INTRODUCTION: Multi-organ dysfunction caused by thromboembolic complications may complicate the course of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Most patients require anticoagulant therapy which predisposes them to the development of hemorrhagic syndrome. In critically ill COVID-19 patients secondary infections due to opportunistic pathogens are associated with a high mortality rate. CASE REPORT: Herein, we present a COVID-19 patient with severe hemorrhage at unusual sites complicated with invasive candidiasis and an extensively drug-resistant (XDR) strain of Klebsiella enterobacter. CONCLUSIONS: Clinicians should be aware of the possibility for invasive fungal infections in severely ill patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection due to pre-existing conditions, risk factors, and COVID-19 associated pathological mechanisms. Management of invasive candidiasis is challenging because of the high prevalence of comorbidities, risk of toxicities, and drug interactions.

We have developed several autotuning benchmarks in CUDA that take into account performance-relevant source-code parameters and reach near peak-performance on various GPU architectures. We have used them during the development and evaluation of a search method for tuning space proposed in [1]. With our framework Kernel Tuning Toolkit, freely available at Github, we measured computation times and hardware performance counters on several GPUs for the complete tuning spaces of five benchmarks. These data, which we provide here, might benefit research of search algorithms for the tuning spaces of GPU codes or research of relation between applied code optimization, hardware performance counters, and GPU kernels' performance. Moreover, we describe the scripts we used for robust evaluation of our searcher and comparison to others in detail. In particular, the script that simulates the tuning, i.e., replaces time-demanding compiling and executing the tuned kernels with a quick reading of the computation time from our measured data, makes it possible to inspect the convergence of tuning search over a large number of experiments. These scripts, freely available with our other codes, make it easier to experiment with search algorithms and compare them in a robust and reproducible way. During our research, we generated models for predicting values of performance counters from values of tuning parameters of our benchmarks. Here, we provide the models themselves and describe the scripts we implemented for their training. These data might benefit researchers who want to reproduce or build on our research.

A 69 year old patient was admitted to hospital with massive gastrointestinal hemorrhage. The clinical presentation of the patient, except for bleeding, was dominated by the presence of neurofibromatosis type 1 - Von Recklinghausen disease. The patient was referred to multislice computed tomography (CT) angiography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), esophagogastroduodenoscopy and colonoscopy, which were performed without successful detection of the bleeding site. The MRI examination showed the existence of a tumor located in the small pelvis. After that, gastrointestinal bleeding scintigraphy (GIBS) with technetium-99m (99mTc) pyrophosphate in vivo labeled erythrocytes was done. Gastrointestinal bleeding scintigraphy showed active intraluminal bleeding from the projection of jejunum, which flowed through the small intestine to the descending colon and the sigmoidal and rectal segment of the colon. Surgical resection of the abdomen revealed the existence of tumors in the jejunum with active bleeding and resection and anastomosis was done. Histopathological verification showed intestinal neurofibroma. In this case GIBS showed usefulness in proving the existence of active bleeding in the small intestine and its localization, and it was of a great help in planning the surgical treatment of a patient.

PURPOSE: Stylohyoid complex is anatomical structure predisposed to numerous individual variations. These may result in its extreme elongation, medial deviation and finally Eagle's syndrome occurrence. The aim of this study was to measure the length, angulation, evaluate morphological variations of stylohyoid complex by computed tomography and, subsequently, relate obtained data to the gender and the age of the evaluated cases. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The material included CT scans of stylohyoid complexes of 282 individuals. The entire length, maximal thickness, and angulation of the stylohyoid complexes in the coronal, transverse, and sagittal planes were measured. RESULTS: According to their morphology, orientation and length, stylohyoid complexes were classified into six morphological types. Elongated, bent, segmented, and segmented with attached stylohyoid ligament for the lesser horns of the hyoid bone stylohyoid complex types were characterized by significantly greater length, while pseudoarticulated type was characterized by significantly lower length in relation to normal stylohyoid complex type. The elongated type was additionally significantly thicker and with significantly lower value of medial angle in transverse plain than the normal stylohyoid complex type. Elongated, bent, and segmented types were significantly more frequent in males than in females. Furthermore, the frequency of the elongated stylohyoid complex type increased, whereas normal and pseudoarticulated types decreased with age. CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, elongated and more medially deviated stylohyoid complexes are more frequent in males than in females. Their more frequent presence in the older age groups indirectly connects this phenomenon with the aging process.
