RESUMO

BACKGROUND: To analyze the clinical characteristics and outcomes of children with severe neurological symptoms associated with the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection during the Omicron pandemic in China. METHODS: This study used a questionnaire to obtain data from pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) centers in seven tertiary hospitals in Northeast China from December 1, 2022, to January 31, 2023. RESULTS: A total of 255 patients were confirmed to have SARS-CoV-2 infection, and 45 patients (17.65 %) were included in this study. Of these, seven (15.6%) patients died, and the median time from admission to death was 35 h (IQR, 14-120 h). Twenty (52.6%) survivors experienced neurological sequelae. Patients with platelet counts lower than 100 × 109/L had a higher incidence of complications such as multiple organ dysfunction, mechanical ventilation rate, and mortality. Cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) always reveals cerebral tissue edema, with some severe lesions forming a softening site. CONCLUSION: Children infected with SARS-CoV-2 often exhibit severe neurological symptoms, and in some cases, they may rapidly develop malignant cerebral edema or herniation, leading to a fatal outcome. An early decrease in platelet count may associated with an unfavorable prognosis. IMPACT: Since early December 2022, China has gradually adjusted its prevention and control policy of SARS-CoV-2; Omicron outbreaks have occurred in some areas for a relatively short period. Due to the differences in ethnicity, endemic strains and vaccination status, there was a little difference from what has been reported about children with SARS-CoV-2 infection with severe neurological symptoms in abroad. This is the first multicenter clinical study in children with nervous system involvement after acute SARS-CoV-2 infection in China, and helpful for pediatricians to have a more comprehensive understanding of the clinical symptoms and prognosis of such disease.

RESUMO

ABSTRACT Introduction: Martial arts demand a high-stability from their athletes, allied to a fast speed in complex movements. These characteristics have been shown to increase in other sports with the strengthening of the abdominal core of their athletes, and it is believed that martial arts practitioners could also benefit from this additional exercise. Objective: Explore the influences of abdominal core strengthening on explosive strength in martial arts athletes. Methods: Twenty martial arts athletes were selected and randomly divided between the experimental and control group. The experimental group did abdominal core strength training associated with traditional physical training, while the control group practiced only traditional physical training. After the experiment, new physical tests were performed, comparing the pre and post results regarding peak torque, explosive strength, and impact explosive strength of martial arts athletes. Results: The relative strike force of the straight fist in the experimental group increased from 25.75 to 31.89 after the experiment; the relative strike force to the lower limbs increased from 37.64 to 47.00 after the experiment (p<0.05). Conclusion: After the executed strength training, the athletes' extensor peak torque and impact explosive strength indexes were significantly enhanced, evidencing the improvement of the explosive strength of martial arts athletes. Level of evidence II; Therapeutic studies - investigation of treatment outcomes.

RESUMO

Objective: In this study, transcriptome sequencing was performed on patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus treated with different prognosis to explore the differential level genes of different hypoglycemic effects of sitagliptin. Methods: Patients with newly diagnosed T2DM (within six months of diagnosis) were selected as the study subjects. Patients were given sitagliptin 100 mg once a day orally. After 12 weeks of regular drug therapy, the reduction in glycated hemoglobin was compared before and after drug administration. The patients were then divided into two groups: the significantly effective group (M) and the less effective group (N). High-throughput sequencing of the transcriptome was conducted to detect the differential expression levels of genes in peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Expanded sample size validation of the candidate differential genes was conducted using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Results: After 12 weeks of treatment with sitagliptin, high-throughput sequencing of the transcriptome found that expression of the following genes was different when comparing the significantly effective group (M) and the less effective group (N): ghrelin (GHRL), insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF1R), mitogen-activated protein kinase-3 (MAPK3), phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphonate 3-kinase, catalytic subunit delta (PIK3CD), and the suppressor of cytokine signaling-3 (SOCS3). The validation results of RT-PCR showed that, in the significantly effective group (M), the expression of IGF1R was significantly increased (P = 0.034), the expression of MAPK3 was significantly reduced (P = 0.002), and the expression of SOCS3 was also significantly reduced (P < 0.001). Conclusion: There was a significant difference in gene level between patients with significant hypoglycemic effect and patients with poor hypoglycemic effect, and the expression of IGF1R increased and the expression of MAPK3 and SOCS3 decreased.

RESUMO

Myosin heavy chain 9 (MYH9) plays an essential role in human diseases, including multiple cancers; however, little is known about its role in gliomas. In the present study, we revealed that HMGA1 and MYH9 were upregulated in gliomas and their expression correlated with WHO grade, and HMGA1 promoted the acquisition of malignant phenotypes and chemoresistance of glioma cells by regulating the expression of MYH9 through c-Jun-mediated transcription. Moreover, MYH9 interacted with GSK-3ß to inhibit the expression of GSK-3ß protein by promoting its ubiquitination; the downregulation of GSK-3ß subsequently promoted the nuclear translocation of ß-catenin, enhancing growth, invasion, migration, and temozolomide resistance in glioma cells. Expression levels of HMGA1 and MYH9 were significantly correlated with patient survival and should be considered as independent prognostic factors. Our findings provide new insights into the role of HMGA1 and MYH9 in gliomagenesis and suggest the potential application of HMGA1 and MYH9 in cancer therapy in the future.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Hypertension is considered an important risk factor for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The commonly anti-hypertensive drugs are the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) inhibitors, calcium channel blockers (CCBs), and beta-blockers. The association between commonly used anti-hypertensive medications and the clinical outcome of COVID-19 patients with hypertension has not been well studied. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study that included all patients admitted with COVID-19 to Huo Shen Shan Hospital and Guanggu District of the Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Hubei Province, Wuhan, China. Clinical and laboratory characteristics were extracted from electronic medical records. Hypertension and anti-hypertensive treatment were confirmed by medical history and clinical records. The primary clinical endpoint was all-cause mortality. Secondary endpoints included the rates of patients in common wards transferred to the intensive care unit and hospital stay duration. Logistic regression was used to explore the risk factors associated with mortality and prognosis. Propensity score matching was used to balance the confounders between different anti-hypertensive treatments. Kaplan-Meier curves were used to compare the cumulative recovery rate. Log-rank tests were performed to test for differences in Kaplan-Meier curves between different groups. RESULTS: Among 4569 hospitalized patients with COVID-19, 31.7% (1449/4569) had a history of hypertension. There were significant differences in mortality rates between hypertensive patients with CCBs (7/359) and those without (21/359) (1.95% vs. 5.85%, risk ratio [RR]: 0.32, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.13-0.76, χ2 = 7.61, P = 0.0058). After matching for confounders, the mortality rates were similar between the RAAS inhibitor (4/236) and non-RAAS inhibitor (9/236) cohorts (1.69% vs. 3.81%, RR: 0.43, 95% CI: 0.13-1.43, χ2 = 1.98, P = 0.1596). Hypertensive patients with beta-blockers (13/340) showed no statistical difference in mortality compared with those without (11/340) (3.82% vs. 3.24%, RR: 1.19, 95% CI: 0.53-2.69, χ2 = 0.17, P = 0.6777). CONCLUSIONS: In our study, we did not find any positive or negative effects of RAAS inhibitors or beta-blockers in COVID-19 patients with hypertension, while CCBs could improve prognosis.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The present study aimed to evaluate and analyze the results of karyotyping by amniocentesis and next generation sequencing (NGS)-based noninvasive prenatal DNA testing (NIPT) for the prenatal diagnosis of fetal chromosomal disorders. METHODS: A total of 2267 high-risk pregnant females with the indications for prenatal diagnosis who met the enrollment criteria between January 2015 and May 2019 at the Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University were included and underwent NGS-based NIPT in the present study. Amniocentesis, chromosome karyotyping by cell culture, and follow-up of the pregnancy outcomes were also conducted in the NIPT-positive pregnant females to assess the consistency between NIPT and results of karyotyping by amniocentesis. RESULTS: Among the 2267 cases, 29 cases were positive for NIPT, including 10 cases with a high risk of trisomy 21, 2 cases with a high risk of trisomy 18, 2 cases with a high risk of chromosome 13, and 20 cases with sex chromosome abnormalities. All the above NIPT-positive cases underwent amniocentesis, and 20 cases were eventually diagnosed. The sensitivity and specificity of NIPT for the diagnosis of trisomy 21, trisomy 13, and trisomy 18 were 100%, 99.96%, 100%, and 99.96%, 100%, 100%, respectively, and the positive predictive values were 91.67%, 66.67%, and 100%, respectively. CONCLUSION: NGS of the fetal free DNA from the peripheral blood of pregnant females was an important complement to the prenatal diagnosis of chromosomal disorders represented by fetal chromosome aneuploidy with high sensitivity and specificity. In combination with the traditional karyotyping by amniocentesis, it could improve the diagnostic efficacy for fetal chromosomal disorders.

RESUMO

Grassland is an important type of terrestrial ecosystem. Using remote sensing technology to study the change and driving force of native grassland productivity at large scale is an important way to understand the ecological status of grassland. In this study, potential and actual net primary productivity (NPP) of Xilingol steppe from 2000 to 2018 were examined based on climatic model and light-use efficiency model, respectively. NPP damage value driven by human activities was calculated from the difference between potential and actual NPP. The least square method was used to analyze the temporal and spatial variation of NPP in Xilingol and the driving role of climate and human activities on NPP. The results showed that NPP in Xilingol increased from west to east, with mean annual NPP being 271.54 g C·m-2·a-1, the area with increased NPP (grassland restoration) being 36500 km2, and the area with decreased NPP (grassland degradation) being 59900 km2. The potential NPP tended to rise under the driving force of temperature and precipitation, with an average annual increase of 6.5 g C·m-2·a-1, which indicated that regional climate played a positive role in the improvement of NPP in Xilingol steppe, and that human activities were the main driving force for grassland degradation. The value of NPP damage driven by human activities decreased from east to west and from south to north, with the highest value in Wuzhumuqin meadow and southern steppe. Human activities, such as mining and reclamation, had the most obvious negative impact on grassland NPP.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Chronic hepatitis B is a liver disease associated with high morbidity and mortality. Chronic hepatitis B requires long-term management aiming to reduce the risks of hepatocellular inflammatory necrosis, liver fibrosis, decompensated liver cirrhosis, liver failure, and liver cancer, as well as to improve health-related quality of life. Acupuncture is being used to decrease discomfort and improve immune function in people with chronic hepatitis B. However, the benefits and harms of acupuncture still need to be established in a rigorous way. OBJECTIVES: To assess the benefits and harms of acupuncture versus no intervention or sham acupuncture in people with chronic hepatitis B. SEARCH METHODS: We undertook electronic searches of the Cochrane Hepato-Biliary Group Controlled Trials Register, CENTRAL, MEDLINE, Embase, LILACS, Science Citation Index Expanded, Conference Proceedings Citation Index - Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chongqing VIP (CQVIP), Wanfang Data, and SinoMed to 1 March 2019. We also searched the World Health Organization International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (www.who.int/ictrp), ClinicalTrials.gov (www.clinicaltrials.gov/), and the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR) for ongoing or unpublished trials until 1 March 2019. SELECTION CRITERIA: We included randomised clinical trials, irrespective of publication status, language, and blinding, comparing acupuncture versus no intervention or sham acupuncture in people with chronic hepatitis B. We included participants of any sex and age, diagnosed with chronic hepatitis B as defined by the trialists or according to guidelines. We allowed co-interventions when the co-interventions were administered equally to all intervention groups. DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS: Review authors in pairs individually retrieved data from reports and through correspondence with investigators. Primary outcomes were all-cause mortality, proportion of participants with one or more serious adverse events, and health-related quality of life. Secondary outcomes were hepatitis B-related mortality, hepatitis B-related morbidity, and adverse events considered not to be serious. We presented the pooled results as risk ratios (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). We assessed the risks of bias using risk of bias domains with predefined definitions. We put more weight on the estimate closest to zero effect when results with fixed-effect and random-effects models differed. We evaluated the certainty of evidence using GRADE. MAIN RESULTS: We included eight randomised clinical trials with 555 randomised participants. All included trials compared acupuncture versus no intervention. These trials assessed heterogeneous acupuncture interventions. All trials used heterogeneous co-interventions applied equally in the compared groups. Seven trials included participants with chronic hepatitis B, and one trial included participants with chronic hepatitis B with comorbid tuberculosis. All trials were assessed at overall high risk of bias, and the certainty of evidence for all outcomes was very low due to high risk of bias for each outcome, imprecision of results (the confidence intervals were wide), and publication bias (small sample size of the trials, and all trials were conducted in China). Additionally, 79 trials lacked the necessary methodological information to ensure their inclusion in our review.None of the included trials aim to assess all-cause mortality, serious adverse events, health-related quality of life, hepatitis B-related mortality, and hepatitis B-related morbidity. We are uncertain whether acupuncture, compared with no intervention, has an effect regarding adverse events considered not to be serious (RR 0.67, 95% CI 0.43 to 1.06; I² = 0%; 3 trials; 203 participants; very low-certainty evidence) or detectable hepatitis B e-antigen (HBeAg) (RR 0.64, 95% CI 0.11 to 3.68; I² = 98%; 2 trials; 158 participants; very low-certainty evidence). Acupuncture showed a reduction in detectable hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA (a non-validated surrogate outcome; RR 0.45, 95% CI 0.27 to 0.74; 1 trial, 58 participants; very low-certainty evidence). We are uncertain whether acupuncture has an effect regarding the remaining separately reported adverse events considered not to be serious.Three of the eight included trials received academic funding from government or hospital. None of the remaining five trials reported information on funding. AUTHORS' CONCLUSIONS: The clinical effects of acupuncture for chronic hepatitis B remain unknown. The included trials lacked data on all-cause mortality, health-related quality of life, serious adverse events, hepatitis-B related mortality, and hepatitis-B related morbidity. The vast number of excluded trials lacked clear descriptions of their design and conduct. Whether acupuncture influences adverse events considered not to be serious is uncertain. It remains unclear if acupuncture affects HBeAg, and if it is associated with reduction in detectable HBV DNA. Based on available data from only one or two small trials on adverse events considered not to be serious and on the surrogate outcomes HBeAg and HBV DNA, the certainty of evidence is very low. In view of the wide usage of acupuncture, any conclusion that one might try to draw in the future should be based on data on patient and clinically relevant outcomes, assessed in large, high-quality randomised sham-controlled trials with homogeneous groups of participants and transparent funding.

RESUMO

This study aims to investigate the possible mechanisms of electroacupuncture (EA) at PC6 to improve myocardial ischemia (MI) by regulating the cardiac transient outward potassium current channel (Ito). According to the random number table, the mice were divided into six groups of six mice each: control group, MI group, PC6, LU7 (Lieque-point), ST36 (Zusanli-point), and nonacupoint group. Mice in the control group were injected with saline (20 mg/kg, 24 hours interval), and the other ASIC3 -/- mice were injected subcutaneously twice with isoproterenol (ISO) (20 mg/kg, 24 hours interval). In the preexperiment, 5 mg/kg, 10 mg/kg, 20 mg/kg, and 30 mg/kg of ISO were used, and the results showed that 5 mg/kg and 10 mg/kg of ISO both could induce acute MI, but shorter duration of sustained MI. On the other hand, an injection of 30 mg/kg can make the mice experience arrhythmia or die immediately, and EA was operated at PC6, LU7, ST36 acupoints, and nonacupoint in the mice of PC6, LU7, ST36, and nonacupoint groups, respectively, after injecting twice. Then Western blotting techniques (Western Blot) were used to analyze the protein expressions of Kv1.4, Kv4.2, Kv4.3, and KchIP2. The results of this experiment showed that the protein expressions of Kv1.4, Kv4.2, Kv4.3, and KChIP2 in MI group were significantly lower than those in the control group (p < 0.01). Compared with MI group, the results of PC6, LU7, and ST36 groups obviously increased (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the expressions of PC6 group were higher than LU7 group and ST36 group (p < 0.05). And electrocardiogram's T-waves showed obvious pathological changes in the MI group compared to the control group (p < 0.01). After EA, the abnormal T-waves voltage of ECG in PC6, LU7, and ST36 groups was improved (p < 0.05). In addition, the rate change of PC6 group was larger than that of both LU7 and ST36 groups (p < 0.05). But the T-waves voltage of the nonacupoint group was not significantly different than that of the MI group (p > 0.05).

RESUMO

Myostatin (Mstn) is a negative regulator of muscle development in vertebrates. Although its function in muscle growth has been well studied in mammals and fish, it remains unclear whether or how mstn functions in the immune system. In this study, mstna-/- and mstnb-/- homozygous zebrafish were firstly generated using CRISPR/Cas9 (Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats/CRISPR associated protein 9). Deletion of mstnb but not mstna enhanced growth performance. Although survival rates under normal conditions were slightly decreased in both strains, mortality after dexamethasone-induced stress was increased by ∼30%. Furthermore, transcriptional levels of several critical immune-related genes were decreased, and the ability to withstand exposure to pathogenic E. tarda was decreased, compared with that of controls. In mstnb-/- but not mstna-/- zebrafish, expression of NF-κB subunits and several pro-inflammatory cytokines failed to respond to E. tarda exposure except nfkb1, c-rel and tnfα. Taken together, these results indicate that mstnb but not mstna plays a key role in zebrafish muscle growth. While each paralogue contributes to the response to bacterial insult, mstnb affects the immune system through activation of the NF-κB pathway, and mstna is likely to act upstream of NF-κB at some as yet unidentified target.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the potential precursors of the anthraquinone metabolites from Rheum tanguticum and preliminanly identify the synthesis pathway thereof. METHODS: Sterile seedlings sprouted from the seeds of Rheum tanguticum were chosen as materials for inducing callus. The effects of different precursors and feeding duration on the callus of Rheum tanguticum and the anthraquinone yield in adult rheum were studied. RESULTS: The greatest improvement of anthraquinone yield was achieved by acetic acid, increasing 43. 9% for the callus and 45. 8% in the adult rheum; the second greatest improvement was achieved by malonic acid, increasing 15. 8% for the callus and only 3. 6% in the adult rheum. The yield of anthraquinone was not influenced significantly by benzoic acid and p-benzoquinone, and in contrast, was inhibited in some degree by shikimic acid and α-ketoglutaric acid. A suitable feeding duration was 36 h, which worked well for the effects of precursors. CONCLUSION: The precursor for synthesis of anthraquinone metabolites from Rheum tan- guticum is acetic acid, which improves the yields of callus and anthraquinone in adult rheum, concluding that the anthraquinone metabolites are synthesized via polyketone pathway.

RESUMO

Sodium calcium exchanger (NCX), which is widely expressed in the plasma membrane, mitochondrial membrane and secretory vesicles in diverse kinds of cells, belongs to a type of cation translocators. NCX works in two modes, the forward mode and reverse mode, to regulate the intracellular Ca(2+) concentration bi-directionally. In the forward mode, NCX carries Ca(2+) out of the cell against its electrochemical gradients coupled to the influx of Na(+) down its electrochemical gradients; alternatively, Ca(2+) enters through the reverse mode of NCX, and Na(+) is carried out of the cell. Exactly through the two-way modes, NCX can regulate intracellular Ca(2+) concentration fleetly and accurately, and plays a critical role in a series of physiological processes including intracellular signal transduction, growth and development of cells, excitation and its coupled functions of excitable cells. NCX are acknowledged to be involved in myofiber contraction, neurotransmission, migration and differentiation of neurogliocyte, activation of immune cells, secretion of cytokines and hormones etc. Moreover, abnormal activation of the reverse mode of NCX plays a vital role in many pathological processes including cell apoptosis, ischemia-reperfusion injury, insulin secretion, tumor etc. Here we reviewed the research status about the NCX's participation in some physiological and pathophysiological processes, so as to provide comprehensive understanding about its functions.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Sjögren syndrome (SS) is a systematic autoimmune disease, on which traditional therapeutic agents show limited effect. More effective agents with longer-lasting and fewer side effects are needed in the clinic. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of Ganoderma lucindum spores (GLS) on sialoadenitis of nonobese diabetic (NOD) mice. METHODS: Thirty-two female NOD mice were assigned randomly into 4 groups: low-dose GLS-treated (L-GLS) group and high-dose GLS-treated (H-GLS) group, a dexamethasone group, and a normal saline (NS) control group. Stimulated total saliva flow rate (STFR), area of lymphocytic infiltration in submandibular glands and ratios of CD4(+) and CD8(+) T lymphocytes and B lymphocytes in peripheral blood as well as apoptosis of these subsets and serum IgG level were tested after 10 weeks of treatments. Differences among the groups were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Student-Newman-Keuls Test (SNK) was used between each two groups and a P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: STFR of the high-dose GLS group increased significantly after a 10-week treatment compared with those of the NS control group (P < 0.05). The incidence of sialoadenitis in GLS-treated NOD mice groups showed no significant difference compared with the control group (P > 0.05), but the area of lymphocytic foci in both the H-GLS and L-GLS groups decreased significantly to 50% of the NS control group (P < 0.05); the ratio of CD4(+)/CD8(+) T lymphocytes and apoptosis of B lymphocytes of NOD mice with sialoadenitis were less and apoptosis of CD4(+) and CD8(+) T lymphocytes were significantly increased compared with the control group (P < 0.05). After pretreatment with H-GLS before sialoadenitis onset, the ratio of CD4(+)/CD8(+) T lymphocyte and the serum IgG levels of NOD mice decreased significantly (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Pretreatment with H-GLS can relieve symptoms of sialoadenitis in NOD mice. GLS has some protective effects on sialoadenitis in NOD mice through increasing STFR and decreasing the area of lymphocytic foci by regulating the ratio of CD4(+)/CD8(+) T and apoptosis of B lymphocytes.

RESUMO

Methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) was first piloted in April 2004 in Yunnan, China, to reduce HIV transmission. This study aimed to examine public support for MMT and was based on cross-sectional data collected in March-April 2006 on a random sample of 411 police staff, medical/health professionals, community members, and drug users. Multivariate logistic regressions were used to analyze the data. The support was the strongest amongst the police and medical professionals but the lowest in drug users. A considerable proportion of the respondents viewed MMT as contradictory to China's drug control policies and this factor was negatively associated with support for MMT. Dissemination of more accurate knowledge and the resolution of these conflicts are urgently needed to increase the public support for MMT.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Sjögren syndrome (SS) is an autoimmune disorder characterized by chronic lymphocytic infiltration and decreased secretion in salivary glands. Apoptosis is one of the possible mechanisms involved in acinar epithelial destruction in SS. The role of apoptosis in the initiation and effect phase of sialoadenitis is still controversial. The aim of this study was to observe the roles of apoptosis-associated proteins and serum IgG levels in sialoadenitis progression in nonobese diabetic (NOD) mice. METHODS: 2-, 5-, 10-, 15-, 20-week female NOD and matched BALB/c control mice were selected. Saliva and tear flow rate were measured. Serum IgG level was tested by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Number of lymphocyte foci (NLF) in submandibular glands (SMGs) was counted under routine hematoxylin/eosin-stained sections. Expression of Fas, Bcl-2 and procaspase3 proteins as well as apoptotic cells in the SMGs were detected by immunohistochemical staining and by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling (TUNEL) assay respectively. RESULTS: Decreased stimulated total flow rate (STFR) and lymphocyte foci in SMGs were first observed in the 10-week NOD group. STFR was negatively correlated with NLF (P < 0.05). Serum IgG in NOD mice was significantly higher than that of the control group (P < 0.05) and showed a positive correlation with NLF (P < 0.05). Fas expression in SMGs acinar cells in NOD mice increased with age and was significantly higher compared with that in the control group. Bcl-2 expression and procaspase3 expression in SMG acinar cells in each NOD group were lower compared with those of the age-matched control mice. CONCLUSION: Abnormal expression of Fas and Bcl-2 in the SMGs and higher level of serum IgG may contribute to the initiation of sialoadenitis and cause the glandular destruction in NOD mice.

RESUMO

Five solid complexes of phenyl-acetylmethylene sulfoxide(L) with light rare earth (La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu) were synthesized and characterized. Elemental analysis and molar conductivities show that the complexes have a composition of RE(ClO4)3 x L5 x 2H2O; two ClO4 anions coordinated with rare earth ions and the other did not. IR spectra suggested that the ligand coordinated with RE3+ by oxygen atom in sulfinyl group, and the oxygen atom in carbonyl group did not bond. The phosphorescence and 1H NMR and TG-DTA of the ligand and complexes were determind. Fluorescence spectra of Eu(III) complex with the sulfoxide indicated that the complex has no symmetrical center. All the complexes have good solubility.
