detecting/reducing SBHDs and injuries.

Nystagmus produced in response to air-conducted sound (ACS) stimulation-the Tullio phenomenon-is well known in patients with a semicircular canal (SCC) dehiscence (SCD). Here we consider the evidence that bone-conducted vibration (BCV) is also an effective stimulus for generating the Tullio phenomenon. We relate the clinical evidence based on clinical data extracted from literature to the recent evidence about the physical mechanism by which BCV may cause this nystagmus and the neural evidence confirming the likely mechanism. The hypothetical physical mechanism by which BCV activates SCC afferent neurons in SCD patients is that traveling waves are generated in the endolymph, initiated at the site of the dehiscence. We contend that the nystagmus and symptoms observed after cranial BCV in SCD patients is a variant of Skull Vibration Induced Nystagmus (SVIN) used to identify unilateral vestibular loss (uVL) with the major difference being that in uVL the nystagmus beats away from the affected ear whereas in Tullio to BCV the nystagmus beats usually toward the affected ear with the SCD. We suggest that the cause of this difference is a cycle-by-cycle activation of SCC afferents from the remaining ear, which are not canceled centrally by simultaneous afferent input from the opposite ear, because of its reduced or absent function in uVL. In the Tullio phenomenon, this cycle-by-cycle neural activation is complemented by fluid streaming and thus cupula deflection caused by the repeated compression of each cycle of the stimuli. In this way, the Tullio phenomenon to BCV is a version of skull vibration-induced nystagmus.

Objective: Lack of regular physical activity (LPA) and the number of days/week with physical activity >60 minutes/day (Ndw) may be associated with school-health-relational difficulties (SHRDs) during the life-course. This study assessed their associations and the confounding role of socioeconomic features (nationality, family structure, parents' education/occupation/income) among younger adolescents. Methods: This cross-sectional population-based study included 1,559 middle-school adolescents from north-eastern France (10-18 years, 98% under 16 years, 778 boys and 781 girls). They completed over one-hour teaching period a questionnaire collecting last-12-month LPA and last-7-day Ndw (dependent variables), and risk factors including socioeconomic features, SHRDs (previous grade repetitions, last-12-month poor general health status/physical health/psychological health/social-relationships, depressive symptoms (and age at onset and duration from onset); cumulated number noted SHRDcn). Data were analyzed using logistic/linear regression models. Results: LPA was common (32.5%) and associated with all SHRDs (sex-age-adjusted odds ratio saOR reaching 1.99, p < .001) and depressive-symptoms duration (saOR 1.63 (p < .05) and 2.11 (p < .001) for 1-2 and ≥3 years, respectively, vs. no depressive symptoms). A dose-effect association was found between SHRDcn and LPA (24.0, 33.7, 45.6, and 53.5%; saOR 1.59, 2.58, and 3.43; for SHRDcn 1-2, 3-4, and ≥5 respectively, vs. SHRDcn = 0, p < .001). Ndw was similarly associated with all SHRDs and SHRDcn (sex-age-adjusted regression coefficient reaching -1.10 day/week, p < .001). Postural instability and loss of vestibular and somatosensory acuity can be part of the signs encountered in Parkinson's Disease (PD). Visual dependency is described in PD. These modifications of sensory input hierarchy are predictors of motion sickness (MS). The aim of this study was to assess MS susceptibility and effects of real induced MS in posture. 63 PD patients, whose medication levels (levodopa) reflected the pathology were evaluated, and 27 healthy controls, filled a MS questionnaire; 9 PD patients and 43 healthy controls were assessed by posturography using virtual reality. Drug amount predicted visual MS (p=0.01), but not real induced MS susceptibility. PD patients did not experience postural instability in virtual reality, contrary to healthy controls. Since PD patients do not seem to feel vestibular stimulated MS, they may not rely on vestibular and somatosensory inputs during the stimulation. However, they feel visually induced MS more with increased levodopa drug effect. Levodopa amount can increase visual dependency. The strongest MS predictors must be studied in PD to better understand the effect of visual stimulation and its absence in vestibular stimulation.

Background: Fabry disease (FD) is a rare inherited lysosomal storage disorder caused by the deficiency of the enzyme alpha-galactosidase A. This deficiency leads to an accumulation of glycosphingolipids leading to progressive and multisystemic disease, including renal, cardiac, and neurological damages. FD may also have neuro-otological and visual impairments, which can generate postural control alterations, inner ear, and vision being involved in this function. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of FD on postural control. Methods: In total, fourteen adult patients (8 men/6 women, mean age = 37.6 ± 11.4 years) and two children (mean age = 11 years) with FD and 19 healthy adults (12 men/7 women, mean age = 36.5 ± 16.9 years) and two healthy children (mean age = 10.5 years) took part in this study. Postural control was evaluated by a sensory organization test combining three visual situations (eyes open, eyes closed, and sway referenced visual surround motion) with two platform situations (stable platform and sway referenced platform motion), aiming to calculate a composite equilibrium score (CES), a high score being representative of good postural control. Somatosensory (RSOM), visual (RVIS), and vestibular (RVEST) contributions to postural control were calculated, a low score reflecting a poor use of the indicated sensory input. Results: The CES was lower in adult patients with FD compared with the healthy subjects (p < 0.001). RVIS (p = 0.001) and RVEST (p = 0.003) were lower in patients with FD compared with the control group, whereas no difference in RSOM was observed. Conclusion: Inner ear and visual pathologies associated with the central nervous system impairments are factors of postural control impairments. Physical activities, which can also be rehabilitative, by maintaining or increasing the weight of proprioception, may help diminish dependency on altered sensorial inputs.

Background and study aims Neoplasia-related indicators, such as adenoma detection rate (ADR), are a priority in the quality improvement process for colonoscopy. Our aim was to assess and compare different detection and characterization indicators in fecal immunochemical test (FIT)-positive colonoscopies, to determine associated factors, and to propose benchmarks. Patients and methods Retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data from all colonoscopies performed between 2015 and 2019 after a positive quantitative FIT in the population-based colorectal cancer screening program conducted in Alsace, part of the French national program. Detection indicators included ADR, mean number of adenomas per colonoscopy, and proximal serrated lesion (SL) detection rate. Characterization indicators included rate of non-neoplastic polyp (NNP) detection. Results Overall, 13,067 FIT-positive colonoscopies were evaluated, performed by 80 community gastroenterologists. The overall ADR was 57.6â%, and a 10âµg/g increase in fecal hemoglobin concentration was significantly associated with higher ADR (odds ratio [95â% confidence interval]â=â1.02 [1.02-1.03]). Endoscopists whose ADR was ≥â55â% were high detectors for all neoplasia, including proximal SLs and number of adenomas. The rate of detection of NNPs was 39.5â% in highest detectors (ADRâ>â70â%), significantly higher than in lower detectors (21.4â%) ( P â<â0.001). There was a strong correlation between detection and characterization indicators, e.âg. between rates of detection of proximal SLs and NNPs (Pearsonâ=â0.73; P â<â0.01). Conclusions A single indicator, ADR, is enough to assess endoscopist performance for both detection and characterization in routine practice provided the minimum target standard is raised and a maximum standard is added: 55â% and 70â% for FIT-positive colonoscopies, respectively.

Objective: The skull vibration-induced-nystagmus test (SVINT) is a noninvasive and effective screening tool for the function of the otolith and canal structures in children. It can instantaneously assess vestibular asymmetry. This study aimed to analyze the SVINT results of healthy children vs. children with hearing loss (HL) and to correlate it with sensory organization test (SOT) results as a functional balance evaluation tool. Design: This case-controlled study compared the results of SVINT to the results of the SOT of the computerized dynamic posturography (CDP) in a control group of 120 healthy normal-hearing children (i.e., NH group) vs. hearing loss (HL) group of 60 children, including 30 children with hearing aids (HAs) and 30 children with a unilateral cochlear implant (CI). The SVINT results were compared to the caloric test (CaT) and video head impulse test (vHIT) and associated with SOT scores. Results: Thirty-one children in the HL group had normal SVINT and normal SOT results. A total of 21 children in the HL group had SVINT-negative and abnormal results in the SOT (possibly due to bilateral vestibular loss (BVL)). Eight children in the HL group had positive SVINT and abnormal SOT results. However, none of the children had only positive SVINT with normal SOT findings. Moreover, 52% of children had a normal result on both the SOT and CaT, whereas 27% had abnormal results on both tests (17% bilateral weakness and 10% unilateral), and 22% had the only result of the SOT suggesting a functional abnormality. Similarly, when associating the result to vHIT, 51% had normal results on both tests, and 25% had abnormal results (13% bilateral and 12% unilateral weakness). Conclusions: SVINT findings can be correlated with SOT findings in the case of the unilateral vestibular lesion (UVL), which adds a diagnostic value in these pediatric cases but may differ in the case of the bilateral vestibular lesion (BVL). However, SVINT findings need to be cautiously interpreted in light of other test findings such as the SOT, CaT, and vHIT.

INTRODUCTION: Chiari I malformation (CM1) is an anatomical abnormality characterised by the cerebellar tonsils descending at least 5 mm below the foramen magnum. CM1 causes obstruction of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) circulation as well as direct compression on the brainstem, thus causing typical consequences (syringomyelia), and typical clinical features (characteristic headaches and neurological impairment). Surgery is the only available treatment, indicated when symptomatology is present. However, sometimes patients have atypical complaints, which are often suggestive of otolaryngological (ears, nose and throat, ENT) involvement. This may be difficult for a neurosurgeon to explain. Our study aims to investigate the relationship between one of these atypical symptoms, for example, postural instability, in a paediatric population using a Computerised Dynamic Posturography (Equitest, NeuroCom, Clackamas, OR). To our knowledge, there are no previously published studies carried out on children with CM1, using dynamic posturography. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: Forty-five children aged 6-18 years old presenting with radiologically confirmed CM1 and presenting ENT clinical complaints will be included in the study for a duration of 3 years. As primary endpoint, posturographic results will be described in the population study. Second, posturographic results will be compared between patients with and without indication for surgery. Finally, preoperative and postoperative posturographic results, as well as CSF circulation quality at foramen magnum level, syringomyelia, sleep apnoea syndrome, scoliosis and behaviour will be compared in the operated patient group. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: This protocol received ethical approval from the Clinical Research Delegation of Nancy University Hospital, in accordance with the National Commission on Informatics and Liberties (Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés) (protocol number 2019PI256-107). Our data treatment was in accordance with the Methodology of reference Methodology Reference-004 specification for data policy. The study findings will be disseminated via peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, especially to the Neurosphynx's rare disease healthcare network. During the early years of spaceflight it was documented that astronauts were impaired and incapacitated upon return to earth. Computerized Dynamic Posturography (CDP) was devised to investigate and quantify this deficit, and eventually progressed into a clinical assessment tool. The current sprouting of virtual reality (VR) technologies has allowed for the development of an alternative approach that could be more informative. Many low-cost VR systems (including desktop gaming programs designed for rehabilitation) are now available. Continued improvements in this technology indicate a high probability that VR will become an integral component of posturography by replacing present mechanical CDP techniques. We researched the relevant literature to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of CDP using the Equitest (Neurocom International; Clackamas USA), and the added benefits of incorporating VR to help clinicians assess the complex task of balance maintenance. VR is capable of manipulating task and environmental demands in order to assess functional postural behavior. VR is also a useful tool for clinical testing of postural disorders resulting from sensory mismatch. Although posturography is still a useful clinical tool, VR provides an inherent conflict between the visual and vestibular senses and can elevate the effectiveness of CDP for both assessment and intervention. We conclude that, when initially developed, CDP was innovative and ahead of its time. However, with the advent of VR, we have a chance to modernize CDP and enhance its value as a clinical instrument.

BACKGROUND: Singers are unique musicians because they use their whole body as a musical instrument. Posture and proprioception are key components for a robust and healthy voice. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to analyze the postural control of lyric singers in different sensorimotor conditions. METHODS: Seventeen lyric singers were compared to a control group of 12 participants in static postural control test in eyes open (C1) and eyes closed (C2) conditions. Postural control of singers was also assessed in four specific singing conditions: singing posture eyes open (C3) and eyes closed (C4), vocalization (C5) and free aria (C6), low values being representative of good postural control. Singers also completed the Singing Voice Handicap Index (SVHI) French version, low scores reflecting a good SVHI result. RESULTS: No significant difference was observed between the two groups in C1 and C2. Postural control of singers was more accurate in C3 than in C1. Increased values in all postural parameters were seen in the singing conditions. Scores obtained at the SVHI were correlated to the area covered by the center of foot pressure in C5, low scores at the SVHI being correlated with low area values in this postural condition. CONCLUSIONS: Singing is a multitask situation which involves several movements including breathing, and management of factors such as stress. This can affect balance and so rigorous work on posture and proprioception is required as soon as a singer begins to perform in order to take care of the voice.

Background and study aims The aim of this study was to analyze presentation, management, and outcomes of large polyps (LPs;â≥â20âmm) detected in a colorectal cancer (CRC) screening program using a quantitative fecal immunochemical test (FIT). Patients and methods This was a retrospective community- and population-based observational study of all LPs detected in patients aged 50 to 74 years between 2015 and 2019 during FIT-positive colonoscopies within the screening program organized in Alsace (France). Results Among 13,633 FIT-positive colonoscopies, 1256 LPs (8.5â% malignant and 51.8â% nonpedunculated) were detected by 102 community gastroenterologists in 1164 patients (one in 12 colonoscopies). The sensitivity of optical diagnosis of malignancy was 54â% for nonpedunculated and 27â% for pedunculated T1 CRCs. The endoscopic resection rate was 82.7â% (95â% confidence interval [CI] 80.3-84.9) for benign LPs (70.2â% [95â% CI 66.4-74.1]) nonpedunculated, 95.2â% [95â% CI 93.4-97.1] pedunculated), varying from 0 to 100â% depending on the endoscopist. It was correlated with cecal intubation (Pearson r â=â0.49, P â<â0.01) and adenoma detection rates ( r â=â0.25, P â=â0.01). Most endoscopists did not refer patients to more experienced endoscopists, and as a result, 60â% to 90â% of 183 surgeries for benign LPs were unwarranted. Endoscopic resection was curative for 4.3â% (95â% CI 0.9-12.0) of nonpedunculated and 37.8â% (95â% CI 22.5-55.2) of pedunculated T1 CRCs. Overall, 22 endoscopic submucosal dissections had to be performed to avoid one surgery. Conclusions Compared with current recommendations, there is tremendous room for improvement in community endoscopy practices in the diagnosis and management of LPs. Detection and polypectomy competencies are correlated and highly variable among endoscopists. Endoscopic resection is curative for 83â% of benign LPs and 16â% of T1 CRCs.

BACKGROUND: To establish in patients with peripheral vestibular disorders relations between skull vibration-induced nystagmus (SVIN) different components (horizontal, vertical, torsional) and the results of different structurally related vestibular tests. METHODS: SVIN test, canal vestibular test (CVT: caloric test + video head impulse test: VHIT), otolithic vestibular test (OVT: ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potential oVEMP + cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potential cVEMP) performed on the same day in 52 patients with peripheral vestibular diseases (age < 65 years), and 11 control patients were analyzed. Mixed effects logistic regression analysis was performed to assert whether the presence of nystagmus in SVIN (3D analysis) have an association with the presence of peripheral vestibular dysfunction measured by vestibular explorations (CVT or OVT). RESULTS: We obtained different groups: Group-Co (control group), Group-VNT (dizzy patients with no vestibular tests alterations), Group-O (OVT alterations only), Group-C (CVT alterations only), Group-M (mixed alterations). SVIN-SPV horizontal component was significantly higher in Group-M than in the other groups (p = 0.005) and correlated with alterations of lateral-VHIT (p < 0.001), caloric test (p = 0.002) and oVEMP (p = 0.006). SVIN-SPV vertical component was correlated with the anterior-VHIT and oVEMP alterations (p = 0.007; p = 0.017, respectively). SVIN-SPV torsional component was correlated with the anterior-VHIT positivity (p = 0.017). SVIN was the only positive test for 10% of patients (83% of Group-VNT). CONCLUSION: SVIN-SPV analysis in dizzy patients shows significant correlation to both CVT and OVT. SVIN horizontal component is mainly relevant to both vestibular tests exploring lateral canal and utricle responses. SVIN-SPV is significantly higher in patients with combined canal and otolith lesions. In some patients with dizziness, SVIN may be the only positive test.

In order to be more consistent with their care giving values, a growing number of health professionals are looking for more environmentally friendly care practices. The health crisis we are going through strongly questions the footprint of care in terms of sustainable development and environmental health. Changes are possible; training courses exist to assimilate eco-actions.

BACKGROUND/AIM: the aim of this study was to assess the skull vibration-induced nystagmus test (SVINT) results and vestibular residual function after horizontal semicircular canal (HSCC) plugging. METHODS: In this retrospective chart review performed in a tertiary referral center, 11 patients who underwent unilateral horizontal semicircular canal plugging (uHSCCP) for disabling Menière's disease (MD) were included. The skull vibration-induced nystagmus (SVIN) slow-phase velocity (SPV) was compared with the results of the caloric test (CaT), video head impulse test (VHIT), and cervical vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials (cVEMP) performed on the same day. RESULTS: Overall, 10 patients had a strong SVIN beating toward the intact side (Horizontal SVIN-SPV: 8.8°/s ± 5.6°/s), 10 had a significant or severe ipsilateral CaT hypofunction, 10 had an ipsilateral horizontal VHIT gain impairment, and 3 had altered cVEMP on the operated side. Five had sensorineural hearing worsening. SVIN-positive results were correlated with CaT and horizontal VHIT (HVHIT) results (p < 0.05) but not with cVEMP. SVIN-SPV was correlated with CaT hypofunction in % (p < 0.05). Comparison of pre- and postoperative CaT % hypofunction showed a significant worsening (p = 0.028). CONCLUSION: SVINT results in a human model of horizontal canal plugging are well correlated with vestibular tests exploring horizontal canal function, but not with cVEMP. SVINT always showed a strong lesional nystagmus beating away from the lesion side. SVIN acts as a good marker of HSCC function. This surgical technique showed invasiveness regarding horizontal canal vestibular function.

PURPOSE: To determine the contributions of proprioceptive and visual feedbacks for postural control at 6 months following ACLR, and to determine their associations with knee laxity, isokinetic tests and clinical scores. STUDY DESIGN: Level IV, Case series. METHODS: Fifty volunteers who received ACLR between May 2015 and January 2017 were prospectively enrolled, and at 6 months following ACLR, postural stability was assessed. Somatosensory ratios (somatic proprioception), and visual ratios (visual compensation), were calculated to evaluate the use of sensory inputs for postural control. Univariable regression analyses were performed to determine associations of somatosensory and visual ratios with knee laxity, isokinetic tests and clinical scores. RESULTS: At 6 months following ACLR, the somatosensory ratio did not change, while the visual ratio decreased significantly from 5.73 ± 4.13 to 3.07 ± 1.96 (p = 0.002), indicating greater reliance on visual cues to maintain balance. Univariable analyses revealed that the somatosensory ratio was significantly lower for patients who performed aquatic therapy (ß = -0.50; p = 0.045), but was not associated with knee laxity, muscle strength or clinical scores. An increased visual ratio was associated with patients who received hamstrings tendon autografts (ß = 1.32; p = 0.049), but was not associated with knee laxity, muscle strength or clinical scores. CONCLUSION: At 6 months following ACLR, visual ratios decreased significantly, while somatosensory ratios did not change. This may suggest that there is little or no improvement in neuromuscular proprioception and therefore greater reliance on visual cues to maintain balance. The clinical relevance of this study is that posturography can provide useful information to help research following ACLR and to predict successful return to play.
